Politics › Re: Lets Settle Our Differences, Igbo Group Tells Lagosians by lastpage: 8:44am On Jul 16, 2015
Spybradd:
@op,theres nothing that can be done about da so called bad blood btween igbos and yorubas..the northerners are the culprits, they know their parasiting arsse is done for the day da east and west unite and thats a day they pray never comes..a single mole post from a 5th columnist on any social platform like nl or on e-newspapers,etc,is enuf to rekindle the hatred all over and it cant be stopped. The yorubas are not helping matters either, theres southern nigeria 1st b4 nigeria and what da east, west and south south needs is true federalism.only the north kicks against true federalism due to its parasitic nature of wanting to reap foreva what it never sowed and its only natural and ideal and sensible for the entire south to align their resources together economically, structurally,POLITICALLY,etc, for a common goal and tackle the retrogressive draw-back north 1st before addressing their own differences. But what do we have, for no reasons whatsoever, west teams up with the same unproductive and retrogressive power drunk north and labels the east all manner of negativity..that freak oba's directive that all igbos drop into da lagoon just adds pms to da inferno and that man oughtta be answering questions at da hague..

IN THE ZOO KNOWN AS NIGERIA,ITS EITHER TRUE FEDERALISM,RESOURCE CONTROL,RIGHT TO SELF DETERMINATION OR DISINTEGRATION/REFERADUM. Enuf of da self deception and smokescreen unity.

Cc:yang
Permit me take you up on a few points that needs correction, in your wonderful post:

1.) The North does not want East and West to Unite: This is true. The EAST also does not want WEST and NORTH to Unite; Its all about survival.
But then, if the East knows this truism, what have they done about it, in all these decades?
Are you not aware of what happened when it was simply a case of "The North" and "The South" as in the East and West are considered as just "South". Years back? there were 22posts to be shared in governance. The North took 11 slots for itself and said the "South" should share the rest.
Igbos took 10 (ten) out of the 11slots and said Yorubas can only have 1 (one).
Do you think that such "brazen impunity and greed" is a basis for UNITY between East and West?

2.) Yorubas are not helping matters
: How? We are such a people that we are sensible enough to deal fairly with people, "If they deal fairly with us".
Do you remember what happened when Aguiyi Ironsi was Nigeria's Head of State? When an Igbo man was posted to head the only University in Nigeria, this University was built with proceeds of Cocoa from the WEST and it was built in Ibadan, in Yoruba land. Yes, Yoruba built this University otherwise it could have been in the Federal capital (Lagos) or anywhere else.
The Igbo Vice Chancellor, out of 33 posts/slots, installed Igbos like him in 30slots!
Left just three for the Yoruba indigenes who actually own the University!
Is that the type of "Igbo sense of EQUITY" that we are supposed to embrace?
Who then is not helping matters here?

3.) The WEST teams-up with the NORTH: You see, the WEST is not made up of daft people rather people who can "analyse and evaluate critically, situations as it develops"!
In 2009, the WEST teamed-up with Jonathan and Igbos (EAST), to ensure that he became President when the North wanted to "marginalize" him. In 2011, the WEST teamed up with the EAST once again, to return Jonathan as President, against the wishes of the North.

In those SIX YEARS, what did the WEST get in return, from the EAST? Marginalisation of the order that we did not even get under the Northern "born-to-rule" mentality!
So, are we to continue to allow ourselves to be "used and dumped" by the selfish Igbos/EAST who have this "grab-all" mentality ....
....or the Northerner who though thinks about itself first, still has some sense of EQUITY?

Igbos must be look back and be honest to themselves that they are the architect of their own failures in the Nigeria-Equation.

Yorubas are closer to the Igbos by Culture and Religion (Than the Northerners) and we also share borders so it is natural that we will like to integrate more with them than with Northerners.
Yorubas have also inter-married more with Igbos than any other tribe in Nigeria while Igbos live in hordes, PEACEFULLY, in Yorubaland, than anywhere else in Nigeria.
All these facts point to only one thing: Yorubas are naturally inclined towards the EAST, than the NORTH.

