Politics in Nigeria is a reflection of the larger society.

Most Nigerians are dubious in character and will sell out for a piece of crumb. Integrity and Nigerians must never be used in a positive statement. Meek when hungry; devils when given opportunities.

Given the same opportunity, majority of Nigerians would do same or worse than Dasuki because they see everyone else as mugu/morons without considering the impact on the society.

The outrage about the Dasuki saga is because some folks are beginning to realize that they were shortchanged or that they were left out-- like the folks (e.g.. Barcanista, etc ) that were paid in recharge cards to write epistles in support of GEJ2019, only to realize that millions were dished out.

It is all charade.

Dahveydson:
I have had the privilege of being friends with children of pastors and their nonchalant attitude to the gospel and not taking after their parents always leave me puzzled.

Is it that they are simply tired of it or their parents are living a fake life or they feel neglected by their parents full attention to the work of God? - it's really confusing.

Dear Nairalanders, what do you think is the reason for this?
/
Because they live with the hypocrites called pastors.
The veil of pretense comes off at home.
The children can see what gullible followers cannot see.

A beggar has no choice.

Nigeria is in no position to be making demands because she is the one that needs help and has nothing to offer.

What is in it for UAE? Oil? They already have it in surplus. What is Nigeria's bargaining chip? Zilch!

He is right.

Anything that doesn't involve perpetual servitude to IMF and World Bank is "height of foolishness".

Believe any agent of economic hitmen at your own peril
Failure to save for the rainy days got Nigeria where she is today. Middle East nations developed their countries and built up huge reserves. Nigerians partied and looted their revenues. Other countries with huge reserves tapped into it to balance their budget pending the normalization of the oil market. Nigeria? Well, one cannot eat his cake and has it. They resort to what they know best - borrowing.

English comprehension should be easy. Right?

Oyegun knows his audience--Nigerians, who believe that every event (good or bad) is a subtle message from God.

Oyegun sees the current economic misfortune as a blessing in disguise. Perhaps, it would nudge Nigeria to deviate from reliance from oil as the only major source of revenue through diversification of the economy.

Oyegun is not blaming God!

How am I surprised? How many people pass WAEC these days? This is what "sorting" does to your brain.

As you can see from comments on your thread.some people are so comfortable in blaming than in solving problems.
The present administration has the easiet work on pursuing economic growth but it has a problem with itself.if it does not free itself from throwing or casting blames it spends unnecessary energy in getting solutions that require little energy expenditure.
Maybe when the is a more open minded thread
/
I beg to differ.

Even the best driver in the world cannot drive a car with no fuel in the tank.

GEJ and co. siphoned all the fuel out of the tank, threw the key at Buhari and said,"let's see you drive this car to the intended destination"

Then there is scarcity of fuel.

Politics › Re: Solution to the Nigerian Economy by InvertedHammer: 1:32pm On Jan 22, 2016

There is no solution to the problem. Everything the OP outlined is analysis based on textbook. Economics is not science. When US economy was teetering on the brink of abyss in 2008, the Fed Chairman had to think outside the box and Congress made laws to abate the situation. A lot of textbooks were written about it and some will read and pass them off as enlightened.

Nigeria is like the banker who made N200k/month, lived like a king and when laid off, found out that he had no savings. The banker gets a new job that pays N50k/month and keeps whining that the new salary is not enough to maintain the lifestyle he is accustomed to. The keyword emphatically is Savings! Savings!! Savings!!!.

Saudi Arabia is feeling the pinch too. But they have hundreds of billions of dollars saved to cushion the effect of the shock. They can tap into the reserve to balance their budget.

The greatest problem facing Nigeria is that the leaders have no imaginations. They live on the present. Meaningful countries have outlined their policies direction for the next few years and will tweek same when necessary and appropriate. Nigeria has no goals. Any monkey can run the economy which goes thus: Sell oil, share the proceed, party hard, and repeat. And while this is going on, be hopeful that nothing throws a wrench into the works.

