Crime › Mass Arrest: Nigeria Demands Details From Us by JJYOU(op): 9:48am On May 16, 2009 |
Mass arrest: Nigeria demands details from US By Agency Reporter Published: Saturday, 16 May 2009 Nigeria is demanding from the United States of America government details of the arrest of about 40 Nigerians based in New York metropolitan area they were picked up randomly on Thursday as part of what New York City authorities called the dismantling of an “international credit card and identity theft fraud ring.” Empowered Newswire, a US-based Nigerian news agency reports that a press release from the District Attorney’s office for Queens County (under New York City) late on Thursday said in the last one year alone this group of Nigerians and their American collaborators had engaged in fraud estimated at $12million. Twenty-two of the over 40 alleged criminals have already been arraigned at a New York Supreme Court. But the Nigerian government has responded through the Consul General at the Nigerian Consulate in New York, Mr. Ibrahim Auwalu. According to him, New York authorities are yet to alert the Nigerian Embassy about the developments. Auwalu added that once the Nigerian Embassy was alerted and informed by the New York authorities, the embassy would seek to have access to the detained Nigerians and “confirm their bonafides.” Auwalu said if they were indeed Nigerians, the embassy would indeed visit them in detention. ”We owe them that responsibility as Nigerians,” he added. Queens District Attorney, Richard A. Brown, joined by Police Commissioner, Raymond W. Kelly, on Thursday announced the indictment and busting of 45 people in the international forged credit card and identity theft ring based in the New York metropolitan area “with roots in Nigeria.” http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art2009051615252237 Comments:

* The Maddoffs, the Blagojeviches are not Nigerians but the difference is the political will to bring corruption to book. If Rod Blagojeviche or Maddoff was a Nigerian, their sycophants would have outnumbered those who call for their heads.America has the highest crime rate but almost no crime goes unpunished no matter who you are. That is what we are asking for, make the country uncomfortable for criminals and corrupt politicians, equip the police to do their constitutional duty, pay workers.

Considering that our President is in Office with a stolen mandate, he lacks the moral high ground to inspire the Nation to do good. He also unashamedly, surrounds himself with brigands and run a Kleptocracy. In other countires, what would the likes Ibori, Aondoakaa, Saraki, Okiro etc be doing anywhere near govt?

All across Africa, it was youths that led the independence struggle, all they needed was to believe in themselves. Rescuing Nigeria is not harder than America having a black president, yes we can! I´m seriously embarrassed by our criminal conduct but I´m not ashamed of it because crime is across Race and Planet. I open records for them if citizens of other countries try to run me down as per criminality done by Nigerians: I tell them how bad their countrymen are too. Solutions: Nigerians should elect their leaders selfly, corruption checked, our addiction to money & material cured

* @Kingsley Ogbuji good words. Its always refreshing to read your contributions. My take on this is to fight it from the root cause. Nigerians both abroad and at home worship wealth irrespective of the source. Once you travel abroad, everyone expects you to ferry down money as if you mint them. So people that have no self control and integrity go into all sort of shaddy acts to 'impress' friends and relatives and to be considered as 'doing well' abroad.

Let me make this a little bit clearer to you. She works as a contract staff with one of the Banks and earns about 45k monthly which is about what i earn too.
Like i said earlier, she keeps all that money to herself and i provide all that the family needs: from diapers to rent. Even when she has cause to buy anything that has to do with the upkeep of the home in my absence, she ask for reimbursement and i'll give her.
I don't have any problem with her keeping her money to herself cos i consider it my responsibility to provide for my family, however, my grouse is with having to still give her an allowance for her personal needs. your case is different. what does she do with her 45k if she is still asking for money? some women give others a bad name |

