angelfallz: Me too. i have a feeling they're just waiting to catch me doing something bad to confirm their suspicions. Like during my NYSC, because my gf was serving in the city she could not be coming regularly to where i was, so no woman was entering my room. Everyone was thinking i was doing holy holy, some even asked "why you no dey carry woman?" until the day my babe showed up. I no hear after she left, they were just hailing me. We human beings love to assume. Yours is better nah, at least they associated the phrase holy-holy with you. I never enjoyed that much grace... Everytime I have been single in my life, most people hardly believed I was no matter what I said. So I just stopped trying after a while – they ask me about my relationships, and I would say all my women are doing very well. It was all about confirming what they thought they knew, had no patience to prove otherwise... Lol! |

naptu2: I don't think it's about being cool. I think that's also about virtue.
The same way that some people name their kids after lions or leopards, to depict that they are as strong as those animals, so also do people name their children after other humans, especially people that are dead, with the hope that the child will imbibe the virtue of the person that they are named after.
So people name their children Solomon, with the hope that the child will be as wise as King Solomon, etc.
Athanasius was a bishop of Alexandria in Egypt and some people thought that he was wise. That might be the reason that they name their children after him.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athanasius_of_Alexandria I believe joseph1823 was just being funny... Although true to the fact, those names Athanasius & Donatus really don't sound cool, so you're right about the virtue angle. However, there are definitely some names you hear, and you just know that coolness was a very good reason it was chosen. Not at all minimizing and/or despite their virtuous meanings. |

And if today, you Igbos are granted a referrendum to form same Zio-shithole west African Lesotho, I can bet with my left blockus, that majority will reject biafra..

Do you backup name options before the child arrives or is there something am missing. Some people do this, plan/list names they intend to give their unborn child(ren). Even I have been guilty of this, BUT after a certain experience, I now find that this method can be a wee bit contrived (for lack of a better word). Personally, I now find it fascinating when children are given names that encompass the circumstances surrounding their birth – could be an experience during the pregnancy, or even an experience right there in the labor ward. Some parents also choose names that are futuristic in expression, in the sense that they believe something about the child that will/may become that child's reality much later on – this also works. Whatever method people choose anyway, the basic idea is to always know the meaning, origins, and history behind a name (assuming you don't want to give one that is based on a person experience). I have noticed that a lot of people simply pick names that sound posh/hip/modern without having a deeper understanding of their meanings. |

Politics › Re: Protests Rock Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Bauchi, Niger Over Insecurity by crackhaus: 8:47am On Oct 16, 2020 |
PeaceIlya: When the Niger Deltans rose to "revolt" & cut short the oil supply of oil companies/barons, they were asked to select "leaders" & representatives. They had just won a few battles. Not the war. Each time, the "representatives" were flown to Abuja, lodged in 5 star hotels and "entertained". A chaperone was attached to them from the other side, & ensures that they are lacking of nothing. These were riverine boys who hadn't seen opulence, talk more of the extravagance of oil coys, barons who saw these expenses as slush funds & the lavishness of Abuja.
A day turned into two & into weeks, & the message of the "chaperone" will be, "Enjoy yourselves. They're still in a meeting & will be with you shortly". The representatives were "freedom fighters", here to speak about their impoverished people & oil drenched villages.
Often, one or two will remind them of why they came to Abuja, because they were already falling into the hedonic trap. Others will remind the conscious ones to take life more easily - the inability to subdue the pull of money is where evil roots in. They fell. These were conscious strategies. A week or two later, when these "representatives" had fully clung to the web, the chaperone announces that the "ogas" were ready to see them.
It took nothing to convince these boys why a few millions, houses & cars for themselves & their boys (and maybe a few boreholes for the community) and a little projects by the companies was a good deal.
They were making a concession, after all, they had treated them well & understand their clamour. Why should they keep being at loggerheads with the military when they can work together? A little muscle is a good tactic even when you're at odds. The representatives agreed. They forgot about the struggle. The community. They reason they took up to arms. And the people. Greed is a motivator. Everyone has a price. "Concession. Negotiation. Leaders." "Committee."
The oldest trick in the Machiavellian book. As the saying goes, "if you must dine with the devil, use a long spoon". It's a deliberate derailment. Citizens (we) have not won ANYTHING. Just a few battles. If the government wanted to make reforms, they don't need to "negotiate" to do the right thing.
Already, factions are forming. They know you want power. If money is the root of evil, power is the soil on which it germinates.
There's always a history lesson.
Focus. Did you write this yourself, or you copied it from somewhere? If it's the latter, please attach your source. I need to know the author. It is the most beautiful exposé I have read on NL this week regarding the current state of our polity. |

So I had a little argument with my babe.
– She gets physical, she blocks my way, speaks rudely to me, encroach on my space, pulls my shirt (it tears a little), my hair, slaps me all over Iike uncountable times all at ones.
– Her slaps especially really hurts me. my skin is stained red. but I manage to keep my cool. I'm no Lil frosh. I tricked her and managed to run outside to calm the atmosphere, she chases me but I outrun her. she can't keep up, so she goes back in.
– Come to think of it, I ran out of my own apartment, that I pay for? wow (it's a first experience for me)
– She tells me she poured water in all my electronics while I was away, she says it without remorse with a smile.
– My lappy way I get stuffs on, way I put for wardrobe this girl get mind put am for inside water. my heart first cut, I swear my eye red o and at the same time I won cry. I suppose the purpose of this thread was to make you appear like someone with a good level of self-control, yes? Well, I will disappoint you... not because I want to talk down on you, but because I need to draw your attention to your very obvious cognitive dissonance. What you have successfully proven here is that you are someone who can be taken for a ride, someone who can be exploited... And for the fact that you have somehow convinced yourself that you're a gentleman, makes you quite unable to see/observe it about yourself. I have a good feeling that apart from this girl in the story, you are also surrounded by people who you seem to always let get away with disrespecting you – maybe your siblings, colleagues, friends, or neighbours. My point here is, DON'T KID YOURSELF... It is not self-control or maturity when you let people take a ride on you, it is a lack of worth... you simply don't value yourself enough. I'm not going to say you should have hit her back, drew some blood, or help her lose some teeth... Fück no. But you see, you should have made her pay for those damages in any way possible. Besides, the fact that she even had the guts to do all of that destruction in the first place already tells me a lot about your kind of person and the type of relationship you have with her. I understand that you are who you are, and everyone can't be a hard-nut BUT damnit develop some self-respect mahn... The last time anything close to this happened to me in a relationship I was in (some time ago), we were not really fighting... just having one of those arguments that resulted in some pillow-throwing. Then she mistakenly, I mean MISTAKENLY cracked the screen of my tablet PC.. and oh dear, she spent the rest of that day trying to make up for that blunder. There are some things you shouldn't just tolerate, it's not about being calm or gentle... It's just common sense. |
