Oh dear!! Nigeria failed you Leah... We failed you... Being kidnapped and held in only God knows conditions wasn't enough, the terrorists had to forcefully marry you off to one of theirs, most likely raped you & now you're forced to become mother to a child you probably never wanted. What a life May God punish Boko Haram and their sponsors. |
The North unfortunately, is reaping what it sowed. The downturn is it'll mostly affect the downtrodden, vulnerable, innocent, generations unborn & even have a spillover effect on other parts of the country. May the security agencies rescue those abducted alive & give their abductors a slow but painful exit. |
Timmyspy:Ok. Motherboard confirmed in good condition. Let me know how this works. Cheers. |
When the issue of Goodness and A.B.U came up, many, who should've based their arguments on facts presented or merits/demerits of the case, decided to turn it into an ethno-religious matter for obvious reasons. Now, the argument is sort of balanced & no one is bringing up the candidate's ethnicity or religion into the matter; if the situation had been different, we all know the direction majority would've gone with their argument. |
Timmyspy:I don't know if the motherboard is ok as that would be determined by a phone technician but I'll find that out ASAP. |
OnPointMan:Lol. True. That's why the thing no too pain me only that it packed up at a time I least expected & was broke. But that particular incident taught me a valuable lesson; no more patronage of relatively unknown & new entrant mobile phones. |
I'm on this table. Towards end of 2017, bought this seemingly "cheap" phone Oukitel K6000+ (nice specs with very good battery) for N22,000 inclusive shipping. Sometime last year the phone just shutdown & all efforts to bring it back to life failed as most technicians I took the phone to didn't have the software. Forgot to mention that the phone dropped & had a cracked screen, which was still working except the fingerprint scan until it suddenly shut down. Even getting the screen replaced locally was a problem as it was unavailable in shops. The phone is somewhere I don't even know again sef ![]() |
Elzak:I read all the responses to your submission & it's obvious, all didn't bother to read the news item, read it but couldn't comprehend or read & decided just to remain in ignorance. From the report & evidences allegedly tabled before the JAMB boss, the lady in question wasn't denied admission to study medicine based on "quota" as some have claimed but merit; that much was confirmed by Prof. Oloyede who said A.B.U gave admission to the best two candidates to study the course based on merit. From Niger, based on the average scores, the lady came third (by JAMB score, she obviously is the highest from her state but when the Post-UTME scores are factored in, she is third). |
EFCC's modus operandi will never cease to baffle me. I mean, the ex-AGF/Justice Minister had reportedly been on the anti-graft commission's radar for a long time & one would've believed that during the period he stayed away from the country, all the investigations on his alleged corrupt deeds while in office would've been concluded & evidences needed to build a solid case for conviction in court would've been gathered too but they still have to keep him in custody for 14 days?? Meanwhile, for those trying to turn this thread into a tribal disco, can y'all just stopeeeet already? For Pete's sake, Adoke is from Benue State & in the eyes of the law, presumed innocent until proven guilty. |
It's sad really that the young lady didn't get admitted to study the course of her dreams. But what's even more saddening is reading responses from those who have no idea how A.B.U works to use this opportunity to expose their preconceived ethno-religious biases. There's no perfect university anywhere on earth but it's also not a hidden fact that A.B.U is the most cosmopolitan public university in Nigeria. EMDIEY: |
abusurv:Wow!! You say 20 years ago?? Didn't even realise the practice went as far back. E don tey wey people don dey scramble to enter A.B.U be dat. |
That's another factor some institutions take into consideration but knowing A.B.U if she was below the age limit, she wouldn't even be offered any admission at all, let alone, Human Anatomy. crazygod: |
If you're ignorant of the fact that candidates that pick any University as "first choice" while filling their UTME forms are eligible to write Post-UTME of such varsities - whether they're from the "catchment areas" or not, it means my response is way above your level of understanding. gaskiyamagana: |
Read most of the responses to this story & majority spoke from an emotional point of view - which is understandable - considering how religion and ethnic jingoism have taken centre stage in present day Nigeria. However, anyone who is very familiar with the admission process in A.B.U (I speak now as one who was born, bred & educated within the vicinity of that citadel of learning, not as an "uninformed" commentator) will tell you straight up that while "catchment area" (a policy the President has directed should be abolished forthwith, don't know if the institution adhered to it) plays a great role in securing admission especially if you're from the "core" northern states, meritocracy is also a contributing factor. It's on the basis of the latter that I suspect Miss Goodness didn't secure admission to study the course of her choice. Before you get me wrong, let me explain further; the young lady had very good UTME/Post-UTME scores as well as excellent grades in O'levels according to the author but for someone who comes from Kogi - which is a catchment area - trust me when I say her grades/scores probably paled in comparison to other candidates from the state who applied to study medicine. Anyone who knows will tell you for free that candidates from Kogi State applying for admission into A.B.U are the most competitive & probably hold the largest number of applicants. In fact, due to the clamour to gain admission into A.B.U. many applicants from states in the Southwest (outside the "catchment area" now claim Kogi (similarly in names between Yoruba & Okun peoples) to help brighten their chances. And many of these "acquired" indigenes have very good scores/grades too, thereby, swelling the ranks of those seeking admission into A.B.U from the state. In contrast, other less "intelligent" candidates from the state, due to the stiff competition, have in turn acquired "certificate of indigene" from other "core" northern states (similarity in names as well especially when it's not a tribal one e.g the names Khadijat Yusuf or Abdullahi Mohammed can be borne by any northerner or Igala/Ebira/Okun Muslim without telling the difference their real states of origin) to help increase their chances of admission. Finally, Miss Goodness may not have gotten admission to study Medicine & Surgery, she's perhaps fortunate because she could've been flung to "far away" Faculty of Sciences to study Biological Sciences or even Biochemistry or whatever they're called these days. It's a good thing she's still within the Faculty of Medicine (or is it now a college? Not sure anymore) & if she's still determined to study Medicine, the experience & additional knowledge she'll gain in her first year as a student of Human Anatomy would've prepared her to retake her UTME/POST-UTME & earn very high scores (higher than what she initially scored) that even if she hails from Mars, those in the admission's office will have no choice but to offer her the admission. |
I've discovered a long time ago to just read & pass on some comments coz to reply is a waste of time. The person sat in their house, office or wherever & concluded a man, who was clearly favourite to win re-election (with all the intra-party squabbles that plagued Malam's opponent's political party) didn't win and even has the temerity to bring God into the matter. Someone who actually knows how Banire was appointed has spoken. As at the time the ex-national legal adviser of the APC was appointed, BAT was never in support coz he'd a well publicised spat with Banire & far as I know, they've not reconciled. The same way people saw the non-renewal of Fowler's tenure as FIRS Chairman as a spite to Tinubu is the same way they're interpreting this particular action of the President but anyone who knows will tell you both men's appointments in the first place, was without the blessings of the ex-Lagos governor. fyneguy: |

