Did you do the whole process in the UK as well? Including biometrics and medicals. Would I need to come back home at any point?
You will do everything there In UK. I hope you still have time left on your BRP? In my case, I had to submit my passport in Nigeria because when my passport request dropped, I had just 2 days left to stay in UK.

If you still have lots of time on your BRP, you will do everything in UK.

Oh, yes. That's very correct. I mistook Biometric for medical. Funny enough, you were the one I was referring to. It's been a while, so, I forgot somethings, even your Monika.

I'm glad to know you are still here.
Boss, I am still here. Good to still have you here as well. You are doing a great job.

Has anyone here ever applied for study permit from a third country? I'm Nigerian obviously, I school in the UK and would be graduating soon. I got admitted to SAIT Calgary & would be applying for study permit from the UK. Anyone done this before?
I applied last year in London, UK and I got my visa. It is faster and better applying from London. Make sure you have all your documents complete.

All the best.

A guy had a case similar to yours in part 14 or 15: go ahead with the application, the good thing is that you don't need Biometric from the UK, so, you can definitely apply from a foreign land but your passport submission will be in Nigeria, therefore, you will eventually touch your home country soil.
He needs biometrics. He can submit his passport in any country in the world provided the VFS In that country offer such services. He can submit in UK, USA, Nigeria and other countries.
The only thing he will not do is Medicals.

Please, someone, help me out in throwing more light to these gray areas.
(1) It is almost impossible to get admission as an international student (at least for Nigerians) into Fanshawe without using an agent. Any money you pay your agent will be returned when you get your visa. P.s The agents are only for admission.

(2) If you see any PGD with co-op in your preferred program, please take it with both hands and legs (you will thank me later). If there is no PGD with co-op, go for PGC. You can always renew your study permit in Canada.

The other degree you mentioned, that is not even an option.

Thank you Chief. Please do you mind I discuss with you inbox? I need more clarification on the duration. The admission letter read program ends in April 2021. And why would the second program not state in January 2021? Thank you for offering to help in advance. @Naijaforeigner
Hello chief, I will try to log into my Nairaland mail this weekend and respond. Logging inti my Nairaland mail gives me headache.

PGC is usually 8 months. If you are doing 2 PGC's back to back starting this fall, it will be September 2019 - April 2020 and then May 2020 - December 2020 or

Some students do September 2019 - April 2020, take 4 months break to work full time and make some money and then start the second program September 2020 - January 2021.

So for your program starting January 2020, it will be Jan 2020 - August 2020 and September 2020 - April 2021.

Hello gurus in the house!!! I hail u all for the good work

@naijaforeigner: I already sent you a mail but u can answer here too

Other gurus, u can help also please.
Let me apologise for not responding to your mail. It is easier to reach me here than via Nairaland mail. I wish Nairaland allows people to drop their official mail or phone numbers.

(1) I think London south campus is the new campus Fanshawe is about to open this fall. Is it the one on wellington road? If that is the campus, it is about 30 minutes by bus from the main campus. It is a new campus so cant say much about the study environment but trust me, Fanshawe college is a super big school with a huge population.

Jobs; London is not that big, you will get jobs (once you are not choosy), might take time but you will. Until you get what is desirable, make do with any available job you find.
Accommodation; budget between 450 - 550 (all inclusive). However, if you love the good life, you should look for apartments (one room apartment goes for about 700-800)
Feeding; You should be fine with about 150 monthly (as a guy, sometimes I dey rough am with 100 grin).
Transport: Your Fanshawe ID card will take you anywhere you want to go in London for free. If you are a quiet person, then you will love it in London.

(2) It wont be a problem.

(3) As expected, some courses will give you jobs faster than other courses but that course is good as well. If this course will lead to you getting your PR, make sure you get a very good result so you can easily get a job once you are done with college. Once you get your PR, you can follow through with your passion of accounting.

