Politics › Re: Govs Move Against Planned Removal Of Immunity Clause by lastpage: 5:14am On May 10, 2012
But why cant we use the "same arguments" we used on the governors, be used for the Presidency?
Why should the immunity clause be good for removal when it comes to Governors, but bad when it comes to President, V.P and his entourage?

If it will make the Governors accountable, then it should make the President accountable!
If it will make the President vulnerable, then it would make the Governors vulnerable as well!

Public officer, na Public officer! Sauce the Geese, Sauce the Gander!

That way, the Governor will not have to be afraid of an over-bearing President (in this PdP Vs. Other Parties roforofo fight!)

Overall, l think it will be better for this country in the long run, to remove that immunity clause!

To be an "unaccountable" public officer
........is an absolute anathema to progress, in my view!

^^^^^ No Place like HOME my brother! Boko Haram or not!!
Its a feeling one gets, when one gets to a certain level in life!

Something to do along the "Maslow's Heirachy of Needs"
.....if you get my drift!

My 2cent:
1.) Buy land and build your own House. Dont plan something "mighty" that would just be a "sink of funds", just a small four-five bedroom Bungalow on a Plot of Land.
Dont go and buy land in the bush o, u wont be able to live there! Dangerous sef! grin

2.) Let Husband go first. (men are usually the scape goat for such experiments! grin )
Otherwise, the person with the better-paying job in Yankee should hold the job and let the other go first.
If things dont work as expected, fail-over plans will kick-in.

3.) The "adventurer" if not in employment, can start a family business (better as employers in Naija are somehow).
He will grow the business till a level that it can support a family, then Madam can come over and become GMD! shocked
And pray none of those "Lagos babes" cause scatter-scatter for your Gari! By fire by force nowadays!

4.) Avoid V.I like a plague. very unstable and just expensive! Ikeja, Ojodu, Maryland, (cant remember this estate along the Express from Bariga side) are comparatively good, cheaper and accessible alternatives. If you have good money, buy an old house, demolish and rebuild around those areas.

5.)Consider children's schooling. We have many good private schools in Lagos now but they are very expensive, unlike the Free education (at least to secondary level) in obodo Oyinbo!

6.)Surprisingly, food is costlier in Lagos than in U.S or Europe! U will get what you eat over here but you will pay good money for it.

7.)DO your budget, save enough money to last you like 3years (without any income), then start your move (after your house is complete).

Going back home is evreyones dream, once you've "conquered" the West, what else?

Lastpage!

BTW: those who are here (and who have lived in Naija before coming over), want to go back home!
Those who are at home and have not lived outside want to relocate and move out! huh ---- (Should you not be curious as to why these naturalized citizens want to relocate back home? You might be surprised o! grin )
Different strokes for different folks! grin

Travel › Re: Arik Air And Fraud, What Arenigerians Doing. by lastpage: 3:48am On May 10, 2012
I think you have the right to "cancel" a Direct debit on your account, up to 24hrs (depending on bank, two days in some cases) after initiating it for an online transaction. Just INFORM YOUR BANK IN WRITING IMMEDIATELY.

If they dont act on it (the bank), it becomes their liability and they will have to recoup the money from the Creditor but they will put your money back in your own account meanwhile..

With the level of epileptic internet service in Nigeria (E go connect small, then e go break-off so tey! grin ) it is not unusual to have incomplete transactions. This is one thing that Malam Sanusi that was whining about "Cashless Economy", failed to understand.

In Banking, the transaction simply rolls-backwards, if not fully committed.
That is how Arik Portal should be made to work.

Charging customers 25% for incomplete transactions is nothing but FRAUD!
Anyway, your transaction was not for "25%" thus, you are not paying for such transaction!

Why not a few of you who have been affected, band together and sue Arik to court in a class action?

Believe me, it does work! Go and ask some Zenith Bank staff (after thousand have suffered same faith from the likes of Continental, UBA, Oceanic Banks retrenchment without proper severance pay!) that were bold and patient enough to tale civil action.

If you wont put your foot down, then dont complain when they put their foot in YOUR MOUTH! wink grin tongue

Go ask Fela: Suffering and Smiling! shocked

In parallel with judges, we will take a good look at "NEPA" and asked all saboteurs to voluntary resign immediately or be ready for a twenty-five years imprisonment with hard labor! Some would go, seeing that the government is "serious" about eradicating corruption (check out the Buhari/Idiagbon regime and their war against indiscipline! I saw Nigerians queuing-up and not throwing paper on the ground anymore, even without anyone watching!). The "hard ones" will linger behind and end-up in jail or get tied to a barrel at Bar beach, no doubt.

