godstino: UPDATE!!! Thanks to everyone that contributed to this thread. I started learning french from Ao when I posted this comment. Took the exam in my 5th month of learning but didn’t get the desired B2 in the CO. Took the exam again in the 7th month and God did his thing! Special thanks to @Cooooooks for recommending vite et bien, the book actually made me love french. I would be writing a detailed breakdown of my study path later. Quel score! Félicitations !! This is highly encouraging, I know because it has encouraged me also. It can definitely be done. Please do share the detailed breakdown as soon as you can. Success on your upcoming IELTS exam. I know you'll ace it! |

prettyamebo: Has anyone learnt French from scratch and written TEF in the space of 10 months and passed? If yes, how did you go about learning French? I need help, don't know where to start from. I haven't, still learning. But there is a TEF thread here on nairaland chock full of information (books, articles) and encouragement. There is someone that did it in 6 months. It requires huge committment. You will need guidance in the first few months in the form of a teacher though. |

Bonjour à tous. Not sure if it has been posted here, but AF Lagos has started organising TCF exams also. So instead of travelling down to Port Harcourt, it's at AF's Lagos centre.

Odogwuphil95: I am still a beginner, I was thinking If having extra hours of Learning with another institute will help? Just my thoughts tho,(two months into the process tho I understand. At this point, you need to get the basics down pat. An AF teacher should be doing this well enough. But I believe IEF allows you to start a class before paying, you should be able to ask questions as you'd like, I'm not too sure. Or you can take a class for a month to see how it's like. |

BeatriceM1: Please how was it, give us expo na Well, the time was just enough. You have to be quick. The first set of questions - reasoning. You'll be given statements, choose how implicit it is. The second- reasoning again but with letters. You basically have to find patterns with the letters. E.g ABC, DEF, ..., JKL. Not this simple of course, but I hope you get it. The third was numbers. I advise you do the above sets quickly so you have time for this. Multiplication sets, number theory (not too hard)... Each set had 5 questions or 6. Like a poster above said, if you're familiar with the concept of cognitive tests, you'll be ok. Good luck! |

Odogwuphil95: Bonjour à tous, Please is there anyone that has attended online class here with IEF, if yes how’s there online classes like, is it worth giving a trial, I already have a private French tutor from AF, please my friends on this platforms Ur suggestion will be greatly appreciated, Merci. I did have online classes with them for a few months. Their classes are ok, especially if you're a beginner and want to gain a foothold with french. As you progress, especially to intermediate levels, you may want classes tailored to meet the 4 compétences elsewhere, especially speaking and writing. If you have a private teacher from AF that sounds super already! Why do you want someone else? |

Gmajor: Hope her price won't cut off my head Do you have previous french learning experience or are you a total beginner? If so like the poster above said, it isn't cheap to teach someone, you're paying for their "expertise" and time. Learning solo as a beginner can be a recipe for haphazard learning and a disaster, thus, some people recommend schools like Alliance Française and IEF. I would recommend IEF(not in any way affiliated to them) to give that foundation, they have classes completely online and have competitive prices. Their number is on this thread, you can search to find it. Lastly, the teacher can only do as well as the student allows. Most of the work will be done by you outside of class. There will be little to no shortcuts. You must put in the work. If you have other questions don't hesitate to ask Bonne chance. |

ceecia: I started intensive physical classes at Alliance Française in January 2021 till August 2021. I did A1-B1.2 there and left for physical classes at IEF because I decided to start preparing for TEF. I had hoped to write TEF in December 2021, however, I opted for DELF to have a taste of what a French exam will be like. I wasn't ready to throw away 210k for TEF just yet.
I finished my classes at IEF in December then I basically started having online speaking classes as I wasn't sure when I would be writing the exam. I was too scared to sit for the exam and end up failing. My tutor is a native speaker and he's really good.
Fast forward to May 2022, I decided to do TEF in ending of June so I started an online TEF class with IEF. Just when the class was rounding up and I was ready to register, the exam was suspended. I immediately had to switch to TCF. My TEF classes helped a little but the exam structure is quite different. So from July to August, I went back to my private tutor to help me with speaking and writing aspect while for listening, I kept listening to podcasts on RFI and French movies.
Concerning my experience with the exams. From my point of view, the listening aspect of TCF is the hardest because you hear the recording once and that's it. The other aspects, reading is fairly easier because there are short texts and compared to TEF that have Shakespeare type of texts (sometimes I don't understand anything). As for writing, you'd have to practice writing three different rédactions in 1 hour. Speaking was also fairly easy( you can scale through with much practice) The first question is present yourself. People often say learn French, learn French, if only they truly understand the struggle and sacrifice. You deserve every one of those extra points Thanks for responding. I'd like to ask a question. I left you an email. Thank you. |

That's terrible. Did you go through the cours?I have a relative going through their course, has done the care courses, and has started the ATHE course but not paid for it. What would you advise as a course of progression? Lastly, what's the name of the certification given? Thank you! |

Afolavid: Yeah, that's right. Seems like the increment of 250 ITAs is the standard now, so next draw is gonna be 2500 ITAs, only if they could pump this ITA out. Fingers crossed sha True this. The internal memo leaked at the beginning of the year alluded to that. If the number of ITAs can climb to 3500 as per pre-pandemic levels, that'd be great... the main issue is the addition of new profiles above 500, most seem to be clumped at the 500-520 point, I wonder how they'll clear these, they'll probably use the tie breaking rule. I wish we can see the exact distribution of scores in the 500-600 range. |