If you stay in Lagos i would be willing to oblidge you an appointment and lets see if you would be able to look me in the face. thanks for comfirming your sickness. hope you are seeing a doctor? i cant understand why you find the good virtue of humility allien to your form of christianity. as for looking at you in the face, didn't your bible say Romans 12:3 (New Living Translation)
3 Because of the privilege and authority[a] God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.[b Romans 12:3 (Amplified Bible)
3 I warn everyone among you not to estimate and think of himself more highly than he ought [not to have an exaggerated opinion of his own importance], but to rate his ability with sober judgment, each according to the degree of faith apportioned by God to him. Romans 12:3 (New International Version)
3 Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Pastor AIO: After thinking about this further, I've come to realise that it is quite a gem. A perfectly circular way of reasoning. Starting with the argument, we consider that such a poor argument can only be made by someone who is immature. So we determine the person's age to be quite young. If we then establish the age to be young we can then apply the ad hominem and say 'ah, small boy, no wonder he makes such poor arguments.
And of course if we find the guy to be older than us then he is an agbaya. is it not a christian duty to be truthful and answer simple questions? 1 Peter 3:15 (New International Version)
15But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, KunleOshob: I wonder how people who claim to be christians are comfortable with the reality that the word of God is being dis-torted to defraud christians which is a very grievious sin whilst the direct commandments of christ are vastly being ignored by these same charlatans who claim to be serving him. I love christ and the gospel he brought to mankind, it pains me that this beautiful gospel is being twisted for materail gain, it pains me that the name of our lord and saviour is being used to commit crimes against humanity and i cannot just sit down and accept it just becos it as become the norm or the people being swindled are not even aware they are being swindled. I am quite certain in my mind that if the church was obeying the teachings of christ they claim to serve, Nigeria would be a much better country to live in. But the problem is every body cares for themselves alone and the type of christianity being preached and practised is the selfish type unlike the selfless teachings of our lord and saviour. I believe it is my christian duty to speak up against this evil going on in the church[even if it doesn't edify them] The church must be restored to true christianity and peoples eyes must be opened. We as christians need to start focusing more on the direct teachings of christ[from the gospels] rather than the twisted version that is preached on the pulpit the same you that is comfortable with OBJ's attrocities so please spare me miss comfort sir. |

