Car TalkRe: Need Help: Radio Causing Battery Drain. by ZIMDRILL(m): 1:54pm On May 15, 2017
mili3kid:
ok guys so car in question is a toyota Rav 4 2006 model.
i have been experiencing battery drain in the past and finally was able to trace it to the car radio system. from my investigation;
1. if radio is still on when engine is put off = battery drains
2. if radio is put off b4 engine off = no battery drain
so pls what I need to know is how to resolve this issue. even if the radio is not out off before engine off. and also why is the radio still draining so much battery current even if engine is off?
cc Gazzuzz Honmusa Nurey Diportivo
and everyone with useful tip on resolution

where d profs dey abeg .. epp me ooo
car radio works with 3 wires, ground aka negative, then 2 positive ones that works differently the 1st positive is always ON even when the ignition is switch off this wire is the one that suppies power to keep memory in radio this like time, your preset station etc meaning when you switch the radio on it start from where your left it, if you were playing a cd it continue from where you left it from. So this wire is always ON then the 2nd this one usually works with the stages of the ignition key either only on when insert the key or when put in stage 1 or 2 of ignition that the one that switches off the panel of your radio.

so the common mistake some people do is they connect the two positive wire to that positive which is always on, so one you do that it means your radio is always on even with ignition off the only way is turn off the radio physically after or before the ignition is off

solution you need to find the 2nd wire that only turn ON when ignition/accessory is ON and connect the one of the radio positive to that one, then your radio should be able to switch off automatically after switch of the ignition if it doesnt it simply means your criss crossed the two positive one

ISO standard connection colours for aftermarket radio are YELLOW = ALWAYS ON POSITIVE 12V aka battery, RED = 12V ACCESORY powers only when key is ON or ingition 1 or 2, the finally BLACK = GROUND aka NEGATIVE

So based on aftermakert radios YELLOW wire to connect to a permanent 12v wire (always on with 12v feed) the RED connected to 12v wire that on becomes on when key in ingition 1 or 2 and BLACK is on GROUND aka negitive, this way your radio switch of when ignition is also OFF

Good day house,

Please I would beg some one to help me list the major tools and equipment required to set up an auto service workshop (excluding land/building). This is urgently required for some feasibility studies on a site. As many sections as possible can be included. If possible, an estimated budget would be great too, but if not possible, still no problem. All and any other relevant data is highly welcome and appreciated. Thanks.

Errm, actually formula One cars use highly sophisticated semi-automatic, seamless shift gearboxes
there sequential gearbox

with sequential gearbox you can not skip gears

the difference with formula one and ordinary sequential is changing via electric shift paddle on the steering wheel whereas normal sequential you shift by hand just like manual car
Car TalkRe: What Tools Do You Carry In Your Car? by ZIMDRILL(m): 11:03pm On Apr 10, 2017
adanny01:
My car broke down twice, a broken fuse and exhausted brake pad. Cooling fan stopped and the car started over heating. Then i didnt know what i know now but i paid an electrician 1k who replaced the fuse in less than a minute. I would same by myself

The break pad finished on me on an 800km journey less than half of the way on a sunday with an office car. Lack of these tools delayed my journey for almost 2 hours even with new pads in the car but had only 17 flat wrench instead of a ring or sucket. The flat only got damaged without success.

In most cases, i assisted people and even mechanics with these tools thats why some of them keep disappearing. For example, my ELM bluetooth scanner has been more helpful to my friends car than mine. Leaving it at home means no help for him.

That wine opener saved 2 weddings from embarrasement. In fact it is the most used tool of the lot.
our brakes pads where worn out before the journey, its unfortunate you only findout during the journey unless your car was binding
Car TalkRe: How Does A Speed Limiter Device Work??? by ZIMDRILL(m): 10:05am On Apr 10, 2017
suyisegun:
A Speed limiter is an engine control device which interfaces with the engine control unit (ECU - some people call it brain box) and speedometer of a vehicle to restrict the engine speed once the vehicle reaches a pre-configured speed. A speed limiter may work by reducing the airflow into the vehicle engine, the fuel supply to the engine or adjust the timing of the engine's ignition system to keep the vehicle from exceeding the preset speed limit imposed by the limiter.

Speed limiters are common on many types of vehicles and are usually compulsory devices equipment on trucks and commercial vehicles in some jurisdictions. Different government agencies may enact Laws that require speed limiters for use in commercial vehicles. The main reason for installing speed limiters is that limiting the speed of these type of vehicles may improve highway safety. In the scenario of a passenger car, the reason for speed limiters is generally to prevent the vehicle from exceeding speeds that may affect certain design limitations and improve safety of the vehicle.

