You can't overpower these terrorists if AA mounted guns are not within the arsenals of the boys in the front line Artilary? |

In theory, you yourself can arrest a policeman you see committing an offence and hand him over to the police. (Don't try that at home o! If you see a policeman breaking the law you should report him at the police station.) |

On a second thought, they must have both eaten to make the bills go that high. 83k sef is too much to spend in an eatery. Both of them are mad! Yeah. Quite possibly mad. |

kjhova: King Ahab appears in extra-biblical chronicles of a few other neighbouring kingdoms. Human history is essentially a documentary of royalty, power and wealth. Commonality is often only mentioned to further the story of the nobles.
Authenticity of all thousand years old stories are always contested and validation is dependent on availability of multiple sources.
Broad cases like; Ahab was a bad king, Samson possessed immense physical strength, Sango was a powerful warrior, Spartans were a war loving race are more verifiable with corroborating evidence than specific incidences like Ahab & Naboth's vineyard, Samson and the ass' jawbone, Sango spewing fire or 300 Spartans. These appear like legendary acquisitions over time rather than real occurrences considering the details.
So yes, while the old and the new testaments are remarkable pieces of literature, they remain old records with inherent doubtful notes, like all other historical work, when subjected to critical examination. Hence my desire to meet the historical Jezebel just to see if the bible described her accurately or if the Jewish chroniclers deliberately distorted facts in the records just to spite her. Brilliant. |

docadams: Recruiting mercenaries to fight a war on your own soil is one of the dumbest thing GEJ did as Machiavelli rightly wrote that a "mercenary, having no allegiance, will eventually hold the prince who employs him hostage for increasing amounts of money". I disagree with bolded. The long-term strategy for winning should be massive recruitment, training and massive acquisition of hardware. But all that takes times. With soldiers dropping dead and the army close to being in disarray, mercenaries are a good idea in the short term. Buhari should have focused on arming and recruitment once he disengaged the mercs or maybe he should even have retained them for a little longer. At least, they recorded huge successes when they were here. Mercenaries are bad news, yes, but war is already bad enough and these guys were effective. |

Now Boko Haram dey show the poor foot soldiers pepper, while the pot-bellies top officials are chilling with their billions. Ha! It's sad. The two things you'd have expected a General-President of a country at war to do - massive purchase of arms and massive recruitment of soldiers - have not been done. While we're waiting for US-made aircraft, we can buy tanks and other hardware. But not much has been achieved in that area. It appears the ones Jonathan hurriedly managed to order at the end of his presidency are now exhausted so soldiers have started talking of being poorly armed again. Overinflated budged = overinflated stomachs! |

The corruption on all levels is overwhelming I swear! Yeah. The military era was the worst. The military sabotaged itself. That's when the last primary and secondary schools and hospitals and prisons and almost everything else were built in this country. |

kjhova: Jezebel's story is thousands of years old and a lot of embellishment could have been added over centuries. The specificity of the encounter with Naboth does not necessarily give any credence to the bible recording of Jezebel's evil nature as there is no secondary source to validate the historicity of Naboth and/or a contested vineyard. Naboth and Jezebel are part of the same story. Unless you have a reason to doubt the story, you can't throw out Naboth. Embellished by who exactly? You think Old Testament stories were randomly interpolated? |

kjhova: I'd wanna meet Queen Jezebel as she is the most vilified woman in the bible. I always wondered if the history of this queen was not distorted due to religious bigotry.
Jezebel was a foreigner who married the most hated king in the history of the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah. Much of the history of that time, as passed down in the bible, was written by the religious establishment who were mortal enemies of the crown. Who can tell if what we know today as history was not a deliberate distortion of the true nature of the historical Jezebel.
Ancient Israel is similar to today's Pakistan in terms of zealotry. Imagine how history will record a Pakistani 1st lady today who is an American import trying to implement laws on women's rights, abortion, birth control, alimony or LGBT rights?! Your analogy is brilliant and your perspective might have some merit. But there were specific allegations against her. For example, the allegation that she killed the prophets of Yahweh could be viewed under the bias you are alleging since the prophets didn't like Ahab and his foreign wife much. But what she did to Naboth was another matter. Naboth was a commoner and there's no reason to believe that story was made up. Stories about her might have been exaggerated a bit but she mostly liikely was a Cannanite Lady Macbeth. |

dustydee: Or Benin Republic?
France will return 26 works of art to Benin more than a century after it took them from the west African nation. President Emmanuel Macron ordered the pieces returned "without delay" to the former French colony, according to a report commissioned by the French government. The pieces have been in France's possession for 126 years, ever since they were taken from the palace of King Behanzin, who was deposed and exiled when France claimed the region as a protectorate in 1894. Macron's decision to return the artworks stems from a report authored by French historian Bénédicte Savoy and Senegalese writer and academic Felwine Sarr. French collections now house at least 90,000 pieces originating from sub-Saharan Africa, the report said, with around 70,000 works just in the Quai Branly -- a museum featuring art indigenous to Africa. It recommended that the French government return stolen artifacts to their countries of origin. "These works can be presented to the Beninese public and to the international public as part of the ambitious project of museums carried by the Republic of Benin," the statement said. And these 26 pieces may just be the start. The report suggested a three-phased approach. The first, the return of "several symbolic pieces whose return has been requested fro a long time by various African nations." Then, an international inventory of stolen pieces. And the final phase would include African nations submitting claims of restitution. The Elysée Palace said there will be a meeting at the start of 2019 between African and European nations to develop a new policy on the exchange of stolen artifacts.

dainformant: Report has it that the president of France, Emmanuel Macron has agreed to immediately return 26 African artworks claimed by Benin, Edo state, Nigeria.
It was gathered that the decision on Friday came shortly after Macron received a report detailing how former colonisers can return looted artworks to Africa.
According to AFP, government officials from Ethiopia to Senegal eagerly awaited the report, commissioned by Macron and compiled by French art historian, Benedicte Savoy, and Senegalese economist Felwine Sarr.
It recommends that the thousands of items in French museums taken without consent during the colonial period be returned to the continent.
Unless it can be proven that the objects were obtained legitimately, they should be returned to Africa permanently, the report's authors say.
French law currently forbids the government from ceding state property, regardless of how it was obtained.