Ilelobola: $osisi Staying at home to raise your children like someone said before is PRICELESS. It’s not about being educated or doing a menial or professional job.
Perhaps not everyone has access to these insurances but if a man dies and it means the family cannot survive; then arguably he hasn’t laid a strong enough foundation for the family. Obviously doesn’t apply in all cases. This is about married couples not divorcees. A divorced friend of mine still gets all her income from her ex-husband including a fully paid up house and no it was not because the courts asked him to do it. They were married, lived in and divorced in Nigeria before she moved to the UK with their 2 young children. A man that wants to be responsible will be especially where children are involved.
I am married too and working. No, I don’t find it demeaning, I have taken a year off work in the past and did not find it belittled me in anyway; he is my husband not my colleague. Like I said before, I used to think it ridiculous but I’ve long stopped being an independent woman. I have full access to his bank account so I don’t have to ask before I get it. He takes pride in advising his friends to do the same as long as they know their wives are wise. In my opinion it strengthens the union. He’s read some posts on here and struggles to understand why a man wouldn’t want to do anything and everything for his wife if he could.
My prayer is God blesses our men (and women of course) with all that they need to bear their responsibilities without fear. many thanks. God bless. you spoke for me. some people have no business being married. money is one major wahala in relationships. the idea of some woman going to ask for hair and sanitary pad money as and when due is border line pathetic. i am very sure if these guys exhibited this stinginess they woukld have been ex boy friends instead of husband. i like the idea of women working that should not be an excuse for people not taking up their responsibility. Am Alone: I think allowance should be given to women, but not by F O R C E ! seconded Ilelobola: Roughlen
If you are really ‘akagum’ might be easier to cut your clothes up than ask. I did not mean literally of course . . . You obviously do not give her enough to cover the upkeep of the home otherwise she wouldn’t have to ask you either as she would have planned the expenditure so there is enough to buy the towels. what is akagum? |
TV/Movies › Local Content: How Are Tv Stations Coping? by JJYOU(op): 11:11am On May 15, 2009 |
Local content: How are TV stations coping?By Onoche Nwabuikwu Published: Friday, 15 May 2009 When in March or thereabouts, the National Broadcasting Commission, directed TV stations to show only local content between the hours of 7 and 10 pm, not many could see how the stations were going to be able to pull it off. Before the NBC directive, those hours had seemed like they were reserved for foreign programmes. Skip to next paragraph click to expand image ’Nonye Iwuagwu Ebube Nwagbo It‘s early days yet and we don‘t want to look like we‘re rejoicing too early but I‘m happy to report that since April 1 when the NBC regulation took effect, TV stations appear to have fallen into line seemingly effortlessly. A few local soaps have since debuted on TV. The most noticeable change has been on AIT where its Latin American soap has moved to 10 o‘clock. However, as I‘ve said, it‘s still early days yet. We‘ll have to watch and wait to see how the rest of the months go on TV. Suffice it to say that there are issues that still need to be tackled. Nollywood movies have made a big comeback to TV. The challenge in showing some of these films on the prime time belt when there may be under aged viewers is how to pick appropriate films. A few of these films are rated 18. On Tuesday May 5, around 8 pm, Ebube Nwagbo appearing in a film I didn‘t get its title was shown removing her underwear. In another steamy scene with Emeka Enyiocha, they were having sex with close up shots focusing on their entwined legs. Viewers also see the height of their passion. I can‘t believe that film was cleared for general viewing. Even at that, someone should be responsible for cross checking the veracity of classification claims and suitability of films. http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art2009051512582313Comments:
* One of Yaraduas exceptional appointments has been that of Mrs Akunyili.I know this Idea most have originated from her. Reviving Nollywood and creating jobs for our People.when she was in NAFDAC, she did the same thing and single handedly revived our comatose pharmaceutical industry. Its a pity she was not allowed to rebrand Nigeria, she would have been able to bring in 5m tourist within 5yrs. S/Africa has the highest incidents of rape, armed robbery.murder etc in Africa yet 13m tourist visit them

* Ordinarily, in a free society like ours, government should not dictate to TV stations what their program schedule should be or when to air what unless we are running a communist regime in Nigeria. As far as morality in movies is concerned, our copycat actors/actresses have chosen the American way and they tell you they're only acting out their scripts. Very soon we'll start seeing stark nude actresses on our home video screens. It's all sign of end time, I don't wonder! Evil will be on d rise.

* NBC will be sorry for this policy of being the wise one. What they think they bargain for is not what will eventually happen. Most of the locally produce programs have no redeeming value. You can not legislate morality. The NBC should show the way by producing the so called local content programs that entertains and educative at the same time.It is going to be a hard sell.

