Despirado121:
Former Senator, Shehu Sani, has called for a new census to be conducted in Nigeria to bring an end to estimated figures, Igbere TV reports.

United Nations’ estimates puts Nigeria’s population at over 201 million.

Mr Sani who used to represent Kaduna Central at the National Assembly tweeted on Wednesday that a new census would help update the nation’s figures.

“The last national census was conducted in 2006; its high time we conduct a new census in order to update Our figures so that we can end this “about 170m, about 180m, about 200m” guesstimates,” he said.

A census is indeed desirable.

Yet to be seen however, how a census will hold successfully in the midst of intractable security challenges across the country.

Best the FG focus on resolving the security challenges first before undertaking any census. If the present government makes significant progress in addressing the security challenges, perhaps the next administration can make a census the core of their development policy.

All those soldiers wey fight for civil war no dey wan take ear hear say one person dey threating the unity of the country thru religion or politics. Dem feel say dem don invest too much tears and blood to keep the country one so anybody wey do anyhow go see anyhow.

If they can put a face to the disturbance, they will pick you up and lock you away.

An all-out civilian president like GEJ would probably seek out a civil way to achieve a negotiated peaceful resolution for this impasse. But soldiers like Obasanjo and Buhari who fought in the civil war have very little patience for that kind of settlement.

Now this situation is getting out of hand and the FG needs to urgently adopt a more civil approach to resolving this matter before it degenerates further. No one is saying free Zakzaky outrightly. But let the man have his day in court and follow through on the decision of the court. They can release the man and put him under 24 hours surveillance. There is an urgent need to defuse the ticking time bomb.

May God's true wisdom guide all sides in the conflict.

This is nonsense talk. Courts do not reach decisions based on the "pulse of the nation". They do so by weighing the facts and arguments presented by the contending parties and rule according to the law of the land.

This erroneous position by Mr. Atiku is the reason why his party has flooded the media with all sorts of propaganda in a bid to skew public emotions and manouver the so called "pulse of the nation".

Kolewerk!

We deserve better than Buhari. But Mr. Atiku isn't an option. By the grace of God, he won't be President.

If the story is as stated by FFK then the General is lucky he only got removed and dismissed for disobeying a direct order from his superiors to transfer the suspects to Abuja. He is a general and should know better.

In the military, you obey orders when they are given whether you like them or not. If you choose to disobey a direct order because you don't like it, you will.be charged, tried before a court martial and punished.

Punishments range from loss of command, demotion, dismissal to even jail and in extreme cases, death sentence.

The armed forces isn't a place where you have a personal agenda. Once your agenda doesn't align with the common agenda, jettison it and fall in line.

Thats the appropriate thing to do actually.... But i am expecting him to charge Busola Dakolo for Defamation. I will assume that he is guilty of the allegation leveled against him if he fails to do that.

Busola as well should also report formally to the authority, not the social media gra gra.

This will be a slap to the Christianity, if nothing is done.

But isn't that a bit unfair to put the burden of proof on him to prove his innocence?

I thought the maxim is "innocent until proven guilty" and not "guilty until proven innocent".

Even the law says that he that alleges must prove and places the onus of proof on the accuser.

I agree with you that he probably should go to court as one of the ways to clear his name, but that isnt the only way of clearing his name. In order words, if he chooses other ways of clearing his name, that shouldn't be considered as proof of his guilt.

Dude was obviously never a member of the church. He was only a bench warming attender.

Coming to church every Sunday doesn't make you a member of a church. It is bearing responsibility within the church that confirms you a member. That is why it is called "service".

You aren't a member of your family just by blood or because you answer your father's name. You are a member of that family because you carry some responsibility and contribute within the family.

If your father or any other member of your physical family is accused of rape or stealing or any of those other vices, I wonder how many of you will join the mocking crowd in lynching your father publicly. While you might not condone the act, you definitely will not be amongst the mockers. At worst, you may not defend him, but you will also not openly castigate him.

How then is this actor's action ok? How do you lead a protest against a man you probably called Pastor and revered just last week.

The Festus Adedayo They Thought They Could Pull Down -By Festus Adedayo

I was just informed a few minutes ago of the withdrawal of the appointment offered me as the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Nigerian Senate President, Dr. Ahmed Lawan. I had hitherto enjoyed every of the diatribes provoked by the appointment.

I was told it was the most discussed issue in Nigeria in the last few days. Of course, it was not humanly possible for me to read the over 5000 tweets and thousands of comments on other social media. As at the time of writing this, the issue was said to be the most-discussed in Nigeria on the social media. Said to be the brainchild of some hired Rottweiler dogs loyal to some lords in the APC, a campaign dubbed #sackfestus adedayo was mounted immediately and within hours, had given birth to thousands of recruits. Many of the commentators who took liberty to harangue me have no idea of who I am and went on a railroaded binge to dress me in an alien robe.

