Just like I appreciate that, some people won't.

I think it will come down to the location of the build and the type of tenants you could attract.

I am not familiar with the area you intend to build, but in certain locations, open concept will be a no no because people are still loving the conventional style.. the defacto style.

But in some locations , prospective tenants will be happy with that, because they understand that type of architecture and do appreciate it.

If I may add one more thing, open concept is not for folks with too many friends that visit often and like to throw party left and right. So open concept won't really fly if the build is around campus and you intend to rent to students.

I know of Heat extractor but na Nigeria we dey,24/7light is not assured to powered the Heat extractor.

Open the kitchen window to bring in fresh air while you are working your magic in the kitchen.

I do like the open floor plan myself but I was advised against it in commercial build because they said folks won't appreciate the idea.

You apparently don't know anything in Politics. APC will need the Southwest to win next presidential election. Tinubu is the Leader of the Southwest and wherever he points the Southwest follows.

APC needs Tinubu to win.

Remember, Tinubu does not have SW in his pocket when OBJ is there.. Tinubu have lots of clout in SW politics and so does OBJ.

So if Tinubu is interested in securing the bloc, he needs OBJ to fight in his corner.. just like they say, when two elephants fight, the ground suffers.. if OBJ and Tinubu are on the opposite end, by the time Tinubu expends his energy to fight him off, other candidates are busy working other zones.

Also remember OBJ have some love in SS,and up north, SE don't really dislike him like that.. I would think OBJ have more influence in SE than Tinubu.

If I have to paraphrase you here, anything can happen any time.

What if war breaks out in Nigeria today? Will you carry your duplex and your Benz for head enter plane to Japa outside the country?

This is bittersweet.

Sweet that they are atleast back home safely to their families..
Bitter that they are back to square.. even if the war ends the next second.. school might not resume anything this year.

Some do have little properties be it some personal possessions car, etc.. all those are gone in smoke.. ( I hope they have insurance tho) but the process to get the claim through will be very tedious..

But all in all.. Thank God for their lives.

I am 36years old. Many years ago after NYSC, I have no Juicy paying Job that can enable me to marry. I was in a relationship with Ugochi from when she was 20 until 28.
Age was not on her side so I being a nobleman advised her to go ahead and marry one wealthy middle-aged man 41, that was asking for her hand in marriage.

The pressure to marry him was too much from her friends and family. I had no juicy Job, could barely eat, pay bills and have a chance to even drink and buy clothing.

I had to make sacrifices for her, so 5 days to her wedding, we agreed in unison to meet for farewell and farewell F@@k.With frustration and Heavy heart I ca..me deep inside her Four times. Gave her money for drugs (White quinine or postinor 2), she rejected it and promised to take care of it herself. I went to her wedding, eat, wished her well and left. Cried all night and moved on.

Her hubby took her to Abuja.

Now I have a good job. I am building my house and I have a car. I am extremely comfortable now.

I got a call earlier this year and it was Ugochi. She was desperate to see me.
she travelled down to Lagos to see me.
I wasn't comfortable so I talked her out of coming to my house. We met at an eatery and she came with one handsome little boy.
I ordered Food for them and then my biggest fear came.
She said her husband found out the baby is not his and sent her packing.
She informed me the baby is mine.

I was shocked and I had to tell her I am squatting with someone, She and xxxxxxxx left for Imo State but before then, I denied and I argued, I went defensive.

The problem I have now is that I am planning my traditional wedding in August 2022 I have a presentable fiancee I love way too much.

Now, I can lie to the world but I can't lie to myself. That Little boy looks like me and has my pointed nose. Facially, it is glaring He is mine but I don't love Ugochi again, I have moved on. I love my fiancee so much.

How can I handle this situation?

Well, the did have been done.. I am not here to judge anyone.. God will take care of that.

But, you didn't tell us what Ugochi want.. she brought a little boy to you..okay.. now what??

Is she trying to make you marry her?, or she is just informing you about your son just in case?

Does ugochi have a job? Is she self employed?

First as ask her what she want and go from there..

If she needs financial support because she doesn't have any job.. since you are doing well now.. you could set up a business for her so she can take care of herself.. then you move on with your life and you both can co parent your son.

If you Ditch her.. hold your two ears.. if you Ditch her and she don't have no money and no where to sleep combined with the embarrassment she brought to her self and her family... then you just bought wahala..

You are right. This is not an affront on Architects please.

I've observed that Some architects during design stage do not visualizer the actual living in conditions when designing a house . Maybe it's because we don't pay them well enough.

I know they consider lighting but I've had to shift windows to create space for TV console placement. I've had to introduce floor light because of a floating bed, had to introduce another window because I wanted the Master bedroom to view the gate directly, introduce a recessed "sunken" living room floor because the owner loves height etc etc..

I believe when we involve architects fully in the design and construction process , results will come out better.

Methinks the bottom lines here are,

Lack of attention to detail.
Lazy?
Always in a hurry hurry to move to the next job.
People not taking pride in their work.

From my experience, that's what I have noticed. I have found one architect only here on nairaland to ticked quite a few boxes.

The one I detest the most is COPYCAT architect with silly designs and rubbish 3D designs.. 3D designs that ridicules architecture.

I am not an architect but I think it is an art. Should be meticulously delivered capturing what the owner have in mind, considering purpose of thr building, livability and affordability etc.. while highlighting the craft, the art, the beauty of the profession.

So straight to the point. Please I need your advice about two things.

1. I just got my inheritance and I got cash of 8M and there's this popular belief of people squandering their inheritance,I don't want that to be my portion so which business can I invest it into. For context, I currently have a job and I'm not ready to quit so please put that into consideration.

2. My younger brother is still a student so he has asked me to save his portion of 6M in bank until he graduates but I don't think that's a good idea. I would rather he put it in some form of secure investment that will be yielding something. Kindly give us suggestions.

Depending on where your reside.

If you live in one of those states that have plot of land in the 500k to 1m range for a decent place.

I would say maybe bump up your budget to say 2m or 2.5m.. that should get you a decent place in a developing area and if you are lucky , if the lot is on a corner or so. you can buy a plot , fence it and build 4 or 5 shops in front of it.

The rent might not be all that great but hey.. every little bit helps..

Then when you or your brother decides on something else.. you could always flip the real estate and move on to something else...

Please, if you go to the real estate option, please make sure you investigate very well.. get your documents intact... hire a lawyer if you must.

Other alternative is you could put the money in a fixed deposit account.. it might not add much interest but at least you secured the principal.. (as long you don't withdraw before the maturity date).

I will go for either of these two options because one , real estate appreciate.. if you have a lot with shops already... that's small income and this could be a foundation for someone.. even if na batcher you nack inside the compound.. you are a landlord.. you save money on rent while you work hard to better the living condition there..

I have defended her when my uncle wanted to sack her last year.
If i defend her again, my uncle will suspect im having fling with her. He almost caught us kissing so he is suspicious
If my uncle find out, he might sack me.
He sees me as an angel and i want to keep that reputation. So i can become M.D

For those asking why they want to sack her
Last year, during staff meeting. She kind of challenged a senior collegue's idea infront of everybody, the man was not having it. It caused a riff between them. Since then the man has been trying to sack her. Based on he is my uncles alley.
I defended her privately to my uncle. They didnt sack her..
Last year my uncle annouced that he will be going to uk for hip surgery.
His wife has taken over as of January.
Maybe the wife has a hand in this. 
And i cant ask her why..

Both my uncle and wife are not on nairaland. So its safe to bring this topic here
