Haba OP, softly tell us these kind of stories. Which wife will jump up and wrap her legs around her inlaw. Ah ah!!!! Please, that was already more than enough. No place in the world greets like that. Totally inappropriate behavior to have with even ones father when you are over 12, not to talk of an inlaw.
No story sis. This is real life.

Well, the guy stayed with me in the guest room all night and there was no sneaking out if the room, we were all awake. I think its just his American upbringing sha.

Update. Things have come to a head. The brother has decided to sleep in a hotel though my friend is kinda asking him to forget and stay. Me am leaving tomorrow anyways. Good luck to them.

Family › Was The Wife Inappropriate? by 5minsmadness(op): 1:57pm On Jul 21, 2014
I went to abuja for a business meeting and stayed at my friend's place over the weekend. On Saturday his brother came from the US and we all welcomed him to the house. My friend's wife was very excited to see him(he hasn't been around since the wedding i.e 2yrs) and after he came into the parlour and dropped his bags he ran straight for her. They hugged with my friend's brother carrying the wife off the floor and she wrapped her legs around his waist. They were like this for a few seconds before they let go and my guy had this hardened look but said nothing.
Fast forward to Sunday morning , we were preparing to go to church when I heard raised voices from the guest room. I came out to find out that my friend had walked in on his wife and brother sharing a 'very affectionate' hug.
Bros face has been like stone ever since. Wife is saying he's over-reacting, that it was just a hug. His junior bro has not said anything about the matter but the atmosphere in the house has been pretty tense since then.

I know my friend is the sensitive type and has a short fuse, but then again I don't think he has anything to fear since his brother is the one involved.
What do you guys think?

Anacksunamun: You are the only one turning into something else, you are quick to comment on an FP thread and forgot to read and comment without asking dumb questions.

@Topic, nice thought-provoking article I must say. But the generalisation defeated its purpose(s). Yeah, such men that behaved like the writer said are hypocrites and cowards, but not ALL men act such way.

The fact remains most of the men described by the writer are flirts, playboys, serial humpers who wants to hump all types of ladies before settling down; or doesn't even want to settle down but to keep fùcking around.

Bad people exist in both genders. Just like we have ladies that sleeps around with several men and parties in the poshest clubs and when they hit 30+, they'll remember to "change" so they could settle down with an unsuspecting responsible men. Both genders have their bad sides.

The truth is, a man that truly loves his woman and wants to wife her, won't bring up such excuses, he'll even go against all odds to wife his lady (Peter Okoye of P-square, anyone?). It's only men that doesn't love their women and wants sexuál/companionship gains only, that will bring up such childish excuses. And sometimes, there's this issue of finance. A man wants to be financially stable before "committing" and sometimes if he's broke, he can't marry his lady. The economy of Nigeria is not helping matters too.

Also some men just don't want to get married, they prefer being single and free for the rest of their lives; yeah, such men exist. so it's all about choices, kinds of men, certain issues still making the men not to settle down. So the onus is partly on the ladies to know the type of men they hook up with. Most times, the kind of men the ladies hook up with, ain't the type that are ready to settle yet and they want the man to settle down with them against all odds. Nah, it doesn't work that way.

To speak up for some men too; not all ladies are worthy of being married. Some ladies doesn't possess that which a man might GENUINELY want in his lady, so you can't put the blame on the men alone. And one mistake some ladies shouldn't make is dating a man because he must marry her. That's wrong. You might want to get settled down with him for the rest of your life, but bringing up the issue of marriage after few months of dating is childish. A man that's ready to wife you, might not even take up to two months to make up his mind.

If you have so many humble ones as friends, will I be safe in assuming that it is the minority that are proud? Is pride a crime? Is that the main reason JOHESU is antagonizing them, because of their pride?

Secondly who is currently in charge of regulating the ivd and have they done anything wrong to warrant a change. I'm aware importation of anything in this country is a business venture, why would soneone hand over his business to you?

