This menace will not stop until electronic voting is implemented in Nigeria. Terrible things this election period.
Even with electronic voting the story will remain the same. The politicians will find ways around it. The truth is that we are not mature enough for these processes. For me option A4 adopted in 1993 remains the best. Face to face as I call it or see me I see you. It is fool proof and tamper proof. It will eliminate irregularities. The politicians know it but they will never accept because they always want to cheat.

PoliticsRe: Buhari Runs A Govt With No Direction – Financial Times by Cantonese: 8:15am On Mar 09, 2019
happney65:
The Financial Times of London says President Muhammadu Buhari has been running a government that lacks a clear direction in the last four years.

The respected newspaper therefore called on the President to see his re-election as an opportunity to do the right thing.

The Financial Times said this in its editorial which has been read and shared thousands of times around the world.

It said there was no clear economic policy like that of Rwanda and Ethiopia.

It read in part, “With his renewed mandate, it is now Mr Buhari’s task to rebuild faith by running a dynamic and successful administration and by building the institutions that can lay firmer foundations than in his previous term.

“The omens from his first four years in office are not good. During that time, the former military leader ran a lacklustre administration with no obvious sense of direction. There was no coherent economic strategy of the sort being attempted by the likes of Ethiopia, Rwanda or west African neighbours Ghana and Senegal to produce the rapid growth needed to haul tens of millions of people out of poverty. It is an indictment of its leadership — both military and democratic — that the continent’s biggest oil producer should have more people living in absolute poverty than any other country in the world.”

FT advised the President to appoint more technocrats in his second term who can help turn things around.

The newspaper said the anti-corruption war must be more holistic and less selective.

FT added, “Mr Buhari’s priority this time must be to set out a coherent agenda, implemented by technocrats rather than ideologues, to turn things around. Nigeria desperately needs to create a level playing field for business in which access to foreign currency, permits, and other requirements is both predictable and rational.

“His much-vaunted crackdown on corruption must go beyond taking action against a few minor officials. Some big scalps would help. More important still is to implement systematic changes — whether by reforming institutions, using technology or by removing arbitrage opportunities — to create a more transparent environment. People should prosper in Nigeria based on what they know and how much value and employment they can create, not by their connections.”

That is just on the economic part. What about the other part where we have seen more division along ethnic and tribal lines? The other part where leadership has been set at only one part of the country to the detriment of the other. Where more knowledgeable people have been brushed aside for mediocres to lead? It is clear to all who can see the tomorrow of this country that we may not be a nation by 2023.

CrimeRe: Ogun Landlord Attacks Neighbour, Blinds Him Over Security Dues by Cantonese: 3:50pm On Mar 08, 2019
iGISTM0RE:
GistMore.com

A landlord, Olushina Dairo, has lost the use of his eyes as a result of an alleged attack by a fellow landlord, Sulaimon Badmus, over unpaid security dues in the Araromi/Mupin community, Iyana Iyesi area of Ogun State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Olushina was part of the team that was mobilised to collect security dues from residents.

It was learnt that Badmus allegedly attacked Olushina by using a manual digger to hit him on the head while he was going from house to house to collect the dues.

The Chairman, Araromi Community Development Association, Fatai Hamidu, said Olushina was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital and was subsequently transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

Hamidu stated, “The issue stemmed from a communal crisis. The former chairman was impeached over alleged misappropriation of funds and this led to the division of the association into two factions. Olushina is with our faction, while the other man, who used the digger to hit him, is one of our executive members, but we did not know that he was working for the other faction.

“On the day of the incident, we were moving from house to house to collect security dues. We had not got to the front of Badmus’ house when we suddenly heard a loud cry and people shouting that someone had been killed.

“I saw that Olushina was already on the floor in a pool of his own blood. We rushed him to the nearest hospital and he was subsequently transferred to LASUTH, but he is not getting any better; he can’t see with his eyes. The first operation has been done and the doctors say another operation will be performed on him in six months.

Olushina’s wife, Deborah, who said she was not at home when the incident happened, alleged that the action of her husband’s attacker was deliberate.

The mother of three said, “I was not at home on the day of the incident. On my way back home, I heard people shouting for help. When I got home, I did not meet my children and by the time I got to where the incident took place, I saw my husband on the floor.

“I was told that someone on the street, known as ‘Onicandle’, hit my husband with a digger. They said the landlords were having a meeting and Badmus just brought out a digger to hit him and since then, we have been battling to save his life.