Oga. U are right and the Op is equally right ,it all depends on where you have found yourself in either side of the divide, that is ,Nigeria or abroad. Op is certain certainly an employed graduate, he has not tasted unemployment for once ,and for such a person to think the way he does is not out of place. So, based on his life experiences, he is very correct. How will somebody like op not feel disgusted on the thought of his venerable professors doing a gateman job elsewhere? And for you, based on your experience, you are very correct. What is wrong with a professor doing nanny when his bills are being paid by the job? For someone that have tasted suffering at its height, your certificate or experiences doesn't matter any more, what matters is your survival. Your experiences are certainly at direct opposite of the Op.

Career › Re: 8 Annoying Jobs Nigeria Graduates Do In Order To Survive At Overseas Countries by InvertedHammer: 10:58pm On Jan 21, 2016
wristbangle:
The rush for greener pasture has becloud the vision of Nigeria Graduates to the extent that most believe nothing good can happen owing to the deplorable state of the country's economy.

As a result of negative economic situation, some have travelled to the overseas in search for good jobs but it's unfortunate that they eventually secure shameful occupation which they can't even wish for their enemy to do.

Therefore, 8 Annoying Jobs Nigeria Graduates Do In Order To Survive At Overseas Countries

1. Cleaner

It's so demoralising to see a PHD holder cleaning toilets, streets, floor of hotels, bars and offices. No matter how terrible Nigeria economy is, a graduate of such calibre cannot even think for once in picking such jobs in this county except if his/her village witches are at work.

2. Security guard

I have heard cases of professors in Nigeria University been employed as security guard in overseas countries because his quality of education and expertise cannot even match the skills an employer is looking for. What could be so agonising to see your celebrated professor as puppet in another country?

3. Washing dead bodies

It's rather an insult upon injury to see a Graduate of this country washing dead body in another man's land to make end meets. The most annoying thing they claim to be working as forensic officer but what happens when they contact a deadly disease during the occupation, of course prophet T.B joshua will be at their rescue.

4. Prostitution

I don't know why some ladies who are graduates has completely lost self esteem and integrity hereby resorting to prostitution career when they travel to overseas. This is a common act in countries like Italy and Brazil where they have sex with all sort of men, dog, horse and monkey in order to make money. I am sure that people must have heard the story of a female Nigeria celebrity who did this act. I pity the guy that will marry her.

5. House maid

I believe that the highest qualification to select a house maid suppose to be someone with O level certificate but the case is different in overseas countries where some Nigeria graduate make mockery of their selves to work as house help.

6. Refuse and Sewage packer

Honestly speaking I pity the life of refuse and sewage workers because they are marred with poor health condition which is as a result of the bad stench oozing from the waste. Let's be frank here, can a white man work as sewage worker in Nigeria? Abi no be the same brain God give us?

7. Drug smuggler

Smuggling cocaine, hemp, marijuana and other hard drugs is not a legitimate occupation and it can never be. Greed and desperation to become wealthy fast has ruin the destiny of so many Nigeria Graduates whereby some have rot in jail while others has received death penalty.

8. Undertaker

There is dignity in when a graduate of this country patiently build his/her career at expense of picking a job that will never add value to his resume. Imagine a graduate working as undertaker (lifting corpse in coffin) at overseas countries because of the money attached. Is that life?

You can also add yours

This is a gross misrepresentation of fact.
These are jobs most newcomers do until they get integrated into the system. Do you expect them to fly in from Nigeria and the next week become CEOs of corporations? In US for instance, you work your way up. Heck! Obama's first job was scooping ice cream, and today he is the POTUS. Nepotism exists but on a very miniscule scale but not for immigrants especially Africans. You have to prove yourself more than others.

Stories like this are what losers use to pat themselves on the back to avoid taking chances in life. Every immigrant usually starts from the bottom. Western countries are not like Nigeria where any dickhead comes in as an "expatriate" and lords over the citizens of the host country.

