davidif: ha ha ha, of course, the minister embezzles 4 million, the gov takes his share and at the end of it all, you have only 700,000 left for the project he he he . And then the incumbent govt would now set up a committee to look into how the money was spent which means more money for the committee members. Nigeria is a joke |
Politics › Re: Kaduna State To Produce Fuel From Sugarcane by Uche2nna(m): 9:44pm On Sep 18, 2008 |
@ debo
I agree that Sugar cane might rank behind Corn in terms of use but that does not negate its importance as a food source or additive or whatever U want to call it.
U just admitted that we dont produce enuff sugar cane for local consumption, I wonder what the scenario would be when extra burden is added to that little amount we produce.
Brazil have not run into a sugar cane crisis cos they produce enuff. |
Politics › Re: Kaduna State To Produce Fuel From Sugarcane by Uche2nna(m): 8:14pm On Sep 18, 2008 |
debosky: If Brazil can achieve the highest levels of production of ethanol in the world with their sizable oil and gas reserves, there is no reason why we cannot do the same, with the caveat that food production is not sacrificed for this to occur. U think? Thats the whole downside to this project. In the long run , it is going to make that food commodity very expensive. Once faced with the prospect of trying to balance sugar cane as a food source and as a substrate for energy production , the feasibility of this goes out the window!!! debosky: It is a good idea to produce ethanol - Sugar cane is an excellent feedstock to use as it achieves a positive energy balance for production It is always a good idea to produce anything However, the question is at what cost Are there other cheaper and more efficient means? How much can U produce and how abundant is ur raw material? I think Kaduna state would make more revenue by investing in sugar cane farming with the goal of exportation than generating ethanol from a very much in demand feed commodity. |
Politics › Re: Kaduna State To Produce Fuel From Sugarcane by Uche2nna(m): 7:03pm On Sep 18, 2008 |
I have always questioned the use of food commodities to produce energy. Does not make sense to me at all. Why do we always like to reinevent the wheel? Ethanol was and maybe is still produced from corn but that caused a lot of problems cause of the competition between corn as a food source and corn as substrate for energy. This led to trying other substrates of less economic importance. So it does not make sense to me that Nigeria is investing money in using food sources as energy substrate knowing fully well the problem it has caused in the past. Some poster mentioned cow dung and that reminded me of an article that I read. Actually, some form of microorganism have been identified in chicken waste that could potentially produce ethanol in commercial quantities. Why not invest money in some form of research geared towards isolating that microorganism from cow dung. If the organism grows in chicken wastes , I dont see why it should not grow on cow dung? |

Kobojunkie: Since when did the topic become about what is wrong in the country? Please stick to topic here.
Yar Adua did not hide his health status from the Nigerian people. The people chose of their own volution to turn a blind eye to it. This man’s health situation has been known for over 9 years now. Suddenly you want to make it the issue? Come on!!! Dont even make me start on that issue Which Nigerian people? |

bilymuse: Planner Oga planner , Why this unprovoked attack on my person, its unfair. I was only saying the truth, which lm sure you are aware of. l don't hate the Ibo people and have vigorously advocated for Ibo president while in Nigeria. I back Alex Ekwueme against OBJ, because l felt he was better qualified.
but he truth is that some Ibo folks are deluded, how could you claim to be Jewish, when you are not. Its called inferiority complex and a lot of Ibos are suffering from this mental disorder ever since they lost the Biafra war. You guys truly have my sympathy. Those are speculations that are have not being either proved nor disproved. The thread was for people's opinion on the viability of Nigeria but trust Nairaland members to turn it into a mudslinging contest. @ topic You don't need a crystal ball to know that Nigeria is in need of a major shake up. Could come in the form of a revolution (don't see that happening because of the huge tribal differences) or in the form of a dissolution ( more feasible in my opinion). Truth is that we can't keep on living like this. Something has to give. |

Akinagirl: Wasn't the past this is present. She is currently sleeping with this other man, so. Poster, I don't understand what u want help with. You don't have to tell him anything, but if he asks, don't lie. The truth will come to light someday. So you need to be on your toes. I thot she had stopped. And if not, why dont she stop? Is it that hard? As for keeping it away from the man, U really dont wanna start ur marriage built on a pack of lies. And believe me it would soon turn into a pack of lies cos once U tell one lie, U tell another to cover the first lie and before U know it , |

The MEND issue is becoming a real source of concern but this Govt's attitude is even more disturbing than MEND's militancy. NDDC has been around for over sometime and suddenly those clowns come up with the Ministry of Niger Delta. How is that different from the NDDC? They now want the Ministry to come up recommendation and draw some sort of plan to solve the Niger Delta issue. How is that different from what NDDC has been doing? As if that is not enuff, 40 man technical committee was also set up to look into the issue What is up with Nigeria and all these redundant committee Can someone tell these guys that the issue is not formulation but rather implementation? |