Health › Woman’s Death Stirs Controversy In Lagos Hospital by JJYOU(op): 11:07am On May 15, 2009 |
Woman’s death stirs controversy in Lagos hospital By Niyi Odebode Published: Friday, 15 May 2009 When the United Nations International Children‘s Fund expressed concern about maternal mortality in Nigeria two months ago at the presentation of the 2008 Wolrd Health Report in Abuja, government officials, including the Minister of Information and Communication, Prof. Dora Akunyili, described UNICEF‘s claim as alarming. Skip to next paragraph click to expand image File Maternal mortality While the global body put maternal mortality in the country at 1,100 per 100,000 live births, government officials thought the figure was exaggerated. They thought that things were not as worse as they were painted by UNICEF. The Federal Ministry of Health put the figure at 800 per 100,000 live births. For doubting Thomasses, the death of a pregnant woman, Mrs. Motunrayo Kolade, at the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Lagos on March 21 this year typified the rot in the country‘s health system, where getting pregnant was fast turning to a risky venture. Kolade’s death is currently causing ripples in the hospital and the state ministry of health. While authorities believed that her death was a classical case of medical negligence, some workers said that it was caused by dearth of equipment and manpower. Investigations by our correspondent showed that Kolade was referred to the hospital from Alimosho General Hospital, Lagos. It was gathered that the deceased was brought into the emergency room of LIMH at 6:30 am. According to sources in the hospital, she was suffering from eclampsia (convulsion), which, according to medical experts, accounts for 11 per cent of maternal deaths in Nigeria. Other causes of maternal deaths in the country include haemorrhage (bleeding) which causes 23 per cent of the deaths; infection, 17 per cent; obstructed labour, 11 per cent; and malaria, 11 per cent. According to sources, Kolade was brought to the hospital because she required an emergency caesarean section. Although the woman got to the hospital at 6:30am, she was not taken into a theatre for operation till 5:50pm.Why should the woman, who required an emergency CS wait for almost 10 hours? Investigation showed that because of its location, the hospital had been recording a lot of emergency obstetric cases. When the deceased got to the hospital, there were two women, who were about to be operated upon. A source said, ”There are three theatres in the hospital, but because of shortage of anaesthetic personnel, the three cannot be used at the same time. “There are two qualified anaesthetists in the hospital. The two of them were not on duty. The woman had to wait till the two other emergency cases were completed.” Investigations showed that the only doctor on duty at the time the operation was about to begin was a National Youth Service Corps member. Before the commencement of the operation at 5:50pm on March 21, Kolade was said to be in a stable condition. She was also said to be conscious. Our correspondent gathered that shortly after the pregnant woman was anesthetised, her condition changed and she became unconscious even before the operation. The youth corps member and a nurse on duty made spirited efforts to resuscitate her with the aid of oxygen, a suctioning machine and cardiac massaging. Their efforts, however, proved abortive. Kolade‘s family, who saw her going to the theatre in a stable condition and who had that the woman would soon come back with a baby were disappointed. She died at 6:20pm that day. While the woman died, the baby in her womb was lucky. The pregnant woman was operated upon at 6:28pm and a female baby was brought out of her womb alive. Disturbed by the death of Kolade, the state‘s Health Service Commission set up a panel to investigate the case. In a letter dated March 31, 2009, titled, ”Invitation to attend personnel management board meeting,” the commission invited 10 doctors and one nurse to appear before the panel on April 1, 2009. The letter written to the medical director of the hospital, read in part, ”I am directed to invite you and the following officers to the personnel management board meeting, in respect of medical negligence in the management of Mrs. Motunrayo Kolade in your hospital.” The letter with a serial number SHMB/9/IX/598 was signed by one Mrs. Y.O. Falugba for the permanent secretary HSC, Dr. Olufumilayo Olatunji. Reacting to Kolade‘s case, the Chairman of the state branch of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr. Adedamola Dada, urged the state government to conduct a public enquiry into the woman‘s death. He believed that Kolade‘s death was a result of shortage of personnel and equipment. According to him, the case should not be used to witch-haunt doctors. When our correspondent phoned the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, and the Permanent Secretary of the state Health Service Commission, Dr. Olufunmilayo Olatunji, for their reactions, their telephones were on voice mail. They had not responded to text messages sent to them at the time of filing this report. The woman‘s death occurred barely a week before similar issues were raised at a media workshop organised by a non-governmental organisation, the Campign Against Unwanted Pregancy and another one for journalists and human support services seeking a multi-sectoral support to reaching the Millenium Development Goals 4 and 5 on maternal mortality. The workshop was organised by the Development Communications Network. At the workshop on campaign against unwanted pregnancy, a Consultant Obsterician and Gynaecologist at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba,, Dr. Boniface Oye-Adeniran, called for public education and improved health facilities to reduce maternal deaths. Participants at the DEVCOM’s workshop noted the interest of women and children, who they said had become the butt of incurably defective policies of government. Comments:
* this same unfortunate event happened to me in nigeria when i was coming from abuja to lagos.we had an accident at lokoja road and when they took us to the state hospital, there is only one NYSC lady to attend to us.unfortunately, many people die in the hospital expecially the elders due to lack of personel.its painfull seeing people dying in pain.

