greenhulk: God bless u. Some people will just be here talking rubbish. Fixing a car at dealership is very expensive, they don't fix, they replace and give u huge bills, sometimes bills bigger than what the car actually worth be that is why many cars are sold as salvage once they are outside warranty. / You go to a dealership, they charge $80 to diagnose. Then by some National standard rate, they tell you that a particular job takes x hours to complete. Multiply the hours by $70/hr. So diagnosis and a standard 3hours job sets the owner back $290 before tax just for the labour. Of course, they will show up with a list of other things that may need to be checked then or soon. If the car is still under warranty, they look for any kind of modification to void the warranty. The owner will be screwed. Add the inflated cost of auto parts and each trip will end up costing a minimum of $500. Cars are pain in the rear. A blown head gasket can set the owner back an easy $900 (N320k) on older cars. / |

luxy44: Which brand brake-pad are you looking for? Is land rover, bmw or mercedes?? You guys just write whatever comes to una head.. You need to stop believing those local mechanic and do some research on your own. Even the toyotas, they can't fix! Lazy people everywhere. If you live in Lagos, that's ok. I have had minor issues and been temporarily stranded in Ekwulobia, Lokoja and Abuja (of all places). In 2011, my car was left in a hotel in Abuja for almost a week until a replacement gearbox was brought from Lagos. The guy they claimed to be the best around the Central district wasn't of much help either. It was one "Kazeem" of a guy with my technical knowledge + google + youtube that got the car going. There are some problems even the so-called dealership cannot fix after repeated visits in the western world. Actually if you go on google or yelp, you will read many complaints customers have against car dealerships per inability to fix faults in their cars. And in Nigeria, do you remember a case of a Nigerian player that Coscharis couldn't fix his X6 a few years back and the wahala it generated? The saving grace for dealerships is that most times they don't fix, they replace. In southern California, most auto repair shops will not touch European brands (Mercedes, BMW, Audi, etc.). They refer owners to the dealership or designated repair shops. You pull up, they just tell the owner straight up that they don't work on European cars. Even for something like just changing spark plugs. Go figure! It is not limited to Nigeria. / |

A seemingly little thing like finding brake pads on some cars is a problem. Why would anyone go through that hassle? Take a trip to mechanic workshops in your area, there are newer cars that look abandoned by owners because the spare parts have to be shipped from abroad. If the locals stock such parts, there is not enough turnover to make it profitable. There are some cars the owners dare not drive to their villages because there are no parts or knowledgeable mechanics to fix them.
Even the so-called "big men" have their fair share of trials and tribulations to get their cars working efficiently. / |

FutureLeader00: Let me not bother you with too much stories, I will keep it short and concise.
My girlfriend has been acting strange lately and I couldn't find the reason why she's doing so. We started dating last year while I was still looking for admission, things has been going smoothly for us not until after ileya festival.
Before then, she celebrated her birthday on the 23rd of August this year had to sent a message to wish her, although I was around for ileya holiday as we both live in ibadan but am schooling in osun state. She came to visit me on ileya festival(friday) which we talk extensively about her birthday, we both discuss on how to celebrate her birthday since I wasn't around then so we resorted to go to the cinema and have some few drinks.
Also, I promised to get her some women undies as a gifts before I left for school.
I ought to have been in school by now because the festive holiday has come and gone but have told her that I would love to spend some days with her before I leave. Before she left my house of friday I asked where she will be for the weekend, she told me she won't be around on saturday but sunday will be okay so I made up my mind to visit her on sunday and use the opportunity to see her mom and sibling.
I called on saturday to check on her but she inform me that she couldn't go out due to headache, the following day which was sunday I called her severally she didn't pick my call neither return all the messages I sent to her not until yesterday when she picked and told me that she intentionally not to pick my call because I wasn't caring enough for her. Asjed her what exactly have I done wrong, she said I didn't care for her meanwhile have been calling since sunday just to check on her but she didn't pick my call, mehn I was shocked!!.
As a gentle guy wey I be I asked for frogiveness and repeatedly told her "I'm very sorry" countless of time she cut off the line on three occassion, I was very furious by her action yet I keep cool had to call her once again she told me there's nothing she wants to discuss with me anymore except what she just did.
Till now, she hasn't pick all call neither reply my messages.
Now, have bought those things I promise to get her like pads, panties, bra, bum-short, and those girly things I even sent a text to inform her that have gotten her my promises she didn't reply me.
Pls I need your advice on how to go about this because it making me so sad.

missloluwa: Hey guys,
I'm in my mid 20's and i've been working for a few years now, my current salary is very decent and i'm striving to earn more. Obviously at my age, i'm thinking of the long term which obviously includes my career but i'm also looking forward to and marriage and kids. However, the vast majority of guys i've met are either not ready for the long term, or they're still in their 'struggling' phase.
Is it bad that I want someone who is at least on the same level as me, or maybe even slightly below? Am I a 'gold-digger' because i don't really want to 'eat garri' with a guy before he blows? I've dated these guys before but even till now their level hasn't changed much despite all their talk about potential.
I don't mind having to split the bill once in a while or even contribute but i'm a lady that's used to certain tastes. My family isn't Dangote rich but we're doing quite well, and i'd like to continue living that life or at least not drop too far below. What do you guys think? Do I keep looking for these 'almost/made guys'(can anyone tell me where to find them? lol) or do I settle for a struggler. Tough one! It is difficult to determine success in Nigeria. A banker with a good job could be handed a pink slip any time. An importer could fall under the weight of Customs' indecision. A contractor may be under the weight of unpaid contracts. In other words, being there today is not a guarantee that it will be there tomorrow. Too many uncertainties in Nigeria. Some men started doing better after marriage while once successful men went under after marriage. The future could be unpredictable. Marriage is not just dating. I think prayers would come handy at this time. What you don't need is a man with many excuses. / |

