When is Nigeria going to shut down for this pandemic to pass on. It appears everyone else is making efforts to buy time by restricting movement. What is the matter with this country. Why are we always reactionary towards crime, towards insurgency, towarsd economic challenges and now towards this pandemic. Are we waiting to be hit hard before acting. Just do not understand the kind of leadership we have here. |
0m0nnakoda:Exactly. Because on this conveyor belt of tragedies few learn anything. By Monday morning its back to business. We don't know about what kind of organisation, training and orientation is given to these people but something just had to change. There lies the profit. As for goverment just cut down the cost of governance to save lives. |
Igetmyown247:If you can tolerate your goverment's lopsided appointments surely you can tolerate food you know very little about. Discrimination and racism is a Nigerian passport holder. Clean your house and roaches will leave. |
Check to see why they discriminate in the first place, whether there are religious or cultural grounds. It may belong to a certain sect or order in membership or ownership. Things that may or may not be openly revealed. When this news first broke a few years ago I did ask if Nigerians raising hell were free in their own country and whether we did and still do discriminate against one another in all walks of life. We should be the last to complain about such things. We have an abundance of divergent discriminatory cultural practices and religions at the polar ends of extremism that tests our Constitition and existence repeatedly. Perhaps we should ask for a quota system from the Chinese restaurant owners oh yea hypocrites. Abeg make una go siddon. We have plank sized problems amongst ourselves. Silly people just seeking where to vent their societal frustrations. Ask those goverment people how they got their jobs in the first place if not at the expense of someone discriminated against. |
This man is cerebral plus outspoken. That is genius. |
Amongst all the suggestions of names of babies born during the pandemic. One stands out above all. For a boy: Quarantine and for a girl, Quarantina....not rocket science is it. |
malali:Very tired this morning but I'll just say this. It is much easier for a businessman to weather economic storms than a person in employment not because of earnings, assets and perhaps savings but because of lifestyle. Businessmen are largely more flexible in operations, more creative in response and more resilient in activity. That is why most nations adopt the capitalist model of economy. That is they run their countries essentially as businesses. We claim to be a capitalist country but there is nothing in our Constitition, and in our practices that suggest we are not Socialists. Nigeria is run like one big employment agency employing 200 million citizens all benefitting from the sale of oil. There is very little independent wealth creation so when oil performs badly even the Dangote group feels the impact. Socialism also ensured we are resistant to adjustments as was proven in the heat of the Niger-Delta crises when the goverment had the perfect opportunity to walk away from the oil bondage when the political will was there. If we had taken business-like strategic decisions by now 20 years later we will have founded an alternate economy. I absolutely disagree with all these notions of 'if we had saved and not stolen or wasted'. Savings is not business thinking. It is employment thinking. Business men donot operaye savinga accounts. Businessmen invest to beat inflation and create prosperity. There is nothing left to steal or mismanage. Nigeria needs to embrace capitalism in its full glory to survive. |
If I'm not mistaken that was what I was seeing yesterday coming into Abuja... |
skyfather09:Oga, every era has its tragedies. If you were born in the 12th century you will have witnessed the 'black death' which wiped out over a hundred million people equivalent to a billion today. If you were born about a hndred years ago chances are that you will have heard and felt the Spanish flu which killed an estimated 20 million people equivalent to 75 to a 100 million today. Now note the progression. Fewer people are dying from plagues and pandemics over time and age because of advancements in medicine, science and technology. Information moves faster so populations can prepare quicker. Also due to gene technology antivirals and vaccines can be engineeres from scratch in a matter of months as against several years before. From a technology stand point the best time to be alive is in the future. The only threat to that is man's inherent inhumanity to his fellow man. |
LordAzubuike:No thanks to stupid men that smile when lured by predatory women. Men and women please stay apart and find better things to do with their time. Men should spend their productive years developing themselves. |
tunapawizzy:China has resumed limited production but who will they sell to, when all shops round the world are on shut down mode .... Since it is clear the projection that eventually 70 percent of the world will get infected then I think people should just carry on. The race should be for survival. Medicare shoukd be given only to those at highest risk of death. The others should just take time off work. You'd normally recover from influenza within 2 weeks max and one week if you have good immunity and good genes. I am not sure the halting of all activity round the world is good for anyone and everyone except the planet. |
philip0906:They are on tether hooks, full defensive mode. Siege mentality in Aso Rock. They know the barbarians are banging on the city gates... Adesina knows the battle is lost. |
Robot this, robot that. No robot at stupid animal markets where animals that are not to be touched are sold. No robot to tell you stop eating everything on earth. That is the problem. Abeg carry this nonsense comot. |
JerryLegend:So anyone who as much as raises a voice of complaint in a democracy is a political jackass. What is happening to we Nigerians. Are we losing our sanity? So if the warning light on your dash comes on you take heed and find an auto mechanic quickly or you begin to fight the car. What is wrong with us. |
Bring in foreigners to establish and run these things. I just don't understand what kind of sick pride is preventing our accepting our incompetence and seeking help. Bring in foreigners to run the power sector, water, energy and other sectors we have consistently failed in from cabinet status right down to management. Change the vloody Constitution if need be. |
spirul77:Its influenza for heavens sake not cancer. What's all the drama about. Almost everone on earth will eventually get it. Viral infections are part of life for generations. What the world is worried about is not catching the virus but catching it all the same time, then it will overwhelm healthcare services. Mortality remains at between 3 to 5 percent, one of the lowest for infectious diseases. A large number of people have recovered and are just fine. Just don't compromise your defenders. |
....They should tell their fellow animals to stop infecting us with disease. If they kill us all na lion go become king and lion no dey do tourism and lion no dey give monkey banana. |
