Tell those wailers that Nigeria is not operating under USA constitution. Nigeria should deal with criminals the way she deems fit. USA jails criminals. Saudi Arabia cuts all the "cuttables". Indonesia beheads them. China kills them. Nigeria should choose what they do with their criminals without looking up to USA. Isn't Nigeria a sovereign nation? If they don't want to be raided in the middle of the night, then they should refrain from giving atrocious judgments with impunity. I advocate firing squad. \ |

Heil Buhari! Sai Baba! / It will not happen because half of the nonsense that goes on in Nigeria would have been dealt with accordingly in US. There are judges that had been convicted and serving jail sentences in US. In 2012, Judge Edwards of Pennsylvania was sentenced to life imprisonment for kickback schemes. Judge Conahan is serving 17 years in a federal prison for corruption. Judge Ciavarella is doing 28 years stint in a federal prison as well. And there are many others. There is a system in place in US unlike in Nigeria where anything goes. Don't forget that with the same evidence, James Ibori was discharged and acquitted until UK stepped in to do the dirty work for Nigeria. The phrase "rule of Law" has been abused so much. \ |

NBA should go on strike, lawyers and judges should avoid the courts, shoe Buhari that where there is no law, there is no crime. If he thinks he can flout and intimidate the democracy we earned as a people, then we have to prove to him that we won't retreat.
This devil-may-care system of governance has to stop. Waiting on the legislators to follow up on this. / If they go on strike, the judges arrested will not get bail. Double wahala for dead body. I wish PMB could sack all the judges with immediate effect. What are they going to do? Take PMB to ECOWAS court? Nigerians need shock to reality like this once in awhile. After 6hrs flight to Dubai, his money expires. And if he meets any of the hostesses after arrival in the airport lounge, she will not be kind enough to throw in extra "sir" that's assuming she greets you at all.

Ogbuefi2020: LMFAO, you want to take them to court and you think their fellow judges will allow you disgrace the judiciary and go free?? The judiciary will definitely protect their own, remember legislators did same and succeeded. / A typical Nigerian is a coward. As a matter of fact, most judges will not want this case in their courts because if they play esprit d' corp and subvert justice, they will get their own midnight raids. This is long overdue. A fellow steals N5b and gets N100m bail. A peasant steals a cellphone and gets 7 years without option of fine. Imagine where an election case is adjourned indefinitely until the respondent's tenure is over. Or is it the conflicting judgments after taking bribes? Where is the justice? The greatest control an employer exerts is the ability to fire recalcitrant and incompetent employees. But in recent years, it has become extremely impossible for government employees to be relieved of their positions resulting in exponential growth in impunity. \ |

omohayek: Here I have to strongly disagree. To compare Obasanjo or any of his successors with IBB and Abacha is to do the democrats a huge disservice: I lived through Decree 4 (when Buhari jailed Ekwueme, Awolowo and many others on zero evidence), the murder of Dele Giwa and the execution of Ken Saro-Wiwa, and nothing since 1999 has compared with the terror of those days.
Nigeria democracy today is far from perfect - in particular, I agree that the brutal suppression of MASSOB and IPOB is a disgrace to freedom of speech and association - but if you think modern technology is what allows for loud criticism of leaders, take a look at Xi Jinping's China, Putin's Russia, or Turkey since Erdogan began his recent purge. / You seem to forget one important factor. Nigerian leaders are intellectually bankrupt and are bereft of imaginative ideas or critical thinking abilities to effectively suppress any technological incursions into their shenanigans. Heck! They couldn't even shut IPOB radio down. I believe you are aware that artificial intelligence is alien to Nigeria leaders. / |

OnucheAdams: I agree with you; democracy has grossly underdeveloped Nigeria. I am all for bringing these justices to book... Out of 42 nations with Presidential system of government, only US is the only thriving one. The rest are countries like Nigeria, Angola, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Burundi, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador. Instead of copying US, Nigerians (as intelligent? and independent? thinkers) should have developed their own system which if effective, could be copied by others. USA politicians are equally corrupt as is expected in any democracy. But when the law catches up with them, it comes with a sledgehammer. Illinois and New Jersey are good examples. But in Nigeria, such corrupt officials are given a slap on the wrist and rewarded with national titles. \ |