The Federal Road Safety Commission in line with a resolution reached with National Automotive Design and Development Council of Nigeria (NADDC), Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) and other stakeholders has made it mandatory for all vehicles in Nigeria with emphasis on commercial vehicles (buses, trailers, tankers and trucks) to install Speed Limiting Device before a deadline of October 1st, 2016.
FOR ANY CAR WITH AN ECU you dont need to install ant device, any advanced DIAGONOSTIC TOOL MACHINE will set a speed limit we use a SNAPON SOLUS PRO to deactivate vans that were limited by various companies especially from a ROYAKMAIL

like some said the government is milking people by fittinf devices instead of just limit via OBDII

The only answer to your question is out of 100% Nigerians, only 5% are car enthusiasts and only about 1.5% reside in Nigerian (Automotive engineering "Nurey et al 2010"wink

Most cars you see like the mustang, camaro, chargers, challengers are only bought by the owners to show off, some don't even know the hp the car is churning out.

Now to answer your question, the problem is poverty and dearth of information, to get those cars are expensive imagine a 2001 Ford Mustang tokunbo going for 3.2m when I can get a 2010 camry or a 2012 Kia optima for that price. Getting the parts of that car isn't easy too as you have to search online and import which isn't a walk through.

Those cars are available if you head to the right car stand but the price will be unbelievable. I recently did a research in US export of salvaged cars, it was for a 2008 Volvo S40 turbo charged I noticed with $5500 I could get two accident cars bring it in with clearing and match them together.

I got the inspiration from a estate neighbor who did same for a 2006 pathfinder in 2008 and he still owns the car till date.
You can go that route too with a Nissan or the Infiniti M35x
you nailed it

am not a nigerian or never been in nigeria nissan gtr is for racers real drifters

thats the reason we dont see cars like ariel atom in africa becoz with african mentality people will think its a buggy car put for speed and fun you can enjoy the car on track and on the road

like you said most africans buy as show off

OK... I took my car for servicing yesterday . Honda accord 2000 v4 engine.. . Before which I scanned it and it gave out the following codes.. P301..p302..p303..p304..p300..P1166.. P141 and p1399....i know that most of these codes are cylinder misfire related.. So.. I serviced my car my car yesterday.. Changed plugs..and did the normal servicing. . After which I expected the codes related to misfire to clear.. It did.. But after driving for a day and scanned again.. P302 came up.. Along with p1399 and p1166...then I cleared.. It and drove again.. And all the old codes came back up.. I asked the mechanic who said I need to service the fuel nozzles... I observed from my many scanning that it's p1399 that makes other misfire related codes to Come up.. I could be wrong thou... Also.. My check engine light has been on.. But... Since the codes came up.. If I drive above 3-4 rpm.. My check engine light blinks.. What code the codes mean and what do I do... Gazzuzz... Kingreign.. Mayor123... Honmusa.... Zimdrill... Nurey... Egbonmogaji.... Make una help me ooo..... Also... Since the codes came up.. If I turn up the ac.. The engine vibrates.. Help car talk fam.. .
1st clearing the code doesnt help if you havent found out what is triggering the code

since you change few things with new ones i guess the problem on an electrical somewhere wires etc

Greyowl:
Yes I check and discover one of the fan is not working at all and I took it to the rewire and he told me he has change it but when I check it again the same fan is not working. What could be wrong
Most people are not answering you in a very simple understanding way
Let me

Break it down for you
1 the picture of the temperature gauge!!! thats were your temperature should be half way mark, below that it mean your engine is running cold which means it will eat more fuel as it designed to reach the half way mark becoz thats were your engine would more fuel effiecent
2 you got two fans 1 is for Ac and one for the engine coolant, the one for AC will come on when you turn on AC that fan cools AC gas, the second one is for the engine coolant, only come on only when the engine temperature goes above 85 degrees (manufuctures set different ranges between 85 &99 ) so if your temperature gauge goes beyond half way mark thats when the engine fans kick in. This depends if the previous owner didnt temper with original car set up (most nigerian they connect direct)

So to simply test if the engine fan is still working via thermostat etc drive the car untill it temperature reach halfway which is normal and not its overheating, then park the car dont switch the engine let idle, within 5-10mins your engine fan should kick in, that would be a sign to say the fan is fine and working as normal
If it doesnt kick in 1st let it run for more minutes but it shouldnt be more than 25mins without kicking in/running

Car TalkRe: 10 Cars That Have Other Names In Other Countries by ZIMDRILL(m): 2:28pm On Feb 22, 2017
AutoJoshNG:
Did you know that some cars bear different names in other countries as against what we call them in Nigeria?

