What is happening is not surprising. It is 'do-or-die' politics introduced by OBJ. The leadership of this country cannot be based solely on the choice of almajiris. These people have no value for human lives. The security agencies should nip the crisis in the bud before more lives are wasted.

The press once more appears to be in frenzy over a commentary purported to be made by Buhari. Buhari as usual is news. What so ever he does or does not do is a scoop to be splashed by the press. His commentary at the meeting with the Niger state CPC was rushed to the press without proper investigation. No sooner had the news reached the stand than the presidency, represented by Dr. Abati, furiously shot an unfortunate riposte building on the sketchy over-sensationalized opinions of Buhari.

One cannot help but be shocked with the descent of the country to pedestrian (mis)interpretation of issues with the sole purpose of impugning the sterling qualities of a person. All efforts are made to make this otherwise upright leader, who suffers phonies gladly and who has no regards for divisions, a violent regionalist. That is the way his Sokoto commentary has landed him a forced characteristic which has since then come to be his absolute definition in the Nigerian press trumping all his history of discipline and patriotism. It is a clear case of giving a dog a bad name in order to hang it, and remember this is not about a feline animal and a metal hook!

In this current situation, another deliberate fuss is caused to further hang this man by intensifying an already established stereotype. I just wonder; when have simple proverbs or political metaphors become literal representations of the objects they depict? Have we forgotten the ‘figuratively’ colorful first and second republics? When the late Mbadiwe (alias ‘a man of timber and caliber’) called himself ‘a political juggernaut’, I believe, nobody then thought of a monster caterpillar crushing all his political opponents to literal death. The Zik’s NPP was one time the ‘bride’ to be courted by other parties, did we at all think of a woman! What of Obasanjo’s ‘do or die’ declaration? Even if deaths had occurred at the election no one has related Obasanjo’s idiom to any casualties? Likewise, nobody has taken the late Bola Ige’s mentioning of the Northern ‘cows’ and ‘goats as part of the population census figures anything like livestock calculation more than the political slur it was meant to be.

Why is Buhari’s ‘kare jini, biri jini’ any different? Shorn of all the literal and decontexualized misrepresentations, it simply means ‘a serious contest’ i.e. the attitude of not giving up by the parties involved. ‘Kare jini, biri jini’, in a corpus checking on the contexts and collocates of the proverb, is mostly used where fierce competitions occur especially in sports and politics. Literal translation of this saying is mischievous crude and banal for even if we don’t understanding Hausa, are Nigerians actually ‘baboons’ (literal not figurative!)? One is disappointed that a person of Dr Abati’s intellectual caliber has taken this philistine ‘joke’ to higher planes to impute the calling of Nigerian voters as ‘baboons’ and ‘dogs’ to Buhari. This is to further estrange and alienate him from the people for their 2015’s political success. If someone, for example, told me that ‘it rained cats and dogs yesterday’, then my translation into, say, Hausa, will not only be that literal cats and dogs have fallen from the sky but that the people in the area have become cats and dogs also. Abati (PhD Dramatic Arts), this is the abysmal descent of that your unfortunate response and this analogy captures how yours may read to discerning minds. For the price of lucre, many great intellectuals have committed intellectual suicide and fallen prey to the wiles and machinations of politicians only to come seeking for that hard earned reputation when it is too late and when the orgy is over.

And probably that is why that irrevocable incorruptibility of Buhari has remained a great threat since it cannot be Ghana-must-goed. His views are misinterpreted for his daring to be different and not being part of the corrupt gravy train. But by every effort that is made to besmirch him, he emerges cleaner to his massive unbought constituency. And, as the Hausa saying goes, when the sky is out, it can’t not be covered by our palms. Buhari is the sky and the PDP gang is the palms.