Lovely. Pity they can't draw the tourism community this year as they should. Fantastic heritage. |
Antoeni:Cross-River presently has a Professor as Governor and anothet Professor as Deputy.... and Calabar has not exactly become Silivon Valley, California. The truth is under this structure we operate you can as well have King Solomon as Governor, Albert Einstein as Deputy, Copernicus as Speaker and Da Vinci as Commisioner of Works. Tbe only portfolio that will work in any meaningful way will belong to Nostradamus, Commisioner of You're All Wasting Your Time. There is no nation I know that argues about the qualification of eld ted officiaks in parliament because it should nor matter. If institutions work properly they will naturally set those standards. If we all make elected offices positions and crucibles of solutions to societal challenges unqualified people wil naturally flee. But as long as sentiment remains the basis for handing over our mandate then even Professors will fail miserably. It is the institutions that matter not the individuals. |
BreconHills:The problem with folks like you is that you choose to skirt the real issues. What do numbers mean in Nigeria.? The false FEC allocation economy is a structural issue that the citizens of this country have to address if not the results of such loans are seriously in doubt and will likely go the same way as the previous ones. Just look at some of the items on that list. Are they core economic stimulus packages.? And when you say 'running since 1999' you simply cannot extricate yourself from the political angle because you refer ro a period where democracy was reestablished in Nigeria. The administrative structure we operate has not changed since the civil war. It did not start in 1999. Even the 1999 Constitution which anchors everything did not start in 1999. Yes there are options and it starts by telling ourselves the truth and setting our house in order so that we break the cycle of throwing good money after bad principles. No one is against the idea of borrowing bur show m what rhis government and the previous one has done with all the billions borrowed and let the public decide whether it is worth it. Until then I am at liberty to speculate that all this loan things are just to satisfy special interest groups, rent seekers that constantly loiter round the corridors of power and cannot find food to eat or earn a decent wage for an honest days work outside government. Citizens of other countries will extract significant concessions from government through their Representatives before permitting such dangerous ventures. Here we cannot even ask them to cut down their excesses and bloated personal costs that condemns us to penury every passing budget. Abegi.. It is political. Get the structure right and everything else will fall into place. Politics is the driver of the bus of state. |
Officialgarri:You take a 22 billion naira loan based on 'what if'... kai.... never seen this kind of ineptitude by a citizenry. Is it a sin to seek details and performance guarantees and if not find alternatives.. Thank goodness corona had stepped in. Our almighty collateral, crude oil is fast adopting junk status. It is now we will know the difference between leadership and governance. |
Nice. Anything to make us sit up is welcome. |
Hmm... if this the start of our own cultural revolution I'm truly in for it. We have had enough damage from our so called cultural diversity which is just a smokescreen for rampant racism and hidden bigotry which thezs so called traditional leaders act as totem poles. In the light of the 'locomotive theory' I had hopes that a highly educated, exposed and dynamic personality such as Sanusi heading auch an institution like the Kano Emirate will be a 'pushing force' for good to drive the much needes reforms amongst the cotizens of the north towards those factots that makw for development namwly education, population control and the erosion of harmful cultural but this experiment has not turned out right. Now that he is out having tasted the stool he could be a better force for good in 'pulling' the people along with the great sympathy he has garnered. The El-Rufai interventions shows that Sanusi's messages against the cultural establishment has hit home and some are prepared to risk liberalism to get ahead. If this ia what is happening in wider Nigeria, it has my full support. Once again and I will repeat this continually: There is a reason the world has largely ridden itself of monarchical rule and diminished its appeal in other climes. It is just not compatible with the development globalisation brings and not just acceptable to the modern day citizen of the world. A working, dominant tribal identity is very corrosive to development. Whenever I visit Portharcourt and my friend invites me to invest in property in his locality I always remind him that I will do when 'his village' becomes 'a city'. His property may just be 5 minutes away from the industrial centre of Portharcourt and ten minutes away from Portharcourt city centre but everything is dominated by 'community rules and regulations' from curfew times to the keeping of female dogs. How do you move forward that way. We need a cultural revolution in Nigeria. |
mu2sa2:So, according to your cerebral analysis there are cases of mass murder the goverment and security apparatus led by the able President should not be bothered about since his tribe is not accused.... ....ans you are surprised when people continually pleads with him to resign... because under hia watch the country is being split into fiefdoms increaaingly under the control of non state actors. |
....when should we start hearing juicy stories of married men, mistresses and phoney quarantines... |

visijo: ...Prosperity by association. Even in Switzerland there are cleaners earning minimum wage. |
That is not the responsibility of the Chief of Staff. He has neither the expertise or experience in handling such technical issues. That is why we often find ourselves in contractual quagmires in this country. He's obviously there with an agenda which the other appendages will not be able to resist. |
Disgusting. This is prison. I'll fall sick there within a week. |
Mysticwebb:Can't you read. He is saying he doesn't waste him time swimming against the tide. To move the country forward he will have to say some home truths and when you are in a regime that CANNOT TAKE PUBLIC CRITICISM then why bother. He is alluding to the atmosphere prevading the country that causes EVERYONE to keep silent while the ship sinks. |
LuciusX:Just say Corolla and we understand. Rugged, easy to maintain and best gas mileage... everyone has driven one at some point. |
GreetMe:That is how they brought small pox and measles to Africa four centuries ago and it has remained ever since. The Spanish and Portugese particularly ravaged most of the Americas with 'strange.illnesses' against which the inhabitants had no immunity. Thank goodness COVID-19 is finding the purebred negroid a harder nut to crack. But of course viruses are resilient. You can be sure they are currently in a meeting to figure us out. |