omohayek: But would you count Saddam's Iraq, Ghaddafi's Libya or Egypt under Mubarak and Sisi as successful counter-arguments against democracy? Would you wish to be a woman, a non-Muslim or even a Shiite under the Saudi monarchy?
I'm old enough to remember the dictatorships from Buhari to Abubakar, and no matter how rotten Nigeria's current democracy may seem, it is still far better than the military regimes at their worst. At least under a democratic regime one has the freedom to not just complain but even insult bad leaders like GEJ and the "new" Buhari; under the "old" Buhari Decree No. 4 would have seen most of us criticizing him on here summarily detained without charge.
Nigerian democracy is massively flawed due to the ill-educated and tribalistic nature of the Nigerian populace, but the dictatorial alternative has all of the exact same problems without even the benefit of freedom of dissent. / There is no freedom of dissent in democracy or dictatorship. People criticized the Presidents under the two systems and paid for it. Dictatorial IBB and Abacha murdered as many dissenting voices as democratic OBJ whose Attorney-General became a victim too. GEJ is no saint either. Could GEJ fight Nigerians on twitter, facebook or listservs? He only accepted the reality. If Nnamdi Kanu hadn't visited Nigeria, do you think Nigeria could have stopped his IPOB movement? Have you forgotten how many online publishers (eg. Elendu) were arrested on arrival at International airports in Nigeria during Yar'Adua/GEJ's tenure? People forget so soon. Members of MASSOB and now IPOB were massacred equally under democratic GEJ and PMB. Go figure! Technology is the nemesis of dictators. The difference is that the advent of social media has given the masses an unlimited power to throw jabs at their leaders from a safe distance. Inability to arrest dissenters should not be misconstrued as tolerance of criticism. \ |

omohayek: There is no absolutely doubt that the Nigerian judiciary is rife with corruption and in dire need of cleaning out, but blatantly violating the separation of powers is simply not the right way to do it. If this constitutional restriction can be violated with impunity, what stops Buhari or a successor from ignoring any other such restraints? No man or woman can be bigger than the constitution, no matter how well-meaning they may be. / I have argued on many occassions that democracy is not good for Nigeria. It has been grossly abused. In response to your position, there is no oversight. An institution cannot police itself as has been shown by the executive, legislative and judiciary arms of government in Nigeria. Democracy seems only good on papers considering the ways it is being implemented in Nigeria. Scandal after scandal, everything is swept under the proverbial carpet. Nigeria needs a mix of democracy and dictatorship. As it is, the legislatures only challenge the executive only when their pockets are at stake. The judiciary is for the highest bidder. The executive wants to corner all the power. And in such a mess, nothing progressive has been achieved all these years. Iraq, Libya, Egypt are classical cases to show that democracy doesn't always work. Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Middle East figured it out a long time ago and they are progressing. No matter the best of intentions, put anything good into the hands of Nigerians in government and watch how it will be turned upside down for the benefits of the kleptocrats. \ |

Family › Re: When The Wife becomes the Husband. by InvertedHammer: 12:44am On Oct 07, 2016 |
Toks2008: The primary duty of the man in marriage is to provide the basic needs of his family talking about the wife and the children while the primary role of the wife is to nurture the husband and the children which is the perfect definition of help mate.
Now it is important to note that no two marriages are the same and what works for you may not work for the other person and the fact that a man provides all the needs of the family does not mean that he can't assist the wife to do some of her primary duties if needs be and a wife who has become the breadwinner may also not mind playing her primary duties without any support from the husband .
But nevertheless i sincerely believe that every man whose wife have become the main bread winner or a co-bread winner to realize that it is very expedient for him to be ready to also be a co-nurturer of the family and also perform the primary duties of the woman such as cleaning the house, cooking, taking care of the children and helping the wife to do things that will ease off the stress from her.
I have heard of several cases where a man who is fully financially dependent on the wife still expects her to do all the domestic activities and prepares all three course meals and some men even get so angry with the wife because she complains of tiredness.
It is very wicked and uncaring for a man whose wife is also a partaker of his primary duties to still expect the lady to fully take care of the home front and this does not make you less a man but will rather encourage the woman and not make her look like a slave in the house.
I know some men will say it is not in our tradition as Africans to do domestic chores and I sincerely agree but we must also understand that it is also not an Africa tradition for a woman to be a breadwinner.
I don't know if this makes sense. / Women want equality. Why not oblige them? I say 50/50. \ |