To know more about Coconut value chain, you should join National Association of Coconut Producers, Processors & Marketers Association of Nigeria (NACOPPMAN). That's the umbrella body for coconut-related stuffs in Nigeria & only one recognised by FG. |

DeNovo:The thing weak me... The way OBJ is being mystified, he may just have a say in who becomes the next U.S President. |
OBJ this, OBJ that. I thought they said he's "expired milk", therefore, has no clout?? Why is his name a recurring decimal in an election he's not a contestant? |
How oo?? Good morning. |

The "contaminated" bottle
|
Hello NLers & compliments of the season. I am not sure if this should fall under the food or health section but considering the inherent dangers, I chose the latter with the belief that if in the inappropriate section, the Mods can help do the needful. So, some few hours ago, I went to SPAR at Wuse 2, Abuja to get some few things for Christmas, among them, bottles of Star lager beer. Soon as I got home and began to unpack, I noticed something unusual about one of the bottles: its content was discoloured and quite a number of particles were swimming inside. Shocked, I quickly checked the cork to see if it was intact, it was. So was the seal around the cork/neck area of the bottle. I checked the other bottles to be sure, the difference was clear, indicating this particular bottle had been contaminated most likely during production. This season of eating, drinking & giving, we should be extremely cautious and inspect whatever goes into our mouths (expiry date, NAFDAC number, contents, etc). I hope Nigerian Breweries - makers of Star - and management of SPAR look into this with a view to preventing a reoccurrence. |
Can't imagine what OP is going through especially with the difficulty finding a brainbox compatible with your Corolla. Hopefully, you'll find a lasting solution soon. Meanwhile, I've got a 2010 GL550 4Matic for sale. |
The lady was still trying to justify her action/blame the driver for an error that has now been established, was clearly technical and therefore, not his fault. Rather than go on and on about how what he did was wrong & how she was taken for a fool, one would've expected a sober and more repentant response accompanied with an apology - public and private - but alas, Miss Grace is just who she is; an entitled, uncouth and proud lady, who doesn't know how/when to apologize even after her faults have been pointed out. |