By hook or crook, we will have steady power supply within one year; we will build new Power stations (smaller ones for rural areas and let each state manage its own generated power and sell at its own commercial rate) that everyone can see as it progresses and we will have Turn-around maintenance (TAM) that everyone can notice (even if we have to put a camera on the site and broadcast live pictures!). Everyone will get the electricity they pay for as every house will have a “Pay as You Use” Card Meter. No credit, No Electricity! We no send. Cost will be reasonable anyway.

We will completely ban importation of Fuel generators by individuals. Govt will buy-up or confiscate all "for sale" Generators in private hands immediately and "issue out" (through a single Agency) to the Public at give-away prices, starting from people in the Villages! We know that very soon, it will become obsolete! grin especially in the cosmopolitan areas. We will deal a very heavy hand of Prison term on anyone found to have collaborated in ensuring that Nigerians are in darkness all these years, especially if they have ever worked for NEPA ---firing squad, straight if you worked in Nepa and imported Generators or Transformer at the same time!

These ones will then be followed by the reform of "Govt Agencies" like Customs, Immigration, Port Authority, e.t.c . By the time we even reach these ones, judging by what has happened in say the last 18months, hardly will we meet 50% level of staff in the place. We will have to beg Nigerians to please come and work in Govt Agencies! We will pay you well and salary will come latest 23rd of every month (like in the 70’s) but just try and steal public property or abuse your office…..God help you.

Death penalty at Bar Beach and other major open places will be used to "re-align" peoples thinking to "Put Your country first" and you can bet that every Nigerian, anywhere in the world, will be proud to say I am a Nigerian, within three years!

Anyone that knew how and what “Oshodi” in Lagos was, before Fashola became Governor, anyone that knew what and how Central Lagos (Isale Eko Area) was before he became Governor, and sees the same areas today, will agree with me that "where there is a will, there is always a way"!
Nothing is impossible for a Commander-in-Chief, except if l want to be a weakling!

*SIG ensures that each contractor gets 50% fund on approval, has access to the balance anytime during the job and MUST work to a time-table without any excuse. Any defaulting contractor who "acts funny" is giving the "Kirikiri treatment" while his assistant is given the go-ahead to continue where his Oga stopped! smiley. All these would have been explained properly at the Contract tender-stage such that each contractor knows what they are signing for (l bet not many contractors will apply for a job here, except the serious ones! grin )

*SIG will do a "Performance Review" every three months while the C-in-C will do same for the SIG, every six months. With the adequate remuneration in place, we will surely have a queue of “reputable individuals” waiting to take over anyone’s job, even if just to prove they can do better but the crooks will not feel so encouraged as they know that severe punishment awaits anyone caught pants down! I will encourage Public office holders to adopt a system of the Japanese: Fall on your own sword, if you fail the Nation! Otherwise, we would put you to the sword in public. Suicide by Public officers, will become very fashionable as well! Just imagine the Minister for Power committing suicide if he does not deliver on the promised 1200KVA Plant by December 2012? Nice, ain’t it?

Worthy of note is that "Funds' is usually a major issue here.
C-in-C would create a special account called "Police reform fund", where 1% of crude sales s accrued, on a weekly basis. Proper "paper trail" of income and expenses MUST be generated and circulated to appropriate audit authorities. Any sharp practice will result in firing squad for offenders, no long story! At least our “pot-bellied” Army personnel will have their hand full, for once in a long time and our kids will have something more entertaining than “home video” to watch on Fridays…and they will also learn early in life that crime pays, as long as the currency is in ‘bullets”! As a kid, l watched “Oyenusi”, “Mighty Joe” and a few other notorious criminals hug a bullet at Bar Beach and that alone has instilled in me, respect for other people’s sweat.
Once the Police has reached an appreciable level of reform, we move next to the Judiciary (and a lot of these useless "Ghana must go" Judges will go to Bar Beach firing range and long term imprisonment!)