Let me add, once you get your visa, you can change course within a week of enrollment or even before enrollment if there is still space available in your desired program.

I cannot stress this enough, if you plan on staying back in Canada after studies, your first strategy should be how to get your PR via education. Please feel free to ask other questions.

Good evening people. Please I'm new here. I got admission into Fanshawe College, London ON for combined programs...2 PGCs in Supply Chain Management and Operations Management. The admission letter states that start of program is Jan 2020 and End of program is April 2021. I would like to know:
1) Number of years my Student visa is going to be.

2) In case there people who have taken the course before or who are taking it now, how many PGWP will one get after completing the two PGCs.

Kindly help me.
I can see you sent me a PM, so sorry at the moment I am not responding to Nairaland mails. If you mention me here, I will respond immediatley.

(1) Your visa and study permit will be for the duration of your program plus some extra months.

(2) So your program will run from January2020 - August 31, 2020 while the second one will run from September 2021 - April 2022. Each program runs for 8 months.
You will get 3 years PGWP.

I am presently studying PGC supply chain management in Fanshawe College, I finish in August. You will need textbooks, lots of it (You cant find most of them in the school library). When you get your visa, mention me here and I will give you the materials for free. All the best.

POE; your correspondence letter, letter of admission and SOA
Immigration officer may ask where would you stay? name of school, course and length of program.

Personally, I think I had about 3500 Canadian dollars cash on me on arriving Canada.
You don't need to have so much cash on you though.

Lol I am just seeing this. I was shocked when the lady said MUN is expensive. She should come to colleges or Universities in Ontario and know wassup.

TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 15 by Naijaforeigner: 3:54pm On May 28, 2019
Freeworld321 I sight you boss.

Xtianengr you can get admission from Nigeria or in Canada. Once you have your visa, even if a program says closed on any of the websites, call the college and tell them you have your visa. Most programs that indicate closed, they factor in time to process visa for international students. So even if a school tells you admission is closed, call and let them know you have your visa but only thinking of changing school. I know colleges admit people even when admission says closed provided they still have seats on that program. Colleges do this a lot but not sure about Universities.

However, I strongly recommend you are in Canada before you notify CIC because at the POE, if you show them a new LOA, they may ask why you changed school most especially if it is cheaper than the initial school for which you were given your visa. They will drill you

You can get admission for another school from Nigeria, get into Canada before notifying your former school and CIC you want to change school.

Ayomiposi2020 Kcosam and Xtianengr I think Newfoundland university collects 2k per semester (6K in a year). It also depends if they have your program.

Please find out if the school/college you has flexible payment plans. This will help.

Newbrunswick community college is another cheap school - I think it is less than 6k CAD for some programs, please find out.

Brandon University is another cheap school.

I know Sleekysoft attend Newfoundland university.

Hi Guys, happy Sunday. I really need help o.

A friend got his student visa for Canada and he has paid his acceptance fee in the university but he doesn't intend to go to the school yet because he can't afford it. So, he wants to get in and defer so he hasn't paid any part of the tuition. What do you think he should do? Will the border officials let him get in without paying tuition? Even though he has paid his acceptance.
If your friend does not have money, let him defer his current offer while he tries to get admission for January into college/University. He should make sure it is a college/university where the fees are cheap (not more than 5000 CAD). I strongly recommend he goes for a program that has a co-op (most likely college). He should make sure it is a program that has at least 8 months co-op.

Once he gets admission into college, he should try and get money to pay for his 1st semester fees from Nigeria, his 8 months co-op will most likely sort out the rest if he is disciplined.

Please forget the idea of trying to defer and then work while in Canada for 6 months before school starts, It will most likely mess him up when he wants to apply for his PGWP.

Also, if your friend has a job in Nigeria at the moment where he can still get some money from now till January, no need to rush to travel to Canada. Except you have family members that are willing to accommodate you for free (food inclusive) in Canada, it is easier to save money in Nigeria than it is in Canada provided he already has a regular source of income in Nigeria. Save up money, save up money before you travel, you will need it.