So, anyone who does not agree with you , must be from the S/West.... yet you are the one suing for peace a few click before now?
Truly, it is "not always far from the surface"! shocked shocked

You made a wrong post using "inaccurate examples" to justify your logic.
He called you out on it and corrected you.
What does it cost you, to check 'statements' you want to use to buttress your position, before posting them?
Or dont you know "deliberate misinformation" is even worse than "ignorant" lies? The fact that you already said 'Am not sure' implies you yourself are already in doubt of that statement so why dont you just "hold it back" till you are sure of it, before sending it out to your folks who were all applauding it like they heard the "Holy Grail"?

Instead of humbling agreeing that you were wrong, you tried to "dance around it", then you retorted to abuse and then "generalized" that he must be from the SouthWest?
You see the kind of MENTALITY we are talking about?
Unnecessarily Proud and Arrogant, unable to deal with criticism even when wrong, Aggressive and Bigoted!

Its like me saying "because l am annoyed with you and you are Igbo, then all Igbos are like you"! That will be extremely foolish!

Having said that, let us not get into fisty-cuffs again. Lesson learned.

where then is the fairness if most of them are not just tribal Bigots in this politics section, especially that goat ishylove?

Anyway, we are achieving our aim of setting up a discussion and l will urge guys not to get drawn into the "abuse lane" by some childish #WailingWailers here.

The first time i saw two men kissing was in London, specifically at the St James's Park on a cool summer day many years ago. I still remember the shock and revulsion i felt.

I stood transfixed, staring at them for about 5 Minutes and was just turning my head around like AM I THE ONLY ONE SEEING this, and then it hit me, i was no longer in Africa and even if i had been living in the US, i was yet to see two men kiss. It was a cultural shock for me to see two men make out.

I hated gays.

So what am i saying?people should let other people live their lives the way they deem it fit. what you cannot correct, leave alone.
GAY ALERT Ooooo! shocked

Nobody hate Gays and other sexual perverts
You guys like to hide and camouflage under this guise of HATE and HUMAN RIGHTS when in actual fact, you know what the score is really is!

What Africa and Nigeria in particular are saying is this:
*We have a Culture which forbids perversion of this sort
*We have a Religion which condemns it also
*Even our animals like Dogs and Goats dont hump gender of the same sex, they respect the reason why nature made us "Male and Female".
*We also realize the selfishness involved, if everyone tries to satisfy their selfish interest, on the alter of "CHOICE and FREEDOM", which are never absolute! who will propagate our generations unborn?
*Anyone could as well be a killer or psychopath and claim that is his "choice" and we must all allow it
shocked shocked

So, we said, if you have chosen the EVIL path as your own ways, DO IT WITHIN YOUR OWN CONFINES!
LIVE AND LET US LIVE
Dont shove it into our face

Dont go to teach our infants in their school
Dont try to force us to redefine MARRIAGE to suit you perverse ways.

That cant be too difficult now?
Why try to force a straight nation to become GAY, is that not an infringement on our own democratic rights?
Abi na by force?

America is like a sinking person who vows to ensure that he takes other down along with it. Ist not about power or money, its about the hUMANS SPIRIT and WHAT WE StAND FOR, HERE ON EARTH

American Ambassador: As a government, it is one of the highest priorities and strongest values that discrimination against anyone based on their sexual orientation and gender identity is wrong. We believe human rights should be available to everybody.
“As a policy, we will continue to press the government of Nigeria, as well as other governments which have provided legislation that discriminate against the LGBT community.”

Well, you can attempt whatever you like, it will be whether our leaders like our Senators/NASS and our amiable President are weak or strong enough to resist ..but they can be sure majority of us are with them on this.

Stop the deception, it has nothing to do with human rights, discrimination or choice. It is simply EVIL and Nigerians have said NO TO IT .

