Bizzysmitty:Good question. Nigerian nationality law if practiced by Western countries would be regarded as racist. Being born and bred in Nigeria does not confer citizenship unless one of your parents is a Nigerian citizen before you were born. Otherwise they must go through a bureaucratic application process that is quite delayed. The council of state that includes the current president, ex-presidents and heads of state, retired supreme court justices among others take the final decision. Not just the minister of interior (civil servants on his behalf really) like in most Western countries. Yet you can come from Niger, Chad or anywhere and speak Hausa or Fufulde and get a Nigerian passport, voters card, national Id card, join the armed forces and politics easily in Nigeria. |
yeyerolling:Or would she not better advice them to make hay while the sun shines? Like sticking to one guy when young than doing slay queen or feigning feminism up and down. How many women over 35 have the means like her to raise kids alone or grace the bed of a rich person like politician to her baby daddy? While it is her choice how she has her baby, glamouring deliberate single motherhood sends the wrong signal to impressionable young women out there. |
Firefire:More watery than dysentery poo my brother. Was the tremor measured? Do we even have an institution or board capable of measuring potential seismic activities? What clear scientific evidence have they that the tremor was solely due to stone quarry activities? Why has use of explosives in the quarries not been controlled till date? This is right near seat of FG power o. If it's near Okitipupa, Orlu, Goronyo/Sokoto, Otukpor or Ikot nko? |
gregyboy:Aside Asia/India/China/Burma/Southern China that rice originated from, West Africa has a long history of rice cultivation. So rice was not luxury for centuries when grown locally. It was in fact a staple. Though the manual nature of harvesting and processing was tedious. But baring rodents/bugs, it was easy to store for a couple of years as food for lean times too. It became luxury when local rice cultivation reduced and imported rice became normal in cities, later in rural areas too. The polished appearance of imported rice also make it more pleasant to the eye. Though nutritionally WORSE than local manually processed rice. Any imported thing readily becomes status symbol in Nigeria, especially if initially affordable to many. |
slivertongue:Abeg which destination? Does Nigeria have one? We're just Perambulating aimlessly. If we had a goal/destination, we might actually get there someday, albeit slowly. We're too diverse, too divided and in too much disagreement to even have a common goal. We're pulling in different directions along ethnic, religious and vested self-interests lines. If you think I am too pessimistic, I will tell you that growing up, we never heard anyone use religiously derogatory words to describe Muslims. And this was in a majority Christian area. We never felt any slight angst or suspicion seeing Muslims. Nor did we see or hear Muslims do same towards us in anyway. Hardly anybody would know we were not celebrating Sallah ourselves as all made merriment irrespective of religion. Some Christians even slaughtered rams or goats in solidarity then. Seems like another life now. If we had a loose Federal structure with much ambit for self-determination, various groups can decide to look West, Middle East or anywhere else for inspiration. So Thursday can even become the new Friday in core North if they so wish. That way there will be no need for constant complain of marginalization. But it appears the Federal Govt's grip on oil wells and money won't allow us take any decisions that will ensure realization of regional aspirations. |
afroniger:I wish Tinubu grew up and did not hound Oyegun for his neutrality in the matter back then. Akerodulu will not forget in a hurry. He wanted Oyegun to do his bidding but didn't. We can see how Oshi-omoh-ole who lacks diplomatic skills is struggling as party chairman and hemorrhaging members of APC. |
The fact that revolution has not broken out in this country shows that we are collectively not serious and deserve all the bad leaders we get. |
majekdom2:But once it happened and so much loss incurred, it was a big chance to appreciate peace & put a good political system in place that will ensure lasting peace & economic progress. I wonder about your level of historical knowledge. Germany & Japan are two of the most peaceful and successful industrial nations of the second part of last century. Both arose from the ruins and ashes of war. |
Olalan:Look most foreigners living in the country clearly laud the progress this country has made in such a short time. Not a fluke. This is the chance Nigeria missed after Biafra War: to build a decent country. Instead it became coups upon coups. |
OhiOfIhima:But life expectancy is higher in oyinbo countries. Average for women well over 80 now. Yes, maybe down to better economy & better health care system. But remains that as of right now, a white person can expect to live much longer than Nigeria's average of 52 years. So they do have life at the end. |
What of landlords resident abroad? How will they manage that within 14 days? |
oyb:Terrible. RIP to the deceased. |

