MySolace: Wot vague knowledge are u talking about? Plz dont mistake or mix spiriuality wit morality, deyre different.
I said and reitrate, african parents should "step down" on religion and focus on bringing up problem solving individuals. Unreligious people are even more useful to mankind than the socalled religious ones.
I acknowledge ur type already. Those would see my take as attacking d body of christ, so i understand. Even our pagan great grandparents had far more humanity, creativity and integrity than the religious zealots of nowadays. Which church taught Berners-Lee, Zuckerberg, Jobs, Gates and others to create the tech we all enjoy today? |

YourGFsnatcher: Nigerians will always lose their values faster than speed of light in new environments that's doing better than theirs The same generation that was dragged to church are the corrupt politicians that ran Nigeria down. If all that religiosity was that great, 9ja should be El Dorado by now. As we do ITK reach, no light, no road, Boko and nonsense. Hypocrisy. |

garfield1: You are seeing it clearly.the oba can only support akpata discreetly he won't come out openly His father was a palace chief and very good one too. Oba knows how dirty politics is and as a seasoned diplomat, he only advises politicians. Oba will not instruct anybody who to vote. Nobody does tacit support. Edo has some of the most sophisticated voters. What we saw in Benin, Lagos and Abuja in 2023 presidential election were not instructed by Oba of Benin. Those three places just have some of the most single-minded, educated and sophisticated voters. This is the future trend where politicians must sit up and take the youth seriously. |

sleek214: Na you wan defeat obaseki? The election is between APC and PDP. LP will come a distant 3rd. LP candidate is not popular and his tribe is a minority in Edo State Dude, Akpata is not a minority in Edo. A lot of Edo n'Ekue families are integral part of Benin. His late father was Commissioner of Education in Bendel State and later a chief at the palace of Oba of Benin as the Ima/Imaran/war general of Benin Kingdom. Oba of Benin does not award titles to those without very strong Edo ties, not even present or former Nigeria presidents, top politicians or even Joe Biden. His father was also at Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) working with Buhari, late Dora Akunyili, etc. The upgraded University of Education at Ekiadolor has been named after his father, late Chief Tayo Akpata. Let's vote based on issues, capacity, ability to articulate manifesto and not ethnic or divide and rule stuff. |

Dannydavito: I remembered that year. The wife was cashing out from him and be betting in another man. Furious by the act he kpai his wife and went to jail He was acquitted. No jail. If prosecutors had charged him for manslaughter, he might have gone to jail. The gloves that didn't fit made murder conviction too big and too unsafe. Only years later he went to jail for alleged robbery/kidnap. He wanted to foolishly go and retrieve old memorabilia. When he should have known the powers that be have been waiting for any slight opportunity to nail him for anything. |

Yes, they are ALL still important.
Some are taught in some areas but funding is poor.
Economically, these languages are still used in rural areas (where over 50% of Nigerians still live) for communication and commerce.
Yes, ready to learn more for free or even pay.
Personally, certainly for Edo/Benin (and other Edoid languages like Urhobo/Isoko, Esan, Afemai, etc) Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo.
BUT colonial mentality and elitist behaviour of educated parents make them believe that English is superior. It is not.
Seun, Myndd and mods, FT please. This is about our culture. |

Food › Re: Igbo Soups All Nigerian Tribes Enjoy by Dancebreaker: 7:17pm On Apr 01, 2024 |
Emu4life: I used to think they are South Southern soups. My dear, they are o. In Edo, the soup was not even called egusi by locals. My late grandma wouldn't have known what egusi meant. It's called ogi soup in Edo. Or ikpogi (ogi seeds). It can be cooked with cotton wool leaves, scented leaves, bitter leaves, water leaf, pumpkin leaf, veg leaf, young cocoa tree (not cocoyam) leaves, etc. Can even be blended with freshly plucked oziza (black pepper) leaves depending on season and delicacy desired. She had no idea what ugwu leaf meant. Edo call it umwenken leaf. She did not know about ogbono. She knew it as ohere. We had ogbono/ohere trees that were like 70 years old in Edo back then. She used to dry and crack the ohere pods open. She died in the 1970s. When Igbo began opening restaurants, being highly migratory, and pidgin became more widespread in urban areas, you began hearing igbo names of various soups. Suddenly they say they all belong to igbo. Na wa o. |