Of a truth, I am a venomous critic of President Muhammadu Buhari, with no apologies. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Adams Oshiomhole, Ibikunle Amosu, Bukola Saraki and several others have been on the receiving end of the unkind temper of my pen. But call my attention to five pieces I did in dispraise of Tinubu, I will call yours to the three I did in his praise, at very grave danger to my life and career, even though Tinubu can’t pick me up in a crowd.

Someday when he and I meet, I hope to tell him the consequential bullet I once bit for his sake. Since 1998 when I began column-writing, I have a graveyard of public personalities whom my cudgel has whiplashed for perceived infractions in power. Give me 10 pieces I wrote in uncomplimentary review of President Buhari, I will give you 20 I did in utter vilification of Jonathan, his ministers and those close to him. Jonathan never raised a voice against me. One thing my traducers don’t know is that I have no attachment to those criticisms. I am like a prophet; once I deliver my message, I move on.

What those who are vilifying me for always writing against government should have done was to rise from their laziness and conduct an x-ray of my writing. In my close to 20 years of public sphere intervention, I am a rabid anti-establishment person. I believe that in establishment lies the plague of the Nigerian state and my writings reflect this much. Even though I am everything but a saint, I believe that government should reflect the highest moral echelon of society and those who run it should make covenant of chastity and fidelity with themselves.

More fundamentally is that my pen knows no friend or foe. Very early in my writing career, I learnt that I could go far in the people’s heart if I sided with the public against government. This was abetted by my philosophy degree background which teaches me to always look for disorder, even in order. I am a natural pessimist and see pessimism in optimism. Anyone who does a critical assessment of my journey as a columnist will see this without any equivocation.

I doubt if any government has received greater unfavourable reviews from my pen than the Olusegun Obasanjo government. His ministers were weekly captives of my acidic pen. His Chief Press Secretary, Chief Tunji Oseni, upon once inviting me to the monthly Presidential Media Chat, told me to my face that he regretted inviting a rabid anti-Obasanjo journalist like me to the event. Chief Bola Ige, God bless his soul, was the first recipient of my column’s bile in the government. He wrote Page 9 while I wrote Page 3 of the Sunday Tribune, with his Uncle Bola’s Column, even as Attorney General of the Federation.

A few weeks after the ministers’ inauguration and they were given Wardrobe allowance, I flagellated all of them, including Chief Ige, a known acolyte of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who owned the medium. When Chief Ige reacted to my attack and spoke of me in bad light, I took him up again and almost insinuated that he was senile. Rather than take further umbrage, he apologized to me. This was the Ige who, one day when I went to his house, in the company of other colleagues, once commended my writing.

Very scant people know that the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, is my friend. A few weeks ago, I rudely dragged him to the public square over his decision to cancel the N3000 school fees in the state, so much that those who know my association with him asked if there was a dissonance in our relationship. If you rummage through the archives, you would see lacerations on the body of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, products of my unkind jabs. It began from 1999. If I have written 100 articles referencing Abubakar, we may barely find three that are positive about him. Apart from seeing him on the television, I probably saw him once in my life in the crowd.

Former governors Niyi Adebayo of Ekiti State, Olusegun Osoba, Adebayo Alao-Akala, Rashidi Ladoja received unkind tackles from me. I am very close to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State; the day I felt his decision was against my people of Akure, I wrote against him. Rummage through the archives, you would see how I pounced on Senator Bukola Saraki severally with my pen; you would think we once sparred over possession of same woman. The truth is, my writings are political party and tribe-blind. I detest injustice, politics and run away from politicians as much as I can. One thing you cannot accuse me of being complicit of is the vermin that has eaten into the fabrics of my journalism profession. While I am not a saint, I have never blackmailed anyone in my life and I have very scant veneration for the god of Mammon.

The person who nominated me for this office under contention will bear me witness: I told him point blank when he intimated me of the proposed nomination that I had sworn never to do the job of a publicist again in my life, after my two experiences in government. It is a job that almost asks for your life; where you have no respite of any kind. More importantly, all my life, I have never lobbied for any office. Second is that, I believe that my stints in government have almost killed the deposit of writing talent in me. Judging by my beginning as a writer, today I should be one of Africa’s most-read fiction writers.

Meeting Senate President Ahmed Lawan in Abuja rekindled my hope in Nigeria. Like me, he is tribe-blind. He is also very unassuming and cerebral. He interviewed me and another candidate as if we were in a doctoral defence class and settled for me as his choice. Nigerian politicians have a lot to learn from that gentleman and his politics of blindness to tribe and political party affiliation. He told me he wanted excellence and would pick whoever among us he saw as equating that score.

