lalasticlala Mynd44 My sister, there is no two reason for this, it’s Greed. Every body wants to live and show off, come back to the village with big cars and impress their village people, to the shame of those who haven’t made it yet. It’s the same reason Nigeria is very backward: more than half of those in power and privileged positions are only interested in filling their pockets and keeping the circle of power close to their caucus. Ever wondered why the same people keep rotating the different offices and portfolios? It’s just that Greed. An average Nigerian is not contented with what he has. big kudos to every Nigerian who is living within the means God have graced him/her with. |

BroadStreetBull: Calling for a revolution is different to calling for a protest.
Sowore called for a revolution, no reasonable government would sit by and watch someone call for a revolution.
As usual those who are condemning these are the 5 percenters and the wailing wailers who are still awaiting the coming of Atiku like the second coming of Jesus Christ.
That's the reason I love the Arabs like in Tunisia, Syria and Algeria. Immediately after the arrest of Sowore thousands of them would have occupied the streets of Abuja already.
But what do we have here in Naija?
Revolutionaries who are cocked locked and ready. Fully strapped, ready to throw stones and shoot bullets from Nairaland and Twitter.
Even to carry ordinary placard sef, they would do it on the internet.
Yeye.
A lot of people here do not even know what a revolution is! This is an half-truth; which as well equals false. Right to protest against blatant disregard for Nigerian lives cannot be curtailed, in whatever form. Venezuela, Egypt etc... didn’t stop their citizens from doing same. Not all revolution is about a change of who is in power. Revolution is about a change of Government- I.e status quo, how things are done, a constitutional system, etc. You literal interpretation is misguided. And clearly, there is something fundamentally wrong with the Nigerian Constitution. The President: APPOINTS 1. The heads of the Judiciary - and all the Justices of the COURT OF APPEAL AND SUPREME COURT 2. All the heads of the Nigerian Military - service Chiefs 3. The head of all the paramilitary- Police, Customs etc. 4. The National Assembly leaders are from his party. 5. All the ministers of the Government 6. All the heads of Government MDAs, including l the Central Bank of Nigeria, And so on. If you think all these will change with just a mere walk in Abuja, you are gravely mistaken. I am not calling for violence, but an awakening of the average Nigerian man to these realities is very important - for the sake of the future generation. The fruits of this revolution may not be reaped now. But I am sure by the next election - the minds of many Nigerians would have been enlightened to the failure of this government. I just hope by then the Northerners won’t still be the clog in this wheel Cos those guys have no Brain to reason - no apologies at all. |

Of course no two persons are the same, even twins. Likewise, I am sure you are familiar with the phrase - “the Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”. Both of them are Northerners. They are both former leaders of this country. They are both Muslims. They both contributed to the mess, presently called Nigeria. And that’s exactly the point here. Only a fool will continue to do the same thing and expect a different result. I don’t see Atiku doing anything differently from what he did in the past - “render scores jobless with his privatisation mantra and fail to pay all of them the Pension and benefits” NEPA, NITEL, Nigerian Airways, just to mention a few. Go and verify my comments about him, then you should tell me why he is any better. |

In fact, which past projects would they hve included in their proposal?? I am sure they wouldn't bid for the project. I think the issue is not whether they contract the job to foreigners. Its the disregard with which they treat the Nigerian labourers. Contracts should spell out salient requirements like these. These things don’t happen in the West |

Its rumoured to last for 10yrs but then media and politicians will tell you they re to start operation by thus yr. Lol cus 80% of the construction is still at foundation(piling) stage.
Now Bleep all that, what i want to talk about is the welfare structure of the general project. 1. Indians are the major controller of the project but then some china companies are handling some parts of it.
2. I will be speaking more on about the indian companies cus they re d ones i work with and then again you wouldnt dare to go work with a chinese company. Chinese companies work mondays to sundays, but indians leave out sundays as a free day. And again chinese do not need your CV, you just have to be ready to work and u re good to go if u can survive it.
The pictures below will show you how Nigerians re being treated vs how indians are being treated. Get this on TWITTER and INSTABLOG 9JA. Your situation will change. Nigerians can’t live and work like slaves in their country. |

