Coup comfirmed in Mali, just heard it on the TV. Does that NOT make ECOWAS a joke and an unnecessary talking shop where people like our dear President Goodluck go and make empty promises and rhetoric such as Militarism has been outlawed in the west coast of Africa. So what is ECOWAS going to do now, my guess would be siddon look as usual. ![]() |
Since it is established that Rivers State or better still Akwa Ibom state or any of the other littoral states cannot claim River Niger or River Benue which is almost equi-distance to the off-shore oil platforms and oil reserves, the illegality that has been accepted has the norm must reviewed at once. Looks like the negotiators of the derivatives formular did not put on their thinking caps when drawing up this one sided loopsided deal. ![]() |
The argument the littoral states put forward claiming sovereignty over water bodies that lies 200 km South off their coast should be a 2 way street argument. On the one hand they can claim water bodies 200km from their shores, yet they cannot claim land bodies 200 km North , East and West off their state. If that were possible Port Harcourt or better still Rivers State should be claiming lands as far North as lands in current Benue State and as Far East as lands in Doaula in Cameroon or land as far west as Ilaje or Okitipupa in Ondo state. The claims I must say are baseless and and a no brainer. ![]() |
Fashola has been on holiday since the 3rd year of his 1st term. Could someone please remind him that his tenure has not finished. Reminds me of a quotation from James Ibori, he was said to have gone to a rural area in Delta State for an engagement, the road leading to this place was full of water poodles and mud, James in his stride and jocularly quipped whilst sidestepping a big stone on the road “ See road as e be, Governor dey the state so” meanwhile he was the Governor. His entourage all laughed it off, obviously you the good people on NL should see and know the mindset of some of our rulers, they are making fun and mockery of our dire and miserable LIVES for their own amusement, how callous can that be. Fashola should wake up to his responsibilities. |
This Oba’s are becoming a joke, anyway generational shift from when noble men use to be Obas. This my generation and I am talking of guys in their 40’s like toto too much no be small thing, I don’t think my father’s generation was like that hence the joke we have today. One of my close friend na Oba today and the guy no dey play with toto, so no wonder we have this inglorious incident. Didn’t an Oba beat his wife in public not too long ago?? I am afraid of the next generation of Obas, those would even be worse than the current ones. We should just ban obaship, they are a joke |
Simple give the littoral States 25% of on shore oil and 5% of off shore oil. That way States would make more effort to tap and maximise their on shore capabilities whilst ensuring that all stakeholders or investors maintain or adhere to international cleansing and compensatory exercises once incidence of spillage occurs on their lands. The failure in the past has been the lackadaisical attitude of the Nigerian Government and NNPC to hold, apprehend, and sanction would be investors once spillage occurs hence why Oloibiri in Bayelsa State is a total mess today. |

Airport City: Niger State on world stage Written by Danladi Ndayebo Tuesday, 20 December 2011 05:00 The trip to the 2011 World Infrastructure Summit which ended penultimate Friday in Paris, France was an eye-opener of sort to the delegation from Nigeria. Although Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State and his Rivers State counterpart, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi received awards for engendering fundamental shift in the economies of their states, participants from Nigeria discovered that the country was deficient in the industrialization strategies it adopted in the past to create long term sustainable change in the economy. Nigeria, for instance, learnt that several countries that have made economic progress did so through robust Public Private Partnerships (PPPs), for the simple reason that investments in infrastructure usually require huge financial resources which are beyond the capacity of states’ budgets. In other words, the delegation from Nigeria learnt that governments have no business running businesses. Niger and Rivers States however presented impressive proposals that will leap frog the states’ economies and put them on the path of development. While Gov Amaechi spoke on his plan to regenerate the state capital through the Greater Port Harcourt City