I don’t think there is any misjoinder of offences here.

A university degree is not a paper! taken nothing away from the polytechnic graduates, with all their skills they still need someone who understands the theories that drive the practice and that is why, university graduates should always have an edge. Without theories there's no productivity.
Have you taken a careful examination of polytechnic graduate writing skills?
It’s relative. Some, and I would say quite a lot, of graduates from Nigerian Universities too cannot even write application letters. Punctuations are so bad - and they are even bereft of Skills needed by employers these days.

Truth is, many Nigerian graduates are unemployable: largely due to the obsolete system of education though - Polytechnic or University alike.

But the discrimination is not in Knowledge - it’s in the ranks and remuneration structure. It’s a subtle way of influencing prospective students to apply to Polytechnics as well - which would at least reduce the huge population seeking a University degree.

If you ask me - it’s a good thing. But overhaul all the curriculums for courses in the UNI and Polys already- it’s not 21st century like!

EducationRe: Best Law Books For Law Students: A Must Read For Aspiring Lawyers by Venerable612(m):
Personally; I will advise any law student to

1. Start reading the Judgments of the superior courts of record especially the cases you are taught in class. Don’t rely on someone’s interpretation in text books - unless it’s a complex case.

2. And most importantly: follow global and local issues by subscribing and reading the FT, the Economist and Nigerian dailies religiously. Like every day yu must follow the trend.

I am not saying the OP is wrong; But I didn’t read any of those stuff - save Perhaps
1. Emily Finch and Fafinsky’s Legal Skills - Hust because it was compulsory for Legal Skills module.

2. And Dworkin’s, Rawl’s and Bingham’s Legal theory and Rule of Law - because they were compulsory for Jurisprudence.

You are better off if you are commercially aware, and you passively learn the art of legal argument/writing by reading the court’s cases early in your law adventure.

I don’t think so. Check out her FB Page - she seems to be really passionate about the whole water spirit thingy.

Truth is many persons are possessed with one strange spirit or the other (females are mostly possessed with water spirits).

Many females will not admit - but Yh, loads are possessed with this water spirit. Some see it only in the dreams, others can manifest it real life. Some are even married to them. It’s grade by grade... they have got hierarchy (I know this from experience - and pls don’t ask me, Cos I won’t tell).

Sad, but It’s a fact of life. They are what the bible call principalities, powers, and rulers of this world. There is more to this world than meets the human eyes. So many people you meet ever my day are not real human beings.

I pray the Lord save our souls - and deliver the young lady from her delusions.

all these suicide claim should be investigated, most are murder disguised as suicide
Very true- Buh if you ask me, many Nigerian police are not taught real policing work.

In this girl’s case - they would need
1. Autopsy to determine cause and time of death
2. Who visited her last, or where she visited last
3. May be trace her last calls, and texts
4. Whether she had medical issues - chronic depression inclusive
5. Determine who had motives to kill her.
6. Finger prints in her room or if there is a possible murder weapon
Etc.

I really doubt the Nigerian police has such capabilities. Even if they do, they are usually only motivated when it’s a death with public interest. It’s so convenient to rule everything as a suicide - when in fact it’s not.
Christianity EtcRe: Where Did God Come From? by Venerable612(op): 8:44am On May 05, 2019
NPComplete:
OP I am going to respond to a few of the things u have said.

Logically, we understand that the universe was created by God. What we do not understand is how God himself came to be.

Nope. No we don't understand this. We only think so. There is no proof for it yet. That's why it is faith.

It only means God has always been - had no beginning and will have no ending.

If this is true, could He also have had other co-eternal beings? I mean it is so convenient to think that only God is eternal.

Nope it doesn't mean that. Even if we agree that God created the universe, that does not mean God has no beginning and ending. For all we care to imagine, God could have been created by another God. God could be another race of celestial beings existing in higher planes and dimensions.

And yes, God could have co-eternal beings. It is just improbable for one being to come out of nowhere and exist of itself. The parameters that allow for such a complex being to exist also means other equally complex beings can also exist within the same space.

So it is more likely there are many Gods than only one God.

Or perhaps, could this just mean human logic cannot explain Spiritual mysteries - demonstrating the finitude of human knowledge.

There are no spiritual mysteries. Everything created by God can be understood and catalogued given sufficient time. That's the way God wants it. And we must keep increasing in knowledge daily. That is the duty of man. To continually search out the hidden physical mysteries through science and better ourselves and our world by it. Only thieves and rogues talk about spiritual mysteries only they themselves have gleaned from mysterious figures that cannot be shared with the rest of humanity easily

Regardless - the origin of God still remains a mystery! And we have to make Heaven to find that out.

And who says when u get to heaven u will find out the origin of God? How are u sure u ever will? What if u get to heaven and find you are just a manifestation of the God u speak of fumbling for meaning and purpose within the boundaries of eternity?
I agree and disagree with you.

Our knowledge of God is limited.

But as Bentrand Russell once argued - The general acceptance that there is a concept called GOD could only mean two things.

1. That God is either the best creation of Man.

2. Or, He is just who we say he is... God himself.

But the reality is against the first assumption. A CREATED image of man can not explain how our earth can hang in space and spin without ever falling off ... or how we have such a vast galaxy.

“The two main stars closest to our Galaxy are Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B, which form a binary pair. They are an average of 4.3 light-years from Earth. The third star is Proxima Centauri. It is about 4.22 light-years from Earth and is the closest star other than the sun”

We are talking about billion of years in human time... and those are just the nearest stars to earth.