I'm sure they don't have any problem with others increasing their salary as long as thiers is increased in proportionate terms as well. There is no way you do med lab or nursing and expect to be paid the same wages as doctors. They are your bosses and you work under them, simple. The work you do is to augment or assist theirs and not the other way around. There is heirachy in everything.

I don't know much about soldiers but I will speak for the engineers and lawyers since I have friends and relatives in that area.
My cousin studied mechanical engineering and my brother electrical engineering. Both were for 5years. My cousin currently works in an oil firm and I can authoritatively tell you that his entry salary was by far more than what a consultant doctor earns. My brother works for a consulting firm where he is contracted out to work for Mtn,GLO services etc. His salary is a little higher than what a house officer earns. How do I know? I specifically asked during one of the doctor strikes and was confidentiality shown certain doctors payslips. Its not as much as you guys make the general public to think.

The lawyers I know earn a good amount of money as well, if the amount we pay them for appearing daily for court cases is anything to go by.

Then again, doctors are trained to save lives. They are trained to work on human beings. One mistake can leadto a pperson's death, one contribution can save a life. Their work has to do with making decisions that alter the course of life and death EVERYDAY. Is that the kind of person you want to pay peanuts. If you were a doctor would you accept to be paid the same amount as a med lab scientist who I think did only 4yrs of training? Try and be realistic man.

jideolubiyi: Maybe when you're done calling me ignorant and naive, you will realize that you're sounding scared, threatened by these other health workers. It takes someone scared out of his wits to consider that particular titles belong to you just because you are doctors.
OK. First off, I'm not a medical doctor. I notice that anybody who supports the doctors on this you guys turn to guerrilla tactics and bullying and declaring that the person is a doctor. Sorry but some regular people are actually on the doctor's side in this.

Specialist status doesn't belong to any group of people.
Lol. Yes it does. An engineer is an engineer is an engineer(repetition intended) just lik you are whatever it is you are. There are laid down rules to becoming a specialist in any field. You want to be a masters degree holder? Go for your postgraduate course. You want tobe a medical consultant? Go to medical school. Its simple, really.
It's the warped political culture in the country that encouraged the unwarranted arrogance of employees like medical doctors.
Its the warped political culture in the country that has made the doctors go on strike in the first place.
And what's all this about doctors and arrogance? How is it your business if they are arrogant? Your post reeks of arrogance itself. Check up the meaning in a dictionary.

So you think I'm naive, ignorant because I gave no hoot about calling a spade a spade? We shall all stand here and see how these all turn out
The statement wasn't meant to be offensive. Apologies.

The time is already ripe for the public to get involved in this madness, this madness that allows some dumb-ass health workers to think they can do just what they like. We are going to see more of what happened in Lagos, and by the time many of the hospitals are privatized, as a private owners some of us will set salaries strictly based on output and market forces...
And you might be surprised at the outcome. In fact I support privatization. It will put an end to most of the rubbish going on in the health sector.
You wrote as if the public is so unaware of goings-on at the public hospitals. I make bold to say that once the medical doctors become consultants it virtually becomes impossible for patients to see them again.
Fully agree on this as I have experienced it personally. However I know there are flaws in every profession. I'm sure if you were to be honest your oga doesn't come to work every time. I know mine doesn't. Someone else once said that by the time a consultant comes to see you everyday then it means your case is hopeless.
My battery is down, will continue after I charge my phone.
They simply disappear from the stations. In short, they become less useful to the public than before they became that. Now, how does medical consultancy help us? Apart from the fact that tax-payers' money used in training your lots become wasted...Yes, we still have to continue paying their inflated salaries while they disappear from serving the public to manning their private clinics.
Once again, very common in our govt civil service. People in other walks of life e.g accountants, secretaries etc leave their govt jobs to do their private businesses. Although wrong, It is not peculiar to the doctors .
You can abuse the public, even accuse us of being ignorant and unable to read the happenings.
those are your words not mine. I didnt abuse anybody. You are beginning to sound like a petulant child!
Go ahead and do all that. You are all moving us towards privatizing the sector, and some of us are waiting for just that. If a nurse practitioner is more useful to a patient care, then she/he is going to be remunerated accordingly.... By then you will lose your hideous confidence in such catch phrases as "pay relativity", "government is the root of all the evil in the health sector", "doctors own the patients"... Your possession of medical license..etc will cease to be your claim to public respect, but your contribution to patient management as adjudged by the public, by the patients
Hahaahahahha! So wait bros, if you have the money to start a private hospital, you'll employ a nurse consultant first? Do you know anything about business at all? I take it back. You are naieve!(and by you I mean you and not the public!)

