Jimi24:Frigate. Nigeria has never bought a destroyer. We have never needed one. Our Navy is not blue water doctrinal. |
FGonline:Easy. Think. And the bigger the problem the longer and deeper the thought. You certainly cannot make qualitative decisions in a flash. |
In life always have a vision, it is your insurance against taking short term decisions. |
Great job by Gov Umahi.... but those tlles again.... half expected to see them. He should shoot his architect.. ![]() |
It speaks highly of a man if he is emotionally intelligent. I use this principle which I learnt from very young, in the military precisely. The moment of trouble, the split second of tragedy is the worst part of the experience you will have in the whole story. Once you can survive that moment everything gets better from thereon if you can think positive and craft your way out intelligently. Whether you have a leg amputated or your entire life savings wiped out, every second and minute that passes by will improve your outlook if you can think straight. If you cannot, you are likely to make a bad situation even worse and make an injury a paralysis or perhaps a paralysis, death. I don't know what took this man to the hotel but that is not being intelligent and his reaction speaks about a person who is likely going to make this bad situation even worse. |
So sad for the family of the bereaved but he should get a good lawyer and the Government should give him some backing. BRT lanes anywhere in the world are the last places you want to be crossing without care. |
Well, I cannot fault any governor for doing what he feels is right towards health security. No one who stands against him will remain standing if the pandemic ravages the land. They will all disappear into their closets. However Wike should realise Rivers State is not an island. It needs the rest of Nigeria more than Nigeria needs it. It needs the Federal Government more than the Federal Government needs it. So he should be circumspect in his actions and avoid issues that will leave lasting damage to the name of that State afterall he is in a temporary position. Overall, this pandemic has brought to the fore the very weak State of the Union in Nigeria. Both government and citizens do not seem to know the bounds of their rights and responsibilities thoughtless of understanding how these interplay in the greater schene of things to tackle such great challenges of Covid 19 or the great opportunities of development. |
kamez:For all its faults, the present set up has many conflict resolution terminals which they should explore and exhaust before physical self help. It doesn't make sense and is very short sighted. A community that cannot come to equity with service providers will have it hard going, be it power distribution or GSM infrastructure. How do you get folks to invest in your community if you cannot guarantee security. |
Silly citizens who don't want to pay XYZ Disco. Is it Siemens they will afford. To create a market there must be buyers and sellers who agree. Sometimes it may be necessary for government to step away and let the citizens organise themselves in ways they know and feel best. Let us see how the woman in question will provide herself with stable electricity. |
Hmmmm....I sincerely hope the car that crashed through the gates was not a 1969 'Boss' Ford Mustang....I sincerely hope the dog that was shot does not belong to.... Mr Wick.... and I hope the Ooni is not a member of the High Table.... if not.... so sorry for everyone involved. |
Good. But Oga governor do something better. Build a rail line from Uyo to the borders of Cross River, Abia and Rivers State through the nooks and cranies of Akwa Ibom and the people will remember you long, long, long after these aircraft have aged and mothballed. Airline business is a white elephant. Afforded by just 3 percent of the citizens of Nigeria. It will never break even thoughtless of sustained profitability. Transport thrives on volume. |
Thetruthalways:Na. The cost of maintenence wiil not be worth it. It is like taking a Volkswagen Beetle on a cross country journey. It can do it but you must be prepared to sleep in the bush. Ships are not only engines but systems too and these are manufacturer specific and will no longer have parts to replace. Remember, this ship was bought about the time we were purchasing Russian Mig 21 aircraft and T-72 and even before the Alpha jet series that have all been retired. It is a very old ship. Good job to keep it floating all these years but at 40 years old this year, it should be retired. What Nigeria should be doing with this ship is to retire it and send it to our Naval Colleges for study towards reverse enginering. That is what China and India did. That is how they started building their own massive military industrial complex. |
Vivian16:The Obasanjo administration I think but delivered during the Shagari regime. I have boarded it once and had lots of mags sent to me on subscription from Voss, the ship builder. Used to be badass in those days with Exocet missile capabilities from MBDA, France. But c'mon that is too long ago. The vessel ought to be retired by now. |
Na waoh. So this vessel remains our flagship after how many decades. This vessel that was purchased when I was the early stages of military training.... Kai. This country is just undescribable. |
Once again. Only restructuring can end this, not political party alphabet musical chairs, not a phantom superhuman anti corruption crusader.... just a change in a system that resources without responsibility to one that resources from tje position of need and disburses at the level of generation. How do you expect a man sitting in a fifteen storey office block in Abuja to be able or concerned about a car loan to a ghost in Ekiti.... the system is just wrong. |
Jakumo:Hmmm.....hope the 'clearing' does not mean deforestation. To fell trees to plant cassava is not wise from an ecological point of view. |