The major reason is, car manufacturers won’t use a name that would compromise their car sales in any country. For example, Mitsubishi “Pajero” ended up as Mitsubishi “Montero” in some countries because it means “self-servicer = To Masturbate” in spanish.

In some cases different manufacturers pull resources together to produce the same car. This saves cost especially research cost.

See the cars below…

1. Toyota Highlander is Toyota Kluger in Australia and Japan

1. Toyota Highlander is Toyota Kluger in Australia and Japan

2. Ford Escape is Ford Kuga in South Africa

3. Honda Accord is Proton Perdana in Malaysia

4. Honda Civic is Acura CSX in Canada

5. Lexus RX 300/330/350 is Toyota Harrier in Japan

6. Toyota Rav4 is Toyota Vanguard in Japan

7. Toyota Camry is Toyota Aurion in Australia

8. Chevrolet Aveo is called Holden Barina in Australia

SnowJay92:
I couldn't quite find a suitable topic for this post, so please even if the topic doesn't fit, find time to read through...

I am a young petroleum engineer, who has struggled through life so much that I nearly started to see myself as an underachiever or should I say an underperformer. I wouldn't bore anyone with the story of my life and no, I won't wallow in self pity, I conquered that, to the glory of God.

At the moment, I'm at a crossroads in my life/career and I need well meaning nairalanders and people who have gone further than I have on this journey to please kindly help me out.

I currently work in a production plant somewhere in south east, I'm so dissatisfied with my work, because just like usual, I feel like I'm made to do more with my life, plus salary is not anything to go by (less than 50k), and I have to work from Monday to Saturday, no time to add any value to myself, my superiors are old school, can't share a new idea without getting a 'just do what you're told' shun. The only definition of hard work around here is when you can lift a good number of cartons per day and sweating profusely, no disrespect to them though, they were raised in a different generation and they foot my bills for now.

I recently got advised by a friend of mine, to attend a mechatronics course at IIT in Lagos, to help me broaden my knowledge in industrial automation and help me assume a more rewarding and technical role in the industrial sector. I also found out about Leland Tech academy, Ibadan that offers similar courses, this course goes for around 650k, and I can only raise like half of the cash from my savings, I could rally the rest from relatives, but should I choose to go for the course, it would be a bold step, should I spend my savings on the training, I don't see myself going back to my parents or anyone for financial support, so if I don't land a good job post training, on my own.

My confusion goes thus;

I am not certain of my prospects of getting a job after doing the mechanics program because I would have to leave my current job to go for the program, anyone who knows about the automation course at IIT or Leyland Tech, anyone who can predict my prospects out there with the knowledge I can grab from doing this course should please advise me.

Should I fearfully stay managing in my current place of work, there is zero chances of progression, I can only only do it for as much as I can endure, it would still end the same way, but I having cold feet and my people are not helping, they don't understand what I feel. Should I stay doing my job or should I take the make the jump, giving the lack of jobs and the economic situation of the country.

My aim in life has always been to be an independent person, I even attended a training at FIIRO on how to make fruit juice, late last year with the intention of going into entrepreneurship when since the labour market was so mean, I haven't been able to set up because of lack of funds, I equally recently took up a hobby in specialty chemicals, started with formulating a car wash and oil remover for local car washes. But to me all these are not falling together, I don't want to be a jerk of all trade, I need to take a definite route.

All well meaning contributions and advise would be welcome, criticisms will be appreciated.

Cc: Lalasticlala davide470 please I want people to read this, I need your input too. Thanks.
the key WORD is course there is a difference between a course and degree or diploma

a course is ok if it very close related to current job if its not stop wating your time and money as a company would prefer some with a diploma or degree that certification from a course

may be you mean leaving the job and going back to uni and do a degree then that fine but if its just those courses, i would say stay on the job get more experience for your CV then eventually move to better company
Car TalkRe: The Meanings Behind These 15 Symbols On Your Car's Dashboard by ZIMDRILL(m):
Autofreeman:
When something goes wrong with your car or if a feature you should know about gets activated, a signal funnels through the electrical system and into the dashboard. This illuminates a hieroglyphic, and these cover a wide range of issues—some of which may be serious. Here are the meanings behind 15 of these curious-looking markers (and what they look like, in case you need a mnemonic device to help your memory).

Autofreeman.com.ng
07060851026

Your dashboard may be different and the symbols may have altered designs or indicate slightly different things, so be sure to consult your owner’s manual. Some of these lights could portend a serious malfunction. Don't ignore them. When in doubt, have a professional check it out.

