haladadon:Buhari went to the NDA, , the Command and Staff College,Jaji and the National War College ,USA...and has a string of postgrad qualificaitons as a result. Even if you doubt...you cannot be an army officer in Nigeria without passing through NDA. Not since the 1960's. GEJ who went to unviersity faced two ASUU strikes, as did Yaradua. Atiku went to college for OND. The reason why we keep having strikes is because government cannot afford N1.1 trillion (formerly 3 trillion ) in extra funding for universities. GEj could not afford it...and he ran a 'prosperous economy' |
At the center of the ASUU strike is FUNDING. Is Saraki ready to agree to passing a bill that guarantees N1.5 trillion per year for the next 2 years to end the ASUU strike as agreed in 2009? The truth is....either we find a way to pour in N1 trillion every year for universites....OR ......fees go up. You cannot get $20000 per annum educaiton at less than $200.... |
TwoBottles:Thing is, the universites need TRILLIONS of naira...not mere billions. ASUU is asking for 1.1 trillion over 5 years. In 2013 it was 3 trillion over 2 years (according to an agreement set in 2009) The 1.1 trillion was a comedown from the original 3 TRILLION because in 2013 GEJ told ASUU that 3 trillion was not available. (And no, I am not blaming GEJ. He was being truthful). Fees have to go up. We have no choice. |
lexy2014:In answering that...here is how subsidy works. Suppose I am selling yam,and I bought the yam from the farmer at N1500 per yam (HYPOTHETICAL SITUATION....please!) Iplan to sell the yams at N2200 per yam,and make a profit of N700 per yam..so that I can recoup my transport costs, pay my workers, pay my eight kids school fees, and save some cash towards my house building project. Goverment steps in,and asks me to sell yam at N1300, and pays me a 'subsidy' of N200 per yam. In essence, government is bankrupting me. And now...imagine goverment does this to every yam seller in the country. Subsidy for fuel has been around since the 1970's....and since that time, what government does is make NNPC sell fuel below the production cost of that fuel....and they pay NNPC the difference between the production cost and the actual price. Which means NNPC barely has enough cash to fix refineries....and add the corruption and sabotage and 'government business is not my buiness'mentality there....and you have bad refinereis, and lack of cash to buildnew ones. (Which is partly why Atiku wants to privatise refineries.Now...I think Atiku is too corrupt...and isn't fit to be president...but he does have a point.) The problem is, either we run NNPC as a COMPANY or we admit it is a government office and run it as such. |
bkool7:Even if we reifne locally...I doubt we would sell fuel below N150 per liter... |
sagio09:Nigeria airways was not sold. NITEL...yes o, that story had as it be. NEPA: Part of the problem is that DISCOS are forced by the laws governing them to sell below power production price. That means they cannot raise enough cash to fix problems and expand generating capacity.(and why they cannot buy power from GENCOS) NNPC: Does not need selling...but the subsidy regimen means that they cannot make enough cash to fix stuff..as subsidy forces NNPC to sell below the production cost of fuel (plus corruption). |
Well, if you are not selling refinereis...then allow subsidy to go so that NNPC can function as a proper company, raise enough cash to fix all its refineries AND build new ones, and finally end all this subsidy cabal corruption stuff. |
hisexcellency34:The films are bad because piracy deprives the movie makers the resources to make better films. Early American films were very bad. But people paid money to watch them, and the money was reinvested in making better films. |
lavenderjade:Good afternoon and Athena and Zeus and Mars give you good life. And may Bacchus and Silenus pay you a visit tonight Arf.arf! ![]() |
She is telling the truth. If people upload films illegally, they deprive Nollywood of the much needed income to raise the quality and standard of our movie industry. All those American and European films you enjoy, they are that good because piracy is seriously fought over there. As a result, the film industry there earns a decent wage and money which can be invested in making better films and products and even train better actors and film production staff |
Daviddson:Copy and paste bloggers. Either way, the story shows how corruption thrives in high places |
KANUISALIVE:That's why you don't start with independence immediately. Start with stuff like 'autonomy', 'restructuring '. Herbert Macaulay did not start demanding for Nigerian independence from day one. He started with demanding for more seats in the Lagos house of representatives, then a legislative council for Nigeria, and more autonomy'for Nigeria as a part of the British Empire. It was only in the last two years of his life that he started talking about independence (Nnamdi Azikiwe took over when he died). And yes, Macaulay went to jail for his pains, and he was not fighting for independence even. Work within the system |

iyke926:I think I have intereacted with more civil servants in my day job than you have...and most of them did not read Islamic studies. Infact,a good propotion of them are even Christians. Plus, the North has a lot of graduates in different fields. I studied in a Northern University. The guys reading Islamic Studies and Hausa language and Arabic were in the minority. Most Northerners read secular courses. They too want to get some Western Educaiton. Many of them even sacrificed and hustled to get into University |
KANUISALIVE:Succesful, peaceful secessionists take part in the political process of the country that is 'opressing them' Democracy is hard work. Better get that. It is not by how many members...if you have no influence in the system, you won't get anywhere. Unless you want to take the violence route (not advised). |
