The City of Lagos let him down. A city that has not found a solution to most of its urban challenges since I knew myself as a kid. If it could let down a Head of State murdered in traffic in 1976 it can and has messed up thousands of people and changed the lives of millions of others for the good, the bad and the very, very ugly. Take heart my man. |
Wow. Goverment getting down and dirty. In America this is usually the job of the CIA.... extra-judicial, black jobs. One sachel charge and the building is back to sand and gravel. Then they will probably freeze his credit cards, tap his phones and rendition him from his palatial country home protected by motion sensing cold cameras, fierce looking guards and alligator filled moats...in the dead of night by commando style helidrop.Nigeria is a B-rated motion picture of extremely poor directing. |
It is mixed messages like these that make this country virtually ungovernable. The lack of shared values cannot direct a country towards the path of development or focus leadership to tackle challenges wholistically. If the goverment has defeated, liberated, etc as they claim then it should shift resources to where it is needed more. If the people are satisfied what is the point. |
I think the Army should reconsider its decision and re-admit him for training. They know where to deploy him. One look at the scowl on that face and bam I got it....'Dirty Dozen'.... ![]() |
Is English your first language? no can't be. So just say 'fixed' a gate or 'installed' a gate if you want to sound kinky. Believe me, we won't be the least bothered if the gate was stolen because that is not the essence of the story.....Except you are a sales-person. Don't mind me. Just having my early evening tea as I cool off. |
Kai, I am dead tired from the day's work and my 45 minute evening work out that I can only give a very brief laugh....Ho,ho,ho..... read my DNA while I'm at the wheel...once again...ho, ho, ha...good evening....PS: the fastest DNA test takes 24 hours and certainly not done in traffic. |
Terrible. I hope the said Architect has packed his prison wear including his toothbrush and a few hard copies because he will be away for a long, long time. |
Focusmind:Indeed. That building may cost upwards of a million naira a day to run and if it belongs to goverment you just wonder where they will get that kind of money.... Of course they won't and over time it will fall into disrepair. |
Hmmm... fallen out of Grade A leagues... will struggle to get back into top tier football. Won't be surprised if its MLS from there. Very poorly managed career path so far. To succeed you need the ducks of life lined up for the taking. Skill or competence is not enough, there are 3 other keys that equally matter. He doesn't seem to have two of them. |
'....If the time comes leaders like me will plead...' Plead to who... That is where the so called democracy falls flat. When democracy works a performrr gets re-elected naturally and a failure ejected at the next pit stop. The key is who adjudges performance...a few party eldersband kingmakers or the people claimed to be served. |
oluwaseyi0:It is the structure you all support. We have said enough about its inability to produce good governance but since you folks think otherwise... If a governor's ability to run his state depended on the resources he is able to produce the security challenges will be over in a month because he will simply engage those doing the crime to do turn out a dime. But a typical governor does not need the people beyond elections, they are not resources to him but liabilities so he does nothing to take them out of the causatives of insecurity. |
litaninja:Exactly. Corners will be cut. But I will not speak of the consequences as I will not lend my mouth to tragedy, but when you consider what happened to ADC.... back then when there were five pilots to one aircraft you will understand where the priorities are. Now that the airline has collapsed long ago have the pilots not moved on. In my professional circles we call it the termite mentality. That is a system should not be degraded on the altar of sacrifice until it collapses and kills the beneficiaries. If they are not carefull the airline will collapse on the heads of the entire staff.... then everyone will sadly go home. |
Supermugu:We have this remarkable apathy for ignoring reality and kicking the can down the road. I spoke a few days ago on a post about a man bothered about his sex life with his inlaw seeming to get in the way due to his humbled status and tight quarters. We just have this attitude about avoiding hard decisions, doing the needful per time and making sacrifices but more often than not resorting to his culture of 'management' which means an unstoppable decline in values, standards and a crash in our humanity. It reflects in our lack of maintenance culture where a simple water closet in a public building in better climes will be shut down instantly for repair at the slightest fault while here it will be used and used until it falls apart completely costing more than a penny to put right. Same goes for our roads, ourhospitals, schools, everything, including our economy. Such that poverty deepens year on year. Now Air Peace is asked to recall staff it cannot pay. So it has to 'manage' the company. Certainly standards will fall to square the circle. Planes will not get enough attention in the hangars, premium spare parts will not be used, top notch service providers will be discarded and the airline will decline. Poor will become the new normal and like every other Nigerian historic institution, organization and industry, from refineries to power stations an inevitable collapse will occur when bend leads to break. We just cannot face up to reality in this country so we donot work hard, we are not innovative, we are not serious about anything important in life and most critically we seriously lack foresight. Airlines have been laying off staff worldwide since the middle of February after revenue PROJECTIONS for the test of 2020 up to 2022 began to emerge. British Airways had an almighty tiff with its workers in March while ours were stilk twiddling their thumbs bleeding cash paying for planes sitting idly. Perhaps of they had acted intelligently, early and swiftly this mountain could have been a small surmountable hill. |
Well, that is the bell that tolls for their requiem mass. How are they going to pay them...ah debts. That's what the experts at accumulating them, the Feds advice once they get involved in your matter. |
The Accuser, the accusation and the target are all weighty enough to attract official attention and he has gotten it now. |
