Godoverevery: typical woman response... respect which space
Her family will have free access to the space and mine won't??
You want me to respond as a man?
There's no competition as to whether it is husband or wife's family that has access. I can easily scold my sibling to wash his plate or take his legs off the chair or to go help me do the dishes.
But with my inlaw of the same age, I have to walk on pins not to offend him so that he doesn't have stories to tell the family when he gets home. He might expect me to serve him amd pack his plates.
So if you were to pick one, who would you pick? I am realistic not sentimental. If my husband has a sibling that is agreeable and I relate with better than with mine, I will readily pick that one. I don't need my life harder but easier.
Godoverevery: that the problem....am sure you will do same when you get married. is her home meant for her relatives while the husband relatives are now intruders.
Well my mum is also guilty but I told her to her face it was wrong.
I am married and I don't have inlaws or my family staying with us. And when my inlaws come around, they ask when they need something. They won't just do anything because it's their brother's house.
My people tend to understand that aspect of marriage. Because even when we visit our brother's house, we all act like we are at the mercy of his wife. She's the one that now tells us to stop behaving like visitors and enter the kitchen and help ourselves.
When there's mutual respect for each other's place in the family, there will be peace and not competition.
Godoverevery: My question.....why is always an issue if is the husband relative
So because am married my family can't have access to my house anymore
Like I said is foolish men that takes such.
When a man gets married, that house becomes his wife's home more than his siblings'. But it is a hard pill to swallow by the family. They cannot just come in and do as they like anymore. It's common sense.
When I visit my brother's house then, I maintain my lane. I ask his wife's opinion on things before I do it. Even after I cook for the family, I still ask her to dish the food for me. It is her house.
If everyone is doing well financially, no one will have time to disturb their brother's wife because they will be busy with their own lives.
How do we know what the truth is? It didn't seem like it was the cooking in her kitchen and serving his friend that was the issue.
The OP was obviously economical with the whole truth. Someone who has such entitlement mentality about his brother's acquisitions.
Does he treat his brother's wife with respect or he treats her like a leech that came to take his place in his brother's house?
It is not news that some wives can be territorial especially with husband's family. Everyone should learn to respect each other's space.
All this husband's family fighting the wife is becoming old. Left to some, the won't allow their brother get married so that they can have his undivided attention.
RisenPhoenix1: As long as neither promised to marry the other, I don't see the big deal. Why isn't she being considered as the one who wasted someone's son's precious time?
It's better to define it clearly that you are both just fooling around..so that no one has marriage as the end goal and now feels cheated and let down later.
24kmagic: I hope and pray for a good sister in-law in the future, I really do. But in the event that we don't like each other, there's going to be some serious troubles.
I will try as much as possible not to encroach her space. But in the case of kitchen affairs, she dare not.
Who told women that the kitchen belongs to them only? As if they even know how to cook mtcheew. If my sister in-law tries this rubbish with me, I will make sure I frustrate her life as long as I live.
She'll never wish to step into our family house again I swear. Even that my brother I will deal with him.
The only people I will spare are their kids.
But both my brother and his wife will not have a happy marriage, cos I will turn the whole family against them.
Rubbish.
Hahahaha! See you already fighting what has not even come. You see how troublesome inlaws can be that they are already setting traps for the wife that has not been married.
Somewhere else, someone is also making this declarations about her to-be inlaw and how she will break your marriage . Karma is not always far.
Richy4: I can just imagine what would have happened assuming OP dished out the food she (the sister in law) prepared by herself to his friend ... His luggage would have been at the entrance gate to their estate.. .
All we wanted for them is peace my brother nothing more..
what I disliked in some people's attitude here on Nairaland is that sometimes they seems good at playing 'culture card' when it suits them perfectly.. like in this case, majority have already became Europeans all of a sudden, They have started forming nuclear family on OP.. they have seen OP as someone who has committed a great taboo by staying with his married Elder brother... But did the African culture permits that? that's a question for another day...
But when situation shifts bases, and sh!t hits the roof in a relationship between married couple,, the same people dishing out Europeans style advise; that were forming nuclear family will be like why not call his family, don't u have uncle, sister, bla bla bla..They just remembered African culture when it feels convenient...It's just annoying..
It's important to discuss these things before marriage. Especially about having family live in. There's nothing wrong with spending weekend, spending some time but living with them can be a problem. The wife needs privacy rather than have someone monitoring her.
I commented some weeks back about how I was praying for omugwo to be over so my MIL could go because she used to monitor me; complain about everything., my stew is too thick, i eat groundnut a lot, etc.
Living in peace should not be hard when people respect each other's space. When I was single and I visited my brother's house, the wife would happily leave the kitchen for me to cook for them. Even after I cook, I still call her to dish for me.