God bless you. The youth want beautiful things, easy fame and money. Believing only those things matter. Nobody will give you good things on platter. Certainly not old cargo politicians. They care about themselves and family only. |
destinychildolu:Police has no right to search anyone's house without a court warrant issued by a judge. That is the law. Just because lawlessness pervades does not mean it is normal. Who issued the search warrant on what ground? Quite sad and embarrassing that the youth do not care to know basic human rights. Searching is no big deal, but doing so without legal permission as the law stipulates is a VERY big deal. |
It just shows our so called leaders have no principle whatsoever. All about themselves. Crossing from whatever party to whatever party. Very bad for our democracy. Parties are supposed to have a manifesto/ideology. People are attracted to various parties based on the principles which a party reflects. But in Nigeria, no such thing in reality. It shows they have no intention of delivery anything positive to the masses. |
Waffarianman:JWs would not fast to the point the people would know. Fasting is between you and God. Also when you do charity. Right hand left hand story, remember? Other they have other things that are somewhat extreme (though with clear Biblical backing) like refusing blood transfusion in modern times, or staying away from family members who are not JWs, they won't go this fasting extreme. |
His husband. I was expecting to see a gay couple. |
stevio:Niger & Benue. But the slay Queens are not from Lokoja. ![]() |
If we are not morons, how did we end up with leaders seeking medical care in foreign countries and looting our money to the West? MURIC is high of religious fanatics ideology. |
nwakibie3:I think the oil flowing us too much. It is beginning to shark Buhari. Since his son can crash German motor bikes worth several primary school, he has forgotten himself. Sorry go soon be his name. |
He went out literally with a bang. Probably with a smile on his face. ![]() But compelling recruits to have sex is very bad. And using his office too? |
tribalistseun:He will qualify for his passport after 6 years of working in UK. Since he came in legally and began working/playing football right away. As long as no criminal record. UK govt does not see what he does in his local mosque, it's not a Muslim country. |
Gross. |
At times we choose to generally disbelieve politicians. Because we cannot tell when they are honest or not. But Atiku may have a point. Among different parties, friendships do cut across. PDP did win 5 SW states, no mean feat at all. Had he really tried hard or adopted "by any means" method in Lagos, he might have succeeded. |
Well, not by force. If you cannot pay it do not go there. You will at least have the chance to know in advance what their tradition demands. I guess it's even a matter of pride for some grooms to fully provide all that is demanded. If the woman turns out to be great and I do not have to train her siblings in addition, that's fair. |
In bad things, 9ja never disappoints. Always represent. ![]() |
Biglittlelois:OK. If she wanted only missionary and you suddenly do doggy with her, na rape, bah? It cannot be rape in the case of condom BUT it might be bodily harm. Because she didn't want your skin touching her skin intimately, but with a barrier in between. That seems a better legal position in my opinion. Assuming the offender has no reason to believe he has an STD. If he has and knew and yet went ahead raw without consent, then it would be intentional grievous harm. Maybe also causing serious risk to personal & public health. |
TheSuperNerd:I wonder o. Trying to figure out how she thinks a rapist looks like. So if he looked poor, he'd automatically look like a rapist. Sadly rape is common in Nigeria. There is this notion that " I no go gree, I nor go gree, na im woman dey gree put". The belief that a girl saying no does not actually mean no. Therefore lots of men grow up not knowing that if a girl refuses and you still use force to overcome her, it's rape. For many waylaying a girl or forcing a girl unknown to you before is what is rape. There needs to be a better enlightenment of young people. |
So she for like Mandigo manhood. ![]() |
raymondFirstborn:Hmmmmm. I was expecting around 2.5 to 2.6m. Now with finishing, will it include landscaping? As in concreting of compound or just the building? |
Caseless:There are more reasons o. Duke, just like Odili is too ambitious, smart & good-looking too. Duke would have totally overshadowed Yar'Adua. He'd not have been as patient as GEJ when he became ill. After OBJ just narrowly using "monkey sense" to outmaneuver Atiku to secure second term, and thwarting NASS's constant threat in cahoots with Atiku, he could not let any over-ambitious VP for Yar'Adua. Rinsola on the surface has positions in APC, but little power. They should have dangled HoR slot in Ogun to keep her. But I guess Amosun is against it. Something tells me she's doing this with approval from the Lagos faction of APC. I won't be surprised if Tinubu works underground against APC/Buhari in 2019 like he worked against ACN/Ribadu in 2011. If he realizes that forces around Bubu including El-Rufai will likely scuttle his (Tinubu's) chances of clinching presidency in 2023. ![]() |