“We recently just moved to the area. Before we moved in, we learnt that the former chairman was impeached for alleged misappropriation of funds. We learnt that the community wanted to get electricity from a company and the former chairman was allegedly collecting money but did not do anything.

“The man who attacked my husband with the digger is one of the followers of the former chairman. The whole incident was a conspiracy and a deliberate act, because the former chairman and his gang had threatened to foment trouble so that they could have the seat back.”

The Ogun State indigene said the culprit failed to attend to the medical bills of her husband until the police came to visit Olushina at the hospital, adding that her husband needed all the help he could get to make him see again.

Deborah said, “When the incident happened, instead of the culprit and his cohorts to rally around and show concern for my husband, they hired a lawyer to bail the attacker after he was arrested by the police.

“An initial operation was carried out on my husband’s head costing N600,000. The police came to visit my husband at the hospital on the day the first operation was performed and when they saw the extent of the damage done, the case was transferred from the Ota Police Station to the state Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

“My husband is to undergo another surgery in six months’ time. The community was able to support but my husband has not been able to use his eyes. He needs all the assistance he can get to make him see again.”

PUNCH Metro gathered that Badmus was charged to the Ota Magistrates’ Court and remanded in the Ibara Prison, Abeokuta, while the case was adjourned till April 5, 2019.

PoliticsRe: Why Federal Government Should Take Over Obasanjo’s Presidential Library — Sagay by Cantonese: 8:49am On Mar 08, 2019
nairavsdollars:
Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), has recommended that the Federal Government should take over the management of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) located in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, in order to sustain it and preserve it as a national monument.

The library whose donation was made during the twilight of Obasanjo’s presidency in 2005 was finally launched in 2017. A lot of civil society organisations and lawyers have petitioned the Federal Government to probe the funding of the library, claiming many of the donors were public officials and contractors.

Speaking on calls by some Nigerians that the library should be managed by the Federal Government, Sagay said he does not support the way Obasanjo was treating the library as his personal property when it should be a public institution.

While asking the Federal Government to persuade Obasanjo to hand over the major aspect of running the library to the government for better management, Sagay argued that while the library will still be in Obasanjo’s name, it should be supervised by the Federal Government so that it will not lose its value even after Obasanjo’s demise.

He said, “Obasanjo is a very unique type of person in many ways. He doesn’t follow laid down standards, conventions and practices. He takes control and personalises everything. To start with, that library was not built by private donations.

“It was built with public funds from heads of various Nigerian public institutions whose arms were twisted to produce huge sums of money. Some even donated in billions. So, it is not something done by Obasanjo through persuasion or private donors, it is built by public funds. So, really, this is the best case why it should be supervised by the Federal Government even though it was built in Obasanjo’s name.

“So, I don’t agree with the way Obasanjo is treating it as a purely personal property. But that is his nature. He is an authoritarian person.

“My suggestion will be that the Federal Government should not forcefully take it over from him. But Obasanjo should be gently reminded that institutions belong to the country, not him personally and that he should gradually arrange to handover the major aspects of the running to the Federal Government.

“And if he doesn’t agree, maybe after his demise, the Federal Government should just take it over after passing some legal provisions. The library will still be in his land and in his name but it will be managed by the Federal Government.

“In fact, it enhances the status of the library if it becomes a state-owned property rather than privately owned. Otherwise, I don’t wish him to pass away soon. May he live long much longer…. But when the inevitable comes, the library may suffer if it is not a public library.

“We have seen so many families where they fight over even little property when the founder passes away and at the end, it is either abandoned or desecrated and they are in court for decades. That won’t be appropriate for such an institution as the presidential library”, he said.

However, speaking on the issue, Prince Tony Momoh, a former Minister of Information, argued that the Federal Government has no business with the library as it was a private project owned by Obasanjo, though he requested and got donations for it while in office as president.

Momoh, one of the national leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), also cautioned the government against carrying vendetta too far.

Rather than take over Obasanjo’s library, Momoh advised the Federal Government to focus its attention on thousands of public libraries littered across the country that are in dilapidated state.

“The library is Obasanjo’s personal property and he asked people to donate and they donated. He then built the library which is highly patronised today, people hold meetings there and so on. How can anybody deny what the library was meant to be? Was it meant to be public or private? If it was public, which government set it up?

“Let us not carry our preoccupation with vendetta too far. That is a library pioneered by Obasanjo which is for public use. The motive for setting up the library is what we should be looking at. I am sure it is not a Federal Government property and it is not an Ogun State or any state’s property.

“I think it is a private and personal property that he used his position as president to influence the donations to that library. But that is a moral issue. I remember that even Fayose said he was forced to donate N10 million and he asked Obasanjo to refund it to Ekiti State.

