Politics › Re: MURIC Reacts To Proscription Of Shi'ite (IMN) by Reference(m):
Oga Akintola you donot proscribe then negotiate. A couple in marraige doesn't get a divorce and then starts discussing how to live amicably. Proscription like divorce is the most subtle, civil act of war, of violence anyone can imagine. It means all channels of discourse are closed and the other party is persona non grata. It is symptomatic of the breakdown and failure of communication.

What we keep on asking in this country is: WHY IS IT SO HARD, SO DIFFICULT FOR GOVERNMENT TO BRING ITSELF TO NEGOTIATE WITH THE PEOPLES OF THIS COUNTRY.

In other climes constant negotiations are done between government and people on a wide range of issues. It is the basis for tje famed 'State of the Nation'. Why is our government so intolerant of its citizens which have a contrary view to the interests of a few. From the Niger Delta issue, the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, the herdsmen/settlers conflicts even Minimum wage.

Government always looks at citizens fighting for one right or the other as dissidents and criminals. This is not so. What this government and most before don't realise is that stamping out dissent is not a sign of strength but a sign of FEAR, of weakness. The greatest nations on earth there was and will ever be are those where universal liberties are upheld.

Nigeria will have developed a lot faster and gone far ahead of where we are if we had a series of governments that acted as responsible fathers who bring the kids together and keep them all happy. Not playing one against the other, not loving oone over the other but ensuring all of them grow and develop individually and collectively to their maximum capacities. Just one example.

If at the outset of this fulani menace the government had brought all parties together, reprimanded the offenders and empathised with the victims round a table, wounds will have healed, suspicions abated and possibly settlements allowed after all sides will have given something, sacrificed something. But this government kept quiet, shielded the wrongdoers and tried to impose on the victims, blaming them for their misery and getting upset at their resistance. Which father does that.

Nigeria is just a step away from peace and developmemt if it can just unlock fhe door of social justice. But as long as it continues to pursue and support the intersts of a few against the desires of the many, we will NEVER DEVELOP AS A NATION.

We have to sit down and negotiate the way we wish to live together as a peoples of this nation. The process of finding common ground where everyone sacrifices something to ensure justice, equity and peace so that we can speak one language of values is called RESTRUCTURING that I have always and will always advocate. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO ALTERNATIVE.
Politics › Re: Ministerial Screening: Fashola Advocates N10tr Infrastructure Bond by Reference(m): 4:04pm On Jul 29, 2019
I totally agree. 10 trillion is even not near enough to call it an investment, but two things will trigger my disapproval.

One, 10 trillion must be the bill of a business decision, the cost of a FID that has amongst its contents, a projected ROI within the shortest possible time. How many times has the government raised debt instruments only to lump it in the national debt without any tangible plan to repay. The infrastructure must be first, business oriented long before it is a social vehicle and far too long before it becomes a political donkey. So it is not a matter of pedantry geo politics but of strategy. The infrastructure invested in must yield raw cash in return first and not borne out of just a feel good, 'I have a road in my village ideology'.

Secondly it must be used as an instrument of economic recovery and economic development. Thus we need to completely re orient our economic ideology away from a consumer of goods and services to a producer of goods and services. If we donot, 10 trillion will become a millstone around our necks through runaway inflation. Infrastructure investing round the world is always a key economic stimulus tool except in Nigeria because we produce very little in the form of goods and services.

If all the rail lines and rolling stock will be produced in China and assembled in Nigeria by the Chinese then we are in trouble. If all the electrical components will be manufactured by Siemens AG and the power turbines made in the States by GE then all we will enjoy is capitsl flight. If all the dams, bridges and tunnels will be designed in the Czech republic and our perenial friends Julius Berger plc with their retinue of so called expatriates take home the lions share back to Europe we will only have our youth chase after them by sea while they fly overhead.

10 trillion is such a humongous amount that it should reach beyond providing infrastructure to reforming everything from our education sector to establishing industrial concerns such as steel, petrochemical and chemicals industries which are key drivers of development, the bricks and mortar of any country serious about moving forward.

I wholeheartedly support it but with serious caveats. We should think and talk first and very carefully before acting. It is as risky as the business of generating power from nuclear fusion.

Well since the government won't obey the law, the Shiites too should not be expected to. This is the anarchy the Executive has created.

