justfash50:Thank you for your comments... I am very happy to educate you on this; and with all respect I really do not need to watch a debate from politicians to know what they can do or cannot do. 1. You are right that the iju-ebutemeta rail is a federal railway. On a second thought - I think it’s part of the plan for the Ibadan Lagos railway construction - perhaps that’s the reason the Lagos state government isn’t touching it. But your logic on federal railway does not work - especially where the ruling party is also the ruling state government. The Lagos/Abk express road (fro Oshodi to Sango) is a federal road - Buh the Lagos state government is the one constructing it. It all depends on the agreement - so if the state wanted to work on a rail network - the federal government should naturally oblige. 2. You are wrong about the power stuff - and I have attached an extract of the concurrent list to you. State governments can indeed generate and legislate on power generation if they want. It simply is a lack of political will - because some of these politicians are benefitting from the present structure. There is no legal hurdle more than what the constitution says... if you want to create your gridlock - your HoA simply needs to legislate on rhis, approve the budget and implement. It’s just like Education - you can create your own policies. Don’t be hoodwinked by what politicians says.

Gerrard59:All the things himself and yourself mentioned were done/started during this line of APC governorship administration. He has not added anything new. PS: 1. I am surprised though - we have a rail line running from Iju to Ebute meta... no is talking about renovating that and getting better trains... They are all interested in building a new one? Is it that those previous rail lines can’t be relayed and used by newer trains or they simply want to keep using those trains in a ‘mega city’? Something is fishy. 2. And I am disappointed APC is not considering investing in Lagos’s personal power grid. There is so much money to be made by the private and public sector if Lagos could define its on energy generation and distribution sector - so that Lagos could at least have near-24 hours power supply. Enough of building roads, rails and bridges- those are all basic government responsibilities. |
MAYOWAAK:You are right about your last two sentence. Buh I think some systems of government encourage good governance than the other. For example, with so much power at the federal level - it’s much easier to manipulate things and get away with it (Reason for high corruption in Nigeria). With parliamentary- it’s much more difficult because the legislature has more power - and since the executives are also members of the parliament - policies are more rigorously scrutinised before being implemented. It also avoids wastage and too much concentration of power in the central govt. Regardless - It is going to be difficult to get this bill to pass into law. I doubt those guys in the centre will want to relinquish their powers and privileges. |
Gerrard59:There does not need to be any dispute. The FHC has jurisdiction over M&A transactions. Court orders must be obtained for intermediate and large transactions 1. prior (for each party’s shareholder to meet on the proposed merger) and 2. after approval by the SEC (to sanction -in principle give legal backing - to the M&A and all the transfer of shares/assets). But for small M&As - only the second stage highlighted above is needed. See e.g screenshot below from Monday:
|
Gerrard59:The FHC sanctions the M&A |
Johnson5258:Amen... and so shall it be by Gods grace. |
Sheggy13:Yes... about the Ikare... Buh at present... Ayo ni seems to be largely financing this project - I m sure they are making those decisions based on convenience and authority of their spiritual head (Baba abidoye). Wherever it is... at least they are honouring the spiritual head by name the uni after him. That should be enough to carry on the man’s legacy. |
wisdomhuz:The spiritual head of the sect (Ayo ni) spearheading the University is from Omu Aran as well. The Church already has its holy ground (Ori oke) there - so I imagine that’s the motivation to settle for Omu Aran. By the way - there is a story that Bishop Oyedepo’s mum was also a member of Cherubim and Seraphim Church. Omu Aran has over the years been a strong CnS town.