When you think about all these things... There is a an extremely powerful force at play. Organising things... and ensuring the whole Universe does not go into chaos.

God must be - the only question is where He is from. Hopefully we can ask the father in Heaven... by Gods grace.
EducationRe: Can I Complete Masters In Law Under 18 Months In A Nigerian Uni? by Venerable612(m): 9:28am On May 04, 2019

Experience yes does come with practice ...and dedication .you are right on the corporate law aspect .All adverts always come with have masters in equivalent course .really annoying .Must a lawyers have llm sef? What other masters do you feel a lawyer will benefit from .I know of some lawyers with MBA
Tbh with you, there is no hard and fast rule about it.

A masters degree should ideally be for more hands-on knowledge of a chosen career path. Like people who wants to work in the UN humanitarian organisation now - would do well to study International Human Rights Masters...Etc.

But lots of people just do masters for doing sake - perhaps with the believe that any masters degree should get you ahead of the competition.

So basically - it depends on your area of practice. MBA, e.g., is good for lawyers that one to run their own thing - like your personal business or law firm. Or perhaps you want to go into executive positions in banks and corporate organisations. But most MBAs, abroad though, require at least 2 years work experience so it may not be good for someone who is freshly out of Law School/NYSC.

I think Lawyers can benefit from considering emerging market opportunities before taking up any masters degree. There is a lot of tech stuff going on now - so a lawyer with MsC in Law and Technology can really do well and carve a niche for himself.

Masters in Corporate Finance Law is also very good - capital market is an open field to make lots of money. Masters in Oil and Gas and Renewable energy is also very good in Nigeria - with both fields gradually coming up.

A lawyer should not also belittle recognised certifications - like the arbitration stuffs - lots of money to be made there, even after retirement. But these stuffs are also good if the lawyer has strong specialty in a field, say Oil and Gas LLM.

Tbh - traditional legal practice is not just enough to excel now.

This is one of the reasons I wonder y lawyers even bother to do masters .sometimes I feel they don't need it and should just do masters in other degrees that will benefit them.law is all about knowledge and experience this knowledge comes from books which no matter how many masters u have u must continue reading and updating by going for seminars, conferences.

Its only Nigeria that takes masters as a big deal other countries place experiences above masters
I think you are right. The biggest lawyers in Nigeria are those doing Election Tribunals and Constitutional Law disputes. And you don’t get taught how to ace election petition or constitutional disputes in masters. It comes with reading Nd experience.

Buh for Corporate and Commercial practice - Masters may be necessary - most organisations recruit based on credentials - and experience come with practice.

Thank you for this detailed post.
I would like to do IP LLM and I dont think many Nigerian universities give room for specialisation.
Tbh... I doubt IP LLM is a stand-alone masters in any University in Nigeria. It may, however, be taught as a module in a Commercial And Corporate Law LLM, if there is anything like that in the Schools, but you probably might have to research into each Uni’s Masters program.

But Yh that choice makes a whole lot of sense - the market for IP in Nigeria is quite fresh - not so many big IP disputes that I know of, but regulatory compliance are still a big deal.

If you are considering travelling - Uni of Manchester is quite a good school for IP LLM. Hope that helps

If you really want to continue education, you should not be afraid of emigration, this is definitely not the worst thing that can happen. Feel free to submit documents where you want and do not be afraid of anything, everything will be in order.
I think he is conscious of the cost; from his post, he seems to be more inclined towards public unis.

Buh most Nigerian unis run pure LLM and very little opportunity for specialisation... so the masters is more like a glorified LLB.

Best bet would be to really save up and emigrate - there is more room for specialisation (AI LLM, IP LLM, Corporate Law LLM, Law with Finance MSC, Maritime LLM, Space Law LLM, Oil and Gas LLM, etc.);

and, even if you do decide to come back to Nigeria, you would have a real prospect at top tier organisations/law firms.

The question for determination is not wholly about defection...

It’s whether you can defect and still retain the offices you had as a member of another party. So Saraki became Senate President oweing to the majority APC members and zoning... Buh defecting to PDP he still held on to that position.

If you ask me - the office vests in the person, by virtue of his party - but the office becomes personal upon appointment. If Saraki messes up - it’s his name on the line - it has got nothing to do with APC. The office is that of Senate President - not Parties politics.

Bro, the future of diamond bank is bleak. This is an acquisition not merger. If you followed the trail of happenings, you'd understand better.
Diamond bank should be competing with Access not 'merging' under normal circumstances.
I understand why you are confused... you probably are not familiar with schemes of merger.

From a legal perspective-
A merger occurs when two separate entities combine forces to create a new, joint organization.
That’s Access had to change its logo... and Shareholders of Diamond are compensated with cash and shares in the new organisation- so in sense, schemes of merger are more friendly.

Meanwhile, an acquisition refers to the takeover of one entity by another. Very little negotiation is done here... it’s just an organisation acquiring another - nd the target company may not havea say in the matter.

You can read up Part XII of the Nigerian Investments and Securities Act to understand better.

Again- nothing wrong with a company seeking to gain competitive edge Nd increase customer value - even if it means loosing your identity. It’s different from collapsing - Cos at that point the company will be underpriced/undervalued and investors may not even want to deal at all.

But Access Nd diamond bank merger is one of the most sort after stocks on the capital market now. Investors are looking forward to the union
