Let Me use this opportunity to challenge every nairalander most especially those ones already in Canada studying to please try and help people coming to their provinces or cities. Please come in here and see if there is anyone who just got visa and is coming to your city or school. Please let’s help each other, it is not easy for people just arriving. They will save so much money if we point them in the right direction. Dont just get visa, arrive Canada and go off from this thread. Some of the mistakes we made when we first arrived as students, we can help others coming to Canada avoid it. It will save them lot of cash. For example, lonelydude planned to stay in hotel for 3 days for about 250 dollars inorder to help him get accommodation. I contacted him and suggested he looks up accomdation on Kijiji and off campus accomdation of his school while in Nigeria, look out for apartments that were within his budget, get the phone numbers of the landlord/agent and forward them to me. I will call the landlords and help him fix viewing of those apartments for the day he would be arriving (01/01/19) in london so he can view all the rooms the same day he would arrive and then make a choice. That way, he will end up staying in hotel for just 1 night and move straight the next day to his new apartment. To the glory of God he got his apartment same day he arrived London, ON. He viewed I think 4 apartments and made his choice. I got to know lonelydude on this same Nairaland Just some days ago. We are students and we should help each other in any way to save cost and help each other adapt easily. Today 02/01/19, we will go and open a bank account, get a SIM, show him shops he can get stuff and thereafter, he will be on his own With a sim, data and bank card, he will be able to navigate around town easily. This makes life easy and saves lot of cash. There are some things I have got to realize on getting here but when I have made my full research (confirmed and reconfirmed), I will come and share them here openly. God bless Nairalanders. Apologies to anyone who sent me SOP and I could not help out, I have been extremely busy. Special shout out to Thecongo2 once again for leaving his family on new years day and spending almost 4 hours of his time driving us around London. There is no way your children will not find Favour anywhere they go in Jesus name (amen). |

SugaRush: Happy New Year Everyone.
Can anyone please confirm if you need to pay your entire school fees before applying for study permit? Can someone just pay acceptance fee or not pay anything at all before applying for study visa? A Nairalander we picked up at the airport yesterday (01/01/19) with moniker called lonelydude is coming in for his masters in western university london (top 10 school in Canada) and he paid nothing yet his visa was granted and we have also seen several of such cases. Infact, his masters is a 1 year program and he got his visa. However, let me state clearly that if your sponsor is not your family member and you don’t have any substantial amount of money in your own personal account, I will personally recommend the third party to make some commitment by paying part of your fees or send some of the money to your account (this is my opinion). All the best. |

