People.
The money (while large) isn't even enough to pay salaries for staff in a Nigerian bank for a month.

so much wealth in the midst of so much poverty. Some people are almost eating their children to survive, yet the 1% have so much and more to pass around themselves..
Woe betide any governor that sends Davido any money, who is yet to pay staff salaries.
For the population we have, there's not 'so much' money in Nigeria as people think.

The rich would always exist but even that is relative. 100Nm = ~$180k. A lot of money anywhere, but not enough to cause a frenzy in a country of 180m people.

FamilyRe: Experience Of A Woman Who Was Richer Than Her Husband by Asour:
Amotolongbo:
Give him money to do what?
She can’t just be giving him money for no just reason. She can spend her money on the home, not giving it to her husband.

A man requesting for money from a woman is only trying to trade his pride as the head of the home.

The only time a man should be given money by a woman is when it is needed for a personal and mental development which will bring a fortune to the man and home
I am not in support of 'mordern' equality but Most men on earth earn more than their wives. Even wives that work attest to not spending their monies for things. Many examples abound.

Safra Catz is a US executive & the CEO of Oracle. Over the years, her earnings in stock options has seen her become a Billionaire, with her husband quitting (his job) to be a stay-at -home husband. We don't hear any negative stories from such families despite her earning 500x more than him.

Poverty is just a bane around here & I sincerely understand their plight.

Moreso, there's no such thing as 'Ambition' in Nigeria if the Money doesn't start coming in in 1- 2 years. In Nigeria, often to others your efforts can never make you ambitious, just results.

Besides what's the meaning of Emotional abuse. I hear that a lot. Is it a synonym for quarrels?
PoliticsRe: Lekki Massacre: HURIWA Calls For Lai Mohammed’s Sack, Prosecution by Asour: 8:42pm On Nov 16, 2021
Chapii:
I am not and can never be a Fan of Tinubu, Lai or Buhari and I agree largely with the report of the Panel but the entire reportage is not balanced.

The government of the day - LASG and FG (IG of Police) did not manage the entire EndSars protest professionally. The brute force that was used to disperse the protest at Lekki toll gate was the only option left for the Government at that point in time and these are my reasons.
1. Why is nobody reporting that the government allowed the protest to last for over 2 weeks in lagos, Abuja and several other cities meaning that the govt. recognizes the right to protest.
2. Why is nobody talking about how the protest at the toll gate gave birth to many other protest sites in several parts of lagos and was making normal life unbearable for other citizens due to road blocks and all.
3. Why is nobody talking about how the protest have degenerated into a crisis situation with prison break, burning of Police stations, killing of police men, looting and destruction etc. As at 7pm of 20.10.20, over 30 police stations in Lagos was on fire and several policemen killed.
Last but not the least, the people that were at the lekki toll gate protest venue at the time of arrival of the military cannot be said to be law abiding. They were defying a government imposed curfew which is to take effect by 4pm that day.
Citizens have all right to protest but the government should also be up and doing in managing the overall security situation in the communities. My 2 cents
Your intentions are pure & nice but you are addressing issues in a cart-before-the -horse-manner.

I'm totally against Protest myself but a country mired in Injustices is sitting on a Keg of gun powder.

Why ? Because the Government handled the issue
Lightly. They claimed that SARS had been disbanded but SARS officers were still operating in South south during that same period. Lies/deceit.

Don't even get me started about the Nigerian police. You say Policemen were killed even if you don't know a name but Nigerian paramilitary (especially the Police) murder citizens unjustly every month. Did you not read about the CSP Okafor story in Anambra?

Lekki protestersdisregard (I am against not obeying constituted authority) for government rules was bound to happen. It was just a matter of time.
Lastly, you should not justify an action as if there was only one way out. The way the government dispersed the Lekki protesters WAS NOT the ONLY way to go. Suggesting it was is to admit leadership incompetence.

God help us.

I couldn't vote. I wanted to vote Jonathan. I stood in long queues for hours for several days trying to get my PVC. I still couldn't. Many people didn't get theirs. Meanwhile small northern boys who do scrap metal business near my place were receiving calls from their friends and relatives in the North to come and collect their PVC's which the said relatives have collected from INEC. I, a grown man, could not get mine in the South. In the North, small boys were being begged to collect theirs. INEC officers went from house to house to deliver voters card to people, including relatives of actual owners of the cards in the north. Prof Jega dealt with the south. He disenfranchised us and gave Mr Buhari victory
Your personal claims are yours but they are disconnected from your conclusions.

If Jega 'dealt' with the South in 2015, why did he not 'deal' with the South only in 2011. why only in 2015?

In 2011 the same Jega presided over an election in which the Northerners voted the same way .

Guess what ? The Northern 'winner' lost! Even with their small children voting, they still lost.
Therefore your claims (that Jega caused Buhari to win) are untrue.