This is for other students who don't have enough money

If you don't have money, no scholarship and you want to study in Canada, please be strategic.

(1) Make sure you apply to colleges or Universities with very low tuition.

(2) Make sure it is a 2 years program so you don't have to renew study permit while in Canada.

(3) If you choose 1 year PGC, you will need to renew study permit again and show money in account. If you know you struggled getting money in your account or sponsors, why will you want to go for a 1 year program?

(4) Make sure you choose co-op programs - you get to work full time for up to 8 months during course of study.

(5) you can always change schools even after your visa has been approved. If you need to switch to co-op program or cheaper schools, do it now. It is legal and allowed.

P.s For all those with Visa's or planning to come to Canada, please learn how to cut hair and ladies, if you can learn how to make hair before coming, you will make cool cash.

I cut my hair for 25CAD without shaving and 35CAD if I shave, do the maths (London, ON hair cut price).
I know a lady that charges 80 CAD and above to make ladies hair as a side hustle (she has her regular job). She attends to only 3 customers weekly because of her regular job. If you are a student, this will help you big time most especially when on break.

While waiting 6 months in Nigeria for visa, what are you doing with your time?

Oh! This is so interesting. Please boss, is there restrictions to course, school and regions about this ? I'm so naive about this please.
Good morning boss, answer to your questions can easily be found on school website.
Search for the school you are interested in, program of choice and you will know if there is a co-op option for that program.

I see you using word 'co-op' options. Please, what does it means in the context here.
Just simply means you have the opportunity to apply what you are taught in class during paid work. You work full time for a specific period, get work experience in your field while studying and you get paid. Depending on the program, it could be 4 months, 8 months, 12 months...

Difficult to say because normally, the CIC account is supposed to provide real time update. If we are to follow that, then it means your passport just got stamped with your visa today and would soon be sent to the VFS office but don't be surprised maybe they stamped your passport since Monday and the system just updated it today grin

what do you think of supply chain management Lambton college sarnia
Most colleges/schools in Ontario are very good and the program as well but please check for information about Sarnia (the city). I have come across some people say Sarnia is boring and so forth but please make your own findings.

I am based in London, ON and population in London is almost 5 times that of Sarnia. personally, I think London is boring. I can say for sure I will struggle to live in Sarnia. If you are an introvert, you are good to go in Sarnia. Job opportunities? I can't say much.

Just look out for what matters most to you and then you can choose your college accordingly. Check the school website as well.

Once you are ready to go for Co-op (usually after 4 or 8 months of studies in most colleges) you can do it anywhere in Ontario, so that is not an issue.

P.S I am very key on where I live (city) so I take out time to check these things but if you just want to study, then school and choice of program should be what you focus on.

I intend applying mail my aim was a masters degree but seeing that's not forth coming I am going for a post graduate certificate but I want a course that will be lucrative over there not just w waste of money
The information business analysis is a good course but its a one year program and I am also considering work permit
Information Business analysis or Business analysis is a good program, also check for logistics and supply chain management. These courses come as 1 year (PGC) or 2 years PGD (some even include opportunity to work full time and get paid really well). I know Fanshawe college has both programs for PGC and PGD. I think Seneca and Connestoga as well. Downside of any college in Ontario is that they are expensive.

I strongly recommend 2 years Business logistics and supply chain management (with a Co-op option).
(1) The program has lots of job opportunities, at least I know of Ontario for sure.
(2) You get paid for related work experience up to 8 months.
(3) You work full time (UP TO 40 hours a week) during the paid work and you get paid well.
(4) Minimum wage in Ontario is about 14CAD but Co-op students can get paid between 20CAD - 25CAD.

Above all, having 8 months Canadian experience on your CV alongside Canadian education is superb. When you arrive Canada, you will realise that getting Canadian work experience and a college degree could be more important than getting Masters degree for some jobs.