emyrald91:Look all these states you mention have non natives living there. In truth all states in Nigeria have non natives. But look closely and you observe that they mostly live in enclaves because parts of such cities are off limits to non indigenes. They simply donot have the support services aliens need to school, work, worship and play. Most states in the north suffer from this so I will not call them purely cosmopolitan except the definition is altered. As long as a non native will stick out in any locality and attract attention that locality is not cosmopilitan. The city must be able to serve every need equitably and without prejudice. A native should not jump the queue for social services or be considered superior or more deserving in any way. I write as I remember things rhat I have seen over the years in different places because I have lived in the four cardinal zones for years, west, north, south and east in that order and I know what it means to be a Nigerian. |
Folks are just shooting astray. A city being cosmopolitan has far deeper connotations and meanings than just the population statistic. A few here. Lingua Franca. What is the language of work and play. What is the proportion of people that can freely connect. Voting. How many will remain to exercise theit franchise locally, i.e. they are active in the politics of their locality. Interest and investments. As exemplified by land, property, businesses of tangible nature particularly with a longer term outlook. Customs and traditions. How pervasive or imposing are local customs and traditions including religion on the general population.... And on and on. There are so many indices that determine the degree to which a city state can be termed cosmopolitan. I particularly like the last one about customs and traditions and I have related it here before. At a time I was in a riverine portharcourt community to sée a friend, a non native and along a chat about keeping pets he did admit that it was against the host culture for female dogs to be kept as pets. I simply told him he was not in a city but in a village. The community he lives has so much influence over his life from security to endless community relations meetings steeped in local traditional practices he has to oblige. A cosmopolitan city on the other hand offers all residents a feel of liberty to live anywhere, operate any business freely, work, worship and play without difficulties and interact with the locals without encumberances. Consider this and your list will be a lot shorter especially in comparison with the great cities of the world. |
Pity his era preceded big oil in European soccer. He would have made a bucket load of cash. |
His reasons are even worse than the allegations. Because ahe asked you to do more for the family and disrespects you?... |
helinues:After his tenure he should make way and go home. You don't hear John Major, Theresa May or Barack Obama troubling their countries to impose candidates. When they leave or are removed they go home. Where you folks got this nonsense practice from calling it democracy I just don't know but it is multiplying suffering and dividing up the ability of citizens to exercise their franchise in liberty. The principle of godfatherism presumes the electorate is totally ignorant and completely incompetent in choosing who leads them and they need someone to intercede on their behalf to the god of democracy to give them progress and development. We are not in a monarchy. When you leave office you are done with governance completely and done with politics in most cases. So is democracy practiced everywhere else apart from Africa. |
Probably. |
And now he has made the situation even worse. Should have just ridden the thing out with good governance, the only democratic antidote to criticism. Shows how poor their outlook is. They are experts at political manipulation but know very little about democratic sagacity and hopeless in good governance. He should enjoy the hornets nest he's shaken. Is he the only one approved by the judiciary. |
MicheyJ1:Still way behind the golden generation as I choose to call them. That is the class of 92 to 96. And still behind the diamond generation albeit a single individual Richard Owubokiri who for a couple of seasons was within earshot of the European Golden Boot winning the Silver boot in 1992 playing for Boavista. If there was ever a time a Nigerian could ever sniff a nomination for the popular Balon'dor, it was this man. Remarkably the national team never really worked out for him. I watched him a couple of times for the Eagles and it was clear his pass and move European style never worked well with his colleagues' long ball, kick and follow game. It was clear we needed to have more of our boys playing in Europe to have his game shine in the Eagles. Unfortunately by the time the likes of Keshi had settled in Europe the days of 'tricky ricky' as he was fondly called had come to an end. He had one last hoorah in the Brazilian league where it all started for him through his mentor and once Nigeria coach the late Otto Gloria and hung up his boots. I was privileged to watch him play. Unknown to many he remains the finest striker Nigeria has ever produced. His goal poaching success in Portugal paved the way for the late Rashidi Yekini to be trusted to thrive. His signature move. He was the master of switch play and was a viper with his back to goal receiving the ball from deep within midfield it was impossible trying to stop his trap, spin and hook shots into the net. Fantastic player. |
Success is contagious. Everyone wants to be on the next train to Naples for mega bucks. |
Righteousness89:Better stick to spreading the Word and refrain from criticising other religions. It is not wise. That is not a calling. God doesn't send people out for that purpose and there is no one in recorded New Testamemt history that did, not even Jesus Christ himself. I certainly donot. If you feel bothered, pray, that's enough. |
Egoat:That is what the Chinese Communist Party said while arresting the late scientists that rang the bell on Covid -19. Today they know better. With infectious diseases there is no crying wolf. They are all potential wolves. |
Hmmm... a land of a thousand infirmities. They better apologise to God and turn away from persecuting His church because that place is seriously beginning to resemble Egypt of biblical antiquity, prosperous but in the crosshairs of the Almighty. |
Ipromote:Im Lagos you mean. The rest of us have nothing to do with that. You Apapa, your problem. |
No comment. You all know what I will.say. |
Wow....the pessimism is absolute... indeed how did we get here. |
Parents. As your children come of age. Teach them about life and money. Teach them to be people of value. Teach them about the truths of wealth and poverty. |
Better. You're a good lad in a prime position. Donot place a glass ceiling over your head. Pick your battles wisely and donot be distracted. Trust me you donot want to wrestle a python in a muddy lake. They are experts at drowning success stories, just give them a wide berth and laugh off contradictions. |