initiative, the Niger State’s helmsman briefed investors on plans to build an airport city in Minna, the state capital. Governor Aliyu informed that the development of the state will initially be focused on the development of economic zones that will incorporate an industrialization strategy around Minna. The vision is to create the Minna Airport City (MAC) as the platform for the economic development. The area of the site is a zone of approxi¬mately 42km x 42km, which stretches from Suleja in the east to Bida in the west, with Minna at its centre. Aliyu’s vision stems from the realisation that airports are shaping businesses and urban development in this century as much as seaports did in the 18th century, railways did in the 19th century and highways in the 20th cen¬tury. MAC, when built, will be the first of its kind in Nigeria in terms of its layout, infra¬structure and economy. It will be centred around the existing airport on the outskirts of Minna and will be a well planned city that will become a benchmark in urban planning. Investors from TAV Airports were particularly stimulated by the favourable conditions that already exist. Investors were glad to know the state has vast water resources that support three hydroelectric power stations; Kainji, Shiroro and Jebba and the fact that an estimated 80% of the land area of the state is suitable for agriculture and the range of crops species that can be produced is wide given the soil texture and climatic con¬ditions. Interestingly, only 25% of the state’s 682,331 hectares of arable land has been developed for agriculture. So,an Airport City will improve the potential for the development of Agriculture. There was also a congruence of thought among participants that airports have become key for the economic development and competi¬tiveness of countries throughout the world. It was agreed that even though the Airport City concept is recent, it has become significant generators and nuclei for urban development and economic regen¬eration. Airport Cities, Dr Aliyu explained, are a recent phenomenon, where the expansion of the airport triggers the expansion of the surrounding business areas linked by new, fast and efficient transport links. Whereas airports were originally built to perform one function, they are now cities in them¬selves with significant retail provision acting as employment centres and generators of significant wealth. As the airports have expanded and the nature of their business evolved, their peripheries have developed to include major manufacturing and business centres. Due to its topographically tested existing location, Minna Airport can be developed in a similar manner to airports in Europe, USA and the Far East. It has the potential to become a node for new industries and eco¬nomic development. National and international companies will want to re-locate there, due to its proximity to the international links afforded by the airport and also the nearby Minna City and Abuja. There is also potential for the airport to become a new cargo hub for Western Africa in the same way that Dallas Fort Worth airport has expanded to become the major distribution centre for USA. Together with the development and expansion of the airport, the wealth of good arable land around the airport allows agri-business to be developed in tandem. The route of the new fast rail link required between the airport and Abuja will also allow for additional stations linking new commercial and business districts with the airport. There is no doubt that the Minna Airport City project being actualised through the cooperation of Maevis-Cortis Capital will take Niger State and Nigeria to the next level. The idea of a person not getting salary sounds phoney to me? Even though Rochas is talking the talk and walking the walk? That salary misconception sounds and looks like the “more you look the less you see” I may well be wrong. |

but I guess that transformation will happen in Nigeria some daythat someday is like " tommorrow" they say "tommorrow" never comes. "When you go do this job for me now", 'tommorrow' the next day u ask the guy again when you go do the job now, the guy says 'tommorrow', we would never see "some day" at this rate. It seems we have become experts at re-inventing one malice or the other. If it is not 'MEND' going Gaga, BH would be doing their own, and if not BH, MASSOB go start their own katakata, 'tommorrow would never come' for Naija, the earlier we know it the better. Nigeria would remain a failed nation, if the blood of those corrupt men and women who live in Nigeria have not been spilled. Rawlings have done a good job in