ABUJA – President Mohammadu Buhari on Monday said that his
government will not totally discard the amnesty programme for
Niger-Delta region but will build on the good aspects of the
Programme.
This is even as he assured both foreign and local investors of his
readiness to implement far-reaching reforms which he said will
boost accountability and transparency in Nigeria’s oil and gas
industry.
Buhari spoke at a meeting with senior officials of Chevron led by
the company’s President for Africa and Latin America, Mr. Ali
Moshiri at the presidential villa, Abuja.
The president also promised to effectively address the myriad of
challenges in the sector.
“We understand the situation in the industry and we will do our
best to address the challenges affecting exploration, production
and distribution of oil products in the country,’’ the President told
the delegation.
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on
Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu stated that president
Buhari acknowledged that the Amnesty Programme was initiated
by President Umar Yar’Adua to reduce violence in the Niger Delta
region.
The statement added that “his administration will also implement
other measures to enhance security in the Niger Delta and
optimize investments in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.”
Speaking earlier, chevron president, Moshori urged President
Buhari to restore the confidence of international investors in the
industry even as he “identified improved security in the Niger Delta
as key to increased investment in the oil and gas sector in
Nigeria.”
According to him, “Chevron which has 36.7 percent interest in the
West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited, was keen to support
Nigeria’s gas sector and bring more electricity to Nigerian
consumers.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/we-ll-strengthen-amnesty-programme-buhari/ |
Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has said that the Imo state government will not use the All Progressives Congress, APC, Federal Government with President Mohammadu Buhari in charge to unleash impunity on the people of the state. The governor, who spoke when the traditional rulers and political leaders from Mbaise, where the governorship candidate of the PDP, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha comes from, paid him solidarity visit at the Government House, also said that the election petition tribunal sitting in Owerri, handling his case with the PDP candidate, should also be allowed and encouraged to do their work to the best of their ability. He dismissed claims in some quarters that he asked the traditional rulers from Mbaise to tell their son, Hon. Ihedioha to withdraw his petition, saying such never happened. He told the monarchs that his government has set up a committee to look into the case of the 40 traditional rulers, who dragged him to court and swore fake affidavit over an action he never took. He therefore, asked the traditional rulers involved not to allow themselves again to be deceived by the old style of the PDP where they used the PDP government at the centre to do some annoying things in the state. He added that such ugly development had come and gone since it is the APC that is in power at the federal level at the moment. His words: “Traditional rulers still operating on the wrong impression created by the PDP in the state would have themselves to blame. The Ezes, who have continued to fight the government will have themselves to blame. “Those, who believed that they had relationship with the president of the PDP extraction, are no more in power today. “But I cannot do what they did because I want to show leadership. I am proud of traditional rulers from Mbaise. He assured the traditional rulers that the University of Agriculture in their area will become realistic, and that Mbaise people have benefited much from the free education policy of his government and other projects judging from their large population. He said that in his first tenure, the Mbaise clan alone had three key commissioners, including that of finance, and had the chairman of APC in the state. The governor accepted to attend the 2015 Iriji Mbaise (New Yam Festival) because, according to him, his love for “Mbaise people is unconditional,” adding that Mbaise people have made tremendous contributions to the development and leadership of the state. He assured that he would continue to respect and regard the traditional rulers in the state. The traditional rulers had said earlier through the leader of the delegation, and deputy chairman of the state Council of Ndi-Eze, HRM Eze Chidume Okoro that they were solidly behind the governor and his Rescue Mission Government in the state and that the governor should not allow the action of few politicians from the area to make him feel that he is not loved by Mbaise people. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/i-wont-use-apc-fg-to-unleash-impunity-on-my-people-okorocha/ |
I like these architecture from Aba.

