Well, the main ingredient for a lasting marriage is love. If I love a Mexican-American or Caribbean-American lady, I don't see why I shouldn't take the relationship one step further.

No culture/nation has a monopoly of 'humble' wives, or wives that love to cook..
Honestly, I love your submission.

If believing in the concept of respecting your husband or wife, honor and loyalty, the self integrity of being a provider, being head of the household and playing your God given role is 19th century thinking then we Africans are so lucky!
Don't get my point wrong....
What you listed up there are good values.

I'm talking of the extreme cases......
Like feeling you have the right to treat your wife as shit (many men from Nigeria have no problems with this, we both know that)

Deliberate misbehaviour (We know we are all human and we make mistake, but doing things anyhow, because you feel your wife can not do shot is 19th cemtury thinking)

And the list goes on.

He/She who does not value family should not get married )

Naija women living overseas have become more westernized than the westerners themselves. This is why the average Nigerian man living abroad will rather marry a fat white woman than a Nigerian woman living overseas. I have seen and heard situations were Nigerian/African women have ruined the lives of promising young men by formulating fictitious tales of domestic abuse and rape, simply because they want to get hold of his assets.
I like that point you made Mr. Claremont, being more western than westerners...

For some of them I have met, oh lawd, too obnoxious.
The laws are there to protect women, not for you to threaten and ruin men, but because they know they can manipulate their way, they turn everything up side down

I don't know about any other country but the U.S is a demonic country that ends upsucking the life out of most men at the same time make women power hungry. Due to the feminist theory, the democrat controlled government tries really hard to over compensate for what they termed as injustice. From women's rights to gay rights, real men are no longer seen as a priority. To illustrate consider the rankings:

1. White Women
2. White Male
3. Asian and Hispanic females
4. Asian and Hispanic males
5. Black females
6. Black males.

The above illustrates the real problem black males face in the U.S. A country where shows like real housewives of L.A or Atlanta, Dr. Phil, Oprah and so on. Men are learning to accept their role as number 2 in the house while women are encouraged to take control. This to an African man is a taboo. Imagine not being able to rely on your wife to cook you a good meal or not being able to give your parents or siblings money without getting permission from your wife. Imagine not being able to have an argument with your wife without her calling the police and getting you kicked out of your own home. Our African brothers believe those women back home though they are not perfect are still respectful of the society and traditions to be humble. Of course this theory is not perfect as we have seen a lot of guys coming back home to marry women related to lucifer but as an African man the reward outweighs the risks!
I think the major problem with we Africans, who live in western countries is that there is this socio cultural expectation(s) that was ingrained in us, about how a man/woman should act/behave etc, and because it is in contrast with the liberal societal expectations of the West, then it causes friction.

Let like minds marry each other biko shocked

If your brain and expectation is still stuck in the 19th century, then you know what to do

Any black man can claim to be a Nigerian, eg Buhari and Aisha are from Chad.

It does not exactly work like that, besides, you have to bring documentation too.......
Lastly, can someone named Yeboah or Edinah claim zamfara? Lol....

They all have it. Even folks from Cotobou, Gambiaa etc have it.
Why would they want to have a Nigetisb passport?

Besides, in the past, this was possible, but right now, with the biometrics and stuff, it is hard for anyone to just get a Nigerian passport.

If you think I'm lying, just pretend that your passport is missing, and see how you will sweat before getting another one.

I do not think they are wrong here.
To kill someone for the sheer fact he is Igbo does not augur well for Nigeria and anyone for that matter.

If the Northern person can claim the oil in outback of SS and SE.
If the Yorubas can claim development and the federal infrastructure built by the tills of the oils and taxes of traders, workers of igbos and non igbo alike.
Why should the Igbo not be able to claim any land where they live, pay their dues and legitimately do their business Legit business that it.

This is the same notion held since 1960 that has kept the country backward. the country tried to firewall the Igbos even as way back 1962. Just 2 years after independence.
Why? Nigerians and indeed the Northern Elite had the notion igbos where arrogant, too forward, forceful and their never-back-down spirit. These notions is still prevalent today. Instead of embracing their nature, free entrepreneurial spirit and celebrating their acceptance of one Nigeria as pronounced in the No Victor No Vanquish statement after the war.

They are rather hounded, suppressed and told to be grateful and be respectful to their hosts anywhere outside the east else they will repeat what they did in the past. A sad macabre genocide in my opinion. With the proponents still in power and majority of them alive today.

My dear, a fool dies so many times before his death.

the Igbos are dearing. It is there nature.
We all can not be the same thing.

We should tolerate our difference, as even with all their mouth or "supposed"arrogance they still move to Lagos or North to do their business because they know at the end it all about securing your life and pronounce that you are alive, since there is a silent agreement to shut-out the igbos.

They blocked them from employment in early sixties in the North.

They introduce the Quota system to curtail the numbers of igbos and indeed southernerns (including the Yorubas who were reluctant to join the Army prefering Civil services and white collar jobs instead) in the Civil services and other professions even when on merit they are clearly better then the others.
From 1966-1970 the Nigeria state under the young military officers of which the present President was the driver of the truck that picked up the killed Igbo military men in the 1966 Northern Coup and the extensive Killings of Igbos and other Southernerns in the North for the fear they are Igbos and the fear of Decree 34 announced by Agunyi Ironsi.

My dear, if you are from this tribe you will do worst after what they have been through in the hands of Nigeria.

So don't blame them.
Walk in their shoes or read their history then you will understand their angst.

I read it and i have not remained the same again as i could not reconcile my hatred against these people before now.

I sympathise with them now. We need to talk about the 1960 to 1999 Igbo conundrum for them to be at peace.
Thank you very much for your comment

Only if other ethnic groups have been through what the Igbo has faced.

But one thing I know is...... Come what may, born in every Igbo man is an unquenchable zeal to succeed, and no matter what we face, we still thrive and progress,, whether anybody likes it or not

Even though i condemn the killing of innocent people, i think the Igbo's need to be law abiding and respect their host for peace to thrive. Not everyone will be peaceful and accommodating like the yoruba's who ignored several provocations from the Igbo's despite calling Lagos a no man's land, calling yoruba's tenants in lagos, and calling Oba of lagos names for stating his opinion concerning governorship elections. Even though we are one Nigeria, i think the Igbo's should stop their dominating attitude and let peace reign when they are away in the SW or North sad

Macbooks are manufactured in the US hence the citizens acquire it at cheap prices. Anyway, methinks there's no need for this comparison. Most white folks live fake lives. They live on credit that's why they rely heavily on the credit card system which they must pay back. We in naija use debit cards mostly hence your account must be well funded before you can make a purchase. My point is I believe in Nigeria. I'm not carried away by whatever happens in the West. Nigeria shall be great.

If you have known poverty , your view would be different. If you know women who suffered in the hands of the men in their lives simply because they were not empowered, you would know why your mother made her choice. If you've seen women thrown out on the streets because their husbands died, you would understand that career choices can make a home.

Although a balance would need to be created so that the kids don't suffer. These things are not mutually exclusive.
That's another angle to it, the psychology.....

You are right
Career › Re: Career Or Marriage, Which One Do You Work For? by Ugosample(m): 11:07am On Aug 04, 2016
In my opinion, I think both can be achieved, maybe not at the same time, but it can be achieved.

But for this to be achieved, one needs the full support of the partner in working things out, and to cover any vacuum you may leave while you are out there pursuing what you are pursuing.

And besides, I think Family should come before career, as there is nothing to balance; Career has expiry date, but your family lasts even after you are gone.

But that does not mean that one (be it a man or a woman) cannot have a good career, and a stable family to be proud of.
