Why should they be shut down though? They haven't broken any laws or done anything illegal. Everything they do is covered by the laws of the countries wherein they operate.
Yankee101: The mistake you're making is 1. Talking like you have an agenda or stake in PP coming here 2. Thinking that they are the only organization that can save Nigeria. We do not lack NGOs in Nigeria. In fact we have too many covering all aspects of human issues. Did you hear me rail against PEPFAR or AGOA from the same US? Nope. Let's increase access and funding for existing ones but not PPH. I'll just call someone in Government after elections and I'll ask for them to be shut down.
Internationlly they work with only colored communities. Why are oyinbos in Eastern Europe not welcoming them?

Yankee101: Lol. Despite reading her very letter in black and white you still won't believe?
The caller intentionally did it to contrast that his white babies needed a better world of opportunites without the black babies.
When faced with evidence people like you still argue blindly.
If more than 100million Americans say PP is not good for them, why should 190m Nigerians accept it? We already have NACA and other orgs working on reproductive health. Fund them to expand their menu and coverage. We don't want PP in Nigeria.
Bro, don't drink the kool aid of right-wing hate against PP. Look into it objectively and you'll see that they are doing a lot of good work both in the US and in Nigeria. We definitely need them to help plan better families and a better society.
Yankee101: 1. Founders thought process ......"......We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members"
Run Google searches or YouTube. There's too much material
This is what I was concerned about. There is a lot of misunderstanding about what PP really does and the history of the founder Margaret Sanger. That quote is totally taken out of context. It just shows that the misinformation about PP targeting black communities has existed for a long time and she was just saying they need to train preachers and ministers in the black communities to help them correct the misinformation.
She had some controversial views but there is no evidence that she was ever a racist or tried to exterminate black babies.
To the YouTube video, I listened to the call and it's clear that the man who made the call did not explicitly come out to say he wanted to kill black babies. The way he framed it, the donation was to help fund an abortion for a minority woman who could not afford one.
Abortions are very expensive in US and because of the Hyde Amendment they cannot be subsidized by govt funds. That means that all the money that goes towards abortions in the states must come from private pockets. PP relies on donations for a lot of their work and if somebody calls to say I want to make a donation to help a poor black woman afford an abortion that she herself has willingly chosen to do then there is nothing wrong with that. Remember that abortions are totally legal clinical procedures in the US.
Yankee101: I moved it to the US to shine light on their origin, antecedents and insidious activities. While documented proof exists, you seem to toe the liberal narrative that the history of the org is a lie, diminishing facts and encouraging abortions openly in a country that bans it.
A donor put through a call recently and asked to donate toward the specific killing of black babies. Guess how they answered.
Can you give any hard evidence of your assertions that:
1. PP is encouraging abortions in a country that bans it. I assume you're talking about Nigeria. Show documented evidence that they are promoting abortions here.
2. A donor specifically wanted to fund the killing of black babies and PP went along with it. Show evidence that this alleged incident actually happened.
If you are unable to substantiate these specific claims you have made on this forum then you will stand guilty of propagating falsehoods on the internet. I see no reason to believe anything you say on this matter if you cannot prove those claims you have made.
I know, I already said that. You moved the discussion over to the US by introducing the fact that you live there not in Nigeria. I'm very familiar with the context of birth control and abortion policy in the US as well. Whether you are a liberal or not, we can all do with more open-mindedness and empathy on this issue. It is not always black and white, and procuring an abortion anywhere does not make someone a bad person.
Yankee101: I live in the US. Maybe you do not know the role it played in exterminating the black population during jim crow and that it is almost always located in poor black communities. I don't know how much uou think you know
I lived in the US for a few years and I'm very familiar with the work of Planned Parenthood and the story of their founder Margaret Sanger. The idea that PP targeted black folks for extermination during the Jim Crow era is a lie. It's false slander spread by the enemies of the group who blame them for everything related to abortion even though only 3% of their expenditure goes into abortion related activities.
By the way, abortion is a totally legal clinical procedure in the US according to federal law ruled on and affirmed by the Supreme Court. PP and other abortion providers do not force any woman to have an abortion, the choice is up to the women. The number one reason why some women choose to have an abortion is due to financial constraints which make them unable to raise a child. There are other reasons including medical causes.
If you have a problem with abortions you would focus on the improvement of social conditions and the provision of birth control so that there are no unwanted babies in the first place. It is pointless to deny women in the US their constitutional rights to have an abortion if they so choose.
