PERFECTION. Anyway I am biased because I simply love Funmi Iyanda. I can't believe anyone will say she is not stunning here. How many 20 year olds can brag of a body like that. She is about 10 years older than me and I will not be bold enough to stand next to her in a bathing suit. Go on with your bad self Sis Funmi. Muaaaaaaaaaaaaah

How is that a smart thing to say publicly. Their business is very flaky. That foreign collaboration is probably what will help them when no one cares about their music anymore. Bridle you tongue

FamilyRe: A Family Member Informing Your Spouse Before Visiting by Outstrip(f): 3:44pm On Sep 03, 2011
Geez. People's responses here just make it seem to me that maybe the husband was just being childish. What is all this he owns the home. He is the head of the home. He bought the couch. He painted the wall. He paid her school fees. It is so silly. Is it poverty that is causing this. The home belongs to the man and the woman. The man did not just walk in and see his father in law there. The father in law was not even staying for a long time. It does not matter if he sent his daughter to Harvard and it does not matter that the husband is the one paying for his father in laws upkeep. Are people really this unenliightened. It is obvious that people do not understand what the head of the house is responsible for. This is silly nonsense. It is so sad that a relationship that barely even had a chance to be built has been tainted by something so silly. Dad will always look at the son in law with a different eye now. Tomorrow she will have to ask the head of the house if he will prefer salt or maggi in his food. So childish
FamilyRe: A Family Member Informing Your Spouse Before Visiting by Outstrip(f): 3:58am On Sep 03, 2011
Honestly I don't think I could ever tell my dad that he should call his son in law first before he comes to our home. Even if it was an issue I would tell my dad that he should please try to involve my husband when he is coming so he does not get left out. What is the power struggle here for. It is ridiculous. Everybody must be king by force. I still meaintain that the husband had issues with the dad before. Maybe the dad was pushy in the past. Who knows. Because it is hard to believe that just 3 weeks after the wedding the husband would be acting so difficult. Typically both sides are still trying to impress their in laws. There are three sides to this story. The husbands side. The wife's side. The father's side.

Plappville the idea that the weak sperm becomes a girl is ridiculous to say the least. Unless he meant to say that male sperm are better swimmers and you misinterpreted that. The X chromosome is actually genetically superior to the Y. Not saying one is better than the other. They both have the very important roles they play. There is no scientific information that I have read that suggests that the weaker sperm become girls LOL

I think your husband was very rude. I will never ask my mother in law to inform me after my husband has already told me that she is coming. Maybe its cultural differences I don't know but this kind of thing will earn u a family meeting where am from. Am sure d Dad feels more comfy asking his daughter than calling his son in law. This was very rude, if she did d same to his mom she would ve been out of the house now, I know this kind of people.
He probably did not think it was a big deal when he asked his daughter. I kind of feel bad for the old man. The worst part is that the man was travelling somewhere else and was just stopping for a short visit. Na wa

I hope your husband doesnt start complaining too if one day you ask the same courtsey from his own mother; after all its only fair that she asks you if it its convenient for her to visit you since you will be the one doing her cooking, making up the guest room and generally looking after her etc

True talk
I definitely see were you are coming from but different people have different backgrounds. Those reasons you gave is why it is my mom that would usually be asked. My dad is not evenn a very social person to begin with. Even his people would go through my mom. I think it was the poster that dropped the ball here. Unless maybe her husband was going to raise the roof if the old man did not personally ask him which I seriously doubt

What is wrong in him telling his daughter and she telling her husband? Now a relationship with in laws have been potentially ruined. Before you went and asked your dad you should have asked your husband outright if he was suggesting that you ask your dad to call him instead. I doubt that he would have said yes. It seems to me that both men might have had issues before now with each other. It could also be an issue of different backgrounds. My mother was the one that always knew who was coming. My dad just came home and met whomever he met. Whether from his side or her side. Really did not matter. If you even caled my dad to say anything he would most likely say call my wife

^^^^^ I totally agree, those kids would lose money the money faster than they can sell their goods.
Its so easy for someone to get confused while hawking. sometimes when i get home and we want to do the accounting, i just find out that i cant balance my accounts, i have lost some money somehow. i don't know why the girls were always better in getting their figures right, they hardly ever fail to balance up, but for me the case is different. My mom always have a one-kind look when she wants to do mine, and am always clueless as to how it got missing.

One of the most painful scenes i see is when Kids sell in traffic and then they sell pure water that in all does not amount to 100 Naira. Parents should not allow that, the risk are too great, there is the danger of death every second. When i gained admission into the University, before resumption, a friend introduced me to selling of daily newspapers. I had a stand in U-turn bus-stop along Lagos-Abeokuta expressway and occasionally i have to run after cars to give them their papers, but to sell in the midst of traffic is something i would never try.
I salute those guys that do it, but its damn too risky, then for me to see kids doing it, no its just too much to handle.
That is just beyond crazy to me. I even cry when I see adults run after buses to get their money and those wicked bus drivers don't slow down. Imagine children. How they even survive it is unbelievable. How can someone put their beloved child in such a situation. You don't need enlightenment to know that that is not right. All you need in a consciense and common sense

This is sad but all is not lost. I think you need to have a frank conversation with your wife. You might need to change your mind set a little bit. From what yu say it seems she is angry about something. You cannot be happily married and not be worried about your spouse being out so late at night especially in Nigeria. She might have her own issues that she is carrying around. You guys need to talk it out. There were two things that stuck out to me in your posts. That you married "your mate" and that she is "religious". As insignificant as that sounds I feel it is a big issue to you. Either come to terms with it and some of the things you see as problems are no longer problems or you talk about it - everything with her

I totally agree that these kids are way too small to be trading for their parents. But trading by Kids is not something bad in itself, it has been so for centuries in Africa, but the increasingly depraved world in which we live has made it more challenging for anyone including adults to engage in street trading.