FarahAideed:While I share your resolve about Buhari’s non-negotiable exit - his administration was not so woeful against the BH. Recall how many times the FCT was bombed under Jonathan? And the BH had a huge control over Borno, Adamawa and some other Northeastern states at the time. Lots of wins in this administration on the BH War - but they could have done better still. My only reservation against Buhari’s administration is his nepotism, dictatorship style of governance, disregard for Nigerian lives and more importantly - poor economic policies. I personally think Atiku is birds of the same plumage with Buhari. We need fresher ideas... not recycling same olds. |
I thought - in Constitutional Law - Party disputes are non-Jusiticiable; except when they draw from constitutional rights! |
I just dislike the idea that APC or PDP will rule Nigeria - again! PDP made a mess of Nigeria’s common wealth during their 16 year rule. APC faired better - but they have a tribal and religious Dictator at the helm. I wish everyone here could look above the names and vote in the younger Technocrats. We need to genuinely give ourselves a chance at a good life; Nigeria is a mess. |
noblealuu:Please - do not be deceived by the bandwagon. PDP and APC have both ruled this country for cumulative 19 years - and how far did both get us? Pick your candidate with the interest of your children at heart. I won’t advise PDP even if they have Obama as their candidate. I don’t see Atiku and PDP doing anything differently, let alone Buhari and Osinbajo. |
It’s such a shame. Basic amenities like water - are subject to aids in a country rich with enormous natural/mineral resources. Roads are just being constructed; Rail networks are just being constructed; Power grids are just been constructed; All, in 2018! We really need God’s intervention. APC and PDP has really failed this generation. |
AccessME:I see your concerns... But by your logic - Atiku was VP for how many years? What did he do? Atiku’s antecedents are worse off than Buhari’s. In my experience, you can’t continue to make the same mistakes and expect a different result. One thing is - Atiku is really power hungry - and he will say/do anything to hoodwink Nigerians into thinking he is genuinely interested in the poor masses. Ask yourself, is Atiku still a Northerner? And most importantly - is he still a member of the PDP? What does PDP has a party has to offer? If you haven’t figured it out - Party interest is always over and above Individual interest. Obi wont be a messiah - when the president is calling the shots. If this generation is wise - we will go for the younger guys. Even if we fail - we would have tri d our best at giving US a chance. |
madridguy:What does downfall mean? If you mean hardship and poverty that is prevalent in Nigeria - then that’s wrong. I want to believe the socialites (Wizkid, Davido, Drake etc.) have more sex than the average Nigerian man - and I don’t see any downfall befalling then if they do their business right. If you mean spiritual death - which is applicable to all Sins, then you are right! Pls don’t associate sex with poverty. |
prince088:How so? Those people listed would be paid huge sum of tax-payers money on a committee whose result does not have any monetary or foreseeable practical value to the common masses. There can be no autonomy for legislatures/Judiciaries.... the system is designed to be interwoven. Buhari should organise a committee for restructuring the country - not some bottle-necked approach of syphoning money to some people’s pockets - for political favours during election. |
“While commiserating with LASTMA over the killing of one of its officers, Mr Rotimi Adeyemo, Governor Ambode said the incident was one too many, revealing that a total of 18 officers were lost to such unfortunate situations, and 24 permanently incapacitated in various hospitals in the last one year. “Just last week, we lost one of our LASTMA officers in the person of Rotimi Adeyemo who met his untimely death while controlling traffic. So, I have come here on behalf of government to commiserate with all the LASTMA officers in their office. Now, I want Lagosians to understand something and that is as at today, we have lost eighteen LASTMA officers while performing their lawful duty on behalf of the State, and another twenty-four are permanently incapacitated in various hospitals just this year alone as I speak. “We have not been churning out this data just because we believe Lagosians will understand that these men and women that we put on the line of duty are harmless and they don’t have anything to protect them than just traffic laws which they are enforcing.“ This is really touching. 18 deaths is quite a lot. I think this road wardens should be given some gadgets to protect themselves. I commiserate with the family of the deceased. Weldone to the Governor for compensating and caring about these folks. Not many governors are that thoughtful. |
Twoclans:I think the smell is more of body infection. Everyone has to take antibiotics once in a while, in addition to the things you highlighted Twoclans: EVILFOREST:Both of you are right. No medication should be abused! It should be taken with doctor’s prescriptions. |
Sirheny007:What is not overrated? |
israelmao:If you and I vote for him - that’s 2 more vote l. If you nd I post his campaign pictures on our Facebook wallls... that’s potentially more votes... if your friends and mine, on Facebook, buys the message and reshare... that’s additional more votes. Even if he doesn’t win - we would know we didn’t vote in the disasters. Buhari and Atiku are full of empty promises... and I am not surprised.. they are old and would soon be leaving this. They are only trying to prepare a wealthy ground for their kids and unborn generations. |
SweetBuns:Yh we can. Ebola was worse! |
