I was wondering when this story was going to appear on NL.
An elderly acquaintance of mine talked about this on Saturday (two days ago), said he was sent the information on WhatsApp and was asking our opinion.
I had no opinion then, I still have no opinion now.
This is one of those things that is the more you look, the less you see. I can't dismiss it outrightly, yet at the same time I can't believe it outrightly. |

The OP talked about more things than banning porn, and i responded. We have no reason to drag this further, i already know your stance. crackhaus: Be aware that I do not hold brief for the porn industry by my submission above. I'm simply intent on letting you know that with or without porn, there'll still be sexual assaults/rapes and there'll still be unproductive people.
If at all there's a decrease in the number of persons in those groups after banning porn, it will be so negligible that the ban on porn would have been unnecessary. Way ahead of ya... I deliberately inserted that caveat in my first comment specifically for 'people' like you. Cheers... |

fredwill1357: Our sexual urge is one of the most strongest urges in our body, people sometimes lose their senses when they are aroused, that is why people make noises and stupid promises when having sex, they just can't help it, you can't compare the hot blood that runs in our veins when watching porn and aroused to what we feel when watching violent movies and listening to degrading music's. No one is comparing the instant feelings of pleasure you get when watching these things. It's the behaviour they can induce overtime we are talking about. You say, porn = rape, sexual assault, unproductivity. I say, movies/music = drugs, prostitution (half-nakëd women), gangsterism, fraudsters. |

nwaezeemmanuel: I'm not holding porn responsible for every crime. I'm saying what it is capable of. Whether it is banned or not, it is not my concern. The entire thread was premeditated on the idea of banning porn, if you now don't care whether it's banned or not, what is your argument here? Movies glorifying crime have the potential to aid criminal activities.
During the Akin and Pawpaw days, i saw kids take on deadly mischievous pranks, out of misguided influence of their movies.
Music has the potential to create societal problems as well. If the toxic hypnotic ones weren't there, things maybe could have been not as bad. Good, Ban them all!At the end, we are always responsible for our individual actions. This doesn't excuse porn from being a negative influence still. No where have I stated that it has no negative influence. Even drinking too much water has negative effects on the body. |

fredwill1357: Most developed countries where people watch porn a lot have security, with cameras installed on streets and people minding their business and living a secluded life, it is far easier to rape someone in a country like Nigeria, where you see minors hawking on unfamiliar streets and people giving out under aged children as house helps. Moreover the white man and black man way of thinking differs. Good, finally you're warming up to the real issue. Took you long enough... So what do you think is really responsible for high cases of rape, sexual assaults, and unproductivity? Is it porn, or is it how developed a country is? And by developed I mean – good security systems, professional law enforcement carrying out investigations, laws against rape/sexual assaults that are enforced strictly, etc. And in the area of unproductivity, job/wealth creation can take care of that to a good extent. But let's say porn is indeed banned in Nigeria because you assume it's behind the high levels of unproductivity, what happens when an unproductive person still has no access to jobs or low-interest loans to start businesses after this ban? Don't you think they will seek another vice to invest their time in? All in all, given the fact that porn adds no benefits to our lives except the addicted minds that runs to it, it is in the betterment of our lives and the society at large that it gets banned all over the world or at least in Nigeria. This opinion is purely subjective because you live in a country like Nigeria where nothing works, which is why you think porn is responsible (even a little bit) for the state of the country. If porn is really that big an issue for you, then banning it all over the world should be preferable. Most of the content Nigerians watch are not made by Nigerians. |

nwaezeemmanuel: Porn aids rape and sexual assault. If you've ever watched so much of it, you should understand his perspective.
If you've watched a lot of it and deny that it aids abuse, you will be lieing to yourself.
Definitely! Not all rape cases have roots in porn consumption. Whatever your perspective, it wouldn't change the fact that porn to a degree can aid abusive behaviours. If your intention is to make the world a better place then you're doing a piss-poor job of it Why stop at just porn?Ban all movies that glorify crime and gangs, this will reduce armed-robbery, and street gangsters. Ban all music (rap specifically) that objectifies women, glorifies drugs and encourages the make-money-quick lifestyle. This will reduce drug addictions, prostitution, and internet fraudsters. |