Ghana. Nigerians need to be culled. ![]() did one idiooot not put 88 billion Naira in his personal account to generate income for his greedy and gluttonic self, other peoples pension, and we say we have a nation. I thought there was an Ethnic/ Tribalism thread here on NL, even though it is in the public interest for the news to be widely circulated but once the different proponents arguing for or against the unfortunate incident has gone down the un-glorified road of ethnic bashing including the idi***t who posted the story trying his/her possible best to flame the embers of hatred by pointing fingers towards “OPC” when it is clearly a case of an Area boy terrorizing an innocent member of the society. Irrespective of tribe this unfortunate incident could have befallen any Yoruba, Hausa, Edo, or Igala man who is unyielding and has a strong disposition to challenge unwarranted, wanton and rude behaviour. From my historical observance of such foolhardiest bravado witnessed here, it always end in tears for the person’s family. Same thing happened to a Nigerian in London who felt he was the star of the moment when he summarily despatched an unruly Jamaican right in front of his(Jamaican) girlfriend. (the Nigerian was a bouncer) Having had his glory for 5 minutes the unlucky Nigerian was tapped on the shoulder by this Jamaican boy who felt humiliated, when the Nigerian man turned around a 9 inch knife was buried right into his chest. That was the last we heard of our unfortunate friend and brother. Being Bravodoccios with men who have already bought their own coffin is one step too far, I hope a lot of you hot-head would learn from this unfortunate incidence. Anyway, may his soul rest in peace. |
I think CPC won a few states up North, PDP just use ‘Ogboju’ or Chance them, I am sure they won Katsina, where the 3 Senators were previously CPC now changed to PDP through backdoor politics, they won Kaduna State, they won Kebbi State, and I think they probably won Bauchi and Gombe States too |
EFCC AND AUDITORS SHOULD BEAM THEIR LIGHTS HOLLISTICALLY AT WHAT NORTHERN GOVERNORS ARE DOING WITH THE GRANTS FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERMENT. 1. YUGUDA'S 900 SPECIAL ASSISTANT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE. BIG SCAM I MUST SAY!!! 3. BORNO STATE IS PERPETUALLY A WAR ZONE, WHY IS THE FG STILL GIVING THE GOVERNOR GRANTS AND SECURITY VOTES WHEN IT IS CLEAR THERE CAN NEVER BE ANY DEVELOPMENT IN A WAR ZONE. WE DO NOT NEED TO LOOK TOO DEEP AT CONTEMPORARY HISTORY TO ASCERTAIN THIS FACT, AFGANISTAN AND IRAQ ARE SHINNING EXAMPLES OF WAR ZONE==NO DEVELOPMENT. 4. A ONE YEAR DRAWING A PENSION DOES NOT SPEAK WELL FOR THE NORTH IN ZAMFARA STATE 5. AND NEITHER DOES A SECURITY OFFICER OR GATE MAN GETTING PAID N6MILLION A MONTH GIVES ONE ANY HOPE. ![]() 7. Looks like we in the South are selfish, especially the Igbo’s. The Igbo’s venturing into the North was purely based on economic advancement of that family or individual. It was yet another capitalistic hegemonic move from the misery of a grossly flat-lined and over-entrpeneurnized eastern region to what is seen as new fallow grounds where the returns on investment is worth every while that led the Igbos to the North, it was said at times the profit made by some unubiquitous Igbo is more desirable than death. ( I beg to differ but some and many don’t share this position).Obviously when the tide turned against the Igbo man in the North, they scream “Blue Murder” Have we for a minute or a moment thought of the injustice and pains perpetuated against the indigenous Christians who have bee subjugated, forced, and enslaved in their own home states. These people have no where to run to? These voiceless people who populate many areas of present day Borno, Yobe, Bauchi and Gombe States and are made to either succeed in their chosen religion or die trying, most die trying, those that want and chose the easy way out embrace Islam in all its ramifications out of fear. Our hearts in the South should really be with these voiceless citizens of our country, whose fundamental human rights have been yanked off from their hands rather than the unubiquitous Igbo who can always carry their venture capitalistic streak to Lome, Coutonu or Accra after all we are all ECOWANS if the kitchen is too hot in Northern Nigeria. ![]() This cry baby attitude of the Igbo’s is unbecoming, especially when one knows their desire to relocate to the North is driven by making a quick buck and entrepreneurship, rather we should concentrate and put our energy on those minorities who are currently battered and enslaved to death in their own towns, state and country in the 21st century. ![]() That is my 2 cents thus, ![]() |