Sunnycliff:They are all hiding after promising to lead from the front. Never seen such cowardly leadership...so sorry to use such strong words, but if they cannot be active, front and centre like leaders of other countries, tell me what they will appear in public for that will be more important than this in the future. They will be like a man who hides in the attic when robbers come calling only to emerge barking orders when they have pillaged and departed. Pathetic. Honestly dissapointing. No excuse on earth. Imagine the British PM who went to hell and back can emerge to lead from the front once again.? |
When Mr. President forwards a name for confirmation to the Legislature it simply means he is asking the citizens of the country to assess with the intent to accept the nominee as a public servant. That is great privilege and power the citizens often ignore. Those in authority know this and very quickly become unaccountable.... very quickly you begin to hear coarse statements to the fact that the nominee turned appointee is 'not accountable to anyone but Mr. President'. Then you wonder why so much time and treasure is expended on these activities. |
Exc2000:No sir. The primary reason chloroquine was stopped was because of drug resistance. It was no longer potent due to typical abuse of medication. |
Exc2000:Abeg go and sit down. What is the fuss about Chloroquine. Before it lost its potency against the malaria parasite it had been the standard drug of choice in Africa. The average adult Nigerian had taken the drug dozens of times growing up. I've taken the drug countless times growing up and in the military it was given as standard in medikit for operations. The noise about this drug is just silly. If the man believes it can work for him and his doctor certifies it, what is the problem with folks. |
Be a person of focus, of vision, purpose and an overwhelming desire for excellence... then see where his atmosphere fits into all that... I don't think you need more than that clue. |
Millenniumlady:Honestly I don't know how he does it. I hope he is not entangled in some secret debt web.... But I kniw how thus can be achieved in most States and this I havd observed in Ebonyi. Ebonyi appears to have a relatively small civil service so the cost of administrating government may be small and manageable. Secondly, my big favourite. His development model appears grassrooted. No where do you see my pet provocateur, the almighty Julius Berger. Most of his infrastructure works are either handled by non descrcript Chinese companies or by direct labour. I have a few staff from the state that attest to the fact that he is very much hands on and community oriented. Whenever I pass through Abakaliki to check my traps you see yound men handling these large jobs most states will give multinationals. He is reportedly an Engineer so I am not surprised. Finally have you noticed that almost all the buildings comissiined have this particular tile finish that is becoming regimented. Could it be the guv or someone close to him owns a ceramics and porcelain making factory.... He is doing a fantastic job making the days of Sam Egwu a distant..... nightmare. |
clumsydyna:Once again all this is because the virus remains an enigma. No one is talking about ventilators again because it was recently discovered that patient mortality was considerably higher with intubation as against ordinary oxygenation. Patients in the States began to reject the sedation that comes with intubation. Even the drug therapy has continued to evolve from drug to drug, treatment to treatment methodology. Folks this is a NOVEL (CORONA) VIRUS. It is highly unintelligent to assume that the changing news around its administration means it is all false. That is being too simplistic and will only endanger the bearer of such thoughts if he or she lets his or her guard down. |
bellachibaby:There is not one thing she said to dispute the fact that was positive. Show you result, what result, the reagent strips or you want to be issued a certificate of attendance or what. It is an isolation centre not a GP appointment. You interacted with people and none of them is infected. How do you know this. We all know the influenza virus acts on people differently and the immune system of people vary. So you may contact ten people and five do not get infected, three out of the five remain asymptotic and go onto recover without medication while just one will manifest symptoms. If everyone who came in contact with a single mosquito develops malaria and everyone who comes in contact with somone who coughs and sneezes catches the common cold, the world will be empty by now. What concerns the authorities about Covid is that the virus is not understood, period. No one is after anyone for any reason. By the time a precise drug therapy or vaccine is found Covid 19 will be forgotten as quickly as it came only to be remembered as part of the shots required by international travellers just like yellow fever. But as long as it continues to spread like wild fire and dumps bodies in the morgue in record numbers, please donot deceive the gullible public. Coronavirus is a clear and present danger. |
clockwisereport:Mr Friend. If Nigeria was restructured that plant may not be situated in Ekiti. But don't ask me which state it will be situated. It will be situated in THE State that will need it badly enough to give that industrialist the best deal, perhaps free land or cheap industrial property in estates serviced with stable independent power, crazy tax waivers and other incentives. And then when the industrialists settle in ensure the State is secure, friendly and progressive. The government will not go about demolishing property at a whim but insist on due process. The government won't tolerate extortion from urchins or intolerance from religious zealots because like Dubai they need the resources lost to a failed crude oil utopia. Just like a person who has no other source of income takes his job seriously and directs his expenses productively Nigeria is not and will not develop as long as there is free money aka allocation. As long as there is free money we will never elect cerebral, visionary, goal getters. We we never elect real leaders. Forget corruption, forget tribal divisions, forget nepotism and all the social evils besetting Nigeria. Once the party is over through restructuring everyone will find a way to survive. They will find who CAN DO and tell their brothers and tribesmen to take a hike. They will watch over who they give a penny like a hawk. They will see their leaders driving limousines and frown instead of hail. No one will tell the police not to arrest and prosecute the thief in chief. We are dancing around probity and development because the music of free money is still playing. |