And when private investors control the sector, we shall see who is really ignorant...the investing public or our medical doctors.
Once again, in support of this. Somehow I don't think our medical doctors will be shaking in thier boots if this happens. Quite the contrary.

Thanks grin

At least its only the bolded you disagreed with me on.
These 'doctors' you mentioned are well known people and do not work in the health sector. Nobody is going to meet okonjo-iweala and ask her to treat them for malaria.

There is enough confusion in the health sector as it is with all of you wearing lab coats that we don't even know who the real doctors are anymore. Be proud of your own profession or if you envy doctors so much and want to treat patients like them, go to medical school. Its open to everyone and am sure nobody will object.
Health › Unfair To Doctors by 5minsmadness(op): 1:32pm On Jul 19, 2014
Let me start by saying a good afternoon to you all. I'm new to this section although an ardent nairalander whose moniker was wiped off by the Nairaland rapture that occurred  some many weeks ago. I greet my elders in the house.

Secondly let me state that I know a lot of medical personel and have them as friends. This is because my business carries me around them a lot. I have doctors, nurses, med lab scientists as close associates. The only people I will say am not too close to are pharmacists, except for maybe the drug reps, no particular reason, its just the way it is.

Now then, about this current NMA strike. I think we are being unfair to out doctors.
Right from when we started taking jamb the medical profession has been seen as something of an enigma. The cut off point even I wrote jamb was 230 for UBTH. it was rivalled only by engineering(can't remember wether mech. or elect.) by 212 points. The other course were way below par. I believe this was done so we could pick the best brains out of the populace to study medicine because it is a demanding course with a wide scope. Don't ask me what I scored that year angry grin

After these select few were chosen, they were made to go through a rigourous 6yrs training program that usually extended up to 7-8yrs not by any fault of Thiers but due to various ASUU strikes and whatnot. By the time these people graduated from medical school most of us that entered with them had done our nysc and moved on with our lives as graduates.

But even before then the beefing had begun.

I remember a friend of mine who wanted to enter medicine at all costs, using pharmacy as second choice. He wrote jamb 3times and finally settled for chemistry. Till today he still envies the position of doctor even though we both run a lucrative business together.

Even then in school when we went to partys the medical students always stood aloof. Initially I thought it was because they were too full of themselves but then I found out that they just didn't have the time to relax like some of us did. I had one or two partying guys from medicine but that was it. I found out that they were really nice guys once i got to know them better.Their social life was rubbish cos they were trying so hard to learn all that was required to save a life.

But that didn't stop a lot of us from hating on them. Truth be told in retrospect I think we were just jealous or angry cos they refused to mix with us. Medical students aren't the best when it comes to socials or managing people which I also think is part of thier problem when they become medical doctors.

Down to graduation. The doctor graduates are one of the proudest I've seen! If you see the way they carry themselves eh, you'll wonder what they are feeling like. But then again why wouldn't they be proud? After finishing such a long and rigorous training and coming out of it alive and finally being able to answer the term Dr, Na beans? They are only human and they have the right to be proud of their profession just like anyone else.

