Have you driven past the lekki-epe toll gate recently

If you have then you must have noticed that the roads are wearing fast, the lane markers have mostly washed away, the street lights don't work at night in most sections between phase 1 and Chevron.

So what exactly are Lagosians paying for? Why pay N200/N250 everytime one passes that road?

Since it's obvious that the money made from that road isn't used to keep the road in tip-top shape, then what is the money used for?


If there are 20 stalls and 10 cars pass per minute, each paying N200 then every minute the toll gate makes:

20 x 10 x N200 = N40,000

So for every hour we multiply this number by 60, so every hour the toll gate makes:

N40,000 x 60 = N2,400,000

Multiply this number by 17 hours to be conservative instead of 24 hours, then every day the toll gate makes:

N2,400,000 x 17 = N40,800,000

Multiply this number by 30 days and we get the money made from the toll gate each month:

N40,800,000 x 30 = N1,224,000,000


Now you tell me if N1,224,000,000 every month is not enough for a sincere government to maintain that road and make sure that potholes are fixed, the street lights all work and the lane markings are always re-painted.

I was shocked to see on the front page of this site, a projection for the 2023 presidency!

We just finished a freaking election, shouldn't the news be about the victory, defeat, cabinets, manifestos and so on? Shouldn't it be time to start holding the Buhari government accountable again on a day to day basis.

Do Nigerians just live for elections, or do they truely want a better Nigeria? How can you be fixated on 2023 elections which is 4 years away, when the country has a myriad of problems that need to be tackled right NOW.

By all means, they should increase tariffs, but they can't do that and still cheat the masses. For instance, in our house, we have been fighting for over 3 years to get Pre-paid meters, but there is always one excuse or the other, only for them to bring outrageous bills at the end of the month. Once, there was hardly power for a month and we still paid 10s of thousands that month. So how do we trust tariff increases?

If a tariff increase comes with the mandate of providing pre-paid meters, I'm sure most Nigerians will comply.

People are already rocking cheap android phones with fingerprint scanners for like N30,000, election validations are already done with biometrics, so as you can see bro, there is no excuse for Nigeria to be conducting elections by dropping papers in boxes in highly volatile areas, when in just 10 milliseconds, you can have the same vote automatically go to a main server and totaled!

When we sort out free and fair voting, I have no doubt that new breeds of politicians not in APC and PDP will get to positions of power needed to affect change.

That's why History should be taught in Nigeria. I remember when I was learning American History and we would ready the slavery passages. Our proffessor would always tell us that she knows it's hard for all of us to read it, but the whole point of this "is so that we learn from our mistakes". It was very uncomfortable sitting next to a white guy and reading about how slaves were whipped and whatnot and I'm sure it was for him as well, cause he was not responsible for his ancestors actions, but we all understood that by learning history, we can void making the same mistakes.

If we taught history in Nigerian schools, it would be there in black and white in their History 101, that Buhari overthrew a democratically elected government and students from a young age would have known who and what Buhari is and not think that it is propaganda when his detractors speak.

My Job now, besides my day job, is to try to educate as many more Nigerians as I can between now and 2023 to get them on the side of reason. Just imagine if Sowore or Moghalu had won?