Yorubas are tired of Ibos like this OP hiding behind a moniker to profess and claim, deceptively , a Yoruba ethnicity.

True Yorubas got the message already and we stand on our resolve to widen the gap and differences between us and Ibo. It is not negotiable with a sober attempt to reconcile after the damage is done. Where was this reconciliation group to caution and humble their wayward sons in the early stages of their insults? Their attempt is reflective of the impending losses that will follow their demise were Yoruba to rise up and send back home....its not genuine reconciliation at all.

If Jonathan had won reelection there would never have been an Ibo group calling for reconciliation of interest with Yoruba...their impunity would have increased, supported from the center by their positioned brothers in power.

We know whats up, shove your apologies in your @$$.
I feel you pulse omo'ya!

But l want you to look at it from this angle: In every family, there are bound to be the "He-Goat" but that does not mean all of the children are He-Goats!
*What l am saying is that there comes a time when some people see the light and realize that they have been hating for no good reason.
*Others realize they have been poisoned intentionally or mis-informed for selfish reasons
*Others repent and get born-again
*Other become wise and realize what they are doing is not even in their interest.

In such scenarios, if the accused realizes his error and sues for peace, who are we to say NO?
We are Yorubas and our intelligence is what defines us. We are able to tell ourselves the truth as we dont suffer "herd mentality".

My guy, I don't think you handled this well. The policy was to HELP Igbos who had lost everything a new start. Those who had PROPER DOCUMENTATION of money they had in any bank got their money. Now remember, this was 20 pounds in the 70s. Most Nigerians were not even making up to that in a year.

Let's just be clear; those crying about the 20 pound policy are ingrates. Many of them came with forged documents to claim money they didn't have or simply tried to claim money they never had; got 20 pounds but still turned around to cry a river. Once again, those who had proper docs and proof got all their money back.
I want to thank for correcting me on this.
I just remembered that even Ojukwu got all his father's property at Ikoyi back....... even after over a decade of "self-declared" absentia.
Twenty pound in those days was actually like a miillion naira into days values afterall, teachers end 2.5pounds monthly back then.

No group in Nigeria embrace the one Nigeria ideology more than the Igbos. Igbos are the most integrating group of people not just in Nigeria but anywhere. They are well travelled and can blend anywhere.

Those shouting Biafra should not be used to judge majority of the people working hard and minding their businesses. It's silly verbal, physical and other forms of intimidations which those innocent and harmless ones get subjected to that make them reflect about Nigeria as a country.

People should stop being paranoid about this no man's land issue. Does shouting no man's land stop Lagos being in its current geographical location? For the record, Lagos benefitted a lot by being the former capital of Nigeria same way Abuja is now.
Oga Gboosa,
Na only you waka come for this one o! grin

Seriously, there are at least three states in Nigeria, that have been Federal Capital:

1.) Calabar in Cross river state. Would you consider or how would the Calabar indigene feel if you say his homeland is NO MAN's land? Akpan will literally use cutlass to design your head!

2.) Abuja : Whether we like it or not, Abuja though a federal capital, the land space is owned by the indigenous people and they are Huasas. period!
That the Federal Govt uses it as a state Capital, is just an administrative decision, which could change tomorrow and Enugu may be next!
I will wonder what that Igbo ma will say, if l a Yoruba person say Enugu is no longer Igbo land, ....that it is a No-Man's land!

I still wonder, why are some Igbos are so fixated on owning Lagos, somewhere so far from the S/East?
If Igbos are the ones that developed Lagos as claimed, how difficult would it be, to REPLICATE SAME in the East?
We all know this is falsehood and it is never going to happen.

Lagos has been a bustling commercial and Slave trade hub even before the white Brits came to Africa. It has to do with ist location.
Read History of West Africa and read about the Natives who were shipped to South America s and the Caribbeans from Lagos Agabdarigi.
Just like no one can beef the ND for being located by destiny, where majority of Nigeria's crude is located, no one can beef Calabar for its serene beaches, Abuja for it Rocks nor Lagos for it Oceanic scenery.

