Fineman2: My name is Dora.
I am 35 years old and everybody keeps reminding me that age is no longer on my side.
My fiance and I have been dating for more than one year and we are getting married soon.
My fiance is 40 years old and he has never been married.
The relationship was really good when we started but now that our wedding is in a few weeks time, he has shown how controlling he can be.
From the choice of the wedding dress, to the bridesmaids selection, to the colour of the day, he wants to be in charge.
He also wants his mum to buy the cloth for our engagement as well as buy our wedding ring.
He does whatever his family says without seeking my opinion and it almost seems as if I am not the one getting married.
I told my parents about how this makes me feel and they just asked me to endure because I am getting older but I really fear for what is going to happen after the wedding.
Are these not red flags I should run from?
I am confused, please advise me. Marriage is a spiritual institution established by God. Did God tell you he is the one for you? I will advise you take some days out for a quiet retreat with fasting and prayers to seek God's face if you believe in God. Wedding is a day event, marriage is for life. Your observations are red+ flags ma. |

Successonpoint: I hope my story will motivate someone to take charge of their life. I lost my job last year July, and so a friend of mine introduce me to a poultry farm where I am earning 22k per month.
A man with wife and two kids o, my wife was not happy with the job even though she has been supportive in her own little way. And then, she suggested that I should learn handwork, and so I decided to learn welder.
On getting to the man, he told me I will spend 2 years o, I will pay 70k to learn from him. Me way I no get even 20k, I begged him to collect 50k and he agreed.
Then he asked me to make part payment of 30k. I went home and told my wife, and then she gave me 20k to give to the man. I gave the man 20k and he collected it, to my greatest surprise within 2 months I started doing the welding job perfectly.
On my own, I have paid up the remaining 30k with small small repairs job he allowed me to be doing for people. And by God's grace, I have started saving up for my tools.
I really thank my wife for the advice and the welder too. The man has been a tremendous blessing to me in many way. He even told me yesterday that with the look of things I may be free from him in 2 months time except I decided to still remain with him for a while.
Please take charge of your life and stop depending on people for survival. I am inspired OP. I see God opening doors of favour for you. Cherish your wife. She is a virtuous woman. |

CuriousMind2022: You're wrong sir. My wife was very much into me before our wedding. She literally made me marry her, because at some point I began to develop cold feet. She did everything to please me, showed me love and care, and pretended to be a good girl. I would not force, cajole or entice a woman into marrying me. This is why I am asking myself if I should continue in this marriage if truly she doesn't care about me anymore. I strongly believe marriage should be between two people who are genuinely interested in being together and if it is obvious she is tired of us being together, I would be the first to excuse myself from the marriage. I just don't want to make a hasty decision, so I will still wait and be sure I am not overthinking things. OP, take out time, sit her down and hold a sincere conversation with her. Open up on all your expectations that are not being met. Also, tell her to open up on her own expectations you seem not to be meeting. When issues come to the open, then solutions can come. On the other hand, if you are more mature and exposed than her which I sense, you may need to be her teacher, coach, father, and husband that's if she is ready to learn. Don't rule out her background, you see, I do tell people that marriage is a spiritual institution and not man-made. God instituted it. If there are cases of faulty foundational issues which you cannot rule out, TAKE THE MATTER TO GOD...TO TOUCH HER HEART. MARRIAGE is a lifetime walk and fellowship. Have you forgotten the vows so quick. Talk it out with her. She is already making the mistakes most women made by trying to replace you with the child... forgetting that the child will leave to make his/her own family then the circle comes back to just the two of you again. More importantly, take it all to the Lord in prayers. God bless your home. |