It's her house and respect is important. There's no competition. I have my place in my brother's heart and she does too...simple.
emi1000: Why can't we just live in peace in this world? Your brother's wife is now part of your family, there should be peace and love between the both families, op I'm not saying you are at fault o, I'm just wondering why people keep having issues with their brother's wife, it baffles me
Many things involved. The money he sends will reduce because he now has a family. But his siblings might not be able to deal with that. They will see her as a leech/ intruder that has come to reduce their ration.
Recently, I was under fire from my husband's brother because my husband wasn't supposedly sending money as they wanted. He sent me voice notes with unprintable words. I ignored all but kept it for future reference. He went as far as threatening our child.
Eventually, they realized that my husband was actually sending money but their mum wasn't declaring everything. But she kept quiet and allowed them blame me.
As long as the family depends on the man, there will always be problems with the wife. It is how to deal with the problems that we have to face.
freetheking: I'm so sorry that she throw your belongings out of the house of which I know it's not good. Secondly, you did not behave well by going to her pot without her concent. Let me tell you this and every other person reading thread, there are two things that women don't tolerate.
(1) Going to her pot without her concent.
(2) Interfering in the matter that concerns her and her husband. You will be a good brother in-law or sister in-law.
Some inlaws don't understand this. They feel it's their brother's house and they were there before the wife. So they have more rights in the house.
Gang90: You are so myopic that you think marriage is the most important thing in life, I had given you reasons, for my disgusts, deal with it or locate the closest transformer, and hang yourself with naked wire. Don't go and focus on your life, keep trying to defined for another person what should disgust him and what should not, I had moved on
From your complaints and outbursts, it shows you are still a young boy. When you are older, you will be more enlightened and wiser in some areas that you lack right now. Enjoy your moving on, disgusted fellow.
Gang90: Why would my brother disgusts me, these things looks simple to you but it disgusts me, and as she keeps doing stuff like that the rate of disgust increases, there are aspects that my brother is not cool in but those are minor for instance my brother knows how to lose phone charger, even when charger is cheap, in a month he can loose like 3 phone chargers, he will go out with the cord to use in the car and before long he won't come back with it, but that's weird, I can't say he's careless becuase he had never lost his car key or misplace money, but thats not disgusting.
You choose who and what disgusts you.
It seems you have a problem with your brother's wife and it goes beyond having sex on your bed.
Just look for a place to rent and stay on your own so that no one can disgust you. As it is, you might cause problems in that marriage if you stay.
Gang90: You need to be specific, if you keep doing things that disgust me, at a point you begin to look disgusting, it depends, I had told you what disgust me in particular, and I had told you that after sex they took their baths, so why would they leave the room dirty, is it healthy for her to go make food right after sex, both her and my brother took their bath so why wont they wash the sheet, focus on the issue at hand, by the way I left the house since yesterday, currently in another town
You have been saying she disgusts you, and it didn't sound like it was just because of the sex in "your room". And you castigated her so much absorbing your brother of blame. He doesn't disgust you.
What's wrong in cooking right after sex? I didn't know one had to do 3 days cleansing before being allowed to cook.
If you feel this bad about it all, why not tell her? And if you cannot tell her, don't insult her at her back.
Gang90: Who is talking about grown here, I'm talking about tonight, where I'm I going to sleep, washing it is not the problem, I can get a new one tomorrow or get the dry cleaner to come pick it up and wash, I'm talking about today, where should I sleep, i had told you that sex from strange people disgusts me, so it not about pick it up and wash, that bedsheet currently looks like puke to me, or even worse
You keep going on and on about hownyour sister inlaw disgusts you. That is your brother's wife that you detest.
Do you eat the food she cooks or it disgusts you too?
You are claiming room rights in someone's matrimonial home.
sloo1: The truth is your might be a good person but you have not been a good wife. I will give you reasons when I wake up.
The problems:
You are jealous, insecure and a bit arrogant.
The circumstances surrounding you wedding - your pregnancy, rejection by your family, your perceived inlaws perception of you, made you insecure.
You are jealous of your husbands attention to his family and you are either arrogant or suffering from inferiority complex or both.
The solution:
Love and respect those whom your husband love - his family. Engage his siblings in healthy conversations. Made them your friends. Show them care and love. Sometimes join their conversation with your husband. Remember that your husband has been showing such care and love to his family long before he met you.
Work on acquiring a humble heart. Asking your brother in-law to wash his plate when you and your sister are there is example of your arrogant or inferiority complex in action. From your description of him he is not a small boy. Does your husband wash his own plates too.
If you become humble and stop thinking much of yourself you will be at peace with yourself and will be a lovely woman to both your husband and in-laws.
