TravelRe: What Common Things Surprised You In Other Countries that is lacking in Nigeria? by bigtt76(f): 6:07am On Apr 26, 2023
Countries with single language or ethnicity are usually better off in terms of development than those with multiple languages and ethnicities 😔

aboyaji:
I'll go first...

1. Cooking gas: Cooking gas is very cheap in ivory Coast. It costs an average of #330/kg of gas. So refilling a 12.5 kg cylinder should cost you #4125 at most.

2. Kerosene: kerosene costs relatively about #650/ litre in the fuel station, where the black market sells for #800/ litre.

Note : This country's oil production is very poor o. They're not even anywhere close to Naija's production.

3. Organisation: Ivory coast is very well organized that you can barely run into unorganized environment. Many areas are safely guarded by their local police officers stationed almost everywhere. You can as well make friends with the officers easily without any form of threat from them. They're very welcoming.

4. Very low violent place: People can move around as late as 10pm till dawn without the fear of harassment or violence. In fact, children play in the tarred road as late as 10pm. They have already come to terms about how safe they are in the country. People can stay up late wherever they went to without rushing back home due to nightfall. Night movements was my best !

5. Good Road network: I spent close to 7 months in ivory Coast and could barely see a road untarred. Almost every road I used was smoothly done and stretched to various cities and States. The only place my leg touched Sandy soil was in my compound because the landlord was still constructing more buildings in the site. So our compound was sandy at the moment.
Tarred road stretched into all compounds in ivory Coast. It's not the responsibility of the government to do your compound, it's yours. I was marvelled by such development though I spent most of my time in the rural area.

6. Security: Police is your friend is the Moto in ivory Coast. Really nice people. I guess I've said it somewhere before now.

6a. Theft is ALMOST uncertainty. The prepaid meter of every individual house is stationed outside the main building without burglary or iron shield. Anybody can touch it. It wasn't even stationed very high from the ground level. It went only as far as 3-4 feets high. A child of 10 can touch it too.

Our apartment is in a 2 storey building comprising of almost 33 units of one bedroom apartments. The building was built like a shopping complex. All of the prepaid meters used in this apartments are stationed outside where everyone can see and feel it. But no one steals it, likewise every other houses there.

6b. Once there was a particular theft in my ivorian friend's shop that I know of. There were 5 boys who was involved in burgling his computer and phone shop one night. But before 5am, the boys were all caught with the complete stolen items retrieved. Funny enough, my friend didn't know. He was woken up by the police to come to his shop and see the guys. And he didn't have to SETTLE THE POLICE FOR DOING THEIR JOBS grin.

7. There is constant electricity in that country. CONSTANT.
I only observed a few nightouts and those periods were understandable. They all know when the lights would go off in the week or month and have come to terms with it. Light doesn't go off intermittently as obtained in Nigeria. And throughout my stay there, I didn't pay for light bill or water. My caretaker didn't mention it to me too. I was surprised. Steady light cheesy

8. Economy: Their economy is very good. It's almost equaling to the Naira at the time I left. So, if you hear 500 CFA there, it's almost equivalent to 500 Naira. So don't do too much calculation.

8a. Minimum wage is very much respected and applied. A POS attendant over their is living a good standard life. A bar attendant earns about 20,000 CFA weekly... WEEKLY o. I mean a local bar attendant. How much more a corporate hotel or bar attendant or waiter.

8b. The money you earn can fetch you a standard living. Their money is easily made and spent too.

9. FOOD grin grin grin: Our area of specialty.

Food is over cheap compared to what's obtained in Naija. You can see someone who earns little but could afford chicken or any frozen food. Food is not part of their problems for now. Banana can go as low as 50 CFA or 50 Naira and it is not the small quantity we're talking about.

A bunch of Bananas that you can get from a roadside vendor in Naija for 800 could be gotten for 150 CFA. So you see it. Once I bought 2 Bunches of banana for 50 each, I couldn't finish them for 3 days.

9a. So sorry, vegetables can be scarcely found there my dear. I made most of my soup without vegetables. That part I didn't enjoy undecided

That's for now. Anybody can add.

