9jayes:His passport was confiscated by Brazilian authorities for an offence in Brazil and was returned to him just before this trip. It is possible that the passport was flagged to ensure he cannot use it to obtain a visa. Brazil maybe third world but unlike Nigeria it maybe impossible to have mote than one official passport. |
hisexcellency34:It is the prisoner that usually requests for that. Stop bickering. |
ursullalinda:This is what the discourse should be about not irrelevancies. He is the governor by law and nothing can be done about that. So they either get rhe best out of him or push for impeachment where he comits an impeachable offence. We should stop all these personality based movements and focus on the purpose of governance which is to better the lot of rhe citizery no matter who is in leadership. Pressure to govern well is profitable. Destabilization to cause to fail is not. |
Why attack rhe governor. They should take their angst to the Supreme Court, the National Assembly and the INEC. When will my fellow Nigerians realise that their future lies not with individuals but with institutions. How is it that people simply do not realise how to get things done in a democracy. |
dangotesmummy:Nigerian. You have heard the reason, deterrent. What is so hard to accept in that. You and I donot know where the shoe pinches. We donot know what or how much he has lost before so let him run his business the way he wants to. If he decides to close down the rest of the workers will praise him in hindsight. |
Talent with determination will take you to the top. Character will decide how long you stay there. His story is not the most disappointing of them all. Consider that Tiger Woods may never become the greatest golfer of all time.... simply because he could not keep his putter in the bag. |
Congrats to her. Diligence has taken her places and secured her legacy. Watch how South Africa cruises past Nigeria yet again now that Saudi Arabia and Russia are in a full blown oil production war that could see prices fall to as low as 25 to 30 dollars per a barrel so says some analysts. |
How long a child, that lady, stays in the company of the parents depends on three things: What course she is studying and what certification she aspires to. How competent the school and lecturers are. How fast she assimilates the informarion and gains the knowledge. The objective of every parent should be to deliver to society capable and competent children, steeped in values that will not only be able to establish legacy but enhance society. That is what most animals do. They donot let go of their young until the young are capable of not only taking care of themselves but enhancing the agenda of the specie. A lion cub will remain in the family not only until it can survive but thrive. Most humans let go once they see a child able to survive but they let the child find its own way to thrive. That is the simple reason why most people are not successdul in life. They learn from society, not from their roots and squander a lifetime of informarion and experiences their forebearers have. So the simple answer is. Your home is your school domitory, your parents are your life lecturers and motivators. How long you spend there depends on the course of study. If you wanr ro be a vulcaniser or groomer perhaps a year is enough. If you want to be cardio surgeon perhaps ten years... If you say your lecturers are no good and society is a better teacher then it is certain your parents once said that and perhaps your grand parents. It is time to break the cycle of ignorance. |
kristo123:A lot. As for me now I know that it has no genetic exemptions I am focused on survival since it is almost certain most of the world will get it. A leaked circular round US hospitals is telling them to preoare for a masaive 97 million admissions and treatments and a casualty figure of some 480,000 people. Nigeria's population is about half (slightly more) that of the US. We don't have one tenth of the number of medical staff and hospital beds to handle this virus. God is just being merciful to us while a vaccine is produced. |
Olominira:Well there is news that the Chinese situation is not true and the facts are being hidden to avoid a countty wide panic. That the data is being manipulated. I will be wise to wait before commending or condeming. The virus isn't done yet. Nigeria and Africa too isn't out of danger. |
safarigirl:Apart from those travelling through airports, those who had contact with the Italian and a few Chinese who else has or is being tested. Do you know of any where you are. Like someone said Nigerians hardly treat the flu by anyone other than themselves. And don't compare the ebola and the corona virus. The benign symptoms of corona is what is making it more virulent. The spike in cases in rhe US lately is because they are only beginning to test 'inland' and nor just useless themometer checks at airports. Call up any doctor you know here and ask him or her if he has performed any test for COVID 19 on any patient he has seen with a fever and cold.... let us know the outcome. |
galadima77:Just the cost of government... or some may say democracy. Shows that we as citizens remain incapable of agreeing to cut our costs and move forward. We are a weak people. Weak people are not disciplined. Accept everything, reject nothing. |
J111333:Read, read, read. It doesn't hurt. Black man. Read!!!!! |