*SIG gets and approves the increase in Police salary to be at par with that of Doctors or other professionals; minimum 150K monthly. He also establishes "clear-cut" path-way for reward and promotion based on "exemplary performance". Promotion is no longer based on “number of years” served.
*SIG recruits 15,000 to 25,000 GRADUATE POLICE OFFICERS for every state, based on the state’s population (Lawyers, Engineers, Doctors, Psychologist, Architects, Scientists, e.t.c. Every discipline has a use and need, in the force. (This alone will solve half of our "youth unemployment" problem). He kits them fully (Radios, Boots, Bullet-proof Vest, Baton, Pepper Spray, "Cuff-links" grin and a very attractive White Shirt over Navy Blue Trousers, with a matching jacket (4-pairs for each officer). (Only "Special Crime Units" will carry Weapons). Each officer, as part of his Training (at least three months every year for the first five years in service)is trained and must excel in Hand combat and self defence. This is what he will use in dealing with “ordinary street criminals and thugs; other serious criminals like kidnapper, drug dealers and armed gangs will be handled by localized “Fully armed Special Crime units” who wont be saddled with daily street patrol. They will be “radioed-in” on demand. No more accidental discharge! Every bullet expended MUST be accounted for, every day.

*SIG ensures continuous recruitment of the best brains (and who have the right motivation to fight crime), from our higher institutions, with thorough background checks to replace those that will definitely "fall short" of expected standards as time passes.
*SIG ensures that the Force is equipped with squad cars at a minimum rate of three-officers to one car. He signs a contract with say Toyota or Peugeot , to supply, repair and replenish squad cars as they run-short, develop fault or die-out! Fueling should be a matter of "Paper work" only (Fuel Station records Reg. Number, Odometer Reading (to guide against "fuel suckers"!), let officer Show I.D and sign. Payment will be made from 'Central Office' after proper verification)

DISCIPLINE
SIG RETIRES ALL NON GRADUATES and all officers at Commissioner-level and above, currently in service (He will pay them their full entitlement and they have the option to retrain as Private Security men or learn a Trade as they settle down to civilian life).

*SIG makes each serving officer to declare his net-worth and total assets. Any Assets found out and not declared is immediately confiscated, one year jail term for offender and a fine of 10% niara value of such asset must be paid to government to offset imprisonment cost of such officer. Immediate dismissal from service to follow. All the ill-gotten assets of previous I.G’s and other serving officers (from illegally acquired Okadas, to illegally built mansions in Abuja), will be confiscated and sold to the Public at market price
*SIG ensures new recruits know exactly who is the Boss ---- THE PUBLIC! Yes, they are recruited to serve the Public, with respect and courtesy but must uphold the law with firmness! “To Serve and to Protect” will be given real meaning and enforced at all levels.
*SIG sets-up a Police Ombudsman body to examine and put to trial, complaints against Police officers, from members of the Public. Immediate dismissal or Promotion, is one of the recommendations of the body.

*SIG seeks and get the collaboration of "experienced outfits" like the MET Police (on a Government-to-Government level) to assist in training our officers in areas like “Canine (dog) Units” and other specialized areas. Officers are also sent on "exchange program” to deepen their knowledge.
*SIG ensures that "bulk" of the officers (especially those that will be involved in Policing the community, those that do foot/bicycle patrols in neighbourhoods), serves in his area, where he lives, where he is known and where he knows the terrain properly. He knows the thieves and they know him, if something gets amiss, let us see which excuse he will give for not solving the crime ASAP, before he is charged for dereliction of duty!. Of-course, the "Service" will also develop multi-pronged strategy to ensure that corrupt/compromised officers are weeded out as quickly as possible, using special "Sting Units".

*SIG ensures that Mobile Telecoms Companies cooperate in ensuring that 911 0r 999 0r 111 emergency numbers connect as priority, at all times. Every "emergency call” must be responded to immediately by officers nearby.
*SIG awards contract for installation of Street-level CCTV, connected to each station by Radio Signals, powered with Solar Energy. (Pending when The declared emergency in the Power Sector is given the same "radical approach", as the Police Reform).
Politics › Re: If You Have The Power Of C-in-c (Nigerian President) What Can You Do In A Year? by lastpage(op): 3:21am On May 10, 2012
Lets me start with the POLICE FARCE!
If we don’t solve the “Police Problem”, Laws would never be enforced in this lawless country and if that being the case, corruption cannot be fought in anyway! With corruption as it is, development of any kind, would just be starring at us, from a mile away. And with no development, we will continue to sink deeper and wallow in poverty (at least the majority) while the rest of the world make comedy films out of us and re-inforce the stewpid theory that black people inferior by nature!
So, whether we accept it or not, the Police is our WORST ENEMY! We only relate with them (as they are now) for now, cause we have no choice!