Too bad he's playing politics with the state's finance, I'm sure Imo state would go bankrupt soon. Why establish three new universities instead of expanding the existing ones beats me.Imo State has the largest number of candidates with a pass mark in Jamb that cannot for one reason or the other proceed to a Higher Instituion and the current setup at Imo State Uni cannot absorb this spill-over hence the reasons why more Universities needs to be established. It would be fool-hardy for Kebbi state to make such pronoucement when bearly 200 people pass school cert a yearly. |
Ebonyi state is dwindling, we are just waiting for that old dude tenure to end. This idea of waiting, na serious matter oh, can u imagine a child born when Elechi became Governor, by the time this clueless man finishes his tenure, the tenure in which people like you are eargely waiting for, that kid born yesterday would be in Primary 4. And if another clueless guy is selected not elected as the case has always been within the PDP Family, the baby would have finish Senior Secondar School, meanwhile the community, State or Province would have suffred bad Governance for 16 years. I can see why there are no development in Nigeria. ![]() |
mass hysteria, our husbands has gone mad again, but this time the world has gone bunkers!!!1 ![]() |
good idea I must say, how can a whole state have only one university and we say we are developing. London a city has more than 5 Universities, 3 University for a state is not too much. It means many of the graduates leaving school yearly would have places to look for jOBS. If those Universities employs 3000 people per Uni, that is 9,000 people gainfully employed in the state, 9000 people who would be paying taxes to the Goverment. So really it is a win-win sitiuation. |
My prayer is that may God enthrone Buhari as our president in 2015 so we can tackle corruption once and for all in naija. WITHOUT FIGHTING CORRUPTION, NAIJA CAN NEVER EVER PROGRESS. LET NO ONE KID HIMSELF BY EXPECTING ANY MEANINGFUL PROGRESS BY ELECTING CORRUPT AND DEMONICALLY POSSESED THIEVES INTO PUBLIC OFFICES.NO NATION ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD HAS MADE PROGRESS WITH CORRUTION BEING COMMONPLACE IN THEIR LIVES. THIRTEEN STRAIGHT YEARS OF DEMOCRACY AND LOOK WHERE WE STILL ARE DESPITE ALL OUR YEARLY TRILLION BUDGETS.I would vote a 90 year old Buhari than the bunch of hooligans coming on stream, even the young ones, they seem to be worse than the older ones. 20,000 Nigerians would go on exile if Buhari wins. |
@jarus u would definately get a P.A. Job if SLS holds a political post in future. Keep up the good work, at least we all want to be like Beaf!! ![]() |
Anybody celebrating these trains has been severely mentally bastardized by the subsequent hopelessly backward governments. What surprises me, those in Goverment, President, Governors and their various aides would not use a 1994 car but they expect the people they represnet to be using a train probably built in the 1960's that was still in service in 1994. Have you seen the plethora of cars used by our officials, 2011 Mecedes Benz, Fahola sef dey drive Range Rover 2011 model but yet deem it right to go buy some rust bucket from Canada. Could someone amongst you lot tell me the answer I gave the House Assembly men, when I was queried of where I got the money to bail out those ill and unsafe banks from, that is a task for you guys, go and check your achieves and get back to me, I would not repeat myself today, that is a puzzle and jamb question for you lot!!! ![]() Lady Pressman from one of the dailies: I know the answer sir, You printed it, CBN Governor: thats my girl, smart lady, all you men here should cover yourselves in shame, amongst other things we print money sparingly when we run out of money, yes these days you don't call them "print money" but rather the more acceptable term and political correct name of " quantitative easing" that sounds better, It makes me look good and intellectually clued up, even though what I am doing now and what Idi Amin and Mugabe were doing in their respective countries are similar, but my modus operendi has been tainted with some coat of respectability. Even our dear colonial masters are an ardent beleiver of this economic module!! ![]() Pressmen: We see sir, so how often do you print m ooooops I mean how often do you enbark on "quantitative easing exercise" CBN Governor: Oh, that is top secret, I can't divulge such information, the most important thing is we have answered your questions, thanks and good day. ![]() |