Family › Re: I Had Been Restless Having A Chat With My Elder Brother by writeprof(m): 12:19pm On May 13, 2023 |
DownTime44: Hi guys
Please i put up this post basically because of my elder brother. I sincerely want to know if i was wrong talking to him, or I could have just let him be. I wasn't myself ever since i talked to him, and i was somewhat having guilty conscience since then.
I have an elder brother, he's 38 years old and also the first son. I am the fourth child in the family of five. The second child is a female and she's married. We lost our third child, that's my immediate elder brother some years back, while i have a younger brother. I came from a humble background. Lost my dad while i was in JS 3, even before his death we had been hustling on a daily basis for survival, and we live happily as one big family. My mother, siblings and i do hawk daily before we could eat. All thanks to public school in Lagos, my family wouldn't have had the opportunity to basic education. We hawk daily after school, weekdays and weekend. My family was bred and brought up in Ajegunle.
Few years after the demise of my father, we struggled to pay house rent. We had to leave Ajegunle to a local and developing area. I didn't allow my family conditions deter or weigh me down. Never! I believe I'd make it in life legitimately without venturing into crime, fraud, theft etc. After my secondary school, i was into all sorts of labour work. I worked in factory, building site, cleared bushes, laundry man , just to save up and further my education. I worked for 6 years after my secondary school, bought a bike from the little savings i had and proceed to school through jamb. I gave the bike to someone who often deliver #6,000 weekly for the upkeep of my family. I was in year 2 when i let go of the bike, it was on a higher purchase and the agreement we have had elapsed. I hustled my way through school and graduated. I'm done with service last year but couldn't land a job, probably due to my age. I'd be 29 this year and most graduate trainee often request for age below 28. Although, i had a 2.1. I'm only managing in a pure water factory to make ends meet, keep soul and body together and support my family
I sat my elder brother down and talked to him. He has been hustling like every other person in the family but i don't understand what's happening. He didn't futher his education nor learn a handwork. He's 38 but still live under his parents roof. He has been doing conductor work for many years. The family had talked to him several times to look for something else. It's fine you are hustling as a man for survival but doing conductor for many years without thinking of what else to do is wrong. A family friend of ours who later got to know what he does for a living had advice him also.
The bus he was following, the driver had misunderstanding with the owner and he collected his bus back. My elder brother had been idle for months, doing nothing. He claimed he has gone virtually everywhere in search of bus he could be working with but couldn't get any. This is a family that we all had to bring something no matter how little to survive. I was talking to him as a younger brother. I asked him why didn't he heed to people's advice when they were advising him then to stop the conductor work and look for something to learn, if perhaps he doesn't want to further his education? He doesn't believe in Nigeria education, because he could count graduates without job or those with petty job. My elder brother wear almost rag as clothes. I had to give him some of my little wears I'm managing. He has just one slippers. We don't wear same size of shoe or sandals, we could have been sharing that also. He sold his phone to feed sometime ago and had been without phone. I was initially saving to get my mum a small phone but i had to give him the phone instead.
He was crying when i was talking to him. I understand the situation of things in the country, which i myself is going through. I was just trying to know what other things he could come up with. I am not happy seeing him sitting idle doing nothing. The fact that he's the first son and found himself in this condition at that age breaks my heart daily. My mum had been so worried about his condition. I had to convince her that things will be better. I don't want her to develop high Blood Pressure that could lead to her untimely death.
Please guys was i wrong talking to my elder brother? You're not wrong in talking bro... A lot of things would definitely be going on in his mind... You should meet with him again, apologise even if you didn't do anything wrong, let him know it's out of love. Also, proffer a possible solution this time. Someone gave an advice about getting a vehicle or bus for him, however, If a car can't be gotten yet, let him start with Okada. It's better than doing nothing. Handiwork is important, if he has an Okada, he can schedule his time to learn one or two skills within a year. Help him to also have a vision of having his own vehicle as this will help to make him focused doing the Okada business and seeing it as a means to an end. Also, of importance, you guys should draw closer to God in an intimate relationship... Do you or your brother have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ? He is the Original Firstborn who has shed His blood to return every firstborn back to their place of glory and honour. First sons have a load of spiritual baggages to deal with in this African culture especially if their parents or grandparents never feared God. God bless you 🙏 |

