Issue was identified. Issue was reported. Issue was reviewed. Action was taken.
Why are some people still unhappy about this report, out of all the possible takeaways?
When you see an issue, record it if possible, spread the info, and above all report to the appropriate authorities, and encourage others to do the same.
Citizen responsibility is one thing we have taken for granted. Kudos to all involved in reporting and addressing this issue. |

Our problem in this country is who we are!!!Well stated. Most of those blowing grammar on this thread are only waiting for their own opportunity to sit at a better table of corruption. Give them any position in government this very day and watch them become mellow and unreachable while making a killing. We are who we are! The rot is in the entire system and clearly visible in our daily activities on every street in Nigeria!! Peter Obi, Reuben Abati, Femi Adesina, Adams Oshiomhole, Babagana Kingide etc were all talking the talk but made insignificant impact when they got a seat. chidiokay: In a country where 80% of graduants wait for white collar job in a country where power supply can be interupted for 48hrs in a country were both the govt and citizens are looking for shortcuts

On the internet, the tears of 100 people sounds like tears of one million people. Personally, I have never seen a post with more than 1,000 likes on Nairaland, yet the place feels like old Oshodi market with hundreds of thousands of people. People complain everywhere but majority of the people doing well hardly have time for the internet, only the few ones whose jobs or business makes it easy for them to do social media/internet forum stuff. The struggling ones tend to be more vocal and visible, and that's perfectly normal. inoki247: Lol where did u get your statistics from 90 percent even in my opinion I didn't add statistics....

I have encountered many of your type at police stations. They are always very sober and remorseful at the end of the day when they learn that in Nigeria, the legal process is not always 1 + 1 = 2. Culture › Re: Meet Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, The Next Olubadan Of Ibadan by Shikena(m): 4:55pm On Mar 15, 2024 |
Spot on. Fryx: In Yorubaland, the only kings that wear beaded crowns (Ade Are) are the children of Okanbi from Ile ife.
These are considered royal stools, the rest are mostly installed by these people and don’t wear beaded crowns. They wore Akoto.
Ibadan is made up of warriors from old Oyo empire. They are largely independent from the then Oyo kingdom, but Alaafin Atiba install some overseer over them, which are his friend and very strong opponent (No Alaafin will keep a strong warrior close to home)
The overseers are Balogun ibikunke and Basorun Oluyole. However, this does not mean Ibadan people don’t have their own ruler.
Ibadan people are the ones that made the Olubadan title and agree on who to rule. They are mostly powerful warriors, so it’s not easy to attain a monarchical system among them.
That’s what’s meant by they are not real kings. But that doesn’t make them less powerful. They are the ones that preserve the new Oyo and fight off invaders when Oyo became powerless. Mostly because Oyo is their home. |
Culture › Re: Meet Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, The Next Olubadan Of Ibadan by Shikena(m): 4:53pm On Mar 15, 2024 |
Spot on. kunleham: Obaship ascension in Ibadan is totally different from the known and the common system in other Yoruba states and even other locations because the headship of Ibadan city wasn't meant to be an Oba in the first place, just a leader, who is expected to be the oldest among other elders, that's why there's no royal family in the town but succession of the oldest which also corroborate why the oba don't stay long. |
Culture › Re: Meet Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, The Next Olubadan Of Ibadan by Shikena(m): 4:51pm On Mar 15, 2024 |
If you find his comment stupid then you have no business discussing traditional institutions in Yoruba land. You must be one of the few Yorubas unaware that the Olubadan title was originally Baale just like many others in Yorubaland who later got elevated but without direct royal link with Oduduwa's immediate offsprings. This is not taking anything away from the position today, just a fact of history. These are settlements that were established much later in the history of Yorubas. There is nothing stupid in history, it's just a trail of events in the past whether comfortable or not, just like slave trade. bestman09: Stu.pid comment as usual. |