*As C-in-C, l will start by first using my executive power to "appoint" a competent individual (Not the most senior thieving Police DIG, not even necessarily a Policeman, just a dedicated, disciplined and focused person) and give him a "performance-based", very clear and measurable mandate to reform the Police, within a time frame of One year.
*Lets take it that such person is also empowered by Presidential decree/ executive power to do his job as required. I call that person "Super I.G" (SIG).
Let me be such appointed person, for now and the Police Reform will be my first assignment.
Here we go.
COMMAND STRUCTURE:
*SIG will run Police like a PLC Company, in terms of structure (as against profit making). He hand-picks twelve TRUSTED ASSISTANTS on rolling eight months contract-basis (Two for each of six Geo-political zone) and a basic element of each contract is immediate termination and/or prosecution for non-performance or breach of code of conduct. Same principle applies and trickle downwards for any "hand-picked" person. This is to ensure flexibility, responsibility and accountability. Each "pair" in turn, hand picks twelve men for each of the six zones. These will be the supervising State Commissioners (and a Deputy) (Civilians Executive Secretaries, that is two for each state.)
Performance and delivery of "Set Milestones" will be their brief.
. They also have the power to immediately fire and submit for prosecution, those below them, if they fail in their duties.

SIG sets to work:
WELFARE ISSUES:
*SIG immediately awards the building of new Police Stations, standard ones equipped with Wireless Radio connectivity with each other, Laptops, desktops (networked and connected) and Walkie-Talkies for each officer, across the nation. Each station is equipped with CCTV monitoring stations (each room there-in is also covered with at least one camera), Back-Up Power Generating Sets and other amenities like Rest room, Store, Locker Cupboards, air conditioners, e.t.c

*SIG awards contract for the building of modern Hostels for officers on "outside station duty”, to be used and surrendered once such duty terminates (no family members allowed...(end of all those bar.sta.rd police-children-turned-armed robbers!)) and passes a law that no Policeman should serve outside his STATE for more than three months except on "special undercover duty".

In a recent discussion thread, concerning the one year anniversary of our current President, a lot of people ave complained that he has not achieved much, others have said he has achieved so much while some said he just appears not to be "around" at all. The job is definitely not an easy one but some have also opined that "Any bird that cannot carry a chicken, should not lay claim to be an Eagle"! For such people, a Commander MUST Command.

If you're made the President and Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C)of this country, what would you do within one year? What would will be your priority? How would you go about it?
Lets just "state our own ideas, methods and process" below.

Everyone has different ways of solving a problem thus, dont start insulting someone simply because you think their ideas does not agree with yours.
Just state your own.
PLEASE KEEP IT CIVIL, DEVOID OF ANY TRIBAL FISTY-CUFFS...and last but not the least, dont insult our C-in-C.
He represents a position, our National Sovereignty!. I know how you feel, all the same.

Sagamite: Will his powers as C-in-C give police criminals the expertise, brains, integrity and equipment to be competent by tomorrow morning?

What about next week? Will his powers have made the NPF become Scotland Yard by then? What of 6 months time? One year?

When and how do you think his powers as C-in-C would be capable of transforming the police competence to detect, prevent or stop someone that wants to blow himself up for Allahu Akbar?

How does power transform 1000 illiterate Kasalis to 1000 scholarly Sherlock Holmes?

If I gave you the power to head Nigeria's Space Management Agency today and told you to use your powers to build a space ship to take Nigerians to the Moon by next year, would your new powers make you achieve it?

Is power the simple solution to all problems?

We should be blaming incompetent and unfocused past leaders for giving us criminals in uniform as Police officers. We should heap most blame of past NPF IGs and senior management.

They are responsible for employing illiterate areaboys as police officers that only know how to exploit ordinary Nigerians. Giving them poor-to-no training and then living large as Big Men instead of monitoring their performances. They are responsible for the rot. Not Jonathan!

It will take years and money to change it, not power. The years during which Boko Haram would kill more people.
There is A LOT that Power alone can do, if in the right hands.
Shortage of money was never (and should never be)our problem otherwise the money would have finished by NOW, with all the "Billions" that everyone is making-off with!

From the NPN days, to IBB, his military Governors, to Abacha, Abdusalami, to OBJ and his band of crooks, to Yar Adua's kitchen cabinet, to the new set of NASS members and the current "Boat-man" without shoes! Its not going to finish soon either!