Most of the services provided by Planned Parenthood have nothing to do with abortions. They provide contraceptives particularly the long lasting implants and IUCDs. They also provide screening and treatment for STIs. People like you are the type that will criticize a poor family for having too many children, yet when an international NGO comes in to provide subsidized access to family planning you will still complain. Abortions are not yet legal in Nigeria so they will not be providing that particular service.
Yankee101: What is planned parenthood doing in Nigeria?
They are in Nigeria to help Nigerians plan their families. This country is in a population explosion crisis, their services are very much needed right now.
I have been spending quite sometime on this forum recently, TBH, it has been informative, entertaining & quite educative.
I am presently in a dilemma and I need urgent input from experienced NLers, I believe we have experienced career people here that must have gone through what am going through at the moment.
I got a job about 6months ago, its quite a good job, thanks to Nairaland job section, on resumption I notice there was a total overhaul of my dept, all former staff were fired and we were employ to replace them. I resume same day with my Dept Manager two months later a junior officer was employ to join us.
I have had a fantastic relationship with my manager the past six months, and we are in good terms, we drive home together everyday, we chat, have quality conversation, even lunch together etc. but am really becoming worried about something else....
My manger seems to take credit for all my work, he somehow deny me opportunity to prove my worth to top management. Now I will give you a typical instance.
Whenever our GMD comes around, there is always a meeting with one rep from each dept. not neccessarily the departmental head, in his absence am suppose to represent the department, he denies me of opportunity like this.
He has on many occassions deny my opportunity to meet the GMD on job related issues, when the GMD needs to see someone from my dept. or sign some documents even in his absence, he either call me to handover documents to the GMD secretary or send an office assistant to drop the document.
Furthermore, on resumption, I noticed the coy still run their account dept manually, an accounting software was introduce, a software i have used for years, which he (my Manager) is not familiar with, though after the software was deploy, we were trained, even after the training he seems not to know his way around the software interface, i single handedly automated all historial data for the previous 2yrs, and my manager took the credit at the magt meetings. Without even mentioning my name, its really annoying.
I am totally pissed right not cos, he just got a pay rise courtesy to the successful deployment and automation of the accounting system, which he knows absolutely nothing about, which i singledhandedly, paintstakingly work on for over 6months even investing my Saturdays.
The above is one instance out of so many.
I expect a manager to represent work done my the department he manages as "WE in so & so dept" I have overheard him many times using "I".
He personally ask me not to pass any dept info to mgt staff member, and all enquiries should be refered to him. I feel he doesnt want me to shine.
I need advise from fellow NLers who have gone through similar situation.
This is not really going well with me.
My brother I feel your pain. However, you need to understand that your boss is doing what bosses are supposed to do. They're there to take credit for the work of subordinates, that is how corporate structure works.
Everything you did under him as far as the company is concerned you did it through him, whether that is actually true or not is irrelevant.
It's obvious that you're ambitious and want to advance quickly. Luckily, you said you have a good relationship with your manager. My advice is that you leverage that relationship and exercise a great deal of patience as you wait for your turn.
Approach him for mentorship, play humble and tell him you would like to learn from him. When he feels more secure with you and convinced that you are on his side, he will gradually expose you to opportunities to work directly with upper management.
Ghana re-denominated their currency a few years ago and removed two zeros from it. The 120 cedis she's talking about is actually 12,000 cedis technically. But other than that she is right, Ghana is leaving naija in the dust very quickly.
ogtavia: So what will be the essence of spending millions on a venture that will be effective only 75 years later?
This Oga doesn't seem smart. I don't think the oyinbo man thinks that way. And nobody is talking about clone but face swapping..Oga should get his facts right.
LivingDead: done that already above. The way out is what i seek
I think you need to a psychiatrist asap. On a serious note, regardless of the medical issues you may be facing, the losses you have experienced have pushed you into deep depression. You're in a cycle of learned helplessness and you need help to break that cycle otherwise nothing will change.
gare: How can you say Nigeria is still Nigeria under PMB, have you forgotten the infamous 97% and 5% , it all starts gradually.
PMB goofed with the 97% vs 5% comment. In a democracy, a president must be the president of all the people whether they voted for him or not. But that comment is not a sign of fascism. He criticized the SE for not voting for him and the people of the SE criticized him back. There is freedom of opinion, freedom of association and freedom of speech for both sides. Under fascism nobody dares criticize the leader in any way and live to talk about it. The fact that you and I can even openly debate this issue online is enough evidence that there is nothing like fascism here. P.S. We are getting ready to hold multi party elections next year and you're talking about fascism. In fascist countries there is only one party. Whether they like it or not the citizens must follow that one party only.
gare: do you know more than him ? Fascism is a form of radical authoritarian ultra-nationalism, characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and strong regimentation of society, are we not seeing all those in Nigeria today.