ezeagu:Sometimes I get amazed at the way some Igbos blame Northerners for everything. Tinapa's problem is accessibility as a result of bad road connecting Calabar and the rest of Nigeria. The South has ruled from 1999 to 2015 and Tinapa was completed around 2006. When I was complaining that Jonathan should help us in road infrastructure like Enugu/Onitsha highway or Nnewi to Okigwe whuch transverses through Igbo hinterland or even the 2nd Niger bridge most Igbos were unconcerned. Jonathan is from South south but was busy fighting his people who demanded for the needed attention. Under Buhari a lot of things will work in Nigeria and especially in the Southeast. It is just unfortunate he came in when the last Government has lavished oil boom proceeds. Ask yourselves who built the 1st Niger bridge, the 1st East-West road, The 4 refineries and the seaports and how many years it took. |

A suspected 15-year-old teenage armed robber, Kosi Ebosie, who was arrested in Umuchu town in Aguata local government area of Anambra state, has confessed to the crime, saying he inherited the gem from his father who was also a notorious criminal in the area. Ebosie told reporters that his family members were not surprised of his taken to crime as they used to tell him that he was the carbon- copy of his father adding his dad was a known criminal. The suspect was apprehended along with his two gang member, Chima David, 17 and Onyedika Ikesinachi, 16, on Tuesday, June 23, 2015. The teen robbers were arrested after they robbed St. Andres Anglican Church, at Umuchu. They reportedly robbed the church with arms during the early morning mass. According to PM News, the trio ran out of luck vigilantes and youths, who have been keeping vigil in the community following an incident where markets in the community was raided, caught the teen robbers. Ebosie said he dropped out of school to take to robbery which he described as being a lucrative business. He disclosed that he do not see himself leaving robbing because it as becomes part of his life. He further stated that he discovered at a very tender age that the urge for stealing is strong in him adding that his father had to sent him out of the house because of his insatiable quest for stealing, which eventually led him to joining the gang. One of Ebosie accomplices, David said that his entry into robbing started when he was stealing people’s fowls in the community where he lived. Confessing that he normally eat four fowls per week until the trap he used in catching the fowls mistakenly caught a dog. Following the incident that exposed him, he had no choice but to run away from home adding that he found a safe haven in the gang. The suspects were, however, said to be cooling their feet at Umuch police station. The divisional police officer of the station was not available to comment on the incident. However, a police source decried the growing number of teenagers in the state who have taken to crime. |
4Horsemen:No! He and all other people involved should helo in resolving the political angle while the real boko haram is crushed with military might. War is not good and every Government must try their best to stop war from happening within their territory. You cannot allow your supporters to celebrate over war in Maiduguri because you are from Edo. What affects a part affects us all. |
4Horsemen:Refusal of Jonathan to curb boko haram and the leaking of classified information to boko haram during his time is enough indictment that he was playing politics with terrorism. Okah indicted Jonathan as being behind the 1st bombing. Okah is neither Yoruba nor Northerner. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/politics/4906-henry_okah_insists_jonathan_behind_bomb_attacks.html |
The difference between Ijaw and Igbo. No brainy person likes his house to be used as theatre of war or his citizens to be slaughtered as collateral damage. |
Imo European University, Imo library and housing estate.

All the way from Asia to Owerri.
|
4Horsemen:How old are you? Do you have any relative in Borno? Sometimes I ponder at how low Igbos have stooped and the cause but I am yet to comprehend. Jonathan actually has a hand in the bombings and will be exposed. I believe the Ijaws that will bare witness against him like the Okah brothers and some militants will be declared Northerners. If its not done by Buhari, a future leader shall surely probe Henry Okah's case to logical conclusion. https://www.nairaland.com/2187245/us-report-reveals-nigerian-military Follow the above link and read why America withdrew support for Jonathan in the boko haram saga. Can you know more than US? |
mike404:Its true but I dont know how it concerns Abagworo. We must however admit another truth that it has been reduced by Okorocha Government. The back log I believe is over 20 years. Alvan Ikoku is however a federal institution. |
Duke007:Amaechi built much more solid roads than Akpabio as well as much more solid schools numbering over 500. These are not hidden as they are everywhere. Reduced unemployment in Rivers as well as the biggest real scholarship scheme for Rivers indigenes abroad. You cannot see a Rivers man anywhere working as househelp or gateman. He stopped youth restiveness and "marching ground" which accelerated the growth of Port Harcourt as a city for non-native investors. |
EkoIle1:This is from the archives. |