famzynet: The way everybody is graduating with first class from UK keeps me wondering if their own first class is different from the one we know in Nigeria. Congrats to her. No it’s not. But there are lots of factors that makes it easier for a smart and serious student. 1. They have a conducive environment for learning. 2. Their courses are hands-on and flexible, you learn at your pace. 3. The lecturers have an open door policy, so you can walk in and discuss your academic issues with them anytime. 4. The grading system is blind-marking, so no one knowingly decide to fail you. 5. Access to 24hrs library - physical/online - I mean the most authoritative texts in your field, not some outdated papers or books. 6. They don’t encourage regurgitation - so if you are someone who is critical and problem-solve, yu will do amazing. Etc! Nigerian degrees are overrated. Funny enough, a Nigerian degree cannot get a ‘graduate job’ in the UK, unless you do a masters- and still, it’s less likely to get a graduate job, even with a masters. Most Nigerians in the Uk do the odd jobs - although those jobs still pays well. |

delugajackson: This is outrageous. Is there any hope for the future of this country? After 5years of sweat, tears and frustration, a best graduating student gets N100 as "reward."
Meanwhile his counterparts on the other side that spend 3 months kissing, wh.oring and engaging in mundane activities on live TV go home with N60m cash prize at the end of the day. This country is doomed. I understand your reserve. But something about many school prize awards is that they are not offered by the School. They are usually funded by legacies and Trusts from people (dead and living) who have left instructions (usually in the Will) stating that every best student from - and - should be given this prize award, taken from their trust every year - some for 100 years. It’s something most rich people in Africa don’t do anymore - Buh folks in the West, I.e Bill&Bellinda Gates Trust, Warren Buffet Eric - all have Trusts like this running into millions of dollars. I wish our present Rich folks could do the same! The government and schools can’t do everything! Again Most of this are paltry because they probably were initiated years even before you and I was born. As well, this couldn’t have been the only awards offered by that Dept. He might have had up to 6 awards. PS: I also received #250 for all my efforts in the same institution, so I can actually relate with this. But I had colleagues who had more than 100k prize awards too. Depends on the amount of prizes offered in the department!

Pharoh: Giving local government direct allocation is not being done well like other global best practices as you mentioned. I believe those local authorities in other countries draw budget yearly and plan how to spend these allocations or tax revenue. They have services to offer and alot to manage. To be honest local authorities do alot abroad and it's hard work. I have seen the duties giving to local authroities in our constitution and it's quite okay. My problem is with them not having a yearly budget and plan like the federal and state governments. They should also be open with their books and give yearly account of money spent. You made some sense. But I don’t think the FGN would allocate funds with having a budget plan from the LGs. It’s not so much about the direct funding - but the autonomy of the LGs is quite important for grassroots development. I believe we will have the checks and balances come in naturally. |

But tbh that Act has lots of shortcomings- and reform is way overdue. The PPA does not encourage ANY SUSTAINABILITY issue, neither does it compel buying Environmentally friendly goods/services. With all these floods and climate change, the PPA is one of the most effective means to tackle the excess carbon monoxide in Nigeria’s air. The PPA does not encourage purchase of Local Contents. One would think that a procurement act will 1. Compel government agencies to buy local 2. Compel government agencies to patronise local service/goods providers. But No... many government agencies just do what they like with Bidding processes; often collecting bribes from contractors before awarding the contracts - especially the Oil Market. If you have some time just go and read the Malabu Oil deal and the Egbin Power contract saga. The cases have been in courts for years - and you ask yourself how Nigeria would not be backward- when all our resources are lost to corruption. The most painful part is that - they will embezzle and inflate contract prices - and will still end up doing shitty jobs. Before 4 months the roads starts having potholes - become flooded with water; so that they can award another contract for repairs soon. I wonder why our politicians are so greedy. |

First, there is no such thing as Vote of No confidence in Nigeria. You only have impeachment. Vote of no confidence applies in parliamentary systems like the UK. Secondly - members of the legislature are immune from proceedings with regards to what they do in the Legislative house. The hypocrisy of these fellas running up and down to talk for the old man is not only shameful but also disgraceful. These same peeps never held their tongue when lashing out at elder Jonathan (ex President).
What the young man did was courageous and very polite. The strength of a man is measured in his ability to withstand equals and superiors.
Name one thing that Wole contributed to this country aside personal honours. Don't honour those who never honoured your fathers.
Richdad How naive. Even if you do not appreciate this man’s contribution to literature in Africa, and the world... you sure should understand what it means to be a Nobel Laureate. That’s not a mean feat - and to think that he is the only Nigerian to have ever achieved that. That should tell you that his contribution to literature is recognised globally. That is not a personal achievement. Personal achievements are winning best graduating students etc. When you win awards like global peace awards etc.... your contribution to humanity generally is recognised. You should understand the difference! I read your comments often - never expected this from you. |