There is nothing fascistic by definition about this government. Even during the military era we didn't have fascism then not to talk of now. Nigeria is too diverse a country to ever come under fascism. It requires a willing subjugation of the citizenry to one common identity defined by the ruling authorities. It's impossible in Nigeria for that to happen. You can claim Buhari is dictatorial and you may have a point, but fascism has a very precise definition. Fascism made Germany a Nazi country under Hitler. It made Italy a nationalist country under Mussolini. But Nigeria is still Nigeria under Buhari we have not assumed one singular national identity.
Buhari and the APC represented ‘fascism' Is this not the same guy who's PRP didn't field a presidential candidate and backed mr. Lifeless? ? This dude is the most politically barren looser to ever emerge from the north, heck, Sowore is more popular than him here in Kaduna. . .
It's very obvious that you have no idea what fascism means. Clueless.
Nelbless: I write this with tears in my heart.... and almost a confused mind.
I recently met woman back in August this year who is also in my line of work, oil and gas......she is a Nigerian/Canadian as I learnt just last night, mixed root.
at first I was captivated by her stunning beauty/drive for excellence.....before I knew it we both had clicked .....understanding each other very well.
she is a Sagittarius and am a leo......meaning we both in some ways shares same thing in common 'workaholics/honest/generous'
I was helplessly in love with her....
NOTE: SHE RESIDES IN ABUJA WITH HER PARENTS WHILE AS AT WHEN WE MET ONLINE I WAS IN LUXEMBOURG HOLIDAYING.....CAME IN RECENTLY AND HAD SCHEDULED OUR FIRST MEETING COME 23RD NOV BEING HER BIRTHDAY.
Having shared her odeal with men and how she was abused by her last fiance for years and her resolve never to date again.......upon my recommendation she began taking classes that would help her mindset on men as she hates men atleast i suspected.
now we both are deeply in love..... HOWEVER LAST NIGHT WHILE ON PHONE I SHARED MY AGE WITH HER (34) AND GOT THE SHOCKER OF MY LIFE WHEN I HEARD HER SAY SHE IS (45)!!!!
I COULDNT BELIEVE MY EARS COS SHE LOOKED WAY YOUNGER THAN THAT AGE ..........
AM CONFUSED.....
I know hence I love her am meant to overlook her age and etc.....but this lady is authoritative and rude though I cautions her from time to time , bug then I fear if I proceed with this I might be her puppy above all am just confused.
PLEASE I NEED SEASONED ADVICE FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN IN SAME POSITIONS.
WHAT ARE THE CONS AND PROS IN THIS SITUATION!
AM 35 ....SHE IS 45!!!
Are you sure that's her real age? Maybe she's lying to you as some sort of test. Whatever the case if you love her as you claim to, why not date her for a few months and see what she's really about. A lot of the issues you have with her may be her defense mechanisms against being hurt again as she has been in the past.
TRUSTEDGUY: Are you from Nigeria ? Where are the honest work? Are you sure we do not have the highest unemployment rate in Africa?
Even if it's the highest unemployment rate in the whole world, many people are still doing honest work here in Nigeria. The problem is that most Nigerians want to start earning big money right away, but it doesn't work like that anywhere. If you're ready to start very small there is plenty to do.
People please don't be adding someone as a beneficiary to your payment app when you're only making a one time payment to them. It defeats the entire purpose and makes mistakes like this more likely to happen. Just enter the account details once and forget it. OP sorry for your loss I hope you'll be able to get your money back.
TRUSTEDGUY: Nigeria image aboard is really negative God save us. Foreign countries see us as liabilities rather than assets.
We should be assets to our own country first before we can be assets anywhere else. The average Nigerian is a liability to Nigeria. Unwilling to play by the rules and do honest work. Always looking for a shortcut to success.
He started his campaign on a foul and deceptive note as usual. Nigerians are tired of emotional campaign strategy. He claimed to be from a very poor background when in the actual fact he attended Corona School and then proceeded to an American University. How deceptive? A lot of us here went to public schools from Primary to secondary and tertiary.
A leader should be truthful at all times. Until he acknowledges his privileged background and hinges his campaign on a more philosophical ground rather than the usual deceptive sentiments, Nigerian Youths would not identify with him.
Shalom!
Where did he claim to come from a poor background? I doubt he could have said that cos everybody knows that he comes from a rich family.