Why not wait till you have enough pay slips that shows the correct number of hours? But the fact that it is on your payslip means your NI would have that update and Home Office 🙄

EngGandalf:
Hello house, I’m trying to apply for a refund of IHS Surcharge fee, and it has requested for a 6months payslip history. The first few months I got here on Tier 2. My slips reads above 20hrs… just about 2 slips.. can I upload it along side the remaining slips ? What’s the way forward.
Also I’m not sure I’m reading it right, but just to be correct about my eligibility. Am I eligible as a studnt on Tier 2 visa, who has worked in a healthcare role for more than 6months?

Thank you.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by bigtt76(f): 2:47pm On Apr 23, 2023
The cost of the breach is the payment already highlighted in the contract. It simply means if you want out, then you have to breach the contract and the cost of that breach is what you have to pay.

koonbey:
He's not breaching the contract.

The contract says he will work for 5 years but if he terminates early he will pay the associated costs.

Termination is part of the contract and he has said he is ready to pay, so there's no breach.

@deeonebanging your employer is not obligated by law to provide you a reference - https://www.acas.org.uk/providing-a-job-reference.

All that they are obligated to do re references is to be true and fair if they do give one. So the best thing would be to soft-pedal and get the present employer to tell you how much you have to pay, which you can then pay and get the reference. Alternatively, you can let the prospective side know and ask them to allow an alternative.

Good stuff and thanks for the clarifications.

koonbey:
I hear what you're saying about it being like a buzzword but while the reason for rejection may not be an 'untailored' CV, a tailored CV will ALWAYS be a huge advantage so that's why people harp on it every time. You'll stand a stronger chance of getting past the initial ATS screening in the first place, and also when the hiring manager is considering you during the interview process.

Anyway, to tailor your CV is essentially to rewrite the contents of your CV to reflect the specific needs of a job you're applying to. The degree of tailoring should always be at the level of the industry at the minimum, but also at the level of the specific role, ideally. So, you'd take your base CV template and replace elements irrelevant (bearing transferable skills in mind) to that role with ones that directly reflect what the company wants, as specified in the JD.

One way to ease this is to have custom CV templates for specific kinds of roles, in addition to the general base CV, so it'll be easier to edit those than doing it from your base template each time. If you're a lawyer, for instance, it could be CV-litigation, CV-corporate. So every time you have a job you want to apply for, you can then choose the closest one, and then customise it further to suit the job. If you want to apply for a role as a corporate associate specialised in intellectual property, for instance, you'd take the corporate template and remove things like oil and gas or mergers and acquisitions deals you worked on, and then focus on the IP aspects of your experience.

Three ways I can think of off the top of my head now - I'm sure there'll be more info online :

1. Change your experience section to reflect the role, as in the example above. You don't change where you worked, but you change the specific accomplishments you highlight under each job.
2. Change the accomplishments to reflect the kinds of things the company wants to hire you for. So if the company is hiring you to register trademarks, there's no sense in spending all the space highlighting your research in patent applications.
3. Make the more relevant sections longer, and trim the irrelevant ones. In the example above, for instance, the last job where you worked on IP the most may have up to 5 - 6 lines under the highlights but the time when you worked as an intern in a criminal law role may have Just one or two at most.

How do you do this? I'm curious though 🙄

Viruses:
You've almost paid everything. If push comes to shove, just withdraw cash from your credit card then pay the minimum monthly balance till you are buoyant enough to clear the balance.

This advice is based on the assumption that credit card sanctions (interest or missed payments) is better than school sanctions.

Long and short, cargo provider loads goods in container....... Container was full ...... Someone that handed logistics courier their own goods, packed cocaine...... Container arrived UK and was seized by customs......

We still dey the matter to collect our goods (almost 3 month's and counting)......

It's slowly resolving, a controlled delivery was made, cocaine gang arrested in the UK..... Now uk customs wants individual to come claim their goods, individually ......... We still dey await date .....😂
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by bigtt76(f): 8:18am On Apr 22, 2023
What do you mean by tailor CV? I ask cos many may not understand this buzzword 😂

When people complain of getting rejected, what you keep hearing is tailor your CV without any explanation on how to go about it and making one look incompetent or not doing enough. Mean while the reason for rejection could be other than not having a tailored CV 🤷🏿‍♀️

idee91:
Keep checking and applying on CV library and indeed. Filter for remote roles, and try apply to customer service advisor roles in banks like Lloyd’s, HSBC, Barclays. They usually have fully remote roles. You can also register with recruiting agencies like Blue Arrows and AMS solutions who recruit for some of this corporate Orgs. The key is to tailor your CV as much as possible and keep applying.

