Christistruth03:
The Ruler of Ilorin when the British arrived was a Yoruba man called Balogun Alanamu
it was Balogun Alanamu and his followers that the British fought for the Control of Ilorin

The British then reinstaled an Emir in Ilorin after the defeat of balogun Yoruba Inakoju alanamu due to Political Pressure from Northern Emirs .

The Emir of Ilorin had been defeated and deposed by the Ilorin Yoruba Chiefs before the British arrived.

The British left at Independence after an agreement was made to have a referendum over Kwara State.

The Post independence Government of Balewa and Azikiwe frustrated that referendum by not carrying out the Kwara referendum which should have happened at the same time as the Midwest referendum in order to cripple Awolowo and his Party Politically after Awolowo had been jailed in 1962

Balewa and Azikiwe also didn't Carry out the other referendums agreed with the British before independence meant for the Eastern and Northern Minority Ethnic groups.

Ilorin still has an Emir because of Colonial and Tribal Politics

Sardauna Ahmadu Bello in his Biography described Ilorin as a 200 year old " Staggering Headache" for the Sokoto Caliphate to the extent that the Sultan of Sokoto had to warn the Emir of Gwandu to hands off anything to do with Ilorin and keep a very low Profile because of the Constant War Yorubas fought over it.
Very true!

The British colonists were really daft in handling the issue of Ilorin only for them to later call for a referendum after realizing their very stupid mistake. This is why Sir. Allan Burns (The Acting Governor-General of Nigeria) clearly stated in his iconic book "The History of Nigeria" that Ilorin is a Yoruba town and was one of the 10 largest towns in Nigeria as of the 1920s when he published his book. 9 of the 10 largest towns were Yoruba towns with Kano being the only town in the top 10 largest towns.

The British colonists have left Nigeria since 1960, so this aberration in Ilorin has be be sorted out with the knowledge of the UN and then a strong advocacy from all Yoruba folks worldwide to have a full-blooded Yoruba leadership in Ilorin. Period.

Travel › Re: Don't Come To The UK If You Are Guilty Of These 10 Things by XAUBulls:
uche87:
Life in the United Kingdom is far different from what most Nigerian men are used to in their home countries. The points here might appear so simple but they count in the preparedness of a man in bracing up for the challenging task ahead. They constitute the essential ingredients that put the final touches to the taste of a good soup.
Come with me and let's dive into these points:

(1) No creditworthiness:
If you are not creditworthy, you might struggle in the UK, because the credit score is taken seriously here. You will struggle to secure loans and mortgages. Even offline, your friends and colleagues might be hesitant to assist you financially during difficult times.

(2) Cheating:
In Nigeria, cheating married men are like celebrities, especially when they have financial muscle. Even when their wives know, they endure the problem. In the UK, cheating on your wife might render you homeless and even pave a visa route for her and the children through your downfall. If you are a serial cheat, it might be better for you to remain in Nigeria where you are a king without a crown.

(3) Pride:
Some Nigerians are excessively proud. They never do household chores and they brag about it. It is too expensive to secure domestic workers here and the terms of engagement are too strict. You might have to keep your hands dirty at home to keep your marriage going. Some jobs also come with insults and talking instructions from underage or far younger colleagues. If you can't handle it, you might be forced to sleep rough and go hungry due to being broke.

(4) Obsession with white-collar jobs:
In the UK, it is easier for you to easily get blue-collar jobs and make good money from there as an immigrant pending when you are fully integrated into the system. You might be forced to come down from your high horse to work in factories, restaurants, warehouses, care homes, and hospitals; playing menial roles. If all you know is wearing suits and ties in cozy office environments and signing documents, the UK might not be for you.

(5) Laziness:
Making money in the UK is quite tough. If the money sent to Nigeria could talk, some people will not touch it. The majority of immigrants do transitional jobs of an average of 12hrs per day and 6 days a week to make ends meet. The cost of living is too high at this point. A lazy man who is used to enjoying free cash from petty crimes in Nigeria will certainly not fit in here.

(6) Can't manage loneliness:
This affects single people more. Over here, people would only check up on you if they need you. Everything is highly transactional! This gets to everyone at some point. You have to manage it well before you get in bed with the nearest 'mad' person.

(7) Tolerance/Endurance:
Immigrants who work in health and social care must possess this attribute. The money might be good but there is a reason why the labour turnover in this sector is very high and visa sponsorships are given for people to remain there. This is because of the unconventional nature of the jobs. If you can't tolerate or endure the smoke, you might end up begging the Tinubu victims in Nigeria for money right from the UK.

(cool Hate cooking:
If you don't have cooking skills in the UK, you will suffer oh! You will end up eating foreign foods that you might find tasteless. You will spend a lot on patronizing Nigerian food vendors who sometimes cook burnt offerings for the gods. You will eat junk food till you become pregnant without a forthcoming baby after 9 months.