iyke926:Most workers in FIRS and NNPC did not study islamic studies, and you know it. Most people who read Islamic studies end up working in the mosque or for Islamic groups. Not in the civil service. |
BlackPantherCri:And what if the person going into the job with a lack of qualifications makes mistakes that lead to the wrecking of our Nigerian economic system, and our system of governance. Let's not justify bad things in the name of religion. Am sure you won't like it if you went to a government hospital and got treated by someone who is not qualified for the job of treating you, yet got there via 'connections'...and has even done his thanksgiving in chruch. You Nigerians are the problem with this country, honestly. |
Very true And that is a big reason why Nigeria's economy is not prosepring...because people have an attitude that man know man...even when the person using the 'connections' doesn't have the qualificaiton. The way we misuse religion in this country...is very sad. |
Rockyjennyfred:Mr Rockyjennyfred...you and your friends are crooks. Drop this scam and repent. On to the topic. A lot of IPOB members were jumping up and down for joy when Scotland got their referendum. That is where the idea of referedum and Biafrexit came from. But what many IPOB members forget is that it took the Scottish National Party 80 years to get to the point where they could hold the referendum. 80 years of cooperating with other parties in the British Parliament, 80 years of alliances, of learning things,of running government at local level, of passing laws and sacrifices...but they got there. (Meanwhile, Sinn Fein has been doing strong head since 1920 in Northern Ireland....and up till today, they are still where they are. It is only in the last ten years that they have started slowly engaging.... My advice to IPOB, even to the guys who are shouting...Don't vote...we won't gain anything from Nigeria...is simple. Go and vote. Yes, PDP is offering restructuring. Yes, they may not even give you restructuring or referendum, and yes,it is going to take decades before you get there. But the thing is...either you play the long game...or risk civil war round 2. And while you are at it...start meding fences. Already, most if not all minority tribes in the South SOuth and Middle Belt don't want to identify with Biafra. That is because you people have not addressed how they will benefit from Biafra. Like the idea of resource control....what is Kanu saying about resource control ? Is Biafra going to allow oil priducing communites that are mostly non Igbo control their resources 100%? The harsh truth about democracy which many people don't know is that it is a lot of patient hard work. And sometimes, like Moses, you may never see the promised land...but your grandchildren may. |
hucienda:NCAN Central labs reporting for duty. We are passing the names through our new computer NCAN 5000... Colvin Norman' and 'Gamtoi Cauva NCAN Computer replies : INDETERMINATE.INSUFFICENT DATA. Nelson Igwe and Nnamdi Andrew Resultof reanalysis: Nigerians. |
0koyeeboz:Well,I am not an Atiku or Buhari supporter...I just gave you my opinion. |
While Pogu is from the North East...he also is technically speaking from the Middle Belt too... It's complicated....but the Middle Belt is usually used to refer to either the minorities in the North regardless of religion, the Christian Northerners, or the Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Plateau, Nassarawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe region... Franklintush:You are a scammer. Get a real job please. Stop trying to be like sergey On topic. Nice coat. |
Demper:Why can't you use your winning ticket by yourself, stake N500000 on it...and reitre early. Why must you look for subscribers.? You are running some fishy business...and anyway, what you are doing is illegal. FIFA does not like fixed games. On the topic...that's a superior mechanic. |
banio:1.We should stop this myth that every working Nigerian is earning N19000 or 30000 monthly. That's not true. 2.Thing is, the money to pay for subsidy is not there again. We sell crude oil at $60 per barrel....while we need it at $140 per barrel to run a fully functioning economy. We also don't have the cash to keep on paying high salaries. 3.If we deregulate...we save billions of naira...which might even be enough to raise salaries. Then there are the extra jobs and extra investment that would flow in as a result. 4.We have to deregulate. Or we keep on pouring money into the corrupt subsidy system. |
deboysben:1.50billion won't sort the ASUU strike issue. Universites need at least N1.1trillion...over the enxt five years. Even if bubu gave them N50bn, it won't solve the problems. |
eyeview:Exactly... I too was very amused when people were saying Dangote refienry would lower prices. It won't. And I agree with deregulation. The problem is....MOST nigerians think it is a bad idea....DESPITE the fact that we have not been able to afford it for 10 years! |
OmoManU:Essentially, the cost of fuel from Dangote's refinery is above the government subsidised price of N145. So,either government puts Dangote fuel under subsidy...OR we remove fuel subsidy. |
If only Japan had not voted out GEJ four years ago... |
Earthbound:You become the very stuff of stars... |
Earthbound:Who dash monkey banana? |
Discovery of oil in North does not mean Nigeria would split. Because if Nigeria splits, Southern Nigeria or biafra would be taking money from the North in transit fees. Whereas under one Nigeria, no such thing as transit fees. On the other hand, this is bad news. More oil means lower prices due to glut.Plus it only makes us Nigerians lazier. Nigeria is not a developed nation because we think oil money will pay for everything. That is half baked economics. Time we got.off oil. Saudi Arabia may look rich from oil, but they are vulnerable. Better we go industrial |