ICaSNg: Let me share this. Not to discourage anyone, but I do emphasize that is difficult changing status in Canada or Australia form Graduate student to PR.
Everyone keeps hearing news it's greener on the other side, but alas its not. Am just trying to advise people to weigh their options well before jumping ship. The best way to migrate to Canada / Australia with certainty and ROI is through the permanent residence.
Ireland may not seem like the best but, there are lots of jobs opportunities.
As seen on International Education News Website: ================================ Removing the Barriers for International Students to Work and Settle in Canada =================================================
While international students arrive in Canada in record numbers, when compared to the US and the UK, they are experiencing barriers when it comes to employment and permanent resident status following graduation. It seems Canadian employers prefer to hire those with local work experience and with permanent residence or citizenship status and are reluctant to take on the administrative load of temporary residents. Added to which, there is a lack of settlement services to guide the students through Canadian immigration policies. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) found there were a record 399,000 private sector vacancies at the end of 2017 – an increase of 3 per cent over 2016.
Source: Study International lol this is so wrong. When was this article written? Who told you it is difficult to change status from graduate student to PR in Canada? I laugh again. I respect the job you are doing on this thread but please be careful of information you post on a public forum. I know many people in the church I just joined (RCCG Ontario grace assembly) who all became PR via student permit (more than 15). I have more than 5 friends I already knew outside the church before coming to Canada who all became PR via masters degree in Canada. I don’t know anyone who got student permit in Canada for at least 14 months program that did not get work permit and then PR afterwards except that person committed a crime they don’t want to tell you about or they willingly left. The major problem of Canada is the visa process takes time and very difficult but once you step into the land and obey the rules, forget it, you will get your PR. I made lot of research from students in these countries about Ireland, USA and Canada before jumping ship. Also let me add, the weather in Canada is also a barrier but we are Nigerians and we are survivors. Which other barrier? Oh and in the western world (Ireland, USA, UK, Canada) they work hard. My roomie (a female from India) just got 3 years work permit and just started job last month. She did 8 months program (insurance) and another 8 months program (business) and then she got 3 years work permit. She will work for a year and then apply for PR. I still don’t know how many countries in the world that gives you the opportunity of getting 3 years guaranteed work permit for masters degree of about 14-16 months or 2 x 8 months college degree certificate. How will you not see job in 3 years? Ki aiye ma mu wa Ireland is very good (I have friends there) but don’t try and put down Canada just because you are biased towards Ireland. Everybody knows Ireland economy just started picking up about 2 or 3 years ago. Yes there are job opportunities in Ireland but are you trying to say they have more jobs than Canada? Please don’t even get me started. Ireland’s economy is gradually coming up and doing well. Let’s not overhype it. The author of that article knows nothing about current immigration challenges (or probably it is an old article). This was confirmed when he/she mentioned UK. The same UK so many students are running away from because it is so difficult to get a job after your MSC except you attended a top school (preferably 1-15 top rated schools) and must be a highly sought after degree and have a very good result before you can get a company to sponsor you for some years before you can get ILR. The same UK that students start panicking once they are about to finish their masters degree because they get only extra 4 months on their visa (some schools 6 months). I will even advise someone going for masters to consider Ireland before UK if they don’t plan on coming to Nigeria after studies. P.S I schooled in UK for UG before recently moving to Canada so I know what I am talking about. |

Admitwithschola: You were against absolutes and I agreed with you..But you have made an absolute here..I'm referring to the "you have no business...."
It is actually possible to get partial (not full) tuition waiver and work your way here while you study...I say this because the friend I referred to in my earlier message did this, and a family member did it too..But three bad things fit happen..1) Grades will suffer, 2) The person can overwork and thus destroy their social security records and 3) The person can be frustrated out of schooling..
But in terms of possibility, it's possible. I know so. However, in general, your point holds a lot of water...E go harrrrrrd. The partial funding needs to be close to 100% to increase the possibility of pulling it off.
It is much easier, as you said, if people came to the US fully funded, i.e if dem get tuition waiver plus monthly stipend. Many Nigerians get such opportunity - a lot. Abi me I get am for 2009/2010..Lol. The guy you quoted does not even know wassup. He said “you have no business been in USA if you don’t have tuition and your stipends sorted” You can tell he is the son of one of these rich politicians who have had it easy in life, reason why I stopped responding to him. He is only reporting based on hear say and therefore thinks it is an easy process. |

myk2mic: This is the truth and nothing but the truth,am currently here , and with wat I have seen and my ears have heard ,man it's simply not worth it.
Like the op said ,u have to marry a citizen to get a green card and hope that the person you married understands that it's simply a business arrangement, but if the person develops feelings for you, men you are screwed. But as always there is a way,
Some states in the USA have faster processing time for work permit/green card than others and there is a big market here for arranged marriage, even churches/pastors are involved, meet the right pple and the will point you in the right direction.
So it's no all gloom
The ones I pity the most are married folks here with family, I have a friend here who moved with her entire family, she is currently pregnant and her husband has married a citizen and rented another apt where he and his new wife stay while his pregnant niaja wife stays in another apt with the kids.
This shit is truly messed up. My advice, hustle to go the countries that allow for skilled workers , Just imagine what people are going through for the papers? It is well o. I always advise, if you are travelling as a hustler, it is better if you are not yet married because you never can tell what you will do when you get to “the abroad”. |

