Joagbaje: We have the right of attorney to function in His stead, the same way a delegated member of a presidents cabinet can represent him at a state function. Representing a president does not take away the responsibilities of the president. The delegates ensure they don’t misrepresent the president as he takes ultimate responsibility for the outcome of the function. |
I think to suggest that any part of the bible is now irrelevant because of Jesus is very incorrect. He even confirmed in Matthew 5:17 that He has come to fulfill the law and not to abolish it. We also know from John 1:1-12 that "In the beginning was the Word(Jesus)" so and "For ever oh Lord thy Word is settled" Psalm 119:89 so cherry picking one aspect of the bible and claiming that other aspect is no longer relevant can't be right
So, is burnt offering still relevant Joagbaje: Several pastors have approach tithing in different wrong way. Some also have said if you dont tithe God will put a curse on you.etc. I gree with you Jo but reading further . . . . . . Joagbaje: You may not know what you're missing. Joagbaje: tithing preceeded the law and also outlive the law. The levitical priesthood is over. The church has become the ground of truth. And God expects us to fulfill obligations in the church as men did under the OT. What obligations? if you say tithing preceeds the law, then provide here evidence that this tithing obligation to the church also preceeds the law. You dont need the law to justify your tithing practice |

Azibalua: Luke 22:35-51 35 Then Jesus asked them,"When I sent you out to preach the Good News and you were without money, duffle bag, or extra clothing, how did you get along?""Fine,"they replied. 36"But now,"he said,"take a duffle bag if you have one and your money. And if you don't have a sword, better sell your clothes and buy one! 37 For the time has come for this prophecy about me to come true:` He will be condemned as a criminal!'Yes, everything written about me by the prophets will come true."
Anticipating evil or so you would say, at this time he asked them to procure swords
38"Master,"they replied,"we have two swords among us.""Enough!"he said. 39 Then, accompanied by the disciples, he left the upstairs room and went as usual to the Mount of Olives. 40 There he told them,"Pray God that you will not be overcome by temptation." 41- He walked away, perhaps a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed this prayer:"Father, if you are willing, please take away this cup of horror from me. But I want your will, not mine."43 Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him, 44 for he was in such agony of spirit that he broke into a sweat of blood, with great drops falling to the ground as he prayed more and more earnestly. 45 At last he stood up again and returned to the disciples-- only to find them asleep, exhausted from grief. 46"Asleep!"he said."Get up! Pray God that you will not fall when you are tempted.
47 But even as he said this, a mob approached, led by Judas, one of his twelve disciples. Judas walked over to Jesus and kissed him on the cheek in friendly greeting. 48 But Jesus said,"Judas, how can you do this-- betray the Messiah with a kiss?" 49 When the other disciples saw what was about to happen, they exclaimed,"Master, shall we fight? We brought along the swords!"
Interesting they could remind him of the real function of the sword he asked them to buy Why do you think he ask them to buy swords, was it to make them function in their culture more? Definitely not
50 And one of them slashed at the high priest's servant and cut off his right ear. 51 But Jesus said,"Don't resist anymore."And he touched the place where the man's ear had been and restored it.
At this point it was time to be taken and he had been strengthened and so there was no point resisting the arrest, but at the time he knew it was not yet his time to be taken, he figured out a way of escape. More proof that cec have zombies for congregation. No evidence to show you made any serious attempt to process the bible verses you quoting here. Maybe it because you believe Jo is always right. |

TCD: Sorry, just a quick question. What do U̶̲̥̅̊ mean by Jesus was "Rich" then became poor. What where D̶̲̥̅̊ riches spoken of therein? Are you saying that in heaven there exists aplenty dollars, pounds, yen? Gold, silver? Is it that they possess many designer clothes/accesories in heaven? Do they even wear clothes in heaven? Or maybe there is soooo much food hence D̶̲̥̅̊ riches but, do they eat in heaven?
Even if such where present in heaven, of what monetary/currency value is it right there in heaven for it to be qualified as "riches"?
Bear in mind that even if you give a truck load Of Gold to a bush man in whose society gold is ηọ̥t recognised as something of value or currency, you have effectively in his mind given him worthless junk.
So please, can you clarify D̶̲̥̅̊ riches you spoke of Jesus having above. Thanks newmi, where are you |

If you really want a future for Nigeria, you should be looking the way of GEJ or Ribadu. Buhari had his chance to stand behind Ribadu to form a formidable opposition but he failed to do so. It is time to move on. My view: I dont think a Ribadu presidency is sellable in the North. Ribadu can only win in the southwest (being ACN). I doubt he will be able to win Lagos free & fair. So come next week people will also vote for their choice, those that like rogues will vote for rogues and those that like honest people will vote for honest people. Very true. PDP will be getting more votes this saturday especially in Lagos. Even CPC will get more votes in Lagos. The voting pattern in the north will change as well. Snowwy: P.S If those that are hailing you for your right up are focusing on what you highlighted as 1%, it shows how 'brilliant' they really are. If giving the portion due to the Levites and Priests now translates to 1% then you guys are sure showing poor understanding indeed. Those that serve at the altar are both the priests and the levites. Chei! understanding sha A priest is first a Levite before he is considered for the priestly position. But priests don't receive 10% of the peoples tithe, they receive 1%. That's what they are entitled to It is the (non-priest) Levite that receives 10% of the peoples tithe. There is nothing wrong with debosky's post jare The levitical tithe does not even get to the altar, so i don't know what you are talking about. You need to do more reading to discover what was offered on the altar. |

It was for their service and also so that they could focus fully on their calling. This what you mean by 'spiritual intent' your interpretation paints a picture of a well paid job with enough perks to enable you focus on delivering your services. i was expecting something much more 'spiritual' |

Snowwy: If we insist only on a literal meaning, we miss the more important spiritual intent. Snowwy: You said you are sure I had no clue now? Now I ask candidly that you assist my understanding since to you God's giving of the tithe to the Levites had no 'spiritual intent'? What do you want from me Snowwy You are the one that said we should adopt a spiritual approach to interpreting God’s law. All I’ve asked for is a spiritual interpretation of the law of tithing. 17Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.

19But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Yep I know you will come and say that 'tithe' wasn't mentioned explicitly but remember it was the Macedonian church that 'supported' Paul when he was speaking to the Corinthian's that he had a 'right of support' for preaching the gospel as he was 'robbing' other churches to service them. How come it was only the church at Macedonia that was giving to Paul I am sure if tithing was mandatory, the Corinthians would have been tithing or contributing to Paul In fact, if there are benefits that can only be derived from tithing, the Corinthians would have been tithing Or are you saying Paul did not teach them the benefits of tithing Maybe Paul was not aware of the benefits as it was only recently discovered by the prosperity MOGs Your post here provides enough evidence that tithing was never part of the giving equation back in the days Snowwy: If do not like the word 'tithe' as I said earlier, please give 'support' to the preachers of the gospel. Feel better? Now you are talking ‘Supporting’ the preachers of the gospel is what I want to hear. We don’t tithe (or give 10%) to the preachers of the gospel, we support them (based on our means, and cheerfully too) That’s what Paul was talking about. I do feel better Snowwy |