Just like Drake said, "started from the bottom and now we are here".

NB: I have never seen nor heard of a Nigerian who is a mortuary attendant. It is just an urban myth.

Good for him.

This will show him how the American system works.

IRS takes 30% of the $1m, so automatically he is down to $700k,

..and the nickle and dime comes in....deal facilitators, lawyers, managers, etc.

If he walks away with up to $300k (which I doubt) of that money, then he is a genius.

Worst case scenario, they will tie the deal to record sales and promotions. Then he is really screwed.

One glaring fact is that Nigeria lacks prosecutors that know their onions. From EFCC to DSS to others, not one single high profile case had been effectively prosecuted by these charlatans. They prefer noise and hand-twisting to using brain power to prosecute suspects. I always believe that their litany of legal degrees is just for office decoration and nothing more. It is very unabashedly so. Lawyers like Keyamo opt for social crusade because it is not professionally challenging--it yields cheap popularity.

Are you in doubt? Watch as Metuh, Dasuki and Kanu will go scotfree after all these melodrama.

Bevista:
I think the CBN Governor was on point here.
---
Most people may not be aware of the Monetary Policy divergence between the US Fed and most other Central Banks in the world. The US Fed just increased its FFR by 25 basis points and is expected to continue doing so in the coming quarters and years. On the other hand, the CBN just reduced its MPR by 200 basis points. Also, the outlook for the US economy looks better while that of Nigeria looks gloomy.
---
For those who understand Finance & Investments, you will appreciate that this has increased the Yield on US financial assets while reducing the yield on Nigerian financial assets. Consequently, foreign portfolio investors (FIP) are moving their funds from Nigeria to the US. As they move out, they are converting Naira to dollars adding to the demand for dollars and the pressure on the Naira. These are "external shocks" completely outside the control of the president or the CBN Governor.
/
Your theory sounds good.

But the simple fact is that the US dollar index has been on a parabolic rise since last year. Every currency is down against US dollar from Euro, Canadian dollar, Australian dollar, Russian rubble(hit its lowest against US dollar last week), etc. to Nigerian naira. It is a global problem. If the currencies of G7 countries are taking a hit against the US dollar, how much more the currency of a poor and insignificant country like Nigeria? There is nothing Emefile or anyone in Nigeria can do about it. Naira will eventually gain some ground if and when an economic fundamental shock sends US dollar index spiraling out of control.

This is the least I expect from all these criminal proceedings. They need to rewrite the Nigeria laws.

N10b crime and N10m bail is an insult to the people.

I expect Dasuki's bail to be $2.1b. Your bail amount should be equal to or more than the amount looted.

Then during trial, you can defend how you come about the money.

They should learn from US IRS and why nobody wants any problems with the IRS.

I've been living in Atlanta since 2010 so spare me the lecture! My father came to the USA in the 1980s living behind my mom and 2 children. Before he left 9ja, we were all living in a face me and face you house struggling to survive, he just lost his job with NEPA and things were very difficult, imagine what would have happened if he had refused to use his Oluwole visa and chose to stay back in Nigeria? Yes, he suffered a great deal abroad including marrying an obese woman just to get his papers but it all worked out in the end. It took 6 to 7 years for him to fully get himself and in the 10th year he brought my mom to the USA. Looking at their net worth today, I would say they are valued at over 1/2 a billion naira collectively and all was through hard work. My brother and I had to live without both parents for some time but in the end, we are all successful living life to the fullest. What would have happened if dad chose comfort instead of hustling? Be careful how you to talk to people on the internet, some people have been through more than you can ever imagine!
/
There is no need for the epistle.

Some of the folks you are talking to are still at home collecting "pocket money" from their parents.

They will never understand.

I will not, shall not, cannot...says a young lady until she reaches 30.

I have seen families so poor that the man's presence (financially, psychologically and emotionally) in the family is worthless.

Some wives would rather the husband travel and bring in the papers than sit around being useless.

It is not as if jobs are readily available even for the most qualified.