samuelchimmy:I clearly understand you... and tbh I don’t even care about APC or PDP. My vote is going to neither - they both are responsible for the present mess we are in. Any youth chanting Buhari or Atiku is doing him/her self a lot of disservice. |
Followed this news keenly. The BH attack was successful because they disguised in army apparels and caught the NA unawares. SuggesTs; 1. There are moles/informants supplying the B information and wears in the NA. 2. The desert is too wide and very difficult to defend. It’s obvious they need to fortify their base with defence walls and high watch post like we see in movies. All in coming vehicles must confirm identity from a 1km radius or it’s shot down with a missile. Secondly, we need help from foreign troops. These Boko guys are getting help from ISIS and soon they may start thinking of coming into the south/west/east. If foreign troops can join the NA they can cover more grounds technically and man power wise - that desert is so huge. We just need to tackle this shit headon before it escalates. We must start by voting out Buhari, he is clueless already!! okosodo:But your assertions are logically flawed. 1. You can’t KNOW that there are no moles; unless you work in the NA and you have done internal intelligence to confirm your hypothesis. In principle - Yoruba says “bi Ogun ile o ba Jani, tita o le jani”. It makes it more likely that some people are sabotaging the war by assisting BH. 2. I don’t know much about the span of Iraq desert’s... but I am glad you mentioned alqaeda war. Those guys were chased out following helpss from foreign troops; American and UN soldiers specifically. He Sambisa forest spans about 4 different territories with lots of trees and caves. It’s so vast... we obviously need so foreign help and intelligence. Our machineries and personnel are obsolete! |
samuelchimmy:Does it even matter the date this happended? The point is that the soldiers dying... and no one in the government/Army authorities is talking about or taking respondibility for this. Politics aside - these are human lives. I cant imagine what the family of the deceased are going through - knowing that the sacrifice of their family member is not even acknowledged or compensated by those they died protecting. Who shoud the people blame... Jonathan? |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AH8PfofzrS4 This link may be helpful I watched this video and I was almost crying. Boko Haram literally massacred innocent soldiers. This war isn’t their fault. Shame on anyone who votes or chants Buhari or Atiku. Big shame on all of them! I am sad for this country #somehow I am beginning to dislike this religion. No one should kill anyone in the name of God. God should defend himself- not man defending God. When a man is defending God then it means that God is powerless and incalpable of defending himself: he is not worth worshiping! |
There is no value for human lives n this country. And Buhari is too proud. He is such a proud man and somehow I feel he is either disinterested about people’s opinion or he just doesn’t keep abreast with daily events under his watch. Ordinary killing of a person - the US president must react. 100 foot soldiers! Peoples family! Someone’s father or son! Who swore their lives to defend everyone in this country, including his life! If as a president you don’t see it as an obligation - as a retired Army Major General - it should concern him the most. shame on anyone who chants or votes in this inconsiderate man. |
I am certainly not voting for Buhari or Atiku: they are both part of the cabals responsible for ou present mess. Posterity has taught us that “you cant do same thing over and expect a different result”. I don’t care if my candidate doesn’t emerge - at least I would know I made the right choice and stood right by my future generations. These old guys have failed us; even if many youths are not seeing the injustice they are doing themselves if they keep chanting their names. This country won’t change without an anger in spirit/revolution from the citizens. |
gare:Jigan baba oja |
BamBella:That’s not true too! I have had 2 separate legal experience in Nigeria as well. Nd I met students who grad from Nigerian universities doing same. If you committed enough you will ALWAYS get a place to start off. Problem is youths want to start big - which is itself not wrong. Buh the bible itsef says we shouldn’t despise the days of small beginnings. I don’t agree there are no firm/companies offering these. |
kenodrill:This is the undiluted truth! I worked for free in 4 different law firms here in the UK... two in London, 2 in Chester and my School was in Wales - just to get my first legal experience. Without those - no one will take you serious - unless you have got some connections or Gods grace just helped. Buh at some point - everyone must pay their dues. The failure with Nigerian youths is in thinking anyone owes them a good job, paying a good money, immediately after graduating. Many people spend 5-6 years just getting ahead, making the right connections and working really hard to be the best at their stuffs. After then, you can make any demand and even decide which pay structure or company you want to work for - cos only then will you be offering real value. There are some people who get on lucky to land the high paying jobs - but everyone with different fates. Thing is life isn’t fair to anyone - so get on with it and nip it in the bud! PS; although I still think the OP is right abt the shambles curriculum in Nigerian universities. I still don’t know how Nigerian Law students spend 5 years for a course that takes only 3 years in the Uk. Such a waste of precious time and energy studying irrelevant courses. |
tempest01:It’s a Statutory punishment. It can only be that. You will be surprised some serious crimes in Nigeria only carry 200 Naira fines. The problem is that some of those laws were made when Naira was very valuable - and no one has thought to revisit the punishments! Shame on the legislature. |