“You will discover that after he left office, the donations fell. A lot of the large donors did not even show off after he left office. If he had waited till after his tenure as president to collect that money, maybe he couldn’t have collected 10 percent of it.

“So, he acted smart by asking for donations while he was still in office as president and got them. So, I don’t think anybody should be talking about anybody running Obasanjo’s library. There are lots of public libraries established. Go there today, many of the roofs are leaking. Government should go and focus on that”, he said.

When contacted, Obasanjo’s spokesman, Kehinde Akinyemi, said he will give our correspondent the number of the managing director of the library so as to speak on the issue but he couldn’t do so as at the time of going to press.

PoliticsLagos Belongs To All - Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe by Cantonese(op): 11:11pm On Mar 05, 2019
Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe wrote this beautiful piece, read and learn.

Lagos State belongs as much to the ethnic Igbo as to the Yoruba, Ijaw, Hausa, Fulani, Efik, Idoma, Urhobo, Itshekiri, Edo, and so on who live in it, pay tax, identify with it, and settle in it. That compact was made the moment Nigeria became a single nation, and a successor power to the old principalities who were subdued and who ceded their sovereignty for the new commonwealth of Nigeria.

It was pragmatic. The Igbo had the skill and the industry, and Lagos was the seat of the Federal Government of Nigeria and its major port. The Igbo have lived in Lagos since the 15th century when the Aro and other Igbo first settled in good number in a place we now call “Oyingbo” in the era of Benin and the Portuguese trade.

The arrival of Dr. Namdi Azikiwe to Lagos in 1937 from Accra after his studies in the United States, stimulated the political and cultural environment of Lagos as no other has before or after him. Zik literally resurrected the wizard of Kirsten hall from political death. Zik represented Lagos in the western house. The NCNC was the power in Lagos, and not the Action Group. The Igbo were prominent in the governance of Lagos in the Lagos City Hall.

The institutional development of Lagos – the railways, the ports and ship yards; the education and research facilities; the Banking and Commodities Exchange, the development of towns like Yaba, Surulere, Ebutta-Metta, Festac Town, Victoria Island, and now increasing the Ajah-Lekki axis, and of course, the ghettoes along the Orile-Badagry axis, have profound Igbo imprimatur.

The circulation of the image of Lagos is to date best reflected in the cosmopolitan Igbo imagination of one of the greatest African writers of the 20th century, Cyprian Ekwensi, a thorough Lagosian if there was any. Igbo have built industries in Lagos and have been drivers of commerce and exchange.

Interestingly, I was born at plot number 8, Okoya Street, Idumagbo- Lagos, while the Ojukwu families were residing at number one to three on the same street. I grew up to know the father of Odumegwu Ojukwu. Chimbizie and Azuka grew up with us on the same street. Even the Chibeze small parking space at the end of Okoya Street is called Ojukwu.

I later attended St. Patrick Primary School, Idumagbo, where I had very amiable classmates of Igbo origin in the persons of Azubike Ezenwa and Damian, Ihekuna, both now professors and doctors of today. They were brilliant, resourceful and friendly.

When we were playing bamboo and Tene Felele at Orikoriko at Onola playing ground, the Igbo participated actively. In the area of sports, school football and athletes, Igbo were dominant at Kings College, St. Gregory school, St. Finbars, Akoka, Igbobi College and Ahmadiyya College, Agege. Such boys, Njokwu, George Amu, Stephen Keshi, Henry Nwosu, Patrick Noquapor, Peter Anieke and Sammy Opone were dominant on the field of football, while Asiodu, Empire Kanu were prominent on the field of athletics.

Anytime we went to watch football match at Onikan stadium, my darling team, Stationery Stores and our adversary team I hated most was the E. C. N, where the centre forward, Paul Hamilton, the National Team, Fabian the captain who bit the dust. Our greatest captain was Duru, Oduah Onyenrekwa, Onyeador Onyeali and Opel, the greatest outside right Nigeria ever had, Cyril Azuluka. So, during my early life at primary school, the Igbo were always there and delightful to watch, both in athletes and on the football field.

When I listened to radio at that time, both the commentary and drama series, the Igbo were there for you. The likes of Chris Ndaguba, Ernest Okwonkwo, Ralph Okpara ‘Alawo Sekiseki the traveler’. The episode will end with – The script was written by Ralph Okpara and edited by Yemi Lijadu.

Anytime I visited where I was born today in Idumagbo at Lagos Island, the entire place is covered by Igbo traders in their thousands. They were never troublesome.

Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe.

The Bishop of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel, David Oyedepo has lampooned the last presidential and National Assembly elections, which he said was marred with widespread rigging. Bishop Oyedepo Speaking during the Sunday service at the Church headquarter in Ota, Ogun State, the Bishop prayed Nigeria would not experience another war as a result of the remaining elections, but mocked the irregularities that riddled the exercise in some polling units. Oyedepo said: “Other developed countries around the world had developed their mode of voting into a digitised method, but it’s a shame that in Nigeria, we still queue up to vote, and somebody would still be intimidated by thugs. With these, it’s a shame how politicians in this part of the world are proud of elections marred with rigging.

In Covenant University, any student caught indulging in examination malpractice, is gone. It does not matter if his or her father is the head of United Nations or not.” He, however prayed that there won’t be any bloodbath in any part of Nigeria as a result of the forthcoming governorship and House of Assembly elections, saying: “Every spirit of thuggery in Nigeria shall be silenced and every forces that would not let Nigeria rest shall be laid to rest and silenced forever.”

Recently tensions have risen between the Igbos and Yorubas. Everyday there is a plan to muzzle the opposition PDP using the EFCC created under the same PDP. Gradually APC is pushing towards the break up already predicted. If we are not careful the political class may not have all those seats to contest for after 2023.

A protest was sparked on Sunday morning by angry villagers in Anam community, Anambra West local government area of the state.

The aggrieved villagers took to the streets to agitate after it was claimed that the king sold community land to the Fulani herdsmen for cattle grazing.

This was said to have resulted to a clash between the youths of the community and the herdsmen.

Last year, the people of Amichi in Nnewi South Local Government Area, Anambra State, decided not to take any chance after some Fulani herdsmen ‘pitched their camp’ in their community.

The herdsmen had arrived the town and wanted to graze their cattle but the villagers refused and chased the told them out of the community.

Last week we were shown images of cows on BRT lanes in Lagos. In 1996 Buba Marwa gave an ultimatum to herdsmen using agbo malu in Marine beach area to vacate. The herdsmen thought he was joking. When the realised that they could not pacify him, they moved their cows to Oko Oba abattoir where they have remained till this day. That was ranching. Before then Lagos always experiencef problems with herdsmen.

Please why won't the government and people of Lagos allow cows roam freely on the streets again. This way people can experience the rage of the cow men. When you drive and cows with stick wielding sticks obstruct your way, even on the expressway.

Those who have not seen the areas of destruction by these herdsmen should please ask for information at least to know how the affected feel.

Fayose was not stupid or being political when he dealt with the issue in Ekiti. Now Fayemi enjoys that peace and will not permit any herdsman killing in Ekiti as an APC governor. Ortom in Benue state had to do something about it too.

If the federal government is sincere enough the herdsmen can be made to establish their own ranches. Government has to prove to us that there is no sinister arrangement to grab lands in captured areas.

Must we remain as one country? If we cannot tolerate each other why not break up peacefully? A child is made to pay the supreme price for what he knew nothing about. The culprit must be found and dealt with according to the law.
PoliticsRe: “APC Will Produce Kwara’s Next Governor” – Bukola Saraki’s Sister Gbemisola by Cantonese: 9:43am On Mar 04, 2019
TeeeVeeee:
A sister to Senator Bukola Saraki – Nigeria’s Senate President – Senator Gbemisola Saraki has said she would work hard to ensure that the All Progressives Congress(APC) produces the next governor of her home state, Kwara. Gbemisola is a member of APC while her brother is a member of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP). Gbemisola disclosed her position in a statement on Saturday saying, “We can’t stop until progressives lead all states to the next level of our collective prosperity. So for each and every one of us, we must not relent, we have the elections of next Saturday, March 9 to go.In my state, Kwara, we are all out to ensure that AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq of our party, the APC, emerges the next governor of Kwara State, Insha Allah.”

On President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election for another four years, she added,“As Nigerians, we may indeed share different political leanings but we are united in our love for the greatness of our nation, Nigeria. To us in the APC and to our supporters, we find in President Buhari and Prof Osinbajo true leaders that have been and are still working selflessly and assiduously to enthrone a nation, where the greatness of our people and our nation remains our primary goal. It is my solemn belief that the wind of true change that re-elected President Buhari and Prof Osinbajo would blow across our land in our drive to elect governors and leaders that would epitomise our collective pride and aspiration of responsible, selfless and diligent leaders thus raising the bar of our development in Nigeria.”