The truth of the matter now is doctors are tired too! If the government cannot look after them well, they have better opportunities outside, and they are grabing such opportunities. The time is fast approaching when there will be no single doctor in government hospitals! That time is near! Let the overnment keep stealing,

* My condolence go the family of the diceased. However, this is just a tip of the iceberg of misfortunes that will continue to bedevil this country.A country where the government has no respect for its doctors is digging graves for its citizens. For a government hospital to refer an ecclamptic patient to another government hospital shows that the government of the day are not serious. One doctor alone working in a General hospital! * Nigeria seriously needs a new generation of leadership which can use her resources for her citizens. If she was a family member of one of those political thieves, she would have been flown abroad. Nigeria is not that poor as to have her hospitals inequipped with facilities and manpower. There's brain drain cuz our leaders are corrupt and selfish otherwise why would a Nigerian doctor leave for South Africa or India? We need God fearing leaders and I'm coming to sanitize Nigeria soon, watch out!

Christianity Etc › Re: What Tithe Really Means by JJYOU: 10:52am On May 15, 2009 |
KunleOshob: What you fail to realize is most people tithe because they have been mis-led and manipulated into believing that tithing is compulsary for them to practise as believers, if you want to be honest you would admit that most preachers preach tithes from malachi 3 which they then twist to mean money from income and they present it as compulsary and non negotiable for christians to practise they also utlize the curses and blessings in the passage to further intimidate and lure christians into parting with their money. As i have always said i have nothing against tithers infact i have pity for them as they are being defrauded on a regular basis and they think they are doing the will of God. it is the "compulsary" tithe preaching pastors that i detest.
Whilst we condenm all methods used by these crooks to defraud christians we emphasize more on tithes becos this is the most instituitional fraud in christianity and the biggest established fraud in the history of mankind.
I quote Jeremiah 8 becos the reason why preachers twist the scriptures is clearly stated there which is greed and fraud. This would help christians better to understand the reason why food/ meat in malachi was twisted to mean money /income and why preachers preach tithing at all. It is all greed and the bible says so. kunle, how does this your shouting edify Christ or win the lost? you are such unbelievable human being. again i want to ask how old are you? |

Lagosboy: Now let me expose your falsehood and lazy research
you quoted from Bukhari Vol 1 book 11 hadeeth no 662 , this is the full quote - Narrated Anas:
The Prophet said, "Listen and obey (your chief) even if an Ethiopian whose head is like a raisin were made your chief."
This hadeeth itself make you shoot yourself in the foot. The hadeeth is talking about the irrelvance of the complexion of your leader and the equality of race before God.
Now this is Bukhari vol 9 hadeeth no 256 " Narrated Anas bin Malik:
Allah's Apostle said, "You should listen to and obey, your ruler even if he was an Ethiopian (black) slave whose head looks like a raisin."
Again we see the meaning of this hadeeth.
a simple independent verification by you will have saved you this embarassment and lazy research. lagosboy leave this matter. u are giving it more publicity than necessary. |

Properties › Re: Agency Fees by JJYOU(op): 9:38am On May 14, 2009 |
lawyer: Generally Agency Fees for tenancy agreements is 10% of the tenancy rates X how many years they collect from you e.g if the property is going for N100,000 per annum, the agency fee is 10% of N100,000 which amounts to N10,000 for one year and if the agent is collecting 2 years rent, that's N10,000 x 2 Years which is N20,000. So you calculate it by the years and 10%
For property sales, it is usually 5% of the total price paid for the property (Negotiable in some instances if you have a skilled lawyer in pointing out the reasons it should be less than 5%)
All agency fees are usually borne by the buyer or tenant and not the landlord or seller? Strange system in my opinion i thank you |