Once again, when this thing goes south and needless lives and trillions of naira are lost, down the line you will be looking for them to negotiate and won't find any willing to come out.... because you have proscribed them... aka driven them underground.

Hindsight is 20/20. If only Nigerians could wind back the hands of time and perhaps wake malam Yusuf from the dead to handle the reins of his dear boko haram.

Even if our leaders lack vision, both foresight and hindsight, it is appaling that 180 million citizens sit quietly in complicity with this appaling failure of common reasoning. We learn nothing even from our worst mistakes and are eternally doomed to repeat them over and over again.

That is what we are saying. The average Nigerian is in a degenerative mental state of submissive feudalism. They don't see these people as leaders but as masters, not as political servants but as imperial overlords, not as mere organisers of society but as human empires, as institutions in themselves to be worshipped not to be employed and engaged with. The fear and reverence is domiciled in the wrong hearts.... in the hearts of those who should wield the power.

It finds its roots in the colonial era and it is not surprised that the poster was stuck in a warp between Amosun the Governor and Her Majesty, the Queen of England.

A pity.

But if he was a staunch PDP member firmly aligned to his region and antagonist of the central government he will have come under the scrutity and coercion of the federal government like his peers, not so?

Were folks not joining the APC in droves to avoid scrutiny and have any been hounded and harassed ever since joining the ruling party. You simply cannot spin this in anyway to make a cover cloth to hide the patent lack of an institutional framework to tackle corruption.

What you have is just an unprofessional, haphazard system wide open to abuse and political manipulation that has done absolutely nothing to scratch the back of the corruption monster these past four years. As a matter of fact corruption that used to be domiciled at the point of outbreak is now closer to the seat of central power than ever before.

All Okorocha needs to do is to start singing the praises of the powers that be in the APC and Presidency and it will all go away. Even a child in a far flung rural village knows that. Just 10? Federal Government and State Governments should assist this guy na. The vehicles ain't bad at all... Imagine imposing the car on all Senators and House of Representatives members won't be a bad idea...
Then Innoson will become lazy and indifferent and totally useless as the human products of our world infamous quota system. Subsidies are never a good idea. I prefer free market competition that brings innovation, hardwork and accountability. Too much baby sitting and spoon feeding industry is why France doesn't have a world class automobile brand. The French government keeps on propping Peugeot, Citreon and Renault to keep jobs and keep jobs in France but this has made those companies as cumbersome, sluggish and indolent as your typical civil service.

What the government can do should be restricted to evangelism not crusades of old 'preach buy Nigeria' but donot coerce, 'quotalise' or 'subsidise' their operations. Let the market decide.

What the government should do is to make the paddy as comfortable as possible for the company to thrive by driving infrastructure, removing bottlenecks to enterprise and most importantly prospering the average Nigerian citizen. The truth is that mass market automobiles are the preserve of the middle class. If the middle class expands Innoson will prosper naturally.

There is no money to give anyone a pay raise. No improvement anywhere to justify such. And no additional income to Nigeria to share. The government if pushed to the wall should just right size the public service.

Nigerians must push for legislation to cap recurrent expenditure or tie it to revenues at a set percentage. It is the generality of Nigerians that will bear the brunt of this viscious cycle of poverty.

This one has nothing to do with Boeing but everything to do with the ineptitude of the pilot.

You don’t get “sink rate” and “flights low” warning if you’re aligned with the runway. Even during instrument landing, you should be able to see the runway from 500 ft or you abort the landing.
Well it is procedure to see the runway before final approach but it is not always possible. This doesn't stop a landing in say bad weather, just makes it more nerving. If ILS is working the autopilot can touch the plane down on the threshold without problems and in zero visibility but you need to have ILS working, you need to have a competent pilot on board and you need to have the aircraft operating properly. If these three factors ae not in play for heavens sake abort the landing and head for the next port. Safe is always better than sorry.

There are pilots out there that are just crazy or stupid. For how long did they hear the warnings and still remained insistent on crashing. Even if they had reacted properly and engaged full power to climb out they would not have had sufficient time for the engines to react and provide thrust. I just wonder why pilots never react to system warnings in very many crashes.

They just continued carelessly. They were lucky that the contact surface was water. The story will have been different. If they thought they were on course ILS will have guided them in. But flying visual, totally blind and trying to land with system warnings is suicide.