Stevenbright: You are not wrong!
As a bus conductor, if he can drive, you guys should help get a car or bus that he can be driving no matter the agreement. And you will be surprised at the level of change in his life in few months from now.
If he can't drive, let him go and learn how to drive instead of the bus conductor thing and then you guys will work out my first advice above once he is through learning.
There is money in transportation business and that can change his life for good even though he appears to be unambitious. Good advice here. It shall be well. |

Good father.
What is the joy of looking at your wedding photograph and one begins to wonder if it's another woman that's in the house.
This happened to me once on a visit to greet a couple on the birth of their first child. Their wedding picture was conspicuously located in the sitting room, by the time the woman who appeared came out, I had a lot of difficulty reconciling the pretty dark lady greeting me with the ugly-looking fair personality I was seeing in the wedding photograph. There was no resemblance whatsoever.
I wonder if women look at their wedding photographs after the wedding day... |

flexyrule: Nigerians are very wicked people. I repeat, Nigerians are very wicked people.
This was how loan sharks extorted a friend's cousin, till he committed suicide, after paying them over 400% of what he borrowed in less than one month.
This is exactly how they sounded on the extract of the chat the police obtained from his phone.
How can you conveniently tell someone to go and commit suicide?
In 2021, I borrowed one contractor 30 million to complete a project he was executing for the federal government.
Till date, the man is yet to finish paying up. He has executed contracts worth over 1 billion for the FG since I gave him that money, but baba has refused to pay me back my money. Last year alone, he received over 500m as payments for contracts he executed for the government.
Funny part is that, I am not the only one he is owing. He would keep face as if he wants to die, when he wants to borrow from you, once money hits his account, he turn to tiger. This is someone that rolls with the presidency ooooo. He has senators, top government officials as friends.
He blocked me, refused me entry into his office. Reported the case to the police, he went and bribed them, anywhere I take the case to, this man would rather churn out 5 to 10m to settle the authorities than pay me back my money.
I have lost over 2m while trying to recover this money. Everybody that hears my story, will just want to also eat his own part of the cake. 50k, 100k, 200k etc lawyers, so called human rights, police, etc.
When I say Nigerians are wicked, I know exactly what I'm saying.
Nigerians are wicked!
Forget. Sorry about your ordeals. However, NOT ALL NIGERIANS ARE WICKED AND EVIL. Wickedness and evil are the natural inclinations of ALL HUMANS... I pray God will use Nigerians to help you recover your money. |