OdenigboAroli:You are either uninformed or being mischievous. Imo State is only 2nd to Rivers State in terms of school structures. No other State comes close. I really do wonder what other Igbos gain twisting facts because they hate Okorocha or like Jonathan. I just dont get. In your Anambra thread nobody is patriotic enough to write the truth about the increased filth, failed or very bad roads and high crime rate being experienced but you are here twisting facts because you dont want Okorocha to be President. |
Tonybills:He will be more useful as a personal friend than as Governor. |
BuddahMonk:The Mbakwe formula failed just like everything that involved Government doing business. The only surviving legacy was Concorde Hotel at the expense of successive Governments. The best option remains wooing investors and giving them support. There are a lot of Igbos outside who can fund profitable business ventures and all they need do is to make Igboland their headquarters while still maintaining branches elsewhere. We need to invest home. Thats all. |
pazienza:Inside Igboland there exists a deeper Igbo that unites against smaller units. That is the major reason why sometimes question of the true Igbo identity often comes to play. Take a look at Abia State where these deeper Igbos ganged up to deny Ngwa, Ndoki or Asa from producing Governor. The same people have been ruling and when eventually it was concluded to produce Ngwa, an Aro man was brought forth to replace him. Ngwas held meeting with other Igbos to reach a compromise on candidature but they claimed no Ngwa man is worthy to be Governor. Ikwerres did well to gain separate identity to protect themselves from the deeper Igbo gang up. A situation where they outnumber you in your land and then want to determine your King and how you live. That is very unfair. |
Scholes007:One of the few Igbos that know whats up. |
GenBuhari:Just like you wrote this in 2011 when we all saw what others could not see, the impact of Buhari is already here. The refineries are about to work again. This is just the beginning. |
Abagworo:That was my advice from 2013 which Jonathan could not get hold of because he was surrounded by liars. Buhari has already done number 4 but I have my own suggestion for Buhari which is different from Jonathan. The most important is for him not to seek 2nd term but focus on giving Nigeria his best 4 years. We shall be grateful. Just like Jonathan, Buhari's downfall will start from the day he tries to appease people to remain in power 2019. https://www.nairaland.com/1319417/india-nigerias-biggest-consumer-discovers |
This road was not even bad but I suspect he intends to repair the defaced walkways and maybe paint it and reinstall streetlights. |
InyinyaAgbaOku:It has underground drainage which you can see them desilthing in one of the pictures. |
asha80:I am yet to understand your point. The factory is located right after his campaign office as you can clearly see on the 1st pics. I thought you were from Imo State. Why are you not building yours? Mine is ongoing too as we want to support Okorocha's efforts. Finally only Nnewi people built many industries in their town. Orlu people equaly did even though less than Nnewi. Jacobs wines, Decorkote, Campharm, Consolidated breweries that produces 33 and Legend as well as many pharmaceutical and oil processing companies are there. So I do not get your point of pretending there were no industries in Imo State even before 1999. You should only support the fact that more needs to be done to curb unemployment not only in Imo but in Nigeria. |
Calabar is the real Southeast. Maybe you meant Igboland. |
asha80:Ararume inspecting work at his ongoing industrial complex. You can call it politics but it is real. Abagworo is equaly doing his. You can do yours to add to the chain of Imo millionaires who believe Buhari is here and Nigeria will work.
|
spyder880:Which State has done what you wrote? Only God knows why you guys hate Imo State and our Governor but the truth is that all of Nigeria has the problem above and it has to do with Federal Government of Nigeria. Under Jonathans admin everything was war including investments in opposition States. Like I wrote earlier, now Buhari is in charge we shall see what real development is. Aba already has power generation capacity instituted by Obasanjo which could not come into fruition owing to same petty politics of Jonathan era. Under Buhari all the power plants will work and all the refineries will work. It will help accelerate industrial growth in Nigeria. As for development Imo is a fairly developed State by Nigerian standard but has a long way to go. It however is far more developed than Enugu State and hence should never be discussed like it is retrogressive when compared with Anambra or Enugu where people live in hell. |
That is true my brother. The reason is because our oil is more expensive. Most of the importers are large scale palm oil users that produce vegetable oil through bleaching. That is why the "nkwu" program by Rochas Okorocha should be accepted in all Southern States. On the contrary many people are fighting government and saying he is wicked and wants graduates to farm. I wonder why many of us see farming as a low class profession. |
owobokiri:Did he or did he not visit Imo after winning the election? Please we deserve to be treated specialy for supporting Buhari in saving Nigeria. |