wink2015:That is why it is important to restructure the country so that states can be independent TO COMPETE FOR INVESTMENT AND DEVELOPMENT. As long as Okowa depends on allocation and you depend on Okowa's grace, nothing will happen. In a restructured Nigeria the governors will compete intensely to have investment to their domains. They will struggle amongst themselves to have you and I entrepreneurs, investors ahd businessmen into their states, courting us as rockstars because they will need us to survive, to pay their workers and pave their roads. That is how nations develop. Productivity will become attractive instead of the present rent seeking economy. Contractors will die off naturally in favour of industrialists. Those who can create lots of jobs and pay heavy taxes will be given the keys to the city gates. It is the nature of man to be indolent when life exists without vision and without labour. That is why those who inherit great riches and those who win massive lotteries can never be successful. Nigeria's hitherto and mistaken oil riches has brought us nothing but poverty, indolence, division and backwardness. We need to change the structure that it birthed and supported for 60 years. |
Poor leadership akin to second term blues. It doesn't matter to them anymore. |
agentzico:I was in Cross River towards the end of January. By early February tthat woman, Commissioner Betty wa already all over the airwaves mobilising the state towards Covid. That was before the Italian arrived. I understand the state was locked down for the least number of days compared others. Three things they did right: They started early, much earlier than all the States I know including the FCT. They gave the citizens a more realistic tasking to prevent the spread. The mandatory wearing of face masks for all public appearances as opposed to just unending lockdown. They mobilised the grassroots in checking and monitoring movement within and across borders. They did not depend on law enforcement alone. One thing in their favour. Calabar is more or less a peninsula surrounded by mountains in the east and wetlands in the west. There is just one road in, one road out. You either come by sea or the main road in the capital which is easily manned. Outside that the terrain is simply impossibke. Even further out there are only two motorable routes, the northern axis from Benue/Ebonyi and the western axis from Akwa Ibom. The landscape is protected by nature. Once again. On this pandemic the Cross River state government has done very well, no small thanks to her mercurial Comm of Health. Solid leadership. |
Ma'am, it is not what you wear but what you publish. The good book you claim to associate with makes it clear, that it is not what enters a man that defiles him but what comes out from him. So it is not the clothes or lack thereof but the intention behind the publicity that will bring hreat disrespect to your vocation and limit your leverage amingst those you claim to serve. Remember, for all those who out of weakness or immaturity fall short of the righteousness of God, you will be held accountable. That is why the Scriptures admonishes those in leadership and authority in the church to live a simple, humble neutral, almost colourless life so they are beyond reproach. You cannot adopt the standards of the world and find peace with God. Ypu cannot be an arsonist and fireman in the kingdom of God. |
The best part of this comic tragedy will be the hilarity when schools eventually open and the government complains it does not have enough funds to continue... now that will be a laugh..... ![]() |
The reason why Nigeria is like this. The poverty, ignorance, insecurity..... the general unattractiveness that leads to backwardness.... yet folks continue to flog the horse of racism. That is why I just thank God for my life. Born in the west, spent my youth in the north and my adulthood a lot in the east and south. Passed thrugh national institutions at a very early age so made multicultural, multireligious friends and relationships which have balanced my thought process and greatly enriched my experience. How will I ever be poor, or stranded or marginalised.... it cannot happenn Today no one can identify where I possibly come from because I am a bonafide citizen of Nigeria without racial baggage, privileged to critique all and learn from all in tandem. I have no tribe or state of origin. I work, play and advance anywhere and everywhere in Nigeria. There is hardly any state I will drive into that I don't know someone's house to spend the night in. There is no state in Nigeria I will not want to buy land and build a business in. It is a pity that we have lost so much in creativity, inspiration, objectivity and the grace that surrounds a people of unity and love. Rememeber the biblical story of the Tower of Babel. Even God knows the heights this country will have reached if we were unconscious to our differences. |
Of course the diligent will always profit from the indolent, noisy, lazy so called giant whose citizens only concern is palliatives while the citizens of their neighbourhood countries sell them liquid solutions. Nigeria is not a mess by mistake. Attitude forms habit, habit forms experience. We are the poverty capital because we are lazy, selfish and full of crappy sentiment. A people that cannot solve anything in life. |