I believe that if we can get the proper leadership in place in Nigeria, we'll have more of our young people working in factories that manufacture these Tricycles and other light vehicles. This will be a departure from what our leaders currently do, which is to buy tricycles for energetic young people (who should be working in factories) to use as Keke Napep and Okada.
What we need is leadership that can get us back to manufacturing and production, away from consuming other people's manufactured goods and help stop our youths from becoming automatic members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers. |
Family › Re: Parenting In The Digital Age by writeprof(m): 7:39pm On Apr 24, 2023 |
lavylilly: The dangers for impressionable young children and teens go far beyond the regular dupings, kidnapping, etc. As a parent, if you do not keep up, your child can slowly be ‘raised’ by other people and their beliefs.
Parents have to change their strategies and move with the times because the digital age is here to stay and at one point in your child’s life, that world will be opened up to them.
Tips on Raising Kids in the Digital Age
The first thing is to know the group that is most at risk. Kids between the ages of 6 and 23 who fall into a generation now getting labeled Post-Millennial or Gen Z or iGen are the most susceptible. Why? The generation before them, labeled the Millennials, though controversial, still retain a bit of the Nigerian culture and practices. They can still fall prey to the wiles of the Internet, but they are not the ones greatly at risk.
1. Delay social media as long as possible
Social media for all its many positive uses is also a cesspool of the greatest negative influences your Gen-Zer will be exposed to. Delay your child’s ‘initiation’ to it. This gives you more time to train your child to be his or her own individual before outside influences become a factor. Social media, unwisely abused, will cost them something precious that they can’t get back.
2. Delay smartphones as long as possible
Once you introduce your child to an Internet-connected smartphone, with texting and apps like Instagram and Snapchat, parental controls would be virtually futile. Most companies/Apps usually offer some ways of protection on these gadgets/apps for your children but the negative ads, people you don’t want your child to see still manage to pop up. The children themselves have grown smarter and find ways to circumvent your parental controls. Delaying the inevitable gives you more time to groom said child on these dangers. It gives them time to see that no matter how attractive these options may seem, they are still a slippery slope into a bad place that they may never be able to come out of once in.
3. Take control of the wifi inside the home
It’s common for households where WiFi can be afforded to have an open WiFi that all the kids can use from any where in the house. Parents can either limit it to certain rooms in the house like the library, parlor etc or withhold the password and only give out when needed for homework. You can control the time it is used outside doing homework as well.
4. As a blanket rule, for all ages and all devices: Keep screens out of bedrooms.
If you have this rule in your house, it is easy for you to protect your 13 year old boy who is going through puberty from having unlimited time with his device in the privacy of his room where he can slowly get addicted to pornography. This rule also benefits the adults as well. Less screen time in the bedroom ensures your household is getting enough rest when they go in to sleep.
5. Phone Free Zones
You have to have some phone free zones which even you the parent keeps to. Example: The dinning table can be declared as such. No looking at your phone while eating. This helps your child not become so addicted to his or her phone. Keeping to it as the parent, shows your child you are also willing to not allow the phone become an extension of yourself.
6. Watch how each child responds to the digital age.
Every child is different. When you introduce social media, gadgets, watch each child to see how they handle it. Does their phone automatically become a third hand? Are they always secluded with their device? Do they all of a sudden know more about the gadgets than you? Are they lashing out more now? Are they saying and doing things that leave you surprised because you don’t know where they picked that from?
All these questions will help you know which child needs some devices withheld, which one needs more looking into and a whole lot.
7. Learn ALL about the Digital Age
The only way parents can win over a technology that is growing by leaps and bounds is to grow as well. Learn all about it as new updates are made. If you don’t understand Instagram, you won’t understand the pressure it can put on impressionable kids and even adults. If you have no clue what Twitter is, you won’t be able to fathom the social media bullying that goes on there that can cause a 16 year old girl to commit suicide
A quote from Chinua Achebe says “Eneke the bird says that since men have learned to shoot without missing, he has learned to fly without perching.” As a parent in the digital age, you HAVE to learn to grow as the movement is growing. Thank you for this piece. |

Christianity Etc › Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by writeprof(m): 3:31pm On Apr 23, 2023 |
In all of these comments, many people seem to forget that the HOLY SPIRIT is not an INANIMATE entity but the third person of the GODHEAD and the ONE in charge of this earthly dispensation of man's relationship with GOD through JESUS CHRIST.
ACTS 1:8 reveals that without the HOLY SPIRIT dwelling in a believer's life, the Christian journey of POWER, TRUST, OBEDIENCE cannot be attained.
Speaking in tongues is the language of the Holy Spirit which every believer should desire to attain to because lack of it is a reflection of some levels of limitations to one's walk with God.
Intimacy with the Holy Spirit cannot be achieved without the ability to communicate with Him in His language. It's not every thing and every time the Holy Spirit would communicate to a believer via physical senses.
The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit helps us to pray when we do not know what to pray for... that is as you pray in tongues. He may gradually lead you to the point of telling you the precise thing to pray about by dropping it to your heart or ears.
The HOLY SPIRIT is the POWER that CHRISTIANITY has right from the inception of the CHURCH in the Book of Acts till TODAY.
WITHOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT in a believer's life, such believer remains BLIND, POWERLESS, WEAK, FEARFUL and a target of the devil. |