(9) Lacking good communication skills:
Being able to communicate in good and simple English is very essential in the UK. It is very imperative when attending a job interview. It is the easiest way to sell yourself even when the certificate might be lacking. It shows your level of intelligence and how adaptable you can be. If you are poor in this area, your progress might be hampered in the UK.

(10) Cold:
If you are the type that screams 'weather for two' anytime rain falls in Nigeria, the UK might not be for you. If you can become sexually restless under a weather condition of 25 degrees Celsius in Nigeria, imagine what you would do when it falls to 0 in the UK. And this isn't a place to be randy. It is very expensive and dangerous to do so. Read the stories of the former Manchester City defender, Benjamin Mendy or Adam Johnson and learn.

Feel free to debate the few points I have made so that we can all learn.

Osahon George Osayimwen writes from the United Kingdom.
This is largely true.

Politics › Re: SS Man Explain What They Faced, During Bìafran War by XAUBulls: 2:53pm On Jul 30, 2023
Tranquill:
They committed a lot of atrocities then, especially among civilians that were not armed and didn't expect that they would get such. These are the stories that emboldens them to think that they could still do the same thing now unchallenged, the reason they believe they can force others into their Biafra in the name of 'our brothers' whether the people like it or not. But that was in 1967 when g.uns were a big deal, many people were illitrates and ignorant, and also, only them were well armed apart from the federal troops. This is 2023. Every community now has Armory and sharp shooters.

Immediately Biafra was declared, Igbo people started invading peoples farmland in Ikwerre to lay ownership while declaring these lands as 'biafraland' and these were mainly Igbos that had hitherto lived peacefully as tenants amongst the indigenes, doing menial jobs for them , who didn't know they had snakes living with them.

Igbo people out of frustration and desperation brutalized several Iwhuruoha (Ikwerre) people who were not armed. Among these people so treated were one Nna Igwe from Elioparanwo who was buried alive on the suspicion that he was a saboteur. His first son Iche Igwe is still alive.

Also, the first Ikwerre (Iwhuruoha) journalist, a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, who wrote for Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe’s West African Pilot Newspaper, Honukwuru Obasiolu was at Aluu tortured by Biafran soldiers and later buried alive on suspicion too that he was a Saboteur. Honokwuru Obasiolu hailed from Rumuigbo and had gone to Aluu to see the condition of his pregnant wife who had gone to the parents at Aluu to take cover in the midst of sporadic shootings during the escalation of the war in 1967. When the wife came back from the farm to hear what has befallen the husband, she collapsed and dies with the pregnancy. His only daughter, Dr (Mrs) Ige is still alive.

It can never happen again!
Indeed. The Ikwerre-born icon, Elechi Amadi wrote in Sunset Biafra about these 1967-1970 Nigerian Civil War events too detailing out rebel Ibo attrocities on his people and other ethnic minorities in the defunct Old Eastern Region.

When PH was liberated in 1967 by Nigerian Federal troops of the 3rd Marine Commando led by the iconic Col. Benjamin Adekunle, Col. Alabi Isama, Isaac Adaka Boro, and others, Elechi Amadi (who locked up in prison for refusing to fight of behalf of the crazy rebels and had earlier served in the Nigerian Army) joined the 3rd Marine Commando to push the rebel invaders out of PH and environs.

Those rebels also killed a lot of innocent and prominent indigenes of Calabar and more when the Federal troops moved in to successfully liberate Calabar and Bonny Island in 1968.

As the rebels retreated from Calabar under heavy gunfire, they proceeded to bring out from detention over 100 prominent Efiks, Ibibios, etc, and summarily executed them simply because they had refused to join the Ibos to secede from Nigeria! These guys already had their own states which were newly created on May 27, 1967 and saw no need to join the Ibos in a so-called secession. These led to the Civil War to successfully liberate the occupied non-Ibo areas from the Ibo rebel invaders by the Federal troops.

In a pattern of behavior that can only be described as self-destructive, the "liberation" force went molesting, raping, kidnapping, torturing, detaining and even killing local figures whose support they badly needed (14, 17). For example, Mr. J. O Adeola (Commissioner of Police), Mr. Olu Akpata (Permanent Secretary), Mr. Sam Umweni (of Radio Nigeria, Benin) and Mr. J Imoukhuede (Head of the civil service), were abducted from Benin and taken back to Biafra. They remained in prison (without trial) until the end of the war (17). In his memoirs, Ademoyega acknowledges: "The 18th battalion stationed in that port (Warri) was a ragged, ill-equipped and ill-controlled unit. Reports of their lawlessness in town had been scandalous." Such actions (among others) did not endear them to the people they came to liberate from "the north". Ademoyega summarized it thus: "Biafran entry into the Midwest was seen by the people, especially the non-Ibos of the State, as an act of foreign aggression." (9)

The decision to occupy and then terrorize a proud and ancient cultural region should not have been made so lightly (18).