TheTourist:Because the black man is indifferent to knowledge, will not record history, will not seek facts, will not document anything and will not read what is documented. If this was any other country the man needn't explain anything so long after. Indepth research will have been done on the Abacha years... all government's for that matter and the facts will have been archived for future studies but we are not that diligent so we only have rumours, double talk and misinformation ruling. For somerhing as tragic as the civil war where millions of lives were lost and tectonuc shifts in our existence occurred there is very little information in the public domain by way of books, journals and documentaries. To get some facts you will have to travel to London, Russia and the United States to get them. We live in a crab bucket or a black hole where nothing goes in or out.... a dead society. Of course the man has every right fo say what he likes. Where are your facts to dispute him. |
J111333:Here we go again. Citizens and kings. We never seem to be able to see beyond individuals to the reak deal, institutions. Perhaps that is why we are so religious in Nigeria. We need an image to depend on. The correct 'truth' is that the quality of any man who aspires to leadership is measured by the effect he has on the institutions he commands and by extension the effectiveness of that institution in promoting the good of those the institution was set up to serve. So basically there can be no military Head of State anywhere that can pass the test of quality leadership simply by their nature which is the truncating of civil liberties, which means the stopping of citizens from exercising their franchise in choosing leadership and learning from the success and failures in the process. Remember the one and only function of government anywhere in the world is simply to: Organise Society'. It is the strength of society, the intellect of society, the wealth of society that combines to prosper a people and develop a nation, not government. That is why a weak people, an ignorant people, a divided people can never experience progress no matter who rules or what kind of government is practiced. Military rule simply does not let the average citizen go to the school of society building that leads to national development. That is why the first thing they do is suspend the Legislature (the crucible for debates that leads to understanding, agreements and solidarity) and the Judiciary (where civil disputes are decided) choosing to rule instead by decree. A simple, poignant example. If a military ruler was in power operating by decree the issue of farmers/herdsmen conflicts will have been settled, swiftly one way or the other most likely in favour of one side and to the displeasure of the other. Such resultant 'peace' cannot be said to be sustainable nor progressive and often ends badly but what democracy brings is an opportunity to negotiate a solution where resolutions are more likely done on a basis of give and take. Nobody wins all, nobody loses all. This is the model all successful, prosperous nations adopt. The quality of leadership is then measured by any leaders' ability to expand, sustain and deepen such demcratic mechanisms that guarantee civil liberties and prosperity. |
Oil at 8 to 9 dollars and still ran Nigeria despite sanctions (zero foreign investment) and was able to run the largest infrastructural expansion since the Gowon years and is still returning money to Nigeria twenty years later.... wow. Democracy is damn expensive... but like marriage to a man.... absolutely necessary to sustain life. But we need to cut down the cost of running this country. It is just unsustainable. We desperately need to restructure. If we were an enterprise, changing CEO's will not bring about a reversal of downward fortunes if they were all singing from the same hymn sheet. It is the courageous CEO that will change the way the company is set up and how they do business that will succeed. Nigeria needs a new direction. |
Proffdada:Not true at all. It is the military that is responsible for its own decline and it is a long story.... 50 years long. The summary is that when an institution or professional body leaves its core mandate and seeks expertise in another field it loses its core values and erodes its competence therein. The moment the military ventured into national governance and politics the decline started. If all the time and treasure dxpended in governing Nigeria had been spent in training and equiping the military will have been leagues ahead of where it is today. That is a fact. Tell me of any nation on earth that has a storied military dictatorship in the past and has a strong military today. From latin America, Africa to East Asia, military interjection in governance has always weakened countries and weakened the military of those countries as well. |
Jokers. Cross-River that barely has a motorable access road from the rest of Nigeria and they are talking about airport and night flights. Cross Riverians are sitting idly by claiming to be part of Nigeria. Let the rainy season come and change your nationality. Very soon it will be easier to drive to Cameroun and then fly to Abuja or Lagos. |
Women and sexuality. Even the most successful ones cannot accept inadequacy in any of its parts. Even the most educated ones cannot accept its physiological, architectural and anatomical limitations. Even the most anointed ones refuse to accept they are created perfect and in the image of God. What is it in their DNA that makes them slaves to their bodies.... almost without exception. |
mansakhalifa:Yes, I think he has stopped the rot. A team in a similar position is Tottenham and we can see how unstable they are presently. United too are beginning to snap out of it. It is not easy for clubs to get out of a bad positions particularly if their difficulties are entrenched and systemic. |