You know saying Lagos belongs to no one is like trying to usurp what belongs to others and is borne out of plane GREED!

Why not just be prudent and wise and leave that "ownership tussle" to the indigenes because if push become shove, those who relocated cannot be larger than the indigene and if it gets nasty, what happens in the North, hopefully, will not be replicated down west.
Is it not a good thing that Igbos are "completely free to reside own property, trade, marry and do anything they wish in Lagos, without nay fear of molestation or threats?
Why do you want to change such a beautiful status, out of sheer greed and selfishness?
How many times do you see Yorubas claiming they own Abuja or Calabar? Never because they knwo what it means: SHEER GREEDINESS!

and permit me to remind you that being the most traveled does not translate to being the most integrated!
You travel because you need to! You need to do business of selling in those places, no t just for the pleasure or likeness of it
Integration means "assimilating the culture and way of life of the host community", .....not dragging land ownership with them or isnsulting them at every opportunity!
That is not how to integrate Sir

Let us first focus on building trust while eschewing all those things that can "set-off alarms" in each others head.
I think we can still live together and have a good relationship without trying to create a tussle over Lagos.....
because whichever way you dice it., Omo Eko will always own Lagos. Its a generational thing!

Let us preach tolerance, justice and fairness, at all times.

Once again, Thanks for your opinion

It treats the issue from the perspective of a Yoruba person.

Not sure if the Mod will promote it to front page but you can peep-in and offer your own opinion/suggestions.
Its worth the effort.

Please: No foul language or insults... just respond as you feel, in a mature manner. Your opinion is important

9jacrip:
The OP's attempt at offering explanations and also extending an arm of friendship makes no sense. Like someone rightly said, social media is a conduit for venting but where the person got it wrong was saying it does not go beyond that (just online).

I want all Yoruba folks on this thread to be honest or go back to conduct a survey amongst their kin folks/friends weighing their thoughts about Ibos. Whatever response you get, you can share or ponder over it.

From my end, most folks I know and those I do not but whose opinions I weighed both old and young adults were uninterested in ibo shenanigans in the time past, they just shrugged or chuckled at everything. Over the recent year(s) they have become different in that everyone now seems to be coming out of some sort of trance or where they buried their heads and realizing offenses or characteristic attitude of Ibos they have had whatevrr interaction with and they have become angry (an example is the Oba Akiolu's outburst, an apparent break of a pent up anger). More recently, I was surprised to witness Ibo/Yoruba discussion degenerate so fast into the Yorubas saying stuffs to the Ibos face, I stayed mute.

The fact is, the anger is widespread and it is growing rapidly, the OP's thread is unnecessary as things are not likely to get better -
Sir, You are speaking from a hypocritical point of view!
What was your conclusion when yo conducted the same survey on Igbos? Do share it with us please.

You offered us "what happened or is happening" ...but not "WHY it is happening", which is even more important!
In time past, it is true they just shrug it over .... but now they are reacting!

The QUESTION is WHY are they reacting now, if they never reacted before, and just shrugged it off?
*Could it be it was getting more brazen?
*Could it be they are getting fed-up?
*Could it be it is increasing in intensity?
*Could it be that the use of Social Media had provided an anonymous platform for hatefulthings to be said without any fear of repercussion?
*Could it be........

These are what a HONEST and NON_BIGOTED PERSON will seek to understand by investigation, not just accuse people of an offense ..... and that is what we are trying to do here so that if we know the WHY's, we can then tell ourselves some home truths and then "make-up" after offering our apologies ......because apologies are easier to make, easier ot accept as sincere, if both parties have clarified the issues involved

Having said that, l want to thank you for your opinion. You have shed light on another angle of the discussion.
Would you by any chance, be ready to let the past go, and forgive, if you have the opportunity to do so.... or would you hold on to the bitterness and hatred of the past?

