informatix: I am a programmer infact one of the Best in Nigeria. I learn how to program with a Laptop whose power doesnt Last for 1munite. I strongly DON'T agree power is a boundary in leraning programming.
A serious programmer should be able to know where to get 24hours light.cafe,bizcenter,govt. Office. I once travelled 150km to get a condusive environment to Start Apache tomcat version4 using java virtual machine.

I wrote programs in java,vb6,vb.net,sql.,php.asp,javascript.

I also wrote java server side programs in servlet.

A java program regarding ur comment.

import java.io.*;

class naija{
public Static void main(String args[]){
public String ans;
Bufferedreader input=new Bufferedreader(New Inputstreamreader(System.read());
System.out.print("I dont believe power shortage is a boundary to learning how to program"wink;

System.out.print("what do u think?"wink;
ans=input.readLine();
System.out.println(" you said"+ans);
}}

compile=javac naija.java
execute=java naija

You make programmers look bad. Now people will think every programmer is a nutcase
Politics › Re: What Are You Doing To Improve Nigeria? by InvertedHammer: 4:31pm On Oct 29, 2012
What can I do to help Nigeria?

So many things indeed! Try catching a falling knife? Try swimming against ocean current?
I can write 100+ pages exposition on it. Will it be feasible? NO!!!

TO stop a moving object, you need force to redirect its energy.
No solution is applicable to Nigeria without FORCE.

IBB, OBJ, Danjuma,Anenih, etc. are tough/godfathers because FORCE has not been applied to them.

All these quasi-tough men we have today were chicken during Abacha era....my friend that's the nature
of FORCE. To help Nigeria, we need to figure out the appropriate amount of FORCE to change her course.

F =ma, Force is equal to (the masses)x (accelaration into action).

Everything happens for a reason...
When a bird starts flying without perching,
a hunter learns to shoot without aiming.

My recommendations are:
Engagement: 1st trimester
Formal introduction: 2nd trimester
Traditional marriage: 7th month of pregnancy

White wedding: After delivery with certificate of DNA test and result.

If you have good financial foundation, I will advice you get married. Are you emotionally and psychologically ready for marriage? Well, those are the questions you will have to answer for yourself. I sincerely understand your mother's concern. They are legit. It seems that your mother is more concerned about heirs and heiress than your happiness(?) in marriage.

If you have a car, run your laptop off your car battery using about 400W Inverter. I used it in Nigeria and it worked well.
I got one from Walmart for about $39.99 (N6500). All you do is plug it into your cigar lighter adapter and connect your
extension cable to it. It has a warning light that is visible on your laptop as well (kinda flip flop picture of charging/not charging).
If the warning light comes on, your battery is drained but with enough juice left to start the car.

It worked well for me. You may want to try it.

afam4eva: I agree with the OP 100%. What can be best used to describe Nigeria is "The more you look the less you see".

But one thing i think the OP got wrong is in the area of ethnicity. While i know that India has more ethnic groups than Nigeria, the groups are not of equal size as we have in Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. In India, the majority group is the Hindis with over 70% of the population. Hindi is like an official language in India as it's spoken by even people who are not Hindus. So, this gives little room for conflicts. But a situation where you have 3 major ethnic groups who have refused to bow to each other but are constantly fighting to assume the leadership role, there's bound to be trouble. Infact, i've never some across any country with a similar ethnic composition as Nigeria that has made it. Prove me wrong.

Excuses! Excuses!! Excuses!!!

When it rains, there's a lot to watch from nature and you don't need the artificial stuff on your TV.

I wish I have an answer for it. But I don't. Damned if you do, damned if you don't! Try collecting rent from tenants
...it will be one long story after the other. These freeloaders don't fear lawyers anymore. This explains why a good
number of touts have found side jobs as rent payment enforcers (RPE).

Some will even tell you that you are not the only ones they are owing OR worse, that even as rich as the Fed Govt is,
it still owes money to entities. For them, that is the justification for owing you.