Agreed that one needs a "reasonable time" to achieve set objectives, one year is a "life time" for some "living things" and they start and end their life cycle within it!

With "Power" in the hands of "the right person", it just takes focus, determination and dedication to achieve what some cannot achieve in a life time, to be achieved within a year.
If l start here, it will take a whole thread but l hope we can really have a thread that says "What l can do, If l have "Power" as Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) like Jonathan".
Just imagine!

Tgirl4real: Lastpage,

I sincerely hope this idea works. I have used such method for my hubby several times with regards to our baby. I usually, leave a web page open on his computer to read about childcare or do a print out. He reads and acknowledges, only to repeat the same thing 2weeks later.lol. Though with a lil improvement.grin

The man needs conselling
. And, such people only listen to an authority on the subject. I'm sure a public childcare expert will do a good job.
With those little-little improvements, he will get better.
The Police, Judge, Social workers ARE NOT about "correction", they are more about PUNISHMENT! This is because their work and position are based ON LAW....and you know the law could be an ass!

If you give a child the benefit to decide, he would rather that his father/mother be "politely advised and counseled" than S/he be jailed for child-abuse.

The "interest of the child" is not the punishment the parent gets, but that he becomes a better parent, for the benefit of that child.

Lastpage!

BTW: On a general level, l think spouse who talk ill of their other spouse (husband or wife) are creating a very toxic environment for child up-bringing because by hearing what you say of his/her other parent, you are making him/her loose respect for them and when they grow up, they become an "unbalanced and dysfunctional parent", also!

Same thing i thought!

I wonder if people truly think the boy will be happy if the Police cautioned his father for beating him.
Okay, l no say you stubborn pass the "average kid" in those days!
Looking at things now, l hereby increase your own to twelve lashes .....and it means you are now in "arrears" of like 1000 lashes!

Can you "please" pull your trousers down right now and let me administer the "arrears"? grin grin wink

I still cant understand, "What is the relationship between BH bombing Lagos, and the actualization of your Biafra"?
You dont need to incite terrorism, to actualize Biafra....Just go ahead and declare, of your own fee-will!
I sense that "some" Igbo people are still secretly seeking Revenge/Vengeance, against the Yorubas? Seems the the bitterness of the civil war has not completely left their system.

But the truth is that by nature, The Yorubas are a very discerning people
(which the "gra-gra" tribe interprets as cowardice! grin ) and no amount of "pushing and prodding" will make them start a fight when they are not ready for it or if they wont win the fight!

Its called SMARTNESS

Lastpage!

BTW: Has it ever occurred to the Igbos that no single entity in Nigeria (among the three main nationalities) can declare a succession and survive it, without the support of at least another nationality?
If the Igbos are serious about "breaking-away successfully", they have a choice:

1.)Court the friendship of the Yorubas/South West (the same people you have been insulting all day!) and seek their support and together, you can over-power the North. No brainer!

2.) Court the support of the North (That looks like a Carmel trying to pass through the eye of the needle! shocked as experience from the North shows how they "see" Igbos) and the South West can do nothing about it. As a mater of fact, they will simply declare their own Republic as well.

From the above, l think any "rational and sensible" Igbo person knows where to pitch their tenth, not all these "gra-gra and mouthing" that seems to be the penchant of some Igbo guys.
Remember: Those who spread Ants on their bed in the afternoon would not have an easy sleep (or any sleep at all) during the night! (Yoruba Proverb! grin )

I love the Igbo tribe but l think (IMO) they are getting too boastful, too hasty in their actions and going about 'self-determination' in a wrong way but l do support their aspirations to a separate country.

Family › Re: Does A Father Have The Right To Excessively Beat His Children? by lastpage: 8:53am On May 07, 2012
pheesayor: The father has refused to listen to pleas by everyone even his close friends. He recently bought a mini piano for the elder one, something the younger one demanded for before now and didn't get(the elder one attends a private boarding school in otta). We told his teacher about it and the teacher confirms its having a negative effect on the child in school, we told him to discuss it with the father which he did, the beatings reduced for a while but he started again.
The irony is the boy still loves his father but needs help. Any human rights or child rights group I can contact? And what does the child right law of lagos state say about this?
Just looking at the "Heading" of your post, the first thing that crossed my mind is: WHY WOULD YOU INCLUDE TH PHRASE "EXCESSIVELY", in your Question?
By doing that, you 'seem' to show that you have a grouse, ab initio! And that my friend, makes your story to appear one-sided, like you are already bent on painting a bad picture of 'this father', to the world (remember he is not here to state his own side of the story or defend/deny these accusations!)