Thanks, once again.

What makes me pissed off, is when I see the type of silly comment!!!
Out of 5 Igbo State, 3 has oil...nd out of that 3, 2 (Imo nd Abia) are already among the NDDC states nd get oil allocations/derivation (can't remember the name of the allocation now)
So in ur pawpaw mind, Igbos are the 1s in dying need of ur "so-called oil"..a tribe that has OIL ALREADY!!!
Pls State where nd when the agitators of Biafra in Recent times has "begged" or "Forced" the Southsouth to join the Strugglehuh Tell me huh
The point is that many of your kind, don't even have an in-depth knowledge abt Biafra!!! Nd are quick to jump into hasty conclusions!!
Even this oil thing self...
Many Great Countries of the World don't produce or have Oil cheesy
China, England, Germany, Spain, Japan, Singapore e.t.c get Oil huh huh
Even the USA u hear, only recently started utilising their own Oil resources....
Don't lay over emphasis on Oil....without other countries buying it 4rm u, u are doomed!!!
Let there just be a new efficient source of energy, na una go drink dat una oil..abeggii..NEXT!!
Bros, u don dey show your hand small-small o! shocked shocked shocked

As a "non-igbo"! grin grin grin
take am sofry-sofry o!
dont get angry at anyone for thinking differently from you, it why it is called an "opinion".
What they see in Newyork as morning, is what we see in Nigeria as evening (7hours difference) at the same time! wink

Thanks for your opinion

BTW: Funnily, l could almost decipher an Igbo person, even if he was born in Lagos and had lived all his life in Lagos (meaning pseudo-yoruba sort of), by his choice of words in a sentence! grin grin undecided

Seems we all have "peculiar choice of words" we use, especially when we are not trying to be elusive!

Flawed logic....
In as much I don't support some of the ambiguous requests made by "some" Igbos..
Nw let's look @ it logically..
Igbo has the 2nd largest population in Lagos (Yoruba being the 1st)- so it is based on this fact, that "some" igbos feel the should to an extent enjoy "some/same" privileges with their Yoruba counterparts..that's just it...
Have u heard Igbos in any other Southwest state request 4 anythinghuh NO...bcuz the don't have significant number nd "economic importance"

Nd oga easy with the Bastard calling, Lastpage create this thread 4 a good purpose...pls stop d insult..

Ps.. I am not a Biafra supporter!!!
U talk well Bros.

Are you aware that Lagos Fashola was the first to have an Igbo State Commissioner?
Are you aware that there are a few LGA Chairmen of Igbo origin in Lagos state?

Going by percentage of total population, Igbos are less than 10% of Lagos population (Dont foget Lagos has five divisions, as far as Epe!)

dont you think Lagos and Yorubas are generous on that account or less say "accommodating" to that effect?

How many Yoruba Commissioners do we have in the Eastern state?

But that is not even the point.
The main thing is to show appreciation to your host, to "arrange them" (as in Aponle) such that they feel honored and not to get into a confrontational attitude with them.
This will go a long way in ensuring that you are sure-footed in their domain as they will not be looking over their shoulders and wondering what next you intend to grab!
....and if we go by antecedents of the Igbo then back, when they had the Ultimate Power as Head of state of Nigeria, Bros, it was a bit scary o! shocked shocked

Having said that, we are now in 2015 and our efforts should be focused on "re-assuring ourselves, integrating ourselves, breaking down barriers" yet some are still shouting Biafra and Nnamdi Kanu is still shouting and inciting Igbos to kill Yorubas anywhere they find them in the East.
Has he forgotten that a lot of Igbos also live in the South West?

Anyway, we are going to encourage all Igbos who have "faith in this Olive Branch and believe in EQUITY" to take a leap of faith.
We have die-hards within us as well as you have but the "good ones" must speak up for Peace while trying to convince the die-hards to let bygones be bygones.

Thanks for your opinion