We were seven in my Family and my dad lost his Job when we were still quite small, i started selling stuff for my mom when i was 8 and i don't go alone, i used to accompany my older sisters. My mom taught me how to read before i was 8 by the time i became 10, i was reading both English and Yoruba even though i am not a yoruba, i am the de-facto class reader for both languages. When i was 11 i was representing my primary school in the LGA competitions, so were my sisters and we were still hawking on the streets. I finished with the best result from my secondary school in the mid 90s and the same was true of my sisters.

I remember i bought my first wrist watch with the money i made from trading when i was just 12, it was not my mum's business, a friend of mine of the same age told me we could sell nylons bags to people that buys stuff at the near-by Agege Oju-irin market to put their wares and we would make twice the money we invested initially. Both of us went without our parents consent, thinking we were in the neighborhood playing, we would have gone to the market and within 10-30mins we have sold all our nylons and be back. i do this on days am not scheduled to hawk.
Even in the University i was selling computer accessories to augment my income from home.

Till today i thank my mom for helping us to pull thru all those difficult years, she never wanted such life for us, but circumstances forced us to, she showed us love and affection and gave us all a good moral upbringing. I can still remember all she did without screaming at us, without being harsh and always with a warm smile for all of us.

Our hawking to make our family survive, which we have done and done well was never child abuse. i pray my kids would never have to face all that or anyone's Kids for that matter, but if circumstances changes and we have to, then it is back to the trenches.
GOd bless your mom rabzy. If you don't mind my asking what did your dad do after he lost his ob. You talk about wha your mom and siblings do but nothing about what yur father did

i Think in Nigeria a woman is only entitled to Maternity leave after being confirmed on a job in most organisation. I got 12 wks maternity with full payment where i work which is in d private sector.

i think 3mths is way too small for a woman to recover from child delivery. take my case for instance, i went on Mat leave 5wks before the baby arrived due to some complications. my baby was barely 7 wks when i had to resume work. thanks to my Mom she was the one that looks after my daughter at that tender age, though i resume work 1hr later than resumption time and close 1hr earlier than close of work for 3mths but it cant be compared.

i wish there cld be a more effective change in law concerning pregnant women and they are not seen as unproductive as labelled in most organisations.
And you are complaining. Hmm. That was a vacation they gave you there

I dont see what the prostitution thing has to do with this but my point is since it is Child abuse maybe you should go out there and sell the moi moi for them. You have to realize that they are only helping themsleves, beside its not as if their work is lethal or etc. Im notin support of this either but what else can these kids do to help their families?
Are you purposely ignoring the dangers a helpless child faces when they wander the streets. Why should the burden of helping the family be placed on kids that are barely passed toddlers. Blame the governement. Blame poverty. No blame has been placed on the parents themselves who chose to have them and are most likely still having more. Lets applaud them for their irresponsibility.

Not to divert your thread but we do have more beautiful dark skinned actresses. Genevieve. Nse. Mercy. There is this chick that has skin like ebony. She played along side Uche Jumbo in Nollywood Hustle. She is really pretty in my opinion. I would not say sexy like Gene or Nse. She is more like beauty queen pretty.

Six weeks is really not unusual in the US. I think you can get a little more if you had a C-section. If you have the sick time then you are expected to use that for your ante natal. You can use vacation time if you run out of sick time. As for them discriminating against you just because you are pregnant you can definitely sue them if you can prove it. In this day and age you would think that employers would be smarter

Many of them see physical abuse as a sign of strenght. I was told of some one who has a gf who disregards him because when she misbehaves, he refuses to beat her. But when he started beating her, she loved him more. In fact that night the love making session would be terrific. Many ladies are masochist but they don't know it.
Hmm. Someone just told me something similar. A friend of his is the mistress of this other man. He treats his wife well but when his girlfriend does not pick up the phone after he calls a few times he drives to her house and gives her a serious beating. The old mumu of a mistress loves men that do that sort of thing. She claims that's how he shows his love. He is married to an oyibo that he does not step out of line with but his African American mistress gets her bum whooped when she does not return his calls quick enough. If she even considers dating anyone else he will probably put a bullet in her head

Would it be better if those kids in the picture have their mothers around while they hawk?
Of course not. When you think of the typical lemonade stand or children selling cookies outside of target on the weekends there is always an adult around. Children who hawk in Nigeria do it on their own. Their parents put the wares on their head and point towards the door. If they were sitting at their mothers side at her market stall or while she fried akara it is a whole different thing. I don't feel that I should break it down. There is not just a difference between the two they are for two totally different thing. One is hawking so that the family including mommy and daddy will eat and the other is doing it to raise enough money to give a charity or fund a school trip.

If you wanna compare will smith and Jackson's talent being used to make money for their parents to some kids carrying stuff on their heads in the sun in Nigeria, while the papa and mama are home making more babies, then, i am so worried that Nigeria has a long way to go.

Let it be on record that while Will smith and the rest are going to Location, it was the Mom or the Dad or at least some old enough to take care of them that would drive them or take them there and not just be left at the mercy of faith . . . .let us always compare apple to apple