I have been to hospitals in emergency situations and seen doctors covered in blood, struggling in dire situations, where there is no light to hardly see what is going on, some looking confused and not having a standard protocol of what to do...and then the consultant walks in and a certain relief comes over the entire room. That sense of authority that a specialist is there...that everything that can be done will be done to save the client.
I was told it can take up to 10yrs to become a consultant, I don't know how true this is and I stand to be corrected but I can imagine their training is rigorous. Its the reason they are paid the big bucks. Its the reason patients entrust their lives to them. Whether that makes them feel like gods is irrelevant. We should not let our desire to see people that are known for their aloofness suffer, blind us to the fact that making others hold this esteemed position will bring nothing but chaos to the health sector. Already patients are having problems deciphering who is a real doctor. When some people come for our programs and announce themselves as doctors I always get one or two people asking my boss "Is he a real doctor?"

What is JOHESUs real motive for wanting to be called consultants and being able to be made the MDs of hospitals? Is it really for the betterment of the patient? In this Nigeria that we know so well? When did they start caring for the patients so much?

Now that doctors are on strike unless there is a rule that I don't know about, now would have been the best time for the nurses and med lab scientists etc to show that they are equal to the doctors by doing the tasks of the doctors. Why are we saying patients are dying in the hospital when all the other me members of the health team are not on strike? Is it possible they rely on the doctors more than they want to admit?

I have heard some people on this forum say that the doctors are suppressing the other professionals from reaching their academic summit. How, exactly? Are they saying they don't have their own mode of academic ascent? Must they follow the doctors' own? Are they saying that all these years since Nigeria was brought into inception that no pharmacist or med lab scientists or nurse have ever risen to the highest level of their chosen field? I don't think so, though I stand once again to be corrected.

It is obvious they want the particular position of consultant for their own personal reasons and not at all in the interest of the patient.

I am against doctors strike. Doctors play a pivotal role in our healthcare system and a decent government should have been able to address their problems and brought sanity back to the health sector. Sadly, whether we have a decent government is what I would leave you the reader to judge. In saner climes the strike wouldn't have gone more than a week. But once again we are in Nigeria where no group is considered serious until they embark on a strike, whether ASUU or PENGASSAN or Polytechnics(whose strike was hardly noticed since it appeared not to be adversely affecting 'those that matter'), even the JOHESU has gone on strike numerous times.

I read somewhere that this is the NMAs last resort that they have been pleading with the government and asking for a dialogue but non was forthcoming and so they did what every other body that wishes to be heard in this country do-they went on strike.

How can you want to hold a position and yet not want to be willing to go through the requirements needed to have that position. I'm sorry but it just doesn't make sense to me.

My chemistry friend still has a thing against doctors. He says they are too proud, they are heartless, they are paid too much etc etc. And yet three days ago when his son had a fever he didn't go to the nurse who I'm sure is quite capable of treating common malaria. He didn't go to the lab or chemist. He went to see his private doctor. When I teased him and asked why he said "my brother this is life o, my child's life for that matter. Let me take him to someone that knows what he is doing." I simply stored that in my memory and said nothing else.

Health › Re: Nma Strike: The Patients's Perspective by 5minsmadness: 11:01pm On Jul 18, 2014
jideolubiyi: Judging from the doctors' contributions, it appears they feel threatened by other health professionals attaining consultant status in their different professions. Why exactly is that?
1) How would that endanger patient care? (verifiable facts, no "em-em-em, just doing feel good about it all!"
2) How would it make medical doctors less medical doctors? (facts, pls.)
3) Isn't there a chance, that such changes would ultimately benefit the patients?
4) If medical doctors specializing in different areas of medicine actually improves patient care, is there any ground to insist that similar specialization by other suitably trained health professionals would impair patient management?