Romance › Re: Nigerian Men Should Stop Making Excuses For Their Financial Inadequacies. by InvertedHammer: 9:08pm On Sep 05, 2017 |
DouglasH92: I've noticed that a lot of Nigerian men, especially on social media always make excuses for their financial inadequacies. Instead of them to keep quiet and focus on becoming financially well off, they will reveal their financial insecurities by demonizing and lambasting any woman who says she would rather date a guy who has money. Most times you will see them making comments like "Women are hoes" Women are gold diggers." "Women should focus on love and not on the financial state of the man" You will even see them saying that women should try to manage with a man who is earning low and should stop aiming too high in terms of the financial capacities of the man they want because money isn't all that matters.
I have also noticed that these kind of men are usually lazy. Most of their time is spent on social media arguing, insulting women and complaining about how women love money so much. And these men are usually frustrated, broke and low achievers. It's not surprising that they are in the financial state they are in. Real men who have money don't complain like they do. They know how the world works and they work hard to be financially successful and they let their financial success speak for them and attract whatever kind of women they want. They don't spend all day on social media casting aspersions on women who prefer a certain kind of lifestyle and men who understand and can provide such lifestyle.
Seriously, if you are such a man I feel really sorry for you. No amount of whining and complaining will change your condition. Leave social media and go and hustle. If you have money you won't have time to worry about what women want. Oprah, Beyonce, Alakija, even Linda Ikeji are women too and they all have one head each. The poor will always be amongst us. A woman that wants a rich husband should find one without rubbing it in the face of poor ones. How rich is rich? Where thousands stop, millions start then billions, trillions ad infinitum. I blame slay queens. If wealth comes from hardwork alone, the guys that offload trailers of cement will be billionaires. / |
Romance › Re: I Am Leaving Behind My Love, For Greener Pastures Abroad. by InvertedHammer: 2:52pm On Sep 05, 2017 |
Drinkwater07: In a dilemma right now, please those experienced in these kind of issues should help me.
I lost my Job at the Nigerian Breweries Last year, While I was working I made up my mind to marry my girlfriend of about 4 years now, this December. Both of us are 30 already, we are so much in love, but my job lost really hampered our marriage plans, because she is just engaged in the Npower scheme now and my cash that I saved have long almost finished right now. The reason I did not go into business with the little money I have at that time about 400k was that My elder brother in Canada promised to send me to Canada to join there. So far he have helped me secure admission for MSc. and payed my full tuition fee and even credited my account for the maintenance which the visa officers will see in my account. He also has the plans of sponsoring me through PHD also in Canada or the UK if I want. Now as I await my Visa, there is a really big issue I am fighting right now to manage.
My brother warned me to forget about any girl I have here in Nigeria, that most of them are fair weather friends, gold diggers and desperados, and that if I have anybody here in Nigeria waiting for me while I am away, that it will be a huge distraction for me. He told me he is speaking out of experience and won't want anybody to distract me while studying and hustling abroad. My girl is definitely none of what he described, she is a very good person and is never after money, She just love so much. I told him that I don't have anybody, This is to avoid him withdrawing his financial support for me or may be doubting my seriousness to succeed.
I was planning to come back and get married to my baby after my MSc, but I don't know how my brother will see it. He will be so disappointed with me, I hold my brother in so much high regard, and right from when I was a child he usually protects me so well and doesn't want anything to hamper my success, I love my girl so much, she is everything you will want in any woman. If I don't marry her I don't think I will be happy with anyone else. None of them is aware of what is bothering. How will I solve this issue. New environment, new experience. She is 30. You are her last hope because she don " enter demurrage". If you really love her, marry her in a registry so that if yoi dare misbehave, she can use that leash to draw you back. There is a 50% chance that if you settle down in Canada, you may trade up just like a poor man who hits a jackpot and decides to marry another wife. It may not happen...but just saying. . |

Otunba2004: good write up bros, I can tell you categorically that Nigeria can never be like this in this our generation,, we are corrupt generation everybody are fighting for his or her own pocket, our problem in this country is very simple " selfish interest" we are too selfish we don't care about other people but"mine"selfishness is in our blood, our leaders always goes to abroad and they all see what is happening over there but bcoz they are so selfish they refused to do right thing. Not necessarily selfish interests. It is lack of responsibilities. In good times, thank God. In bad times, blame the devil. Where is the individual responsibilities? It is nonexistent. L.G Chairmen blame Governors. Governors blame Senators. Senators blame Presidency. Presidency challenges the electorate. And within this chaos, hands are dipped in the cookie jar. Thus giving a sense that no one is in-charge-- the country is on auto-pilot. It is all black people's problem. I challenged anyone to name a peaceful and progressive black nation in the world. Till date, no one could. OBJ wasted 8 years. GEJ wasted 6 years. Buhar's waste may end in 4 years. That's a total of 18 years down the drain. Another usurper will show up for another 4 or 8 years. Yet some people are hoping for a better future on a shaky foundation. Most people on NL will have their grandchildren hoping for the best the same way their parents hoped back in the 80s that Nigeria would be El Dorado by now. I believe that if a Presidential election is held today, Buhari will pull a landslide victory. Not because he is progressive but just for the fact that there is something about sticking their fingers in fire that tickles the fancy of Nigerians. / |