HealthRe: Please Help, My Son Has Dandruff For Over 8years Now by bigtt76(f): 2:00pm On Apr 19, 2023
Why not keep his hair low? Cut it everyday and allow the scalp to breathe. If washing his head makes him react, use warm damp cloth to wipe it daily. Dandruff would not thrive where there's no hair covering the scalp. At least keep his head clean and not what you have displayed here.

7david7:
Good morning my people, I am writing you people at this delicate hour of 12:39am because my son's condition, it's getting worse by the day.

Dandruff wants to kill this beautiful boy, I know it's weird because we all know, myself included that dandruff doesn't kill, but watching myself lose a part of my son everyday.

He's been suffering from this condition for over 6yrs now, we've gone to the hospital and after buying and using all the prescribed drugs (Nizoral shampoo, selsun blue, head and shoulders, tea tree oil, miconazole cream, ketoconazole cream, terbinafine cream, fluconazole tablet, terbinafine tablet: almost killed my son, griseofulvin etc) nothing has changed, instead it's getting worse by day.

From complaining of headaches, to weakness (my son that was filled with energy and plays all the time now barely moves, he is always one place complaining of tiredness and pain), to joint pains, to confusion.

According to him, this dandruff has ate up his scalp so much that he can now taste his bathing soap on his tongue the moment he washes his head. We are now scared of washing and applying anything on his head because he will complain of tasting whatever we put on his head in his mouth and he will start having reactions. It's almost as if the skin on his scalp no longer protects him from outside soaps and other ingredients.

The moment he washes his head, his lips and tongue will swell up and he will start having reactions. My once active and lovely boy is now a shadow of himself. He's refusing to play, always complaining of tiredness and pains.

Pls help me my people, I don't know what to do anymore. I've tried every hospital and everything, I've done all I know, and now I'm watching my son deteriorate gradually before my very eyes without having a clue what to do, pls I beg you, help him, help me.

Do you wash or wipe your yansh after pooing?

Sponty600:
Okay so around last year, exactly this time of the year. I don't know how possible but I observed that flies are following or are attracted to me.

At first it was very minor, I only see them in one or two places.

Fast forward into the last year, it started increasing. I see flies everywhere even in very clean places like churches or banks.
I doubt if its a hygiene problem, because I wear clean clothes and maintain personal hygiene. And plus they're dirty people in the society and none of them have never experienced this.

I have experienced this for a year now, despite trying to find a cure to it,it leaves me deeply confused anytime I think of it.

If anyone has experienced similar problem or has any suggestion, please let me hear.

Exactly ...best you start very early. Same thing I did too. I opted to keep my unexpired passport and I got renewed after 3 months. Better than nothing.

Phenmeson:
I keep tracking mine since 2months after application, it has always been on Application received. Even till the very day I pick it up from the embassy, it fail to move to Ready for enrolment. Is better to renew the passport 6months before expiring because 9ja High Commission are unpredictable.
Some applicant received theirs less than a month after applying why some hasn't received theirs 6months after.

I get it now. When I saw 3 Moons I was like 🤭 shey this person na ancient of days reps ni 🤣🤣🤣

Yes you are right... You are given 3 months to enter the UK before the expiration of your visa vignette. When you get in you will then collect your BRP which your permit throughout the duration of study or work in the UK.

Yes you can't enter the UK before or without the MA being in the UK.

The post you quoted earlier was talking about his passport renewal sha 🤣

DoDirtsLikeWorm:
Meanwhile what I was trying to say is, b4 I got my passport back, in the BRP there's a place where I was told when I can enter The YouKay, that if I delays it and it crosses a particular months (3months/moons max), I will have to go through another process to be able to enter.

So @BIGTT76

I was surprised how someone was able to get visa in 2022 b4 the MA and is still yet to travel, knowing fully well that his entrance has 3months threshold.

Woo...I done too explain.
