However, whilst I believe that the OP doesn't owe his friend anything, he still should've given him the 1k for transportation ...

Cause the said friend prolly had no one he could source for funds maybe due to the timing or something, we don't his exact situation at that point in time ...

But what we do know from the write up is that Giving that guy 1k for transportation was within the means of the OP and that's a fact! ...

Again, the OP doesn't owe his friend anything but before we call the said friend all sorts of names, we should first ask ourselves, did the OP exhaust every possible means to helping his friend and it proved abortive? ...

If the OP did provide him with a job and with transportation and the guy still did not go, then we can say that the guy is us.eless and doesn't appreciate the efforts of the OP ...