Morocco defender Nouhaila Benzina has made history by becoming the first player to wear a hijab at a World Cup.

The 25-year-old wore the Islamic headscarf as she made her first appearance at the tournament in her side's 1-0 win over South Korea.

The wearing of head coverings for religious reasons was authorised by Fifa in 2014.

Morocco are one of eight teams making their debut at this summer's Women's World Cup.

Benzina, who plays her club football in Morocco, is the first player to wear a hijab at a senior women's international tournament.

She was an unused substitute during her country's opening game against Germany, which they lost 6-0.

The Resistance

According to an Army manual, "a resistance movement is the organized element of a disaffected population, which resists a government or occupying power with means varying from passive to violently active. Resistance movements begin to form when dissatisfaction occurs among strongly motivated individuals who cannot further their cause by peaceful and legal means".

Not much has been written about the popular resistance. In their memoirs, Ademoyega and Ejoor make passing reference to it. Much of what we know comes from the written account of Ogbemudia corroborated by oral testimony. For some reason, Alexander Madiebo saw things differently from his position as Commander of the Biafran Army in Enugu, even claiming in his narrative that "Benin was taken early that morning without a single loss of life, amidst frantic jubilation by the entire local population." . One can only wonder about which population he was referring, and the veracity of intelligence reports reaching the East.

Many resistance groups may have operated in the Midwest, but one in particular was organized and very effective. This group was the one formed by Chief Michael A. Ojomo in Benin on August 18th. According to Ogbemudia, "….In a short time, recruitment and training started, and volunteers came in hundreds. Soon afterwards, an effective system of hit and runs was in operation…..By 26th of August, we had assembled a reliable force of about 600 men and 180 women……"

Supportive citizens, who were too old for action, donated their single and double-barrel cartridge guns. Recruits performed armed and armless combat, isolating and capturing Biafran sentries. Night raiders spat salt into the eyes of soldiers, while attractive girls distracted them with sex, obtained intelligence, and even stole their weapons. In a manner reminiscent of the Vietcong in Vietnam, corpses of freedom fighters were recovered at great peril for burial, frustrating the Biafran units who had just engaged them in firefights. In the Siluko area, 50 Biafran soldiers (about half of a company) were drowned by a group of "Ijaw, Urhobo and Itsekiri swimmers" who lost 16 men in the fight

At the behest of the resistance, female cooks put all kinds of things in the meals of the Biafran soldiers. Supported by threatening letters written to harass the Biafran command, rumors spread about the risk of poisoning by locals. It is speculated that even the Administrator, Major Okonkwo, stayed away from food cooked by his official cooks, particularly if they were non-Ibo.

But all did not go well indefinitely. Undercover agents were infiltrated into the group and counter-insurgency raids on villages became more frequent and ruthless. Nine of the girls were killed, some in suspicious circumstances. Faced with threats of severe reprisals, extreme caution among the local population became the watchword.

However, by this time, they were encouraged by news of the progress of the federal army. After reorienting the movement to undertake psychological and deception missions in support of the theater commander, Major Ogbemudia himself eventually disengaged from guerrilla warfare activities to return to Army HQ in Lagos. From there, he joined the hastily organized Second Infantry Division of the Nigerian Army making its way to Benin City .

According to Ejoor, similar activities took place in the Delta. Small groups of Biafran soldiers looking for local Hausa communities in the riverine areas, were drowned by local Urhobo swimmers in the treacherous currents of the Ethiope River.

[Oral folk tales claim that even native doctors joined the resistance, using spells and 'juju' to cause unusual ailments among Biafran troops such as massive testicles, clearly an impediment to mobility.

'Fola Arthur-Worrey, a top legal luminary is the first man with paternal roots in the Sapele area (Urhobo) of Delta State to become a Commissioner for Lands in the Lagos State government under former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His mother (Olufunke Arthur-Worrey passed on at 95 years in 2022. She got married in London to her husband who was a close friend of her brother) was a Yoruba and an indigene of Lagos Island.

Congrats to Sam Egube on his renomination as a Commissioner in the Lagos State government cabinet of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

Lots of Africans are being deported from Germany on a monthly basis, I even watched a YouTube video where some deportees broke the window of the bus transporting them to the airport for deportation. The fact is that it's very difficult to live in Germany without being legit. I wish the family all the best of luck
True that.

Davido should publicly apologize. Stop triggering people and stepping out of boundaries and trying to control how they react, they were on their own and you stupidly and intentionally triggered them. Bitter truth.
Well said.
