From what I see these days, Nigerians are giving their parents property, not the other way round.

Pussywar:
But it isn't always about finance. I could leave something to be remembered for, or something that is special to them, like a house. Even so, I'm saying I'm leaving no properties for my kids.
1. I don't use sentiment where common sense works just as well. So I wont view an issue from a sentimental angle if doing so would expose me to scammers and vultures who consider me their lawful prey due to a sentimental nature.

2. The topic has nothing to do with me, I simply gave my opinion. I'm not saying I'm right, you do what works for you, likewise everybody else.

3. In this day and age, leave for your kids treasures that wont make them vulnerable targets for unscrupulous people, or people who have a grudge against them for whatever reason, especially if you know you give them the leeway and they (your kids) might not be prepared for the unleashing of such bitterness they might have been unaware of.

4. If you want your kids to have your property, then make sure you do everything required by law to make them your heirs and do not leave any loopholes others can exploit.

5. As I've mentioned before, Nigerians by nature are anarchists and they also believe the property of other people belongs to them. If you carelessly do not do all the necessary things required to protect your investments, then it's assumed it doesn't matter to you who gets them. In which case, they're considered free for all.

6. If you're one of those "jolly good fellow" types to whom the happiness of other people is more important than your well being (we've all been there), then in my opinion, dont be talking about property, just enjoy your own self and leave tomorrow to sort itself out. undecided

My thoughts.

PrimadonnaO:
A lot of couples don’t have that spirit of oneness and unity when they get married. They still see themselves as separate individuals.
For the Nigerian millenial generation which is typified by nairaland views and opinions, society has to recognize their attitude to marriage is different.

Pussywar:
If they don't leave their properties to their kids, what happens to it when they(the women) pass on at over 100 years of age?
How old would the kids be when that happens?

If they are grown, they shouldn't need the property unless they're not financially ok.

Most property and wealth owned by Nigerians rarely gets direct generational transfer, something or the other always comes up that makes the property too hot to handle. Most, not all.

Lol cheesy

Men own your properties in your name.
Women own your properties in your name.

As fair & gender-equal as this concept seems, guess which 'oppressed' gender is still going to be against it.

Ikenna and Akin just woke up to look for trouble. grin
Stay off the thread.

Nairalanders' understanding of marriage is just not normal.

Women who are rich enough to own property should of course make sure their kids are cared for, but that doesn't have to be in the form of leaving them property although it's the usual way.
Family › Re: Is It Right For A Wife To Keep Properties In Her Name? by nlPoster:
What's the point of all these pointless arguments on nairaland especially all these husband wife etc etc community marriage back and forths? There's one currently ongoing where someone who regularly posts what can be considered pornographic photos, is arguing the man knows better when it comes to advice. If it were a woman or a wife posting photos of men's private parts at random intervals, would he say the same thing about her reasoning process?

In my opinion, any wealth or property acquired by Nigerians should be donated to the state or a religious organization after the owner has had their fill of it.

There is no point inheriting unnecessary trouble in the name of property, even while the owner is actively owning the property na wahala every time, what Nigerians should try to do is encourage the government to provide for it's citizens so they don't need to fight over property and material things.

No offence to the people debating, it's just that Nigerians do not listen to beneficial advice, they only want advice that causes friction and scattering.

For the wives, no matter any property involved, do not plan for property that wasn't there when you got married, or which doesn't involve you. As long as you did not contribute over 90% to the purchase, ignore it.

Just my thoughts, I could be wrong.

I'm just not as property oriented as others, not being a typical Nigerian. I think property ownership should be one, not all, of the things that make for a sense of accomplishment and I am annoyed when people (Nigerians) start acting up as usual over it. It's good to be fulfilled (the Nigerian dream is to own property) but not at the expense of your well being and the well being of others around you.

Also why I cautioned someone the other day who went bananas over a random topic about walking away during stress, he interpreted that to mean destroy everything in sight rather than let a woman have it. What the heck? huh

Robe and uniform are almost the same thing, just different designs.

It can be voluntary in pentecostal churches ie robe. Meaning the choir has a choice of using robes or not.

The forum is a Nigerian one, we can assume 98% of the people here are black Nigerians, so let's also assume anyone with Caucasian ancestry and clearly visible Caucasian features, is Caucasian.

Nigerians have enough problems already without adding the extra ones you're bringing , thinking is not necessarily our forte.

Most of these loudmouths here know what they're doing.

I doubt it has anything to do with their past experiences of any gender. They are just greedy and wicked, that's all.

Stop shifting blame. You can't do that forever.