1. Engine Temperature Warning Light

What it means: Your engine is too hot/ is over heating/ or is low on coolant.

2. Tire Pressure Warning Light

What it means: The pressure in one or more of your tires is too low and needs to be attended to.

3. Oil Pressure Warning

What it means: Your engine is running low on oil, or there is a problem with your car's oil pressure system.

4. Traction Control

What it means: The car's traction control system is engaged.

5. Engine Warning

What it means: It can blink on for a number of reasons.

1. Your Oxygen (O2) Sensor needs replacing

Your oxygen sensor measures the amount of unburned oxygen in your vehicle's exhaust system.

What if I don't replace it?

- Your engine will burn more fuel than needed
- You will experience loss of fuel economy (up to 40% if ignored)*
- Faulty sensor(s) can cause damage to your spark plugs and catalytic converter

2. Gas cap is loose, damaged or missing

Your gas cap seals the fuel system and helps maintain pressure within the fuel tank. It also prevents gasoline fumes (hydrocarbons) from being released into the atmosphere while you aren't driving your car.

What if I don't replace it?

- You can lose fuel through evaporation
- You may make more trips to the gas pump

3. Catalytic Converter needs replacing

Your catalytic converter helps protect our environment by converting harmful carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide. Damage usually occurs due to neglected maintenance (reasons # 1, 4, and 5).

What if I don't replace it?

- Your vehicle will not pass an emmissions test
- You will experience reduced performance and fuel economy
- Your car may run at a higher temperature

4. Mass Airflow Sensor needs replacing (MAF)

Your mass airflow sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine to determine how much fuel is needed to run your engine efficiently.

What if I don't replace it?
- Faulty sensors can cause damage to spark plugs, O2 sensors or catalytic converter
- You will experience reduced performance and fuel economy

5. Spark Plugs or Plug Wires need replacing

Your spark plugs ignite the air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber of your vehicle. The spark plug wires deliver the spark from the ignition coil to the spark plugs.

What if I don't replace it?

- You will experience poor performance (reduced power, engine missing) and reduced fuel economy
- Worn plugs and plug wires can cause clogged catalytic converter or damage to ignition coils and O2 sensors

6. Anti-lock Brake Warning

What it means: There is an issue with your anti-lock brake system that needs to be diagnosed and fixed.

7. Automatic Shift Lock or Engine Start Indicator

What it means: You need to engage the brake, either to start your car's ignition or to get it out of neutral.

8. Battery Alert

What it means: The car's charging system is short of power (faulty Alternator, or lose of contact at alternator wiring). You are running solely on battery.

9. Fuel Indicator Symbol

What it means: You are running low on fuel. Fun fact: The symbol on the fuel gauge also has an arrow next to it—this indicates which side of the car has the gas cap. No more gas station three-point turns in rental cars ever again.

10. Seatbelt Reminder Light

What it means: Buckle your seatbelt, please.

11. Airbag Indicator

What it means: There may be an issue with one or more of your car's airbags, or the airbag system in general.

12. Fog Lamp Indicator

What it means: Your fog lights are on.

13. Security Light

What it means: You may need a key with the proper transponder in order to trigger the ignition. Or, there is something else wrong with your car's anti-theft system.

14. Traction Control Malfunction

What it means: There is an issue with your anti-skid system, and it may be shut off completely.

15. Washer Fluid Indicator

What it means: The washer fluid level is low. Please fill that up when you get a chance.

Most fuel pump hang from top to bottom of the tank, when fuel is eg above quatar tank all the dirty is widely spread since there will be more fuel but once you go into reserve meaning less fuel and therefore dirty get sucked to one central point i.e the filter

general meaning of a third party

it cover the person you hit when you are at wrong meaning it doesnt cover you when you are a wrong simply meaning lets say you hit someone and you being at fault the insurance will cover the cost of repair of that damage car and yours you foot the bill from your own pocket

the general rules of insurance is every car on road must be insured so that in an accident scenario cost of repairs etc repairs bill etc will be always passed on person who is wrong and if you are insured that wont be a problem your insurance company will foot the bill based the insurance you took

The warning light indicates that the fuel has reached the reserve level, which is about 10 to 15 percent of your tank’s total capacity. You can use that reference along with your car’s average fuel economy to calculate your remaining range, but it’s a good idea to not risk running the car until it’s dry.

While standing on the side of the road with your empty car waiting for a tow truck or walking to the nearest gas station and returning with a jerry can is embarrassing enough, there’s another serious concern that could impact your wallet. And it will be way more expensive than a tank of gas.

In your fuel tank, there is a contraption called a fuel pump, which sends the fuel from the tank to the engine.