Native doctor? when FMC Umuahia has good snake bite treatment capabilities. All farming communities round the country should be enlightened on the right response to such incidents. His death was avoidable. |
That is the right thing. If you are not prospering, right size. I bet if they were in power instead of sacking they will take loans like our dear Federal Government and place our oil reserves as collateral. They will tell you that they have no choice and there are no alternatives than to borrow. |
Abfinest007:Favour is for benefit not responsibility. If political office is meant as a call to serve a depraved, poor, uneducated and traumatised people I can hardly call that favour. I call that sacrifice meaning even our religious leaders are in the dark about what political office truly is about. It appears they themselves see it as a beach party. When we get to a point where those who aspire do so because they want to make a difference. Where they go in full and come out half empty. Where the only attraction is the opportunity to build a legacy and they fight on the basis of convictions, ideologies for the betterment of those they lead out of love then I will know we have started the journey to true democracy. By then leadership will be like the prayer of Jesus on the night of Gethsemane, 'oh Lord if it your will let this cup pass over me, but not by my will but let the will of my long suffering people be done'. |
Wonder what she has to say about this albatross the Legislature has helped the government buy. |
And with the BVN the beneficiaries/culprits should be detectable if they are interested in that. |
Angelfrost:If we do not try to persuade fellow citizens that doing the right thing is in our collective interest what can we do. They have the votes. I have only one. |
Gnaeusmagnus:THAT IS EXACTLY WHY DEBATE IS NECCESARY. BE TRANSPARENT. LET THE PEOPLE COMPARE THE COST TO THEM, THEM, THEM OF THE TWO ALTERNATIVES (sorry for the caps, its so annoying). Let them decide for themselves which pain they prefer, the sharp pain of subsidy removal or the slow death of unsustainable debt. Let them decide how they want to die. This is the function of a working democracy. It is not the Buhari government that will repay. It is us. Let us decide. Simple. Forcing the people to accept what they have not is not democracy. It is slavery. Pure feudal rule, last seen in military rule and colonial rule before thst. |
And I am saying for a fact that if that thing was debated many items contained in that debt profile will be rejected outright by Nigerians. For one, only the Minister of Information and his family will support giving NTA 500 million dollars. On my part I will argue for the tolling of the nation's highways to raise the funds for road infrastructure rather than taking loans for them simply because roads are not cost efficient investments. The average lifespan of Nigerian highways is fifteen years after which most are either completely reconstructed or cost astronomical amounts to maintain. They will certainly go bad long before these loans wil be repaid nulifying the overall economic objectives. If the bulk of the loans were geared to rail transport which is a lot more resilient mode of transport then a marginal return could be obtained long term. A better deal. So the question is how efficient is the borrowing to the economy. We wil never know because it was simply not debated. They have taken it and all the people will get is the bill. |
Afamed:As long as folks like you fail to understand how democracy works your suffering will continue unended. It is a criminal offence for a black man to debate issues and progress based on superior argument. It is a criminal offence for a black man to debate issues so that alternate ideas are generated. It is a criminal offence for a black man to debate issues so that others can be part of the resolution on matters that affects them. For heavens sake we were taught to debate as early as grade 3. For what you may ask. To sort out and solve everyday social problems. How can an organ of government at the highest level supposedly filled with the brightest and best the country has to offer not rigorously debate an issue that will have far reaching consequences for generations to come.... And you say this is normal.... If you are going to remove subsidy, close borders, raise taxes, or in this case impose debts on my generations to come or anything that affects my security and welfare shouldn't you ask me first and get my permission first. Is this not a democracy anymore. Shouldn't I ask you questions and trouble you for alternatives and isn't it your duty to persuade me that course is right having exhausted all other options. Is democracy no longer of the people, for the people.? Even God Almighty in the Bible says 'come let us reason together...' |
This is truly frightening. It means that at even at a low 3 percent mortality if this infection touches every human on earth we could see a population the size of Nigeria completely wiped off the face of the earth....some 240 million people. Little wonder the WHO remains focused on the spread rather than the cure. But for goodness sake where have virologists reached on the vaccine. They have sequenced the DNA of this virus weeks ago, what is holding back the process of designing the toggle switch. The world should be throwing money at them. The company that hits the vaccine first will be worth billions overnight. |