Abi, won't a patient with diabetes, or hypertension receive better care when attended to by medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists (...etc) who have received further training that qualifies then as specialists in diabetes or hypertension, respectively?
Lastly, if specialist medical doctors can be appropriately referenced and remunerated as consultants, why should other health care professionals not be so treated when they possess the required qualifications?

Personally, I think it should be criminal for health care professionals to go on strike. But most of our doctors are so used to seeing human suffering and death that they have become incapable of valuing human life. But then, that is my own opinion and I think many Nigerians think the same way.
This your post smacks of ignorance and naivety. Read between the lines. Its obvious the other folks ganging against the doctors are doing it for political and selfish reasons.

All these years are you saying doctors have been preventing them from furthering their education? I think the main issue here is that they want to answer the post of 'consultant' , a position strictly reserved for the medical doctor and which position reflects an authority in charge of the patient
These consultants are the ones in whom the blame stops when it comes to life and death. I heard a young doctor say that a certain consultant owned a patient and if the patient dies he is the one that will be blamed; not the nurse, not the lab scientist, not the pharmacist, not even the house officer(the young doctor). And that'swhy they are paid the bIG money.

If the other health care professionals want to further their own field to the betterment of the patient I see nothing wrong in it. However I'm sure they have their own titles. They should be proud of their field and not try to encroach on or steal another specialties title in the name of 'helping the patient'. And I can assure you, knowing how Nigeria is, that no sooner they answer consultant that they'll start demanding for similar pay and wanting to have Dr attached to their names. Some are already doing it sef.

I just see selfishness and greed in this. haba. Let's tell the truth abeg.

Here's what I think:

1. 'True love' does not exist. Love comes from appreciating the person over time.

2. Two people living together in the same house forever is going to be tough. They are going to get on each others nerves, no matter how 'in love' they were before marriage. So they should be ready to weather the storms when they come and not give up at the slightest or even major challenges. That's what 'for better, for worse is all about.' That's how our parents had long lasting marriages.

3. I intend to make forgiveness a key part of my relationship with my wife to the best of my ability. Nobody is perfect.

4. Marriage is for life. Don't marry anybody using g deciet or lies or out of selfishness. You'll burn out. Don't marry out of pity either.

5. Get my mom to like her or at least tolerate her(my mom can be a handful grin grin grin). Always have her back when the family is around.

6. Make sure she wears sexy outfit indoors grin Its important to me angry

7. Make sure we settle number of kids before marriage. I want 4 ONLY

adeoladrg: Dear patients, just imagine the kind of doctor you want to entrust your life with!!!
Oh be quiet!
NOBODY is perfect, even if you bring all the most intelligent people in the world to Nigeria people will still die and that's the truth! I respect doctors for thier hard work that i have personally seen them do. Stop forming as if the consultancy the other people are asking for is for the benefit of the patients cos you damn well know in your heart that it isn't!

Now that the doctors are on strike what is preventing the JOHSU members from working to keep the patients alive? Like someone here said and as far as I know doctors don't lock the gates when they go on strike, why don't you save the dying patient?

Also are you saying that your level of knowledge as it is now makes you so incompetent that you can't contribute to a patient's well-being? If then no wonder our doctors are overworked if they have to do everything and work as a team with the likes of you!

A doctor, politely tells a nurse what to do for a patient, he or she first looks the doctor from head to toe. If the work is not done as directed, and the doctor complains, he is tagged arrogant. In the aim to gain relevance, a lot of Nurses have grown so aggressive, in recent times, that patients are too scared to approach them when in the ward.
I experienced this personally when I went to visit a friend on the ward in ubth. The doctor politely asked the nurse for scissors and she told him he should get it himself that she's a matron and he can't order her about. We all heard him say please and his voice was not at all raised and yet the nurse refused, choosing instead to sit her fat ass on the chair and look at the ceiling. The doctor had to remove his gloves to go look for the scissors himself. If he had challenged her now she would have started screaming arrogance and disrespect!
And then you want them to become consultants?! They won't even come near the wards again!