Any statesman that calls his country men baboons and dogs is not fit to be a leader. Who are the baboons and who are the dogs? Until this question is answered, nigerians should not sleep with both eyes closed because his kindred are planning to kill more people under the guise of post-election violence.
PoliticsRe: I'm Not Nigeria's Problem, Says Jonathan by kinguwem: 10:37am On May 19, 2012
The problem of Nigeria started in 1914 when the Northern Protectorate was amalgamated with the Southern Protectorate for economy reasons. There is a need for a sovereign national conference (SNC). Obviously, the nation is not moving forward economically and politically. Poverty, corruption, kidnapping, religious intolerence and terrorism is rampant. The political leaders are selfish, wicked and corrupt. Unless there is a revolution, there is no hope of reforms.
PoliticsRe: GEJ & FG Are Using My Remarks As A Cover To Arrest Me - Buhari by kinguwem: 1:55pm On May 16, 2012
Gen. Buhari should be called to order by patriotic nigerians. Calling nigerians dogs and baboons is degrading. Even though he is desperate, he should be wiser now. His utterances contributed to the escalation of the post-election violence in 2011. The killing of corps members was a very tragic event in the history of nigerian politics. Economic activities have been paralysed in the North because of the violent activities of Boro Haram. As an elder statesman he should call his boys to order. He will have himself to blame if he fails to behalf responsibly.
PoliticsRe: GEJ Reacts To Buhari's Prediction Of Bloody 2015 by kinguwem: 10:01am On May 16, 2012
Buhari shot his foot this time around. The general has lost touch with nigerian politics. There is no clean politician in Nigeria. The political Boko Haram associated with the post-election crisis in 2011 has crippled economic activities in the North resulting in endemic poverty. The country is bigger than Gen. Buhari and his political clan. Their people do not want western education. How will they develop? In the last general elections, under-aged pupils and students were mobiled to vote for him and his party. Was any northerner or muslim killed in the South because elections were rigged? For a leader to be respected, he must be civilized, patriotic, detribalized and visionary. Religious fanatism is another factor hindering progress in the nation. Any national leader should be above board. Buhari should clear any doubt in the minds of nigerians by responsing to Reuben Abati's allegations.
PoliticsRe: Atiku To Jonathan: Stop Pretending On 2015 by kinguwem: 5:29pm On May 14, 2012
Atiku and his cabal failed when they refused to urgently condemn the post-election crisis that killed some corp members from the South. What is national politics all about? Could the interest just be access to oil blocks, security votes, estacodes etc. If the death of innocent corpers did not move them because of their selfish interests, then they are not fit to be national leaders. The rapid transformation of Boko Haram from an ethno-religious group into a politico-terrorist organization is of great concern to patriotic nigerians. Irrespective of the propaganda of the political cabal, nigerians are now wiser.
PoliticsRe: Yekini Was Killed- Segun Odegbami by kinguwem: 4:02pm On May 12, 2012
The life of Yekini should be a lesson to upcoming footballers and sports administrators. You are celebrated when you are useful and dumped when there is a replacement.
All sportmen should invest their wealth before retirement. They should also acquire basic education. Routine communications and social networking is very important.
Finally, retired sportmen should be encouraged to be involved in sports administration. The involvement of politicians in sports administration is a major setback for sports development in the country.
Yekini died because he was neglected by sportmen, sports administrators and fans.

PoliticsRe: Aregbesola Calls For Ministry Of Northern Affairs. by kinguwem: 9:34am On May 12, 2012
Aregbesola is a political slave and coward. He does not have the courage to tell the truth. The problem of the north is iatrogenic. How can a group of people who are not interested in western education develop? What are the benefits of islamization of the nation? The zone contributes very little to the national treasury but has brought so much under-development to the nation (polio, almajiris, high illiteracy rate, high maternal mortality rate etc.). I'm disappointed in our statesmen. Gradually nigeria will know the motives and the people behind Boko Haram.
HealthRe: Lagos Issues Quit Notice To Sacked Doctors. by kinguwem: 6:01am On May 12, 2012
tallfact: In my opinion this will only introduce checks and balances in the face-off between the doctors and the lagos state govt. Yes the doctors have every right to ask the govt to fulfil its promises base on the signed agreement but they should remember that politicians are more powerful, can do and undo with impunity. The doctors should remember that theorems are differ from practical when it come to relating with people. If am in lagos state shoe today, I will take the same decision because I need to let you know that I can appeal to the public supports knowing that this affect them most not even when I had completed 80% of the agreement which made doctors in lagos far better than the rest in the country. Mind you there are other professions that are not enjoying half of what you enjoy today.

THIS WILL ONLY CREATE FEAR IN SOME OF THE DOCTORS AND BRING DOWN THEIR RAISED SHOULDERS.
I can understand reasons for your arguement. However, the way we reason is the main cause of our under-development. We are very timid and we lack the fighting spirit to change the vices in the society. Irrespective of the popularity of Fashola's action, his action is primitive and myopic. This move will affect the standard of health care detrimentally for many years. Nigeria will continue to be a crawling giant because of the calibre of her leaders.
HealthRe: Lagos Issues Quit Notice To Sacked Doctors. by kinguwem: 6:31pm On May 11, 2012
Lagosians open your eyes. There are rumours that Fashola has flown his ill father abroad for medical treatment at the expense of LASG. Mean while he has refused to pay doctors a living wage at home. The masses are now dependent on quacks, herbalists and spiritualists for their health care. The haste to evict sacked doctors from their quarters proves the lawlessness of the LASG. I think there is a political motive behind the actions of the LASG. Lagosians think.