I have read all manner of lies concocted against me on the social media by politicians, all because they want this job at all cost. I do not have any problem with that. One post said Tinubu gave me a Lexus jeep. Those who are close to me know how mendacious this is as I have never even entered such Luxury in my life. That I was considered for the job is enough happiness for me and that, in my life, I would see a Nigerian like Lawan who has such pan-Nigerian mindset, is a great accomplishment.

I was told the job has been withdrawn. I thank Lawan for the offer. He will be my model of a good Nigerian forever. If those who spearheaded the attack thought it would silence me in my bid for a good country, they have another think coming. I can never be silenced. I will always advocate for a good country; whether it hurts Buhari or anyone.

If I had finally settled for the job, I would be doing it at a great cost. I am right now a student of the Nigerian Law School and the rules forbid my working while a student. I would have had to walk away from a painful studentship I embarked upon last November that will come to an end in about two and half months from now. It is providence in action that I am not going to have the job.

To those who spearheaded it, I have no space in my heart for any acrimony against them. It has further strengthened my belief that we must rid Nigeria of hate and politics of the stomach. One thing that Nigerians who read my column should be rest assured of is that I will never waver on the side of power or any politician in government for a pot of porridge. According to Bob Goldstein, “a principle isn’t a principle until it costs you something.” I am happy that this is what my quest for a good society, through my writing, has cost me. This is my creed.

https://thenigerialawyer.com/the-festus-adedayo-they-thought-they-could-pull-down-by-festus-adedayo/

Well crafted and constructed drivel if you ask me.

Adedayo should learn from Adeniyi, Abati, Adeshina and the likes that it is a taboo to defecate in a pool and turn around to drink from that same pool

It was wrong for the Senate President to even consider you for a role in a government you treat with such disdain. It is even wronger for you to have considered accepting the role. There are a lot of non-partisan, competent hands that can be brought in to do the same job.

Pick a side and stay true to your ideals and creed...if you have any. angry

From: collinsuchendusblog.com

Governor Emeka Ihedioha has reversed the status of the newly converted Imo State University of Agriculture and Technology, Umuagwo, to its earlier polytechnic status.

The immediate past governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, at the end of his administration elevated the polytechnic to a university status and appointed a Vice Chancellor.

Okorocha moved the polytechnic to Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state. However, in a statement issued in Owerri, the state capital by the Secretary to the state government, Uche Onyeagucha said that the governor has reversed the institution to its original status.

The governor, according to the statement has appointed an acting rector, following the retirement of Wance Madu.

The statement reads “the visitor to Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo and the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha CON, has directed the immediate reopening of Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo for normal academic activities.

“Resultant upon the expiration of the tenure of the Rector who has since proceeded on terminal leave, the most senior academic staff in the Polytechnic Dr. Paddy N. Njoku is hereby appointed the Acting Rector of the Polytechnic effective from today June 10, 2019.

The Polytechnic community and all Stakeholders thereof are advised to cooperate and accord him all necessary support.”

We are being scammed everyday in this country, and that's why we will keep moving in circles without making any progress.
These foreign business partners knows the character of Nigeria systems, so they collaborate with insiders and deal with us as they like, to their advantage and the Nigeria partners selfishness.
Even if the Ghana rail construction is not the same as Nigeria's, it has always been so for project executions in Nigeria compared to other nations

Before we conclude we have been scammed and so as not to end up comparing apples to oranges, it is important to get the full technical details of both projects.

What is the nature of both terrains? Are there rivers on the route that would need the construction of bridges? Are there hills or mountains to be tunneled through? How many train stations need to be built on the route? How available or cheap are construction materials? What about the cost of manpower? Also, what are the exchange rates of the local currency to the USD? There are these, and perhaps so many other factors to consider before we home in on corruption as the reason for the disparity in cost.

For example, the cost of building a 3 bedroom bungalow on a swampy and unstable terrain might cost as much or even more than the cost of building a duplex on a dry and stable terrain. Let us not always be so quick to ascribe corruption where there might actually be none.

Ihedioha has started walking down the same road that Ambode walked that led to his downfall.

Yes, the monuments are a waste of public funds by an administration that couldn't get its priorities right. But now that they have been built, it is equally a waste of funds to destroy them. Also for an administration to make that its first executive action shows the same lack of priority as the previous government.

I hope Ihedioha realizes the ton of work he has ahead of him and stops faffing around to avoid stories that touch.

btw, did he force himself on the girl??

Everything that a pilot does on a plane is recorded and can be tracked. What that means is that investigators can easily get information from the plane's onboard computer. Besides, if he was flying a plane and still had time to have sex with someone, methinks it is only commonsensical to conclude he must have put the plane on auto-pilot to do that.