GEJ lost the elections due to the SW not voting for him in 2015 as they did in 2011. The rest of the country voted in almost the same pattern between the 2 years.

My point is: The North cannot win Presidential elections alone. No single tribe can in Nigeria.

Thanks.

My point is that people like Alex reports syndicate their media content through nairaland & other platforms to widen his reach.

Wow tribalism @ death? No nah!

Not that it's a good statistic but more northern soldiers/people have died & are homeless from BH than Southerners. Also more senior military men of northern extraction. You can observe this from the news.

BH has been more terror to the north than any other part. No need for tribal tensions.

FamilyRe: What's So Special About Getting Married? by Asour: 6:07pm On Nov 12, 2021
dchem:
You have not married before and therefore not really in a position to speak about the specialty of marriage. Allow the married or divorced ones answer. All you are saying are either what you perceive, heard or watched, and not what you experienced.

Marriage for me is special as it gives me a sense of purpose. Also when I am down I have someone I can confide in and she listens to me. Marriage is special for those of us who are not selfish. Truly its not a compulsory affair as not everyone can stay married. Like everything in life marriage also has its challenges but that does not in anyway invalidate its specialty.

The major thing Op should be concerned about is to marry for the right reasons. Then it becomes special. My first requirement for marriage is marry him or her if she possess something no other person can give you. Sex, food, beauty can be gotten from so many a place but you see "peace, purpose, companionship etc. They are rare. Once you marry for the right reason and also understand what marriage truly is I am sure it will remain special for ever.

I have been married for 5 years now with 2 kids and truly I would marry my wife over and over again.
Even the "marriage" don't necessarily have a greater edge here (they have a slight edge but not much). Why? Because their experiences, good or bad is a single data point. In statistics, that hardly enough to make useful decisions.

Marriage is great, God instituted it but I am afraid it involves sacrifices & responsibilities to have it great. And even that's no guarantee with an uncompromising partner!

No choice is bad. Everyone can make theirs without discounting others' choices.
FamilyRe: What's So Special About Getting Married? by Asour:
Hathor5:
You have described the stress that comes with having very young children and not with marriage as such.

But kids grow! In my brother's house the three kids who are all in primary school prepare their breakfast alone. Their parents teach them how to take care of themselves and there is no longer 'I want this, I don't like this'. My brother enjoys his coffee. grin

And when you ask him what makes him happy, he will tell you that it is his family. They are currently considering having a fourth child.

If it was that bad, they would not. They aren't mad.

Different strokes ...
Obviously some would have great experiences in life's endeavours like marriage.
Moreso, it is that which gives us much hassle that makes us the happier. Jobs, family, Business, Professions. Why? Because we would have avoided the hassle if we didn't find it beneficial/important.

It's arguable but I don't really think anyone can truly assess whether another's marriage is happy.
Marriage is not perceptible vicariously. Only the parties know best.

Marriage is great, otherwise God would not have instituted it. However any venture that involves sharing concensus, views, permissions & responsibilities with other parties (a spouse) can soon become a hassle. Since it creates friction of 'another' interfering in your 'space'.

Corinthians 7:28

But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Masters Scholarship Program With ₦200k Allowance In Russia, ₦500k Job In Nigeria by Asour:
Joey4321:
Hello guys, So this thing has been bothering me for quite a while now and I would like to have someone else's idea on it.

In my mid 20's currently undergoing a masters program at a Russian University (Somewhere around Moscow). Online because of the pandemic. The masters is a full scholarship with a little stipend calculated by your grades.
Now the borders are open and I have the opportunity of being there physically. Its kind of mandatory right now even. The scholarship is supposed to last 2 years with a mandatory third year where you will have to work for the school as payment for your scholarship. While studying you get paid, little money though, lets say 200k in conversion to naira. While working (On your third year) you also get paid but this depends on the role you interviewed for and your skill level. The masters is in Data Science and that is also my field.

But the only problem now is I just got a really good job here in the country that pays lets say about half a million. With my current projections, I could level up a bit more and settle down in 2 years

Now this current amount is more than what I will get paid in Russia both as a student or as a worker for the next 3 years (According to my projection). However, the school will cover accommodation, so the stipends are just for feeding, coffee, movies and dates, etc.

Do you think the masters is worth me giving up such a opportunity in Nigeria for the abroad?

In a nutshell, do you think having a foreign masters certificate is worth it?
Is your school HSE university or St Petersburg state University or Moscow state University?

I guess Open doors scholarship.

With a Data science degree, you should continue.
These schools are top notch & can be a springboard to getting bjobs in UK or Europe generally. (The UK has a new Technical Visa Initiative).

The naira is deflated so weigh your chances severally— especially since you can earn in foreign currencies. And I don't mean Moscow alone.

Would like to ask you some questions about studying in Moscow if you don't mind.