HealthRe: Lagos Government Willing To Negotiate With Sacked Doctors by kinguwem: 5:41pm On May 11, 2012
sleek29: Even when not on strike, I have known nigerian doctors to be the most wicked professionals the world have ever seen, my sister was rushed to an accident & emergency ward only to be left to die despite her cries for help, another woman lost her baby in her womb in abuja her because she could not get N3000, they are the most insensitive of creatures, I would sack them if I was the governor, they all own private hospitals & go on strike to transfer traffic to their hospitals. Fashola, I'm 200% with you on this one, they are supposed to save lives, that's what they should do, a doctors who was a tottenham fan ran unto the pitch to save the life of fabrice muamba, a nigerian doctor that I know would never do that!
What has ever been done right in Nigeria before. There is no profession without bad eggs. That is why SERVICOM was established and that is the reason for the establishment of regulatory bodies. Behalf maturely and responsibly by reporting any officer who is of bad conduct to the appropriate authorities instead of castigating the profession.
HealthRe: Lagos Government Willing To Negotiate With Sacked Doctors by kinguwem: 9:21pm On May 09, 2012
The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Jide Idris should remember the fate of a former Minister of Health, Dr. Emmanuel Nsan who sacked his colleagues for going on strike. Such action has always been counter-productive and had resulted in more discomfort for patients, brain drain and a decay in the health care system. The NMA should sue the LASG because the sack did not follow the due civil service procedures. The LASG was hasty in sacking the doctors. This action presents the LASG as a government that is not committed to the rule of law.
Christianity EtcRe: Sickness: Not An Act Of God! · Pastor Chris by kinguwem: 8:21pm On May 09, 2012
Nigerians are very religious but mentally lazy people. There is a scientific basis for diseases. With advancement in technology, some diseases can be treated in-utero. Most children born with deformities have congenital anomaly. Some of those anomalies can be treated medically. The religious basis of disease is just a lazy man's mentality. Some pastors take advantage of the sick because of this devil's theory of the origin of diseases. Some people get healed through miracles but a lot of them die while seeking for the miracle. Most patients get relief after medical treatment. In summary, the availability of good and affordable health care will reduce the suffering of patients waiting for miracles in religious houses. The physician treats and God heals the patients.
PoliticsRe: Ojukwu Would Have Ruled Nigeria —Gowon by kinguwem: 6:24pm On May 09, 2012
The mediocrity and insincerity of Gen. Gowon and his northern brothers is the major cause of the nation's problem. Gen. Buhari truncated a democratic government in 1983 and therefore cannot call himself a democrat. Gen. Danjuma has just realize that nigerians are poor after making so much money from his contacts in government. Perhaps old age is now telling on him. Nigerians have never benefitted from good leadership. A SNC is not a bad idea.
HealthRe: Health Workers Begin Indefinite Nationwide Strike by kinguwem: 7:14pm On May 08, 2012
stine b: @Otox, the health workers demand is not based on any trait of Inferiority complex. No particular professional is superior than the other because they work inter dependently to see to good patient management. It is only in Naija that the ill informed masses like yourself see the Medical Doctors as superior to other health care professionals like Radiographers(Imaging diagnosis) Pharmacists(Drug andministering) Medical Laboratory(Fluid diagnosis) Nurses(Patients Care)Physiotherapist(Patient Rehabilitation)Doctors(Treatment) and other ranges of professional with their duties which vis a vis complement each other.
I'm not surprised at the action of the health workers. Their orientation and mentality is appalling. There is always a lead professional in every system. The doctor is the head of the medical team. The priest is the head of a religious organization. A combatant usually heads a military formation. An engineer is in charge of a construction site. A lawyer is in charge of the judiciary. All members of a team work for a common goal even though their roles may be different. Patients are managed under a medical consultant and not under a pharmacist, nurse or any other paramedic. Roles are well defined in the health care delivery system. Some of the paramedics are not proud of their profession. They usually want to be seen as doctors. They want to be involved in duties they are not trained to performed. For instance a peri-operative cannot perform the duties of a surgeon. An optician cannot claim to be an opthalmolgist. A laboratory scientist cannot be a pathologist. Until things are done properly, the health sector crisis will continue.
HealthRe: Lagos Sacks Striking Doctors by kinguwem: 7:32am On May 08, 2012
The LASG has erred by sacking the doctors. The health care delivery system will be very unstable unless they are re-instated. They can employ new doctors but it will takes years for them to have the required experience. The power show is detrimental to the health of the people.

The hunter has become the hunted. A stubborn chicken ends up in the pot. He should make hay while the sun shines. Crime does not pay. He should submit himself for interrogation. He should learn from the trial of Ibori.

Over-inflated tyres can burst if it hits a pot hole apart from affecting the balancing of the car. Under-inflated tyres are likely to worn out quickly and are at increased risk of punctures.
A tyre pressure guage is a necessity. It could prevent unnecessary road traffic accidents and its complications.

NYSCRe: Is Nigerian Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Worth Doing? by kinguwem: 11:48am On Apr 29, 2012
The NYSC is a good programme that has been abused by public servants, politicians and enterpreneurs. Recently, the insecurity in several parts of the country is a major problem. I served in Baissa, kurmi L.G.A. as a NYSC Doctor. I was the officer in charge of the newly established Cottage Hospital. I had a nice time there. After my service year, I was employed by the Taraba State Health Services Management Board as a medical officer. I subsequently did transfer of service to the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo. However, not everybody is lucky to get a job immediately after service. The other problem is discrimination against corpers. Usually, employers refuse to pay corpers their due allowances. Sometimes they are not given decent accommodation and they are exposed to sexual abuse. Recently, corpers have been kidnapped. With the volatile political situation in which some corpers were killed in the north, the issue of security should be considered seriously before accepting to serve in such areas. Finally, the NYSC offers an opportunity for socio-economic, cultural and political linkage for the youths.