Olddirtywizard: Well, I am not responsible for your inability to comprehend my post. Don't give an opinion on issues you don't understand.
I have just one question for you. Were you at anytime a graduate student in US? I asked because what I explained here is so common and widespread that's not even worth arguing over.
1. A student on F1 visa can bring his wife/partner and dependents to US legitimately. 2.Wife or dependents will have to come on F2 Visa but can't work on F2. 3. However, dependents less than 18 on F2 can attend school up to high school free of charge in US 4. Wife can't work but can volunteer 5.If the principal visa holder has a guaranteed funding of say $2000 monthly for five years as a PhD student, then he can take care of his wife and kids. House rent gulps a substantial part of that money but can live modestly on the rest.
Can you please point out any part of this that's illegal or not doable? I had to modify my post because I can see you already suggested getting monthly stipend and tuition waiver is common. No point going further on this issue with you. All the best. |
Romance › Re: If Your Boyfriend Moves To USA Without Green Card, Just Move On by Naijaforeigner: 2:00am On Dec 20, 2018 |
Olddirtywizard: Well, you are wrong. Let me give you one example.
2buffagain is a student on F1 visa but to bring his wife to US, he needs to show a balance of $6000 in his bank account to secure Form I 20 for partner's F2 visa interview. 2buffagain is obviously on a struggle level as a student but could rally round friends and pull resources together to meet the target. Personally, I know more than 50 people who did it and it's not illegal. It's perfectly legitimate; just networking to survive. This is how foreign students studying in US bring their partners. If you have a child, that includes additional $2000.
Now, a graduate student on a monthly $2000 stipend can live perfectly okay with his partner. And your child(ren) can attend school free of charge up to secondary school level. There is difference between hustling to make it and then saying it's altogether impossible. The only expensive part is buying ticket which folks put on credit card and keep transferring from one card to another to avoid accumulating huge interests until it's paid off. So what do you say? |

Thank you You do not need travel history to apply for study permit of any country in the world. People who have not had any travel history have applied once to Canada and got it and those who have plenty travel histories still get denied. Travel history might help but it is not a requirement by CIC. The major thing is to convince them that you will abide by their rules and come back to your country after studies in your LOE. |

(2) Are you a Christian? Look for any church around you, get the contact of the pastor of any of the churches and explain your situation. Trust me, you will get free accommodation for at least a week. If you are lucky, you will get for even months. P.s I contacted redeeem pastor here in London Ontario via LinkedIn and Facebook messenger and I am currently staying in a free accommodation. The host told me to stay for 1 week till I get my own accomodation. Should I add I am also getting free better Naija food? My host have been too kind. Infact, they want to kill me with food. All the help I have gotten within my stay here has been from 2 wonderful nairalanders and the church. I will be moving to my own apartment Tuesday 18th and it is a Nairalander that will be helping me move my loads to the house. Infact 90% of my movement has been free and it has been a nairalander that has been taking me shopping and seeing the city. (3) Also try Airbnb. You will get very cheap options there as well. (4) Also, don’t be in a haste to just take any house you see because you will be signing a lease (which means you will not be able to move out of the house for the duration of the lease signed or you forfeit your money) Reason why it is better to contact the church to give you free accomodation for at least a week to allow you check so many houses available on Kijiji and then make a choice. All the best. |

Thank you No one can guarantee visa approval. It is not sure for anyone even if the person has all documents complete. The major things to know before applying are; (1) Make sure there is career progression if applying for PG (2) Make sure the program you are applying for is similar to the one you did in UG or a program you have working xperince in. (3) If you have a 2:1, it is always advisable to go for masters. (4) Write a very good LOE on why you have chosen the course, why you want to go and study the course in Canada, its benefit to you and your country or family. Then give strong reasons why you will come back to Nigeria after studying. For everything you say in the LOE, make sure you show proofs. I think the most important document is your LOE (my opinion) and statement of account(5) It is always preferable to use immediate or extended family as sponsor. If sponsor is not family member, try and persuade him/her to make part payment of fees to show commitment. (5) submit other documents (6) Pray |