fredwill1357: It is a principle of natural justice that nobody can judge a case in which they have interest, only few people will be able to judge their causes fairly. Porn isn't the only factor that perpetuates rape and unproductivity in people, but it plays it's own roles with the lot's of dirty and perverted fantasies being played out in many porn movies, given the fact that it adds no benefits to our lives, except the addicted idiots defending it, it should be banned for good. Obviously it isn't, the question is how much of it is really behind unproductivity and rape. Let me help you with a perspective... Think of a country where you know that cases of rape and unproductivity in the younger citizens are very low in comparison to Nigeria. Do you think they don't watch porn in that country? |

bukatyne: I am always on point
I read those posts and saw nothing extraordinary.
The standard of Nigerian husbands must have fallen if filling gas cylinders and preparing a kid for school in the morning is 'simping'.
Considering her religious background, I get her referring to him as 'feminist' even if all she wanted to say is 'supportive'.
I would group humans into two:
1. People who look at labels and not actions: once you claim the right label (feminist, anti-feminist, red puller, Christian etc.) they don't care about your actions.
2. People who look at actions and not labels: they don't care what you call yourself or don't, they look at your actions.
People triggered by this thread and similar threads across divides fit into box one.
Some husbands here might be more hands-on than Aisha's husband. However, the label 'feminist' automatically makes him a Simp. On the flip side, the label 'feminist' makes him perfect and ideal even though he did not know when his son wrote common entrance. I'm in this category. Not just actions but overall lifestyle... |

The Army and other security chiefs to then Goodluck Jonathan stated that it will amount to shame on them and a violation of Nigeria's soverignty to have foriegn troops operate within Nigeria.
This is why the US did not bother to inform the Nigerian govt and also why Idris Derby just strolled into Nigeria and avenged the killings of his soldiers by BH wtthout also notifying the Nigerian govt. I am happy for this little expose. At least awon 'marriage stop your goals as a woman' would give us breathing space and realize that their own husbands and not marriage is the problem.
I am curious though: how old is she to be married twenty years?
I thought she was in her early thirties. You're always on point, okay not always but mostly... Honestly, there's nothing out of the ordinary in their family dynamic if we are to go by what are on those screenshots. Perhaps the fact that she used the term feminist to describe her husband is the reason why people are reacting. I mean take a look at this particular tweet below – she says he didn't know when his own kids were writing exams. Doesn't that imply he was not a hands-on father, or perhaps he was, but not to a large extent? This kind of contradicts that whole feminist narrative. I get her point though, the summary of it all is that her husband supports her aluta hustle and does not hold her down/back, which would be typical of muslims. What I don't know is if this makes him a feminist, or it simply makes him a supportive husband which is what every sensible man with a sensible wife actually is. However, being the latter (supportive) does not automatically make one the former (feminist), and she may have been conflating the two.

@bold: the hunter has become the hunted. After years of threats, she has learnt and perfected the act. Maybe if this works out, you will learn a lesson on effective communication.
You are a very good monetary provider, well done sir. Apart from money, what else did you provide in the relationship? There are no emotional security with the constant threats of 'I am no longer interested'.
Reach out to your girl's father if his influence on his daughter is greater than that of the friend's.
And Oga, when all is well, ensure you provide emotional security so your woman doesn't have to run around confiding in friends that are faster to destroy than build.

He's your son, you follow born am and you don't need to beg her to have access to him...you simply DON'T. Her only grace here is the distance between both of you and the fact that she knows all you care about is your son (which is not a bad thing at all), so she will use all this to torment you – it's what they usually do, but don't let it get to you. If you have family in Nigeria, let them hold the fort for you and keep in touch with your child on your behalf. If she is so concerned about balanced teaching and the simplistic way gender roles are portrayed, then she should have also complained that fathers are portrayed as only providers.
Fathers cook, clean, drive, repair stuffs, protect, encourage etc etc etc.
Perhaps we should list that too so her son doesn't think the only duty of a father is monetary provision.
Anyone who thinks women belong to the kitchen or cooking is meant for only women because his pry 1 social studies teacher said so must be living alone in a forest.