As you know, anything "excessive", even something as mundane as drinking water, IS BAD!
I would not even condone a "parent" beating their child, except in very very rare circumstance where all and repeated "civil entreaties" have failed to yield result.

Even at that, "caning a child" should not be for "punishment" but for "correction"
and thus, the METHOD USED to administer such caning is VERY IMPORTANT:
1.) Call your child aside and explain to him/her, what you are about to do (administer cane! grin )
2.)EXPLAIN (l cannot over-emphasize the importance of this) why caning is the "only option" left
3.) Never cane your child when you are ANGRY, the anger will transfer to your "hands" and into the cane and you will "abuse" the process (excessive).
4.) Do like the British Police (They put handcuffs on bad people and use "please" at the same time! grin ), ask him to "please" extend his hand (or buttocks as the case may be! shocked ) and administer the cane.
5.) Remember that excessive caning will defeat the purpose of "correction" thus, administer not more than three strokes for children less than 10yrs, four for ages 10 - 14,(six is allowed for a repeated offender that stole something! grin ). maybe a "smack" for older ones but in reality, if you have done a good job at the "early years", you only need to "bark' at your older children (14 and over) and they will fall in line!
6.) When done with the caning, dont leave your child to "brood over the caning" by himself; immediately, draw him towards yourself, tell him how much you love him and how much pain you feel that you have to cane him. Ask him to promise you that he will not do things that would make you cane him or disobey instructions in future (make sure he promise you; children take such promises seriously than we will ever know or realize!)
7.) Crack some joke and make him smile (dat one no they easy at times o but l usually find a way to do it) just to lighten the atmosphere. Kiss him on the forehead and round up by saying "thats my boy" grin
8.) Give him a distraction "immediately" by engaging his mind (Children's mind wonder a lot and negative thoughts have a way of creeping-in at that moment). Ask him to fetch you a cup or something or just ask him to get a rag/ brush and clean his shoes or yours (Just about anything to distract his mind from the caning experience; of-course, he has learnt the lesson as the place still hurts a wee-bit! wink )

The child feels the pain, learns the lesson but experience the warmth and love of a father, at that point; His confidence in your fatherly ability is renewed an he takes you seriously but in a loving way because you have shown him that loving him was never in doubt.

The Bible says "Fathers, do not exasperate your children"!

Lastpage!

BTW: @Op: If you have children yourself, would you be surprised and call it an irony that the boy still loves his Dad?
The love of a son for his Dad is in the blood, very natural. wink
Dont complicate their life with your human right/Police angle.
What the father needs is someone to explain "balanced parenting" to him.
If he has a phone number (You can ask the boy since you seem close to him), P.M it to me and l will politely speak with him and l can assure you that even you will notice changes in his parenting skills.
Worst case; Copy and print the above on a plane A4 Paper. Stick-it under the door or attach it to his windscreen early morning. He will read it and it might just help him see that he is doing it wrongly. Use of force is counter productive is this kind of problem.
Cheers.

Let me use this moment to appeal to all "GOOD" Muslims and Northerners especially:
*Dont allow these animals to fight on your behalf
*Dont just "deny" them, DENOUNCE AND EXPOSE THEM!.
*Dont shelter them
*Dont give them financial support
*Dont swell their ranks

Finally, PROVE TO ALL NIGERIANS, that you are "the good people" that l know some of you are.
Dont let the stain of the blood of the innocent, be on your hands, on your heads and in your lands.
Let the Muslim leaders (Umars and Ulamars in the mosques) speak to their members about these things
Let the Emirs and other leaders in the North, put a stop to these blood-letting! Speak to your people OPENLY!

As for Southerners, you are not known for wanton destruction of life and property.
You are known for hospitality and friendliness.
You are God fearing and hard-working!

Would you become "so weak" (morally and spiritually) so much so that you will become Evil, just because Boko Haram wants you to be so?
Overcome Evil, not with Evil but with SMARTNESS!
Killing those innocent Northerners/Muslims who have lived with us and become our friends, would not bring back the dead killed by Boko Haram,
IT WILL ONLY SHOW THAT WE ARE NOT BETTER!
BUT WE ARE and we need to show it.