Her inability to become governor after her brother pain her too much. She was asked to return to the senate then. Anyway she must remember even as she is bitter at her brother that it is her father's dynasty that will be closed. And by the way why does a woman of this age still bear her father's name. No husband? Pickin nko?

Senator Godswill Akpabio Mocks The PDP For Losing The Presidential Election, Calls Them An Empty Basin

Senator Godswill Akpabio has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost the election the day he left and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a one-on-one interview with Channels Television‘s Seun Okinbaloye, Senator Akpabio described himself as a very big yam while in the PDP and immediately he left, the PDP became an empty basin.

He equally claimed that he won in the National Assembly election and stated how he intends being the Senate President after reclaiming his mandate.

I agree that you were a yam before you left PDP. But I want to remind you that you were a rotten yam. Its either you were rotten before you were havested or you were rotten after you were havested. However as we all know rotten yam is thrown into the dustbin. Akpabio out of greed and fear decamped to APC. Seeing the outpour of people pre election he thought he could defeat PDP in Akwa Ibom. The reality starred him in the face when he lost the seat given to him happily by the good PDP people of Akwa Ibom. He also needs to be reminded that what goes around comes around. He thew aside Victor Attah, took over the seat of Aloysius Etuk and today he has lost his seat and image. He has been roundly defeated by Emmanuel Udom.

Lagos can never be turned into an emirate man. Wake up from your sleep. Lagos is growing everyday. Have you been to VGC, banana island, lekki, ikeja GRA, lekki free trade zone, ikoyi, oshodi, ikorodu etc. All these places can never be found in your own state. Lagos is the business hub of Nigeria .All thanks to our leaders both past and present.

That same alausa has igbo people working for Lagos state government .I bet you cant find one single Yoruba man in Imo state or anambra state secetariate .

Focus on the topic and stop your sentimental way of thinking. No be Lagos be your problem oga
Go to the east and find out for yourself friend. Have you ever been across the river Niger at the Onitsha side? You will come back to the south west bringing the good news of what you saw. Never judge a book by its cover.

Sometimes this FFK of a man seems to confuse himself. I disagree with him absolutely on this. He needs to check his statistics.

First he should not hold the Igbos responsible for the failure of Atiku. Atiku is a northerner just like Buhari. In the contest how many votes did Atiku score in the northeast where he comes from. If you add the northwest then you can find the result yourself.

Obi delivered his state Anambra by a very wide margin, even totally defeating APGA in Anambra state where the governor openly campaigned for Buhari. Obi delivered the whole of the south east. What was the score card of Atiku in the north east?

Now concerning the issue. FFK as an inlaw to the Igbos should be reminded the reason for the recent tribal issues with the Yorubas in Lagos. The Yorubas are not happy that the Igbos are voting PDP. If we use the issues of the happening in Lagos as our window to look at other Yoruba states then we can safely say that the South west votes was so high because the Igbos in the south west voted Atiku. Ordinarily most of the South west voted and would always vote APC. The Igbos are contesting for positions in government. A vote for whoever it is translates to a vote for PDP.

The truth is that PDP has a lot of work to do in the south west. Look at Lagos, while APC is out there telling the Yorubas that the Igbos are their problems, FFK and PDP led by Agbaje have not come out to vehemently counter it. If they do so that should give the Igbos more confidence to come out in the governorship and vote PDP. That done will increase PDP votes more.

Please do your research properly FFK.

PoliticsRe: Buhari: Only Those With Integrity Will Make My Next Cabinet by Cantonese: 6:31pm On Mar 03, 2019
ahmedkoded95:
President Muhammadu Buhari says only those with integrity and interest of Nigeria will be considered in the next cabinet.

He also promised to appoint more women and youth during his second tenure, acknowledging the “significant role” they played toward his re-election.

He said his administration would not disappoint them.

Buhari spoke at a dinner the All Progressives Congress (APC) women and youth organised to celebrate his re-election, on Saturday.

He said more fertilizers were being made available to Nigerian farmers at a lower rate, adding that this has resulted in an increase in agricultural production and reduction in food importation.

Buhari also called on Nigerian youth to embrace agriculture to ensure more food sufficiency and food export.

He again faulted the 16-year rule of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which he said, “wasted the nation’s resources”.

According to him, the country witnessed “rampant infrastructure decay” in spite of the huge resources earned during the period.

What qualifies intergrity? If rigging formed a major part of the electoral process that returned the president and he pretended as if he did not know. How then can he separate intergrity from corruption. Politicians got him to that position. Will he then drop professional politicians for professionals in politics? Let's wait and see.