Your husband also needs advice but since he is not here no need to go on
What are you saying?
When a man is married, his wife and children come first. If he treats his siblings and his mum better than his own wife and kids, he has a serious problem.
It doesn't matter if his family was there before her. As long as he decided to build his own family, his obligation is first to them. If he still wanted to be joined to his parents and siblings, he shouldn't have bothered with marriage.
Marriage is for men and from her summation, the husband is a boy.
Justkatty: This just made me laugh and also made me remember what used to happen between my brother and I, We always have to quarrel whenever he comes back and see his shirt on me, reason being that, I always expand the front of shirt and most times even remove one button because am busty. But he wasn't finding it funny again, so I had to stop. So, Mister just try to get more shirts and you can actually leave some for her.
I can relate. I used to steal my brother's boxers. At a point, he would just randomly give me a pair so that I wouldn't steal his favourites
NextD18: I can't remember saying such, but even if I did said such, marrying down doesn't necessarily mean you should hunt a life partner from a very poor and broke family.
You can marry from a comfortable family that is still financially beneath you.
And what if the guy is poor and with a poor family? Does he have to marry from a poorer family?
LordKO: ImaIma1 avoid drift from humanity to chauvinism. There's a difference between "judging" and "advice." When someone comes for the former, it's normal for some people to ask what happened, while in the latter, almost everyone will state their opinion based on the information available.
LordKO there's no chauvinism here. Not one of you men even bothered to ask what the wife did but are already saying..."don't eat her food", "don't speak to her" ...
My point is that if a woman was the one who opened the thread, these sane guys would ask what the husband did (something they don't care to ask here) and they will still turn it around and make it her fault.
KosiGee: Go and make peace with your wife. Sit down and talk like you’ve always done. Stop asking for ways to punish your fellow human being. If it’s not working for the both of you...separate, divorce...go your separate ways in peace.
Asking for ways “to punish” your wife sounds silly and very disrespectful.
She could as well come online to ask for help on how to punish you. How would you feel? Treat others the way you want to be treated. Treat people with respect.
All you people dropping suggestions to him, have you asked him what the wife has done to him to warrant the awkward help he is soliciting online?
Once it's a woman, they don't bother to ask. The fault must be her's. If a woman had opened the thread to ask for ways to punish her husband, they would have been asking what he did, and what she did that made him do what he did.
helinues: If a woman feels less concerned that her husband is not eating from home, then lots are wrong with such woman except if there is no love/joy in the marriage
Don't you think there is more wrong with a husband who tries to "punish" his wife by refusing to eat? Where is the love?
These days women don't let it bother them at all. When he's tired of eating out, he will resume eating at home by himself.
southniyikaye: Whosoever wrote this trash is Senseless.. If ladies don't give out their bodies for money or material things, no guys will not sleep around.. We are in a generation where being naked to entice followership, monetary gain and money is the order of the day... On WhatsApp and Facebook status, they use affiliate marketing as cover up for their olosho businesses.. After every advert, they also advertise their unclothedness... What brought about the issue of paternity today? Some girls bleeps for fun Money Monetary gains.. Everyone of them wants to be like and live like Bobrisky forgetting Bobrisky is a smart businessman.. Bob gave an advice (a useless one at that) some days ago, I was surprised the numbers of braindead endorsing such advice, it shows how very shallow our girls reason
And you must fall abi. If you fall to the temptation, you are part of the problem.
BluntCrazeMan: Na Waa Ooo. Why would the NIN demand that the name on the BVN should be changed first? NIN doesn't require BVN.. Rather, it is BVN that requires NIN. .. Why is it that our Nigerian system and our Government always making things very difficult for the citizens? Who did we offend in this country? Na Waaa Ooo..!! I can relate very well.
My saving grace was that I had not registered for NIN. So when I went to do it, I used my husband's surname straight. Then I took the slip to the bank and updated my bvn and account.
iamrealdeji: Only God knows how you would also behave in marriage. If you are not a virgin, you have no right to say all these, you are likely to do even worse. Most girls have given all they should reserve for their husbands to their ex boyfriends. I know a bros that knacked his ex-girlfriend on her wedding night
The man has had enough. Looks like this was the climax of things that had been building up.
What right does his MIL have to refuse him access to his own children? It makes no sense. The wife should be able to caution her mother and let her know her place.
Obviously a loose and irresponsible woman. She even walked out of her marriage leaving her children. She had the guts to leave another man's children for her ex-husband to care for...no conscience.
She thinks she is enjoying her life now. Her old age will come and she will look for those children. Sadly enough, they will come to her aid. I just hope that they will care for their stepmother more than they will for the irresponsible mother.
