Another TEST! of the Nigerian State by Covid 19. Restructuring by 'pandemania'. After this I hope states will come to their sense to demand for the restucturing of this country. It is time Nigerians are governed locally. The Federal Government should be confined to interstate and international activity.

Okay sir but just shut it. The public has overwhelmingly questioned the rash actions of the governor for your support. It however does not justify the fact that your business flouted directives.

If you have a legal case it would have been much better to challenge the legality of shutting your business or the hospitality industry in the first place rather than go legal for the demolition after the fact.

With the return of the trains a lot of airports will become very useless
Trains are meant to crush the cost of doing business. A typical freight train will carry what hundreds of trucks will carry with tje added advantage of safety and security.

Trains are the backbone of infrastructural development. With trains even sand can be sent from the deserts of Sokoto to the coast at a viable rate. Agri comodities, solid minerals all become viable.

With trains you can effectively decongest city centres driving down the cost of accomodation.

What have I been saying for two.decades. Nigeria is too poor to run an aviation industry.

Transportation is all about numbers and we simply donot have enough people within the bracket (the middle class) of those who travel by air in other nations.

That is why the average lifespan of Nigerian airlines from inception to bankruptcy is 15 years. The turnover in the industry is staggering.

That is why I view in absilute diaguat more and more states building airports, the latest being Anambra and Abia and wasting taxpayers funds in procuring commercial aircraft like in the sad case of Akwa Ibom.

What goverments at the state level should have been doing with these massive amounts invested in transportation is building high speed rail links. Rail transport has remained the most viable, most economical and the most profitable means of transport for tje past 200 hundred years everywhere in the world.

Wirh high speed rail you may not get to Lagos from Abuja in a 45 minute flight but it is possible in 3 to 4 hours, at a fraction of the ticket cost and with greater versitality in the number of stops and the the cargo handling capacity.

Already we have a model success in the Abuja/Kaduna rail line that has carried more passengers in the five years of operations than perhaps all the airlines in Nigeria have carried in the last decade.

Another advantage of rail travel is that it is very easy to create a class structure that sells tickets lower than road transport for the poor and better than the best first class air travel experience for the wealthy. It is well known that the rail travel business introduced sleeping berths and full restaurants decades before they were considered in the air.

Finally, if Nigeria had a proper structure of devolution of powers the Federal Goverment need not bear all the burden of building Nigeria's rail network. States can build these lines under license from border to border and generate revenue from the rolling stock passing through, the Federal Goverment being the referee in this game, the supervising agency.

Without a middle class destroyed by decades of military rule with the nod of the feudal forces holding Nigeria captive, the airline industry can never be viable.

Guv Wike. This your Executive Order No. 6 is not sustainable. The threat of force is a society such as ours for a cause like this is counterproductive.

Punitive actions that can be sustained for a longer time, towards all citizens equally irrespective of class and background and that can hurdle the pitfalls of ethno schisms and sentiment should be administeted if not very shortly you will find yourself administering selective justice because there will be some stones too big to swallow.

Look at the endgame before starting. Where is it going to end. For how long can you escalate this. Justice has to be sustainable for it to be effective.

Your first line is deceptive. I listened to the message from the Winners Church this morning. He did not claim to have healed 36 people personally. The testimonies came from their branches round the globe and must have been sent online.

I don't know what you folks think the perfect healing Ministry of God is all about but I can assure you that it is not about personaities but happens when the Word of God meets the faith of the needy. That's all. You can get healed anywhere at anytime without the direct intervention of any man.

One thing I know of the Bishop is that his ministry is a teaching one based squarely on the knowledge of the Word of God and the acts of faith that follow. He is not a typical 'laying of hands in the assembly type' at least not in public always. He doesn't make a show of his personal involvement in the intervention of God in anyone's life. The testomonies will be from the Word of God learnt from him through preachings both immediate and past, literatures, audio tapes and so on.

One thing I do know is that people of faith in vast numbers will be personally protected by God from Covid 19 and many more will get healed and delivered from death. Testimonies will run for several years to come.

sad One hungry man died nah Coro sha ni!
One and the same thing.

Just donot understand why you guys cannot understand what a pandemic is.

Pandemics are feared because their effects go far beyond the disease itself. If you keep on thinking likehe goverment you will be inept and as helpless as they are.

I was saying this months ago. The horrendous deaths from the Spanish flu pandemic was not of the virus alone. Millions died because society collapsed. Died because there were no doctors to treat other ailments, died because there were no trash collectors and undertakers and vermins overtook towns feasting on abandoned bodies on the streets and bringing their own vectors.

When society collapses deaths escalate astronomically due to tangential reasons. In the UK right now they are closely looking at a statistic most other countries ignore. That is the rise in non Covid deaths. Nigeria is toying with this statistic.