CALM DOWN! EVERYBODY should C-A-L-M D-O-W-N
Before you say ANYTHING, ask yourself: What is my OBJECTIVE? Will my words/action aid my objective?

What is your objective?

*Break-up of Nigeria?
*For the Bombings to come to an end?
*For Peace to reign so that you can prosper in the land?
*For Jonathan's Government to collapse?
*For Power to return to the North?
*For the Military to stage a Coup?

Well, take your pick from the above (or add your own) and then align your words and action accordingly

WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE OF BOKO HARAM?
1.) To cause fear and panic
2.) To cause anarchy and disaffection within the Ethnicity(s) (Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, e.t.c)
3.) To cause so much confusion and fear in the Polity such that the country would be ungovernable for Jonathan.
4.) To cause so much instability such that the Military will be "welcomed" to over-throw Jonathan's democratic govt.
5.) As a last option, to cause Genocide across the nation such that the North will not be ruled by a Southerner but by a Northerner.

Now, look at all your comments and threats above and see if your "comments and proposed action", ACHIEVES the AIMS of BOKO HARAM! shocked shocked

Where am l going?:
I think all those peeps causing Hausa's or Muslims or threatening reprisal killings are just making the Boko Haramites BOLDER and HAPPIER!
That is exactly the reaction they want!
That is how they intend to achieve their goal!

I want us to be smart, to defeat these mindless killers (Boko Haram) by being smarter than them not by turning ourselves into bloody animals like themselves!

For example: Though some (even a lot) of Northerners have sympathy for Boko Haram (their objective of pushing Jonathan out of office by all means aligns), NOT ALL NORTHERNERS support the bombings or killings going-on.

Though Northerners are mostly Muslims, NOT ALL MUSLIMS support the killing of Christians in the North of Nigeria.

Therefore, this is a psychological, mind-game and warfare.
The only way we can defeat Boko Haram is to ensure that they dont achieve their objectives.....
We must ensure that our "Humanity and Goodness" is not exchanged for the evil and wickedness that is the soul of these murderers.

Anyone that Murders an INNOCENT NORTHERNER OR MUSLIM, as a form of reprisal, is no better than the same Boko Haram that you hate!
Or is "killing of innocent people" not what they do and why we detest them?

Think about these for a moment...before you insult me! wink

jaybee: Well, the issue here is not as simple as you are postulating. we are way ahead of what you are struggling to articulate.

we are ruminating on the driver, the motive of this white elephant projects. the president is just been too simplistic and superficial. he is siting these projects in where he perceive as his home. he is a poor politician. the whole of niger delta are singing his praise not minding his unacceptably dismal performance. why only his state and local government and village?

he has shown clearly that he is doing it to please his kinsmen and not to develop the country. that is the crux of the matter. if it were for the development of the country, i'm sure no sensible individual will raise an issue.

most of these projects the president is locating in his village are duplications of existing ones. for example we have a naval research center in Victoria Island http://www.navdock-wilmotpoint.com/. i was there last year and saw their operations. they are achieving http://www.navdock-wilmotpoint.com/achievement.htm quietly. just like other institutions, they are also facing challenges of funding amongst others. why these duplications when the available ones are not optimally catered for?

A naval research institute may be required in Nigeria; but the motive must not be to satisfy the ego of "i did it in my village, local government, state or region". otherwise, its just a waste of scarce resources.
I agree with a lot of what you said above. Duplication and inadequate funding of such research institutes is very unfortunate, to put it diplomatically.
My own "perspective" is that due to the peculiar nature of the N.Delta, (compared to "desert" places in the North or Rocky places like Ekiti shocked , A Naval Research Center looks more plausible in such area like Bayelsa State, as we have in Lagos.

The challenge therefore is to ensure that such research centers are well funded and their "output" further developed and put to good use for the benefit of the country.
As for GEJ and his "blind-man tactics", l use to think that Nigeria has had its "worse President" when we had OBJ!
But when Yar Ardua came in and began "acting Up" l said Yes, we have reached "bottom" and we can only get better!

But when we tasted just 6months of Jonathan, l begin to wonder if we are perpetually cursed with educated but ignorant Presidents!

God, What did we do to deserve these kind of Leaders?
Okay, we apologize if it is our own doing but P-L-E-A-S-E, we need just one more miracle (Abacha was one, UMYA was second! shocked )
