Yes not unicorns like you stated earlier, but dumb-headed, half baked graduates privileged by politicians grin

That's what "they" tell us. When we keep believing such comments, it limits us already.

At least I personally know at least 5 people who work in the big oil companies (I don't want to mention names) in Lagos and in Port Harcourt. What I noticed is that they had either a 2.1 or first class in some specialized courses like Geology, etc. And they are not sons or nephews of politicians.

People will keep securing these jobs while some others just resign their faith because they have chosen to believe that the jobs are only for politician's relatives.

I don’t think you understand my plight:

I mean what secures a future for your child in a corrupt country like ours after you as a parent leave this world...

Good upbringing and education will only land them 5k teaching jobs in Erinfolami community grammar school or Ochuko high school

Lol @ Erinfolami Community...

I think making the child a well rounded person will go a long way... like learning skills, languages, vocations, etc in addition to a good education.

I still emphasize good education because despite how hard we think it is for a graduate to get a job, it is not unicorns that work in the multinationals and earn big.

And if her business or career is flourishing so much that her success exceeds her husband's, she should suppress it?

A man that feels threatened by his wife's success and tries to suppress it, has issues with his self esteem

I remember after service, I got a job with a start up. My job was to call people everyday to join an "exclusive" club. I didn't even believe in the job.

Even the name of the company was embarrassing that I was ashamed to tell people the name of the company where I worked. Funny enough, he was paying 40k.

I remember the day i resigned 22 April 2010 because it was the day Da Grin died.

Couldn't have been better said. Do yo live abroad? Cos you hit the nail on the head. People don't have helps here because it is expensive, and the ones who can afford it do get it. I have a 1 and half year old and I know how difficult it was to cope, I had my mum come to help for 8months and my mother inlaw currently helping, and will keep recycling our mothers visits to assist I and my mrs. also add daycare 2days in a week. It's not easy las las and people find it easy to jump to conclusions about why others make the decisions they do without knowin fully well people have different circumstances they are dealing with, and nobody knows it all or there's no particular way of doing one thing.
They are quick to say that women are lazy. One person made a comment saying "you married a lazy wife".

My child is also 1 plus. I work on the Island and live on the mainland and I don't have a maid. The reason we are even coping without a maid is because my husband is very hands on and supportive. I can't say that for many Nigerian men.

Having a maid is just extra help. People here need to stop shaming people that have one

Sincerely speaking abi nah typing I'm scared of having kids, I literally panic at the thought of it cos everything is just wrong in the world cry
Just be involved and observant. If you want to get a maid, get an elderly lady. Even with a maid, don't leave everything concerning your child for her to do.

Spend quality time with your child. These times when mum and dad have to work to make a living, when you get back, spend time with them.

It's also very important to pray that the only One that can keep them from evil will continually protect them.

I don't mean to gloat over your son's misfortune but this is what happens when a mother leaves the raising of her children to outsiders. Let me guess your wife is too busy to take care of the kids right? Because shes a "modern working class woman".

Go and ask women abroad how they manage to work full time and still raise their own children without househelp. Unlike these ones in Nigeria who after just one child, they can't do chores again. House helps are then put in place to assume the duties of a wife and mother.

Your son is one of many children out there suffering the consequences of these lifestyle choices.
You can't even compare both. The available facilities are different and also the flexible working arrangement. Abroad, the husband and wife might be working alternative hours which gives them time to be with the kids. The ones that can afford it, get nannies. Even my inlaw in the US has a nanny
Romance › Re: When Love Becomes Sour In Marriage by ImaIma1(f): 6:34pm On Jul 15, 2019
Love is not enough.

You need:

Good communication... being able to discuss anything and everything.

Respect...not just for the men.

Not taking each other for granted.

Being responsible for your partner... genuinely caring about his or her welfare.

Treating your spouse specially and being creative... planning small surprises here and there, watch a movie together at home or cinema.

Watch each others' TV shows, sports, etc even if you are not a fan. Doing things together.

Respect family members and discuss difficult or problematic ones or situations that arise from them

Marriage is plenty work. It's better to be single than venture into it if you are selfish.

There are jobs and there are corporate jobs!
I've been to three offices at Victoria island and ikoyi while working as a logistics officer for a building construction company.
Apart from the decent amount of money these folks get at the end of the month, they were given flexibility to either resume by 8am and close by 4pm or 9-5pm and weekends are off except you've got unfinished tasks during the week.
These people apply for a year sabbatical to go study abroad and when they return their jobs are safe.
They take time off work during the week to attend to their issues and come back later in the day to do their daily activities .
There are still good jobs in this country, the sorts that makes a 40yr old look like a 28 yr old.
May God connect us to our destiny helpers.
I can relate.

The wedding is usually done in the bride's church and afterwards, she starts attending your church.

But it's always better for Catholics to marry each other to avoids issues like this because they hardly ever leave their church.

I feel you should understand her feelings towards those who paid for her to be desirable enough for you to marry her (I'm assuming her education is a desirable of yours), especially since they are not her parents. They paid the piper in this instance so they ought to be allowed to chose the tune. Marry in a Catholic Church and continue going to your own church. If she loves you as much as she seems to do she'll get over it.

I got to say though that my position was the opposite in a thread where someone was going to take a job without marrying the girl who's family got it him. There, I said it was deceptive but here to hell with it.
I don't believe they own her because they paid or contributed towards her life.

She still has the right as a human being and an adult to make decisions especially on matters that concerns a man that she will spend the rest of her life with.

I don't like when someone has to be forever liable or indebted to another person because of help that was rendered. The helper should not put the helped in a difficult position. It is still her life.

Men go through a lot but don't talk about it because we've been brought up to believe that's the "manly" thing to do. But you ladies, you let the whole world know what happened to you and how xyz broke your heart and did bla bla bla. That's why most people believe it's guys that cheat more whereas it's the exact opposite.

I have been smart about it mate.

Whenever I am in the country, I use Uber. I dunno the craze for guys with cars in Nigeria by “Some Nigerian ladies”

It’s like another day in the office abroad. You can split the bill monthly and pay.

No big deal. Nobody will look at you if you are 18 and drive a car here.

Chaiii.
Women like comfort.

The ones that get freaked about a guy with a car are most likely the ones that are looking for a ticket out of poverty or the ones looking for an unofficial personal driver.

We have focused ladies who work hard for their money. Nigerian women are in classes. They can't all be lumped in one bucket.

Just the way we have Nigerian men who are scammers, dishonest, verbally abusive, gold diggers, even on this forum, doesn't mean we don't have responsible and sane Nigerian men.

Sometimes we should focus on and appreciate the positives instead of constantly dwelling on the negatives