Do you know that presently in Nigerian an alarming number of hospitals are closing down and doctors and nurses are being sent on compulsory leave, furloughed and sacked due to lack of Covid capacity and fear by patients to seek medical help and the general economic hardship keeping patients away.

What do you expect will happen. People will die in numbers. It is all about Covid, virus or not.

This is why Nigeria is not ready for State Police..

Just imagine State Police in the hands of this megalomaniac and thuggish governor.
I know feudalists will jump over this to justify central rule. I hope the national police is serving you well in breaking the laws and letting free movement around the country for a fee because they are not real stakeholders in security of various localities.

I rather choose to see a half full cup in the Wike saga and say that is why we should push ahead with state police but the governor's actions will lead to more study on the pitfalls, and better legislation to checkmate these kind of excesses.

Covid 19 has clearly shown a need for the decentralisation of the Nigerian state in many ways due to lack of capacity at the centre and discordant social values between federating units. The advantages of domiciling social responsibility to localities far outweighs the fear of abuse.

Anyway no one has said state police system will replace the existing federal police system. They can be complimentary as being practiced in several countries of the world. It is a matter of the constitution, law and the deliniation of power.

Politics › Re: Wike Demolishes Prodest Hotel, Eleme In Rivers State (Pictures) by Reference(m): 4:02pm On May 10, 2020
I think this is excessive. Though it is hard to sincerely defend the disobedience of official directives and laws of goverment I believe the law and justice are two sides of the coin that buys social stability and enhances the state of the nation.

When leaders execute laws they should consider the aspect of justice which simply says that, 'are you able to administer the same penalties in every and any instance such laws will be breached', if you cannot then it is better to reconsider the severity of the penalties.

If Wike cannot demolish every property of defaulters from now till Covid 19 is over then he should not have done this but rather considered a more viable and sustainable detterent.

If the next 'hotel' breaching lockdown is not demolished he will have egg on his face. If he demolishes the next 'hotel' then he is down a creek without a paddle. Wike is slowly boxing himself into an impossible corner with thoughtless acts that will damage him perhaps irreparably.

When leaders act it should always be from a depth of thought. Nigerians also should start electing leaders who act out of an abundance of thought, cerebral leaders that will succeed despite the environment they operate in.

Yes, they can be if they flout isolation rules willingly, infect others and it leads to death. It is a felony similar to an open status HIV patient deliberately infecting others. They presently go to jail for that in case you donot know.

Covid 19 is highly infectious. It is incredibly irresponsible for anyone to risk others before conformation of status.

There is just no way to discourage careless behavior and thereby fight the spread of this virus if people are not abreast with the consequences of their actions.

Since they have comitted a crime they have voluntarily forfeited their liberties and privacy. The goverment should publish their names and disclose their identities through the media rspecialky social media so that innocent citizens can take appropriate action encountering them in the near future.

I also think it should be made clear to people that just as contact tracing is used to prevent transmission, reverse tracing can and should be used to detect and apprehend felons who breach isolation protocols. And they should be made to pay dearly if those they contact and infect, succumb to the illness which is tantamount to manslaughter.

I will not scare people when I say it is
pre-meditated and should be murder but when you know the consequences of your actions and you commit a felony after the fact....

BluntTheApostle:
You are the one who is 100% wrong.

If your pastors had done the real job of building up people, instead of building mighty structures, then Christians would be able to survive on their own during crisis such as this pandemic.

Christianity has faced far more persecution in the past than now, and still survived. The secret is the investment that the Apostles made on the church (the people). But in today's Christianity, buildings are prioritized.

Corporate Christianity was emphasized by Paul because the Church was still very young, and new members needed all the encouragement they could get.

But today, the Church is old, and the Word can be easily assessed even through phones. There are many Bible apps (even with audio features) that you can download and read the Word by yourself.

This was not the case in the time of Paul. A new member needed all the guidance and encouragement they could get from the older members.

But if a Christian in today's time who has been going to Church every Sunday for at least 5 years is still depending on the corporate church for guidance, then I am sorry to say that there is no difference between such a Christian and a student who has been repeating the same class for 5 years.

Such a Christian needs deliverance from the spirit of Churchianity.
Absolutely. The church today is not doing enough to make 'fishers of men'.

The church is contended with the spectacular, the feeding of 3,000 with five loaves and two fishes. It wants the people to sit down in groups as the scriptures say almost in perpetuity. Jesus on the other hand quickly became fed up with those who came only for the food.

He rather wanted them to become the source. That is why mature commentators in the faith are concerned about the poor impact of the church in the affairs of nations. This is because there are far too many babies in the kingdom and not enough caretakers. That is, fewer graduating from the 'school of Christianity' to become active fishermen in the field of life.

Church leadership is responsible for this problem. For deliberately witholding I think, crucial knowledge that will help the birds mature and leave the nest as it were. Si they are bound to be concerned by events that will keep the flock physically away for any protracted period of time.