Come to your senses Mr. Man. Nations are built by laws. The moment a government refuses to go by law it cannot expect the citizens to obey the same laws it disobeys. Who is government. What is government. Is it not a set of people we put there to organise society. They should do what we want in accordance with the laws we all agree to not what they want, how they want it.

If Yusuf had been charged to court and tried for multiple murders he will not be a matryr today even if he was executed for the murders. The Nazi's murdered 20 million, the Interehamway murdered a million in Rwanda. Only the courts and justice can break thd vicious cycle of violence by presenting the acussed with A JUST REASON WHY HE SHOULD DIE. after he has been given opportunity to speak his mind and defend himself.

This is the problem I have with jungle justice, it does not give the perpetuator opportunity to face his crimes and his fans and onlookers to think through the actions. It creates matryrs. People refer to Obasanjo and Odi. Did militant kidnapping not result from that in the Niger-Delta costing Nigeria billions. Did the Abacha hanging of Wiwa without trial not cost Nigeria.

Stop thinking like a primitive humanoid and start. This Shiite situation has no end but a civil one. The alternative is anarchy pure and simple. I absolutely have no RIP's for foolish citizens and stupid state actors.
Politics › Re: President Buhari Moves To Proscribe Shiites After Protest That Turned Violent by Reference(m): 9:18am On Jul 23, 2019
Instead of deescalating the situation, the government is further stoking the fire. It wants to drive them underground and then the real insurgency starts. I cannot imagine how foolish a set of leaders can be. Years down the line after thousands of lives are lost then you will looking for them to negotiate and telling Nigerians why you cannot 'find' them.

Mr Government, Mr Presidency, remember, you started all this. History should remember. Once is a mistake, two in short notice is a stupid avoidable tragedy.

Every Nigerian who has a brain in his head should advice this Presidency. The government has released him, the Presidency is insistent on a course to plunge this country into unimaginable tragedy.

For anyone here that is reading, search for the documentary of the making of the First 10 James Bond Movies, this was in the 1970s , no computer graphics, then compare to nollywoid in 2019,.....you will understand why the James Bond franchise is the oldest and most successful film franchise in the world today, people died in the making of those movies.....just to deliver excellence
Excellence starts with inspiration. Inspiration is the preserve of those who love to dream. Nollywood needs big dreams, inspirators, creative artists.... they need to spend money getting quality story tellers, quality visual artists. They need to raise the level of literacy and professionalism to broaden their appeal particularly on the international stage.

Whether we like it or not, the bulk of productions today find audience with the lower class of society, the less educated, the less enlightened and the less sophisticated both in content and in production. These folks are less likely going to invest the kind of resources needed to trigger an avalanche of investment. They are less likely to go watch the productions on the big screen.

There are a few productions and producers which try to raise the bar with modern, better quality and more captivating stories and adaptations but we must understand what an industry is. It is the general outlook not that of a few but on balance of the whole.

Bollywood too passed through this phase of stagnation and stiff foreign competition but responded well by modernising and opening up create various genres some of which targetted the west and others the upper middle class. Nollywood is essentially mono genre or non conformist at best. 99% of productions fit into the same category - drama.

The challenges with Nollywood are within and it should look within for solutions. Their productions appeal to an increasingly shrinking audience who are getting increasingly wary of eating the same fufu day after day.

While I can support the restriction of common goods and services such as farm produce or textiles and the rest, two things I can never support the restriction of is: intellectual property or creative property. These are the bricks and mortar of development in a globalised world. To restrict any of these is to retrogress. You start with films and music, where do you end.... magazines, books, journals.... scientific research.

It is a slippery slope. You need competition, peer review to make progress. The strides made in the Nigerian music industry of late is not only despite the abundance of foreign competition but leveraged on foreign competition to develop. Nollywood started its breakout far earlier than 'Kennywood' (I would attribute the Nigeria music renaissance to Kenny Ogunbe starting in the early 90's) but for some strange reason has stagnated and fallen far behind its performing arts counterpart.

Desmond should gather his peers and brainstorm on why this is so. There is very little intellectualism and professionalism in Hollywood. Growth and development has been disappointing despite the huge gains brought by the publicity and leverage of Multichoice and DSTv.
