Unseen Rare Owl Makes First Public Appearance in 150 years (photos)- IFLSCIENCE.

The Shelley’s eagle owl (Bubo shelleyi) swooped back into the public eye after a 150-year hiatus, making its long-awaited reappearance in Ghana. The species, dubbed the “holy grail” of giant owls, has evidently been lurking in the shadows of African rainforests for the last 150 years, having not been formally sighted since the 1870s. 

Though large, these birds are well camouflaged for arboreal life and so it would still have been easy to miss. Thankfully, this particular individual didn’t go unnoticed by Dr Joseph Tobias from the Department of Life Sciences at Imperial College London, and freelance ecologist Dr Robert Williams, who managed to secure a fitting profile shot.

“It was so large, at first we thought it was an eagle,” Dr Tobias said in a statement. “Luckily it perched on a low branch and when we lifted our binoculars our jaws dropped. There is no other owl in Africa’s rainforests that big."

The photo was able to confirm the Shelley’s eagle owl’s identity owing to the bird exhibiting its characteristic features, which include distinctive black eyes, a yellow bill, and its enormous size. The species is currently considered to be vulnerable to extinction, with its key threats including habitat degradation due to human activity. With a population that’s estimated to sit at just a few thousand members, conservationists hope the owl’s latest appearance will motivate fresh efforts to save the species.

Dr. Benard Adedotun Omoyeni was born on the 1st of July 1971 in Oka Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, to the family of Pa Julius Omoyeni (JP) and Mrs Regina Omoyeni (JP).

He holds a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) Degree in Fisheries and Wildlife from the University of Technology, Akure (1997); a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Maiduguri (2001); a Master of Science (MSc) Degree in Environmental Management (MEM) from Federal University of Agriculture(, Abeokuta (2004), a Master of Science (MSc) Degree in Geographic Information System (GIS) from University of Ibadan, (2005), and currently rounding up his PhD Degree in Environmental Management at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

Benard Omoyeni holds a Doctor of Business Administration (Honoris Causa) and Master Class in Business and Leadership from the prestigious Commonwealth University and London Graduate School UK respectively in Dec 2019.

Dr. Benard began his career as Lecturer with the Federal College of Freshwater Fisheries Technology, Baga – Maiduguri in Borno State in February 1999 few months after his completion of the one year Mandatary National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) where he worked for seven years serving in various capacities in academic and administrative functions as Lecturer/Research Officer,
HOD, Director of Studies and Acting Provost before joining a multinational oil and gas company in Lagos as Environmental Specialist in November 2005 where he has been working till date.

He is the Author of the renowned EIA book titled: Principles and Application of Environmental Impact Assessment, a book that is widely circulated among the tertiary institutions of learning in Nigeria and accepted for sales on Amazon.com.
He is an entrepreneur and industrialist sitting on the board of two private organizations as Chairman and Executive Director respectively.

He is the founder and CEO of Palmadex Global Integrated Services Ltd, an award-winning export company which major in export of non – oil agricultural products and raw materials to Europe, Asia, Middle East and America as well as provision of Export investment and consultancy services.

Dr. Benard Omoyeni has continued to demonstrate his love for God and humanity by empowering many families and individuals to start up SME businesses, trades and vocational jobs to alleviating poverty in the lives of the people.

Tropical Cyclone Sidr was one of the worst natural disasters to hit Bangladesh, a south Asian country on the east of India.

The storm made landfall in the country on Nov. 15, 2007, prompting large-scale evacuations. When Sidr hit, Bangladesh was hammered by peak 1-minute sustained winds of 260 km/h (160 m.p.h.), making it a Category-5.

Coastal districts of Bangladesh faced soaking rains ahead of the actual impact of the cyclone. While the storm surge reached a height of three metres (9.8 feet) in most places, the larger cities of Patuakhali, Barguna and Jhalokati District experienced a surge exceeding five metres (16 ft).

Since the storm surge is most deadly and destructive along coastal areas, it triggered panic in the massive fishing community. More than 3,000 fishermen were reported missing from 500 fishing boats. The local agricultural industry was also devastated, as many rice crops were totally wiped out.

The total dollar losses reached an estimated equivalent to US$2.31 billion. And at least 3,447 deaths have been blamed directly on the storm, with some estimates reaching 15,000.

I believe in Sexual purity because Jesus instructed us to.

I mean, why have sexual practices in a hiding place or hotel or somewhere you think no one will see you when you can do it in the open( your matrimonial home) with the spouse of your youth, when you go through the normal process by first of all going to the alter with him or her to take the vow of loving him or her till death do you part.

Sexual Purity is not just about no sex but it’s also about anything that can lead you to committing sexual sins e.g Cuddling, Touching in sensitive parts, Kissing, etc.

These days we have alot of single mother’s who made wrong decisions in the beginning and end up having to cope with taking care of those children on their own because the so called father of the child denied having anything to do with the woman. That aside, alot of young ladies out there end up destroying their future with unwanted pregnancies thereby leading to Abortion from there, they may die if its not even done well or destroy their womb which is even worse because by the time you finally meet the right person you put that person in a bad state. To have children becomes an issue because you have eaten the “food” that wasn’t meant for you. You will now start saying your village people are chasing you… My Dear its not your village people! It’s you who is the Enemy of your soul.

Nigerians have reacted to the series of post by an ex-beauty queen, one Precious Chinwendu over skin trouble she is currently battling.

Responding to her posts, a fan, Chidiebere accused her of sleeping around with many men which led to the disease which is now manifesting as a result.

Chidiebere recalled how she was spotted at a night club in Kubwa area of Abuja with two boys suspected to be internet fraudsters, saying they probably have used her or infected her with the deadly HIV virus which is now manifesting as a skin disease.

Recall how precious chikwendu was quoted to have said that many dermatologists from all corners of the world said there is no cure for the skin trouble which she is now covering up to be results of allergies.

Another Nigerian, Ngozi Alozie, noted that promiscuity could have been the result. She notes that while she was with her ex-husband, FFK, she never had such ailment but since she has engaged in promiscuous lifestyle her life has been worse of it.

A dermatologists who spoke to our correspondent, claimed that the ailment is skin cancer and she may not survive it. He said it is psoriasis which is a deadly skin disease and kill her any time soon.

Meanwhile, Ex-beauty queen Precious Chikwendu has revealed how she battles strange and rare skin disease recently.

The ex-wife of the former aviation minister, FFK, revealed via series of post on social media the state of her illness which she claimed in a reaction to a comment that “my tea was poisoned by a jealous friend while in school”.

She said, having to deal with a sensitive skin has been one disadvantage of being snowhite. Aside from strange allergy which had arises from change in weather, water environment, I noticed a strange allergy which had common symptoms with psoriasis or endemic eczema January this year. It appeared like rashes and latter metamorphoses into huge boils spreading to other parts in a blink.” The ex beauty queen wrote.

According to Precious, herbs and medications from all corners of the world have been used; while it helped at some point, the strange ailment has continued to spread across her body.”

But allaying fears of any danger, Precious, reacting to a comment by her fans confirmed the skin disease, which some dermatologists claimed has no cure but she has done well to contain it through drinking lots of water and watching what she eats.
“This is not psoriasis as I had several biopsies done in years. They’ve called it 4 different names with no cure but everyone says one thing in common — it is an allergy and it could’ve been triggered by some antibiotics, water, weather and environment. I drink lots of water and take vitamins to boost my immune system” she wrote.