By the way, the said girl he slept with was 15 years old...at that age, the law recognises her as a minor. That means that the law doesn't recognise her ability to give consent or engage in consensual sex. If you sleep with a 15-year-old in saner climes, YOU WILL GO TO JAIL. It doesn't matter if she wrote her consent on a piece of paper and signed it.

As for getting caught in the act of corruption, it should have cost him his position regardless of his record of performance. That is how it is in more developed climes. The woman is not a professional marriage counselor. She has been married for 29 years and managed to make it work, so she gave advice based on her own experience. She wasnt forcing her opinion on anyone. Yet this boy feels the need to run his mouth about a woman probaly old enough to be his mother.

I know that courting controversy on social media is one of the recent ways to gain relevance. But there really should be red lines.

Press Statement 15/3/19

Buratai, Military After My Life, Alleges Timi Frank

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has accused the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai and the military high command of plot to kill him.

Frank in a statement in Abuja in reaction to an online message designed by the military in which they accused him of being a “Protagonist of Fake News” said the real plot by Buratai and the military is to eliminate him.
It is sad to note that the Army under Buratai has degenerated to this abysmal level of partnership. The Army and Buratai have just shown to be the peddlers of fake news themselves by putting out my name in such a manner . This I must say portends a great danger to the country.

He stated that the military is not comfortable with him for constantly revealing clandestine midnight meetings between Buratai, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and President Muhammadu Buhari, where they plotted to rig the 2019 elections in favour of the APC which they have now done.

Frank said: “Buratai is after my life for speaking truth to power. I want Nigerians and the international community to hold Buratai and the military responsible should any harm befall me in the years ahead as the army chief has vowed to bring me down wherever he finds me. But God shall thwart the counsel of the ungodly.

“I insist that Buratai and the Chairman of INEC have been holding nocturnal meetings with President Buhari on how to achieve unearned victory for the APC during the elections which they have now done.

“Let Buratai tell Nigerians if he ever had any midnight meeting with the President and the INEC chair in the run up to the last two successive elections instead of blackmailing and calling me names.

“But despite all of this intimidation, harassment, blackmail and name calling against my person, I remain undeterred. I will continue to expose their crimes against Nigerians and the nation’s democratic process by using its men to subvert the express will and choice of who governs them in favour of highly placed individuals in the governing APC.”

He noted that European Union (EU) Election Observation Mission, the International Republican Institute (IRI), the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and other foreign and local election monitors, have reported how the elections were hugely marred by military personnel and this is public knowledge.

He said: “Besides, countless video, audio and photo evidence exist online detailing some of the heinous atrocities of the military during the elections, yet Buratai and the military want Nigerians to believe that I am a “Protagonist of Fake News” for revealing before hand their plans to hijack the nation’s political and electoral processes in favour of APC.

“Rather than seeking to kill, silence or liquidate me for putting before Nigerians and the world information that they have not been able to controvert, let Buratai and the military apologize to Nigerians for deceiving them via fake news and propaganda that Boko Haram had been defeated, degraded and Sambisa forest liberated.

“Even little children across Nigeria know that despite the spurious claims by the military, Boko Haram has continued to wax strong and sinister - killing, maiming, displacing and kidnapping scores of innocent Nigerians on a regular basis.

“Apart, from the Northeast states of Borno and Yobe still under incessant attacks from the insurgents, they have extended their theatre of operations to include otherwise peaceful states in the Northwest like Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto and Kaduna.

“Buratai and the military should apologize to Nigerians for being the greatest harbinger of fake news and propaganda in the country by spreading wholesale lies
that Boko Haram had been defeated, including the presentation of a fake Boko Haram flag to President Buhari with claims that Sambisa Forest has been liberated.

He called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to hold to account Buratai and all military personnel found to have engaged in the mindless killing and maiming of innocent Nigerians in a bid to rig the just concluded elections in favour of President Buhari and the the APC.

He also called on the EU and the United States to expedite their promise to place visa restriction on those who promoted or perpetuated violence and rigging during the last elections especially top military personnel, APC stalwarts and members of their families.

This chap has been shopping for attention. Always crying wolf and spreading fake news. I hope when he finally gets the attention he so desperately craves, he will be able to handle it.

I don't understand how someone can be a rabble rouser for a living.

Jobless nonentity whose only claim to fame is that he was a "Former Assistant Publicity Secretary of the APC", a role from which he was suspended and later expelled from the party for anti-party activities over 4 years ago.

I mean, he has crossed to the PDP but still claims to be a "former APC spokesman" because that's probably the highest accomplishment he has achieved in life.

Big shame!