Simple solution: Don't render any service until paid in full. I don't care what the client says. Who am I kidding? In Nigeria,
it is easier said than done...b/c competition among contractors and service providers make them easy prey by these
unscrupulous scammers consumers
.
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Major Differences Between An Entrepreneur And An Employee by InvertedHammer: 5:14am On Oct 15, 2012
Entrepreneur! Entrepreneur!! Entrepreneur!!!

You make it sound that any "Joe-Six-pack" can just go out there and make it as an entrepreneur.
People should crosscheck their risk tolerance level, capital availability, and consider other unforseen circumstances
that may prop up in the journey to becoming a "SUCCESSFUL" entrepreneur. Nothing good comes easy else
everyone will be a "SUCCESSFUL" entrepreneur.

The OP really makes entrepreneurship seem like a walk in the park. Do you know the failure rate of new start-ups?
Do you have the capital base to sustain yourself in case things don't go as planned? If you took out some loans, how
will you deal with loss of collateral? Any alternative means of survival if and if things go kabooom in your face?
He/she who fails to plan, plans to fail.

Being an entrepreneur is one of the most difficult endeavors any person would undertake. Not everyone has the
knack for it. Period!

Autos › Re: What Frustrates You About Pre-ordering Cars From Overseas by InvertedHammer: 6:22pm On Oct 11, 2012
FX99: U have said it all. For now, these r d best bets.
[b]Do you know that you can buy a 2005 Range Rover and convert it to 2012 Range Rover Supercharged for
extra $4000. Standing next to each other you can never tell the difference between the two SUVs unless you
are a diehard car enthusiast (possibly from the interior). The difference is that the guy driving 2012 model
paid $75,000 or more for his own while you (the cheap son of a gun) spent about $18,000 on yours.

Guess what? I have delivered replica 2012 Range Rover for about $28,000 including shipping and clearing.
With the exception of the owner, no one else knows that it was 2005 Range Rover. The point is: You must
be honest and let people tell you exactly what they want. The buyer informed me that he liked the look of 2012 but
could not afford it. I showed him samples of what could be done. When he saw the remodelled SUV, he could not believe it.
He paid cash on delivery. All his friends still believe he drives a 2012 Range Rover Supercharged.
Listen to your customers.

One of the Nigerian movie stars is driving a remodelled 2006 to 2011 RR. I won't name anyone. Client confidentiality
applies!

Heck...what do I know? People just want to pretend to know more than they really know.

[b]Tyor:

Take a clue from gse-integrity and txswat's input and compare it with the garbage you
wrote in reply to my post. Truth hurts. But I guess some people just want to learn
the hard way.If there is anything I hate in life, it is deceit and dishonesty.

I deliver cars to Nigeria every month. But I always tell potential buyers
the price and let them inspect the cars first(when physically in Nigeria) before further
negotiation(s) if necessary.

Anything other than that is a speculative risk. I have had my own sad stories of
many Nigeria businessmen/women promising more than they could deliver. As such, I
will not want to subject anyone to such terrible "bait and switch" experience.

If you noticed, I am new in this forum and had only advertised one car due to
the circumstances surrounding the sale. I don't intend to advertise anymore cars
here for some personal reasons.

Please read txswat post and gain some knowledge before you commit your money to
chasing the tail. I can teach you things you never know that existed about
imported cars. When a car price is too good to be true, it probably is.

And yeah! Carfax report does not necessarily tell you all there is about a car. Period.

Autos › Re: What Frustrates You About Pre-ordering Cars From Overseas by InvertedHammer: 8:04pm On Oct 10, 2012
Some issues here...if your intention is to preorder a used car, you have to go there yourself to get exactly what you want. If you have to rely on someone else doing the purchase, the best you can get is "closest to desire".

You should understand the human factors are not quantifiable. You should also know these facts:
1. No used car is in a perfect condition (that's why they are used).
2. The level to which you can trust your money to a stranger depends on your risk tolerance level.
3. Pictorial display of cars may not show all the details.

Best bet: Get a visa and ticket and travel to get it yourself.

OR

Wait for some people with the resources to send cars down, inspect and then buy.

OR

Go to authorized dealers in Nigeria like Elizade, Coscharis, Toyota and buy a brand new one.