The fuel pump relies on the gasoline in the tank to keep it cool and lubricated. Running the car with a low tank means that the pump isn’t staying as lubricated as it should and is at risk of overheating. The obvious downside to this is premature failure of the pump.

That’s a pretty expensive repair. Failing fuel pumps will lead to poor performance, particularly with a car not accelerating smoothly or starting at all.

Your fuel pump also has a fuel filter, which can quickly get dirty if you drive with a low tank. Since any sediment or dirt sinks to the bottom of the tank, the fuel filter could end up getting blocked or could take in dirty fuel, which also has costly consequences.

Ignoring your car’s low fuel warning is generally a bad idea, and running your car on empty can cause serious and costly problems to your car’s fuel system. Keep that in mind the next time your car nags you to visit the gas station.

Ok so my fiancé and I are back together after much argument but I have since seen how what caused our problem was serious and decided to change my ways. However, we now have a new problem.
So I was reading this blog post by some marriage counselor and it was about something like things to do with your spouse before you get married to know just how strong your bond will be. And what caught my attention was about shaving, it said that couples should be comfortable with shaving each other.

So I asked my fiance if he could shave me "down there" and to my greatest surprise he said and I quote "you no get hand" huh
I always thought that my fiance was the one who loved more between the both of us, but I'm beginning to doubt that.
Now I'm not too bothered about him not wanting to shave me "down below" but he is now begin defensive, asking me why would I ask him to do something that disgusting and if he is a barber.
This got me pissed and we are no longer talking.
life and marriage has no manual

you are using the blog as manual to love life which a disaster

know your man based on who he is not from what the blog wants him to be

you are not even married yet something work there way in slowly once you get married very comfortable with each other

never apply everything your read to your life, know your man 1st than trying to make him the perfect man your read in blogs and discusions
Car TalkRe: How To Keep Mice, Rats And Other Rodents Out Of Your Car Engine by ZIMDRILL(m): 7:51am On Jan 27, 2017
AutosBay:
You may have bats in your belfry, but how about rats in your manifold, or mice in your motor?

It is a myth that small autos are powered by hamsters running on exercise wheels, but it is an unfortunate fact that rodents can live and create mayhem in engine compartments.

In fact, the damage done to vehicles by mice, rats, and their many cousins can be considerable.

Gnawing wires, ripping out insulation for nesting materials, or squirreling away caches of nuts and trash in car and truck engines can destroy some of man's most sophisticated transportation technology and cause significant financial loss.

This is especially true if you live in a rural area. You need your car to get to your job or to go shopping, but wood rats and other critters want it for their homes.

Some Techniques Work: For Some People, Some of the Time

Rodents are everywhere, and some are likely to invade your vehicle and do damage. They can find your car, decide it is a safe place to make a nest and a handy site to store food. If you can discourage them, you may win the battle.

There are dozens of techniques used to prevent mayhem by the destructive critters. Here are some successful measures rat damage victims have tried, especially in combination. Multiple lines of defense seem to work best.

Steps to take:

Leave the hood up. Rodents are looking for a dark place to nest. This idea may help discourage nesting, but may not be practical in all situations.

Hide your dog food, cat food, and birdseed. Dog food is the gold standard of rat society. Rats will stuff pounds and pounds of it into the air cleaner, glove compartment, or other empty spaces in your car.

Remove or seal off rat hiding places near the car. Cut down nearby shrubbery and vines where they can hide. If you have a garage, block rat-sized entrances to the building, or spray them with substances or solutions that rats hate

Block small entrances to the engine compartment. Some car owners place traps around the vehicle or on top of the wheels, since rats climb wheels to get into the engine. Some block engine openings with wire screen.

Use electronic deterrent devices. Rodents can hear ultrasound, and it annoys them, at least for a while. Some learn to ignore it. Strobe lights like Mouse Blocker or Rid-a-Rat may work for longer periods, as they disrupt the darkness that rats prefer.

Make your engine and its entrances smell bad, at least to rats. Motorists have had success with peppermint oil, powdered fox urine, used cat litter, cat hair, dog hair, Pine-Sol, Irish Spring soap, red pepper, and laundry dryer sheets. The people who make "Rataway" tell you to spray it on all the wires in the engine.

Finally: use traps to remove the rats who get through. The old-fashioned snap traps still work. Glue traps work too but may torture the rat. Humane cage traps may work, but relocating the varmits can be a problem. Toxic baits do kill rats eventually, but are likely to also poison predators, including domestic animals.

rats rarely live in a daily driven car

if you find rats in your it means it has been parked for too long
